Let’s also be crystal clear. Brok HAD to be the one to sniff out Odin. Brok is a character who is steeped in his fundamental honesty. It’s why Kratos and him have such a good repor. “He speaks plain.” Is what Kratos says when he talks about bringing brok. He speaks plain is the most succinct phrase that describes all of brok and describes just one facet at the same time. Odin is his polar opposite, Odin is a lying, manipulative, arrogant, self important and selfish individual. Brok is a very giving, honest, and plain man. If anyone was going to be the one to discover Odin, it had to be Brok and Brok alone. In the 2018 game when Brok found out Atreus was sick his first instinct was to offer Kratos help because despite his crass attitude he is a caring and giving man. He was the one who convinced sindri to give Draupnirs ring. The most honest thing Odin ever did was kill Brok, because Odin had it all. He had won. He was gonna take that mask, walk into that closet and disappear right into Asgard. He tried to put up excuse after excuse that fell flat in the face of the most honest character in the franchise, about going to collect his things, how they couldn’t reach it from there. Odin having his temper tantrum and killing Brok was the most honest thing Odin had ever done. The fact that he couldn’t pick up on this speaks very low about his intelligence.
I remember FatBrett summed it up perfectly when he did his video essay on Brok: “Brok’s character is all about cutting through the bullshit, while Odin is a character who is nothing BUT bullshit”

The entire last third of GoW 2018 is pretty much constantly dropping lore about freya powers, how she was the queen of the Valkyries how her magic rivaled odins, how odin learned from her, hell when you beat sigrun all she does is sing her praises to freya

The Odin criticism sounds exactly like the impression that a right wing dude would get who's only exposure to norse mythology is marvel movies, which they spent the last 15 years complaining were too woke.
Right Odin isn’t Thor, Odin is more of an old trickster wizard archetype. His whole thing was his obsession with knowledge. He sacrificed his eye and killed himself multiple times just for knowledge. Gandalf was heavily inspired by Odin.

That's disingenous. In the original climbing and traversing are dynamic, and are either intercut with setpieces and combat or with puzzles consistently paced in between. There is no way to compare that with the climbing and traversing in the new games. It's pretty much objectevely a step down. God of war 4 is saved in that respect by the fact that the world is tightly built and usually you can get anyplace within a short airline distance.Ragnarok is far worse because the levels are much more filled with dead space and longer traversal sections.

That's not even the point Kratos can very easily beat Freya. But he doesn't want to he can't kill her but he can't let her kill him. Kratos and atreus care about her they don't want her to die and they understand that she's hurting.
The whole reason the heimdall fight works is because heimdall just isnt a threat to kratos, through the fight kratos shows incredible battle tactics, he gauges heimdalls reflexes, then he increases his speed and tightens his punches to see just how far fast heimdall can counter, then he tightens his assault again and goes faster countering heimdalls foresight and landing a blow square on the cheek and from that point heindall drops the dodges because he knows that if he does it again kratos will just hit him again and again, the implication from early in the story is that if kratos just stopped holding back he could have just killed thor and odin right at the start, if holding back kratos landed a blow so could all out kratos, heimdall never stood a chance

Also the reason why Kratos’ armor and weapons aren’t as strong as 2018 is because Fimble Winter has damaged them, Brok states this when you first go to his shop in Ragnarok

They explain away losing your powers by keeping your weapons, and you remember your moves and get them back quickly, but it’s also ragnarok and the cold apparently wears away all things including magical items. So you need to get the buffs for them again. In terms of explanations I think it’s a perfectly fine one
Him viewing Kratos growing up and taking on actual responsibilities as emasculating is so telling about him. Growth and personal development are such foreign concepts to him that his brain can only muster up “uh that’s gay!!!” Just makes me feel bad for him.

This video is what put Synthetic Man on the map as a right-wing strawman come to live. SM posted his video on God of War Ragnorok and a bunch of smaller UA-camrs made response videos and SM desided to react to 1 in 1 of his livestreams of them by the name of ZeroNeedsCoffee. After reacting to it, SM incited harresment against ZNC and then SM made a video responding ZNC and the comments he got on his review.
This atracted the attention of Mauler, who after watching SM's review, livestreams, response video and ZNC's response videos, desided to make a 4 hour video completely discrediting SM's review and showing everyone how much of a horrible person he is.
This - in combination with UA-cam mass promoting shorts at the time - resulted in ZNC passing SM in subs and reaching 1 million subs, however if you look at his channel it's completely dead due to him soliciting underage nudes, people getting sink of him spamming shorts, him no longer making longform commentary videos and him burning a bunch of bridges with smaller commentary channels.

So in his criticism he says cutscenes are 70% of the game. But he also said the games 25 hours long Atleast and the cutscenes are 7 hours if you watch all of them which alot of them are optional aswell. So in reality it’s like 15-20% of the game. Which I quite like but you can criticise that, but the misrepresentation of 70% is purely hyperbolic

I think that's actually the way Thor looks in the actual mythology
It describes him very well, one story he drinks a good amount of the sea water that it brings down the seal level, in another story he was disguised as a woman and ate a ton of food and drank a ton of mead/ale. In another story, he rides his chariot pulled by his two goats around the sky from dawn till dusk, he then rests in Asgard, cooking and eating his two goats until they are mere bones in the morning and drinks two barrels of mead/ale, and just before sunrise he brings the two goats back to life with his hammer, and repeats this process.

"Kratos should have just killed odin" Kratos wasn't equipped. In every game he has always needed specific weapons to kill other gods. So many people act like kratos is this overtly strong being able to just kill with his bare hands when he has always needed a holy weapon to help.

These are some things i noticed were misrepresented that are aside from all that dudes personal feelings abt the game. Pre "well actually☝️🤓" ass post
- Mimir explained that u lost your abilities bc of Fimbulwinter
- Kratos said they were preparing for the fight during the timeskip bc they werent ready, not just hiding
- They have a protection stave that prevents Freya from getting to them (literally say that in the sled fight)
- Kratos denied Odins offering bc he has accounts from Mimir, Sindri, Brok, Freya, etc. that you cant trust him (established in the last game as well as this one)
- Angrboda aside from giving Loki the giant soul marbles, helps Loki with his magic, she comes back later to teach him how to weave the souls which creates Jormungandr and later brings back Fenrir, and goes with him on his journey to find the giants at the end (all aside from being Lokis wife in myth)
- Kratos almost dies to Freya bc he said hed rather die than kill her, especially bc she saved Atreus' life
- Hildisvini is in Myth as Freyas boar and is believed to be a form of a hero
- Atreus wants to help Odin and finish the mask to use the knowledge it unlocks to find a way to defeat Odin (dont remember abt the preventing Ragnarok part Papa Gut said)
- Freya was the goddess of death and war as well as love and beauty, so her being a strong character makes sense
These are the facts i picked up on, but my god this guy was insufferable. But i dont wanna get into how dumb his personal feelings were cuz id go on forever. Appreciate Papa Gut calling out how dumb he was😂
Bro only liked Heimdall because he called Atreus a "half-breed." The ONLY character he liked is the the small dude throwing around slurs who backs down the second a stronger man is in the room, then dies when he gets into an actual fight that he wasn't pulled out of. Ironic.
He actually is kind of right about them designing the accessibility around DSP. They showed a video clip of his as reference for the devs about the lowest common denominator of who should still easily be able to navigate the world

Just in case people missed it. There is a short dialogue in the beginning of the game where Mimir makes a snarky remark how Fimbulvetr wore down the magic and gear they used to have. To those that possibly don't know, Fimbulvetr isn't a normal winter. It's essentially a sign of the apocalypse that is coming. Kinda like the plagues that are in the bible. They are not a joke and are known to wear down people in general. But if you watch Synthetic mans streams, he talks over most dialogue so Mimir mentioning why they don't have their magic or gear went right over his head.
Synthetic man is simply just a grifter who is terminally online and has studied and seen what old conservative people hate about the new generation and has implemented it into virtual video games. Did he do a review for TLOU 2? That game must of sent his political rotted brain into a frenzy.
Him kept going on about kratos refusing peace is so dumb, last time dude made a deal with a god it literally put him in his horrible life situation.
It’s so weird how he’s upset that their accents aren’t true to Norse mythology but then doesn’t understand Freya is a god and think she’s token feminism. She’s literally one of the first gods.
He played it, but refuses to engage with it. He's already decided it's woke trash from the moment he say the trailers. It explains why everything he says about the story is wrong, he couldn't be bothered to retain the information.
So my cope for Kratos losing his skills in Ragnarok is that in God of War 2018 he was just chilling as a hunter whilst Faye took care of Atreus and suddenly he was endlessly fighting from the start to the end of the game taking on Draugr, Massive Beasts, the Gods themselves and then at the end he has finished his quest, revealed his secrets to his son, embraced his past and is a much calmer and open man.
By Ragnarok he has been training Atreus throughout Fimbulwinter, focusing on teaching him how to survive should Kratos no longer be around. Essentially returning to the lifestyle he had been living by the beginning of God of War 2018. Not only that, when we first see him he's sitting in a cave, by the fire, making arrows whilst Atreus is out hunting instead of him. It's a much calmer situation in many ways and it's commented on multiple times by Thor during your fight with him, even pointing out that Kratos is struggling to remember his old moves.
So if that helps anyone cope with that aspect of the game, it's yours, have it haha

From a lore perspective Kratos loses his powers because of killing baldur plunged the realm into an endless blizzard that basically stripped him from his added power from the first game

Im surpsied that you didnt catch how much synthetic man lied and was dishonest in his review, like that first berserker fight is skippable, mimir says basically there is challenge there you can do now or come back later when your more ready. And the reason why enemies had alot of health to him is cause he upgraded NOTHING till halfway through the game, he had a massive amount of upgrade points stored up and never used them. So yeah Mauler and his crew went over this review and picked apart all of his bullshit and lies of synthetic man.

Hes fundamentally wrong about the ff13 complaint. It was an issue in 13 because most ff games are open world. That complaint doesnt work for god of war because thyre usually very linear games.

This game is basically fast x movie of Norse mythology. It's all about family and be better. Doesn't feel like God of war Ragnarok. Thank God, they realize their mistake and gave us free DLC.

My problem with the game is that is just doesn't let me play. I don't want to hear random tag-a-long dribbling on and on about the story ALL THE TIME. The combat is great but you never actually get to enjoy it because the game never, ever stops blabbing. It stops constantly to talk, they talk throughout battles, they talk after the battles, it forces you to walk so they can talk some more and it never ends. Ragnarok is my least liked game in the series because it IS a great game but it doesn't want me to actually play, it wants to be a movie.
1:05:20 let's also add that Kratos killed his own daughter Calliope prior to GoW 1. Kratos has always been very protective of Atreus he just doesn't know how to express his love until later. In GoW 2018 when Baldur comes to their home Kratos immediately tells Atreus to hide. Later in the fight when Baldur threatens to harm Atreus, that's when we unlock Spartan Rage.
