The Audi quattro is my favourite car of all and I was lucky enough to own a 1988 series 2. I said it back then and today showcases it in abundance. What stops the quattro from being a quick car was the brakes. They were inadequate when the car was new and against today's modern brakes it stands no chance. If these cars had similar stopping power it would have romped away. It's a good test because they are highlighting the weakness of the quattro. If it had a modern overhaul of the suspension and brakes it would handle amazingly even by today's standards and if you gave it a little boost at 300bhp these cars are still not to be sniffed at due to its light weight. Love it or hate it, it will blow you away when you drive cars of similar age as to how far ahead of its time it was. However, in respect of the sound it makes, in my opinion the modern cars are still way behind in that department 😊.
not a fair comparison... quattro coupe with bigger engine/more horse & torque vs an A5 sportback which is much heavier, fwd instead of awd with base engine to boot... now if you had an a4 coupe with quattro might have been a better choice

I wouldn't feel so sad. There is a huge age gap between the two and a huge jump in technology that goes along with it. What makes it even more iconic is the simple reason that it is so close. It was years ahead of anything at the time and if this is how far things have gone since, well, its not that far is it! And then take into account the A5 and where that will be in that same time difference to come. It will be forgotten while the original will still be very much loved!
As an ex-Sport Quatro owner, I'll say that Tiff was doing it wrong. The original Quatro had to be grabbed by the scruff of the neck and thrown into corners. The best way to corner in the original Quatro is sideways, with full pedal just after the apex. If you brake too much you end up going off boost, and that turbo takes ages to spin up.
Assuming Tiff was the guy driving the Quattro, certainly didn't look like he knew how to drive, all over the shot, understeering and hitting corners too hot with wandering lines. Maybe if he stopped talking so much shit he might be a bit better at what he's doing.

I have the 2012 A5 Sportback and my tail lights look newer than the tail lights in the video. The tail lights in the video look like the 2007 ones. Is the car in de video a genuine B8.5 or just a B8 with B8.5 head lights and steering wheel? Or was the first line of B8.5’s made with the these onder looking tail lights?
Honestly I would have a pick two Audi's with similar drive train aka TTRS 2.5t with Quattro vs the original Quattro. That would have been more interesting.

It's not only about people sitting on their couches playing video games the entire day. If you are really relying on driving aids like active suspension monitoring, stability and traction control, ABS on a race, and try to drive the same way on an older car and complaining that you have to drive it harder, that's pure laziness. The total control that you have on an old car is now gone. Driving aids drive you. Like how your smartphones own you.

It's not about laziness (although there's a lot of lazy drivers), it's about modern suspension, tyre, steering and brake technology being better than that of 30 years ago. Turn off all the electronic aids in a modern car and you still don't end up with a car that handles like the quattro. The modern car won't do all the work for you, but it will make it easier to concentrate on the important bits.
Who agrees that 5th gear is better than the new top gear because top gea without Clarkson and the old gang is no longer the same and the new top gear looks a rip off both old top gear and 5th gear
They took the top 1 car made by Audi back 34 y ... and compared with a normal day drive car. Why not take the S5 or RS5 and fucking do the comparison. Stop trying to think that what was done in past is better then nowadays. NO!

They are comparing top1 from 34 yo. They should compare to top 1 audi made now, and the A5 is not the top1 in his category. Try RS5. I would bet my car on the RS5.

the a5 was going about the same speed for 175 hp is verry good there is 45 hp diffrence, the a5 with +15 hp definitley would beat the 220hp audi quattro.
