  • The government plans to roll out a special audit in the enforcement of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) which is kicking off on July 1st, 2024.
Salaried Kenyans will receive a 2.75% deduction on their monthly gross salary while those who are self-employed will declare their incomes and a calculation of their contribution calculated through a scientific tool.
The minimum amount one can contribute has moved from Ksh500 under NHIF to Ksh300 under the SHIF. Health CS Susan Nakhumichaa encouraged Kenyans to be honest in declaring their household incomes, noting that the tracking tool will be able to detect false declarations and verify through a verification of the applicant's economic characteristics.
