I dunno, I might need to do this fight a few more times, but during my first playthrough I could not rush him like this video shows. I felt forced into basically just countering and dodging only when required. It got to a point where following through after a counter was becoming a liability because the QT does not help at all and harms you if you fail it. Aesthetically one of the top bosses, but mechanically it felt like a step backwards from all the rest. Especially after The Burst, I felt so constrained and only acted after he did.

@@baofusan2669 My understanding was that Musashi did his research on his opponent. His opponents strenghts were his size and strength, and his large Nodachi (Big Katana), further extending his reach.
Sasaki's weaknesses were just his anger problems.
So Musashi showed up to the duel pretending to be drunk with unkempt hair, disrespecting the duel, with "Just" an oar..an oar that musashi made sure that was exactly 1 foot longer than Sasaki's Nodachi. Because Sasaki was FURIOUS he didn't realise the reach advantage of the oar.
The duel ended immediately because Musashi stepped forward and immediately BONKED Sasaki on the head, stunning him, and then bonked him to death.

The fight is based on Miyamoto Musashi's duel with Sasaki Kojiro in which both met on an island, referenced in game as the small boat, and faced off with Kojiro weilding a sword and Musashi a wooden oar. Mushashi of course won the duel with said wooden oar.

    • @mickel1470
      @mickel1470 7 років тому +50

The fight and the character I think draws very heavily from Musashi's life which is amazing. The duelist/self improving mentality of the edge, along with all of the weapons in his phases being in likeness to the way he was said to fight.
It's a really tasteful homage to a great warrior legend.

Best fight in the game, and just one of the better boss fight I've played in all of Video Games. I just had to smile in some parts, like when you figure out a good way to dodge the waves in the third/fourth phases can be done by dodging backwards then forwards, and then you also figure out some places where you can sneak attacks in.... it's just great. Love the high damage as well, makes the fight more high stakes, makes mistakes more impactful. Just really well done, I seldom see this in a game, let alone one that's quite as obscure as this one.

+Naruga Kuruga it's not really bs any more. I originally thought that because before this boss, the other bosses had very fast timing between the flash and the strike. Whereas this boss' strikes came a little later than I anticipated. So it threw me off a bit there at first, but I got over it. The ground waves too, at first I thought I could just dash forward over them, but the limited space kinda screwed me over for that, but dashing back after going over the wave gave me enough room to dodge the next wave.
In short, I did adjust to the boss' patterns and the challenge wasn't that bad. And quite frankly, this boss is my favourite.

You won with one hp, that's very satisfying, what i wanted to see. To memorize his attacks and pass without damage is like insulting him and those feelings that you get when you first fight him. This battle must be close to the Edge.

Can't say this was my favorite fight, since the dual phases of any boss tend to just boil down to parry/dodge timing then mashing the attack button, but I think it's great how he just ditches the sword for an oar halfway through and goes "how predictable am I *now?*"

The best boss. Was the hardest for me the first time I've played, now I can defeat him without being hit. A true samurai, what a perfect design. Jetstream Sam huh...
Kinda sad he can be cheesed with power up attack (but to be fair it's to find a proper window to charge it) or with a first hit parry>instantly attacking back, or hitting into his parry to bait a counter attack>parry>instantly attack. True way it to parry his strings fully and only then attack him back.

I don't understand why people say he's one of the hardest boss in the game. Compared to the other I've fought I'd actually say he's of the top 3 easiest. For me the scale was the hardest one it took me like 3 days to defeat him.
Edit: it's ironic that in the 3rd phase he says "Let's see how predictable you think I am" when his attack pattern gets even more predictable after that.

His personality is the polar opposite of The Burst, acting like a teacher instead of mocking you. If The Burst were to take The Stranger serious from the beginning, the bossfight would've been even more difficult. It wasn't your blade that killed her, it was her arrogance.

When he picked up the wooden oar, that's when you knew shit just got real. It's time for one last clash. If you lose, you most likely disappoint him by not being that strong after all. But if you win, then you are one step closer to freedom, and the Edge will have had the greatest fight of his life.

Peter Parké actually the protagonist is called Rider. Rider is his official name based on the game (stated by The Star), and wiki. Sometimes bosses will call him a stranger because they know no name for him.
