The Sportback is the most practical member of Audi's stylish and upmarket A5 family. It joins the A5 Coupé and Cabriolet editions, but adds the practical appeal of four-doors and a spacious boot, accessed through a large hatchback. Audi claims the A5 Sportback has no direct rivals, yet both new BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class come close. And while there is much to recommend the A5's beautiful design and roomy cabin, you might not like the firm ride, and the Sportback is not the best A5 to drive.

Wish they offered this in the U.S. I feel like if you want the styling of the A7 but don't want to pay the price, this would be perfect! Downright gorgeous car as well
I usually dont like car reviews done by womean cos they either come across as masculine or dont know what they're talking about, but this lady really does a good job in the few minutes that the vid lasts and she retains her femeninity

Im 5 foot 4 and a half... Who invented that type of measuring system. Its like, what year is it? Its 2 cities 16 roads and a quarter of a table.. it makes no sense to me :) Isn't it easier to say "Im 160 cm" or something like that? Other than the imperial measuring system the review is great and you guys are doing a great job at Carbuyer :)

I can not disagree more with her...when i test drove the S5 (which should be harder than just any S-Line Model) it felt quite good and not hard or harsh at all. Same goes for the Steering, very direct and good to drive. No wind noise from the mirrors either.
It was a lot worse in the 335i F30 i had driven as well. Lots of Noise in the cabin, poor steering and the ride was a little unsporty and wobbly (probably due to the fact that it had the standard ride only).
I guess we all feel different.
I think the car would do well in the US market. They can replace the A4 sedan, for that matter. This is just a nicer looking car, and a bit more practical, too.

the a5 is based on the plattform of the a4 and the a7 is based on the plattform of the a6. so the difference is everything starting by size and ending with the ride quality. so depending on the money you have its your decision.
I can imagine the boom of coments, all saying how Rebbeca looks great, etc. But the fact is that this Audi look gorgeous, to me personaly it looks even better than Rebecca.
Audis seem to be the home of the show offs in my area BMs and mercs seem to suffer the same problem in my opinion an IS250 is the way to be luxurious without shouting about it

Imperial gallons are different from US gallons
Also, the entry level engine on a US spec ford focus is probably a 2.5L 5cylinder petrol, which is the top level engine in Europe. The audi's TDI cargo ship diesel is much more economical.
What they never tell us is just how similar all Audi's look these days and how Mr Jones will have a very similar looking car to Mr Parker next door, which of course will be in a very similar and predictable shade of grey.
Never thought I'd say this but I miss the days when the Mondeo, Vectra, Primera and Laguna filled the outside lane of the motorway.
Don’t know why every reviewer says bmw is a drivers car? They just feel like any other car, I’ve had Mercedes, VW, and I think the Audi build quality is second to none
Unfortunately most of the American customers still have prejudices about reliability, running costs and noise of these modern diesel engines.
But really, I see many Common Rail TDI-powered VWs and Audis passing by and I can barely hear them. They seem like running on natural gas.

I agree. I live in the US and have noticed the redundant recycled engines used in various automobile companies such as the americans and the japanese. I wish some of the diesel tech from europe would come here. Unfortunately the United States government has tight regulations on incoming european diesels but let american diesel patrol around pushing tons of diesel soot.
The A5 Sportback existed before the A7...I've seen them in Hong Kong even some years back. It's probably the "World-outside-the-US" version of the A7, and as such has probably been deemed too small to sell in the US.
Exceptionally good looking car--especially with those wheels. The reviewer is darned good looking as well. Too bad we in the states will get neither....

I agree. I still like the new shape, but I do feel this one looks more effortlessly elegant. The new one has a bit of that "trying too hard" vibe to it.
Irritating wind noise from the mirrors? I got my A5 sportback 2.0 tdi 177bhp 3 days ago. Today on the motorway at 93mph there was only a slight wind noise from the mirrors and nothing else, no engine noise, nothing. Great engine, great build quality. She must have very sensitive ears...
My mum has one of theses the 2.0t s-line. We went over 160km/h and there was pretty much no wind noise

The mirrors are exactly the same as the A4 mirrors, but you say in the A4 review there's low wind noise!

I have the 2litre tdi s line, love it but I would consider changing the next lot of tyres from the stock Pirelli p7 zeros to Goodyears harder compound and less noise. But each to their own

The stiff and uncomfortable ride plus the road noise is a show stopper. It's nice looking like a pair of high heels that is gonna hurt.

I don't think so since they make reviews of cars available in UK, and Toyota Camry (as well as other Toyota and Lexus cars based on the XV40 platform) are unavailable in Europe.

I wish this car was sold in America........but, then the beautiful A7 would go away because of less demand for it.
thats because 300 is not in the same class as a5 sportback
if you compare 300 with an a6 than it lacks headroom etc.

Because this Audi has a TDI engine which is a peace of technology art. And therefor pretty expensive. You guys in US drive only petrol cars which have engines from past century. This is the main difference between US and EU or Japan in that matter, EU is putting a lot effort in automobile technology making cars faster, stronger, fuel efficient, safer etc..
