Biggest advantage of the Mikuni carb is the quick and easy jet adjustments. Stock carb has NO adjustments, save physically swapping jet. Fell in love with Mikunis back in the 70s with my Kawasaki A7SS, which had two. Still have those carbs although the bike is long gone.

My guess is that when it ran too lean and got hot the piston wasn't liking it and that was why it lost power and later threw a rod.
CarsandCameras what size was the carb? i wonder if it could of "hydrolocked" to much fuel in the cylinder. it should of held together i would think unless you had bearing failure

Well they say when you replace the rod, replace the flywheel and the valve springs so your not limited to 5300rpm. When the valves are upgraded you can see 6500+.
The valves are rated to 6500 rpms anyway

Yup, im originally from Vancouver. Things are way cheaper in North America but the wages are much lower too. I do miss the variety of quality tools. My suitcase almost tears eveyrtime I come back from a visit. Actually bent the wheels out last time.

It threw a rod because you bypassed the governor and over revved the engine...without a stronger rod.

@@jerardortiz9088 it means the governer system is being pretty much overran and they kinda just said “it’ll be fine”
@@jerardortiz9088 The governor is the metal object they took off, that used to be the Excelerator for the old carburetor, looks like an L lever
you guy's just answered your own question need that billet aluminum rod's! if you going to stage 3 it do it too the max
But if it’s still governed should it still be a problem. I’m about to put one on a stock predator. I have one on my Coleman 196 ct200u and haven’t had any problems.

When I installed my Minkuni on my 212 on my yerf dog like you guys have, I cant get it tuned correctly so it doesnt want to roll on its own at idle. The drive belt isnt too tight and it is aligned... Ive messed with the needle settings the idle settings and air fule mixture settings,,,,,, any help is appreciated!

A swinging governor rod knocking off the rod's oil dipper will kill it quickly.
You should but a v6 or v8 engine in one of your builds

so if the handle is down that means the choke is off and if you lift the handle up that means the choke is on
It was simply just time for the rod to go because it had alot of wear on it maybe. SHIT HAPPENS in the go-cart world.... That's the fun of it, fixing them back up.

If you take the choke lever out the carb the post on the top is made for plugging the fuel line.
Do I have to remove the governor or can I just leave the arm in the block and just take the assembly off

If you start the engine for the first time it pays to put a bit of gas on the air filter.

Flip the adapter around to get the carburetor straight, it will be fine.

Can you install the mikuni carb with the governor still in place on the 212?
i would also like to know... what do you do with the gov.arm? do you ziptie it down?..take it off the shaft?
@@lenniesbeemer I know its been a year, but you would want to remove the gov arm, you don't want to risk it flinging around and potentially damaging the engine.

Remove the governor and install a billiet fly wheel that way you it won't explode at higher rpms and hurt yourself

I just got a mikuni carb and I dont understand where the hose from the side of the carb and bottom of the float bowl go. I have been fallowing your channel for a while and was hoping to find the and were in this video but you kind of leaped over it. Would you mind including this in a future video?

How does a stock 212 run with a Mikuni? I just like Mikunis better because im more familiar with them. So i was thinking of doing this on my minibike.

I ordered the same kit from GPS for my modded Hemi. When I started the engine it sounded like it wanted to rev full throttle. Did you have to make any other adjustments on yours besides the needle valve. Finally when you push the plunger down is that choke on or off. Keep reading conflicting statements. That exact Vm22-3847 chineese ripoff carb seems to piss gas everywhere out of the air filter. Any help would be great.
Question for you guys...did you run the carb right out of the box? I just got the same kit in the mail from gopowersports, and it will not rev past about 1/3 throttle. Straight up cuts out. New 212, mild mods, running great on stock carb. 130/12.5 jets on the way, but I'm pretty surprised by how terrible it runs out of the box. Best needle clip position was 2nd from the top, and I'm at sea level in FL. Thanks for the excellent videos!
J.K.P Mon gopowersports had told me that they drill the Mikuni 95 jet out to 130 in all the VM carbs they ship, but I could not get it to run right. Currently running the 130/12.5 set up, needle on 2nd clip, and it runs strong. Thanks for the reply.

You don’t just slap a mikuni on a stock predator you only get one when u get billet parts
putting that carb on that motor was like putting a big blower on a stock bottom end . I' don't remember how those little motors cranks are put together but I'll bet the crank twisted and three the rod.

shouldn't the carb be upright and not at an angle because of the floats and stuff? Shouldn't you make a fender kinda thingy so the tire wouldn't rip the carburettor? they were really close. Hope you answer

Threw a rod because you’re using the stock cooling and you used the air filter that came with that carb, let’s waaaay too much air in at all times and overheats piston or cylinder wall eventually.

Take your spark plug off and if it’s really black and covered in soot you know you are running rich if you are running lean it’ll be pretty clean and it won’t be so black
CarsandCameras when you buy the Mikuni carburetor, can you choose what length of throttle cable you want? I have a mini bike and I'm not 100% sure if the throttle cable will reach and if it'll fit.plz help!

The engine will Rev high as hell , throttle doesnt make much difference and you can’t adjust it out !! Lol

A smarty pants you don't think it had something to do with the governor cuz there was nothing hooked to the governor and the spring to keep the governor rod from coming in contact with that rod or that crank
i just installed a genuine mikuni on my minibike, but the gasoline inlet is short and way bigger than my fuel line it’s a good centimeter wide. i was able to jerry rig something that works but i’d still like to know why it had this. oh, the inlet was on the opposite side too. Thanks
Hey guys, great video. Would this kit work on a Predator/Honda clone 420? I'm not positive but I believe the carburetor on the 420cc engine is 30-34mm. Oh, one other question; if your rod wasn't billet, is it cast aluminum?
I mean you will run pretty lean going from a 20 chinese carb limited to 2800 rpm to a 22 mikuni. Right? splain it all a bit better. You guys seem to skip jetting all the time. Save me money by telling me what works. Carb changes are great but jetting guys we need to know. Have you tried different jets?
The throttle slide plate assembly includes a needle which lifts up out of the jet as the throttle opens. If you pull that assembly apart, you will find a small c-clip resting in one of four or five grooves in the upper section of the needle. You can adjust the resting height of the needle by putting the c-clip in a different groove; the ratio of fuel let in by the needle to air flow allowed by the throttle slide (in short, the mixture) will vary accordingly. Hope this helps!
