I remember before I even listened to the entirety of .5 when I heard people heaping endless praise on this one and it did not disappoint when I finally heard it. It's just such a slipknot song. And it was easily one of Chris's best songs when he was still in the band. His backing vocals on this live were God tier. And I think the one you thought was about Paul was "skeptic". It's very obvious that it's about him and when you listen to it, it really hits you. Considering Hollywood especially seems to love everything you've listened to off of this album, that'd be a good one.
One of my favorite songs from The Gray Chapter! I can very much see where Smoke is coming from with them being a mesh of thrash and nu metal cause in a lot of songs they definitely are, with a little industrial thrown in as well. In their very early days, their are accounts of Slipknot actually coming through the crowd and climbing up to the stage and accounts of them actually going down and joining in the pits!

At Tattoo the Earth in Des Moines in the early 2000s, they walked right through the crowd before they went on. They moved quickly but they were in new jumpsuits we hadn't seen yet so most people thought they were part of the crowd. Slayer opened for them at that show and that's when I knew they had really made it. I understand the home field advantage but when Slayer opens for you, that's gotta be pretty special. Slayer still should have headlined ;)

I would also say nu metal is a blend of thrash and a bit of hip-hop which is where bands like Korn, limp bizkit(even tho Fred durst is a super bitch), slipknot etc came into the scene all with this wonder new type of metal that flows and be cuz of that, makes it go faster and hit harder.

The guitarist Mick Thompson played with legendary old school death metal band Malevolent Creation for awhile before or during Slipknot so there is definitely a thrash/death metal mix with their music.
Slipknot has the most Thrash influence, out of all Nu metal bands. I would add next, System of a Down as well! In my opinion the best Nu Metal bands out there.
I think the thing I remember Scotty Riggs for the most (besides American Males, American Males, American Males...) was he was the first guy RVD hit the Van Terminator on in ECW.

Here’s a very simple generalised view of Slipknot discography. I’m a huge fan and people may not agree but like I said this is generalised and basic info you guys need to hear so you stop going back and forth on things. First album: Slipknot(red jumpsuits) It was very raw and full of angst, very much metal, with rapping lyrics and turntables/synths. Joey is drummer, Paul is bassist. (Rip to both). This album made them blow up. Noticeable songs: Spit it out, Surfacing, wait and bleed. Second album: Iowa. Similar masks, slight variations. Their best album imo. It’s one of the heaviest albums ever imo. Brutal vocals. People still talk about Corey’s vocals to this day. Joey and Paul are still here. Noticeable songs: The heretic anthem, people =sh!t, Disasterpiece. Album 3: Volume 3: subliminal verses. This was a huge change in style. Masks got major upgrades. The best masks imo. The band went noticeably less heavy and since then haven’t really returned to Iowa sound. A lot more melody and melodic vocals. Riffs are still heavy but there’s a clear change. This is the album that sent them into the stratosphere. I love this album. Paul and Joey still here. Noticeable songs: before I forget, duality, pulse of the maggots. Album 4: All hope is gone. This would be the last album that had Joey and Paul. Paul passed away and Joey was kicked out sadly. This is huge because both Joey and all were major song writers for the band, especially volume 3. The sound is similar too volume 3. Very melodic and somewhat straightforward songs. Great album none the less. Major mask upgrades too. Noticeable songs: psychosocial, all hope is gone and sulfer. Album 5: the grey chapter. Album is hugely influenced by the loss of Paul. Hence the name, and some songs are specifically written about him. Much darker lyrics as a result. Heavier than previous two albums but still a way off Iowa. This album kind of gets forgotten about somewhat, but there are some great songs on it. Major mask upgrades, my least favourite of all however. This album features both Jay and v-man for the first time. Noticeable songs: AOV, skeptic(about Paul) and the negative one. Sixth album: we are not your kind. New masks, once again it’s a little heavier. Some of their heaviest songs since Iowa but not close at the same time. Corey had a lot of personal issues and they flow out more so than ever here. The band kind of finds itself again after the a troublesome period. Mainly white jumpsuits, Corey’s mask is terrible until he upgraded it recently. Jay is a beast on this album, comes into his own. Noticeable songs: solway firth(very heavy), Nero forte, and orphan. This brings us up to speed. New album expected. The recent single felt very like their first album to me. Which is a good thing. Who knows what the album will be like but I for one can’t wait. General Custer was part of the civil war and was defeated by the Lakota empire along the Arapaho and Cheyenne tribes and him and his soldiers were all mutilated and chopped up when their bodies were found, the battle is famous and is called THE BATTLE OF LITTLE BIGHORN

Love this song! Digging your reactions. But if you want to dive into the essence of thrash metal, you gotta get a little further out of your comfort zone. There are a lot of other great bands in the genre that get overlooked because they're not as popular or successful as the Metallicas, Megadeths, Panteras, and Slipknots in the industry. Here's my personal recommendations if you do another week of thrash: Sepultura "Arise", Exodus "Impact is Imminent", Overkill "Bring Me the Night", Testament "Low", and S.O.D. (Stormtroopers of Death) "Sargent D and the March of the S.O.D." (live version is mindblowing).

I'm sure somebody has mentioned this already, but the Alamo wasn't Custer's last stand. The Alamo was the last stand of Texan forces against the Mexican army. Custer was the man who led American troops against Native American tribes in the late 1800s

Love this song! Digging your reactions. But if you want to dive into the essence of thrash metal, you gotta get a little further out of your comfort zone. There are a lot of other great bands in the genre that get overlooked because they're not as popular or successful as the Metallicas, Megadeths, Panteras, and Slipknots in the industry. Here's my personal recommendations if you do another week of thrash: Sepultura "Arise", Exodus "Impact is Imminent", Overkill "Bring Me the Night", Testament "Low", and S.O.D. (Stormtroopers of Death) "Sargent D and the March of the S.O.D." (live version is mindblowing).
