This is exactly what I was looking for! I have some beautiful landscape photos with mist going across that I want to paint. I was thinking that there must be a simple or basic way of doing it and you showed how in this video. You did it exactly as my instincts told me it could be done. Thank you for keeping it simple!! This is all I was looking for. I didn’t even look at the other videos that came up in my search, when I saw you had one, I knew exactly which one to watch!😊
Oh wow that’s a whole lot easier technique for adding mist or fog to a painting than trying to leave it as a white of the paper or trying to mask off areas for the mist or fog. I am definitely going to try this out on a painting of a heavily foggy morning here in North Mississippi during the sunrise! Thanks for sharing these 5 minute tips. They really come in handy for me.
This was so helpful in painting fog; never saw it done The Paul Way but as always, great. Since watching your videos, I have enjoyed watercolor painting so much more! Thanks 🎨
This technique will really help me, as I live near the smokey mountains here in Tennessee and in the mornings, there is alot of the mist in the low spots. Thank you
I love your music and am so appreciative that you don't play it while you are talking. In fact, I find you sooo easy to listen to. Wonderful voice. I can imagine you reading stories to children (and child-like adults). Great art, too, of course!
Thank you for some more top tips. I love your courses. Would really appreciate some more dramatic landscapes as that exercise was great fun enabling the use of some great strong colours. I also enjoyed the line and wash town scene - again enables a slightly more adventurous use of colour. Thank you for sharing.
Great vid as ever! I got a Grade 2 in my Oxford O level art back in 1969. I was so annoyed as l have always been convinced l would have got a Grade 1 if it hadn't been for my water colour painting but it was very tricky. We were asked to paint a rain storm at sea around a boat struggling in the waves. I've never seen such a painting - can you show us something along those lines? Good luck to you Paul, my wife and l both really enjoy watching your tutorials and they are fun to absorb your techniques. What a show you always put on. Very, very good!
Holly canoli that tree just came to life in front of my eyes! I found you by searching you tube for painting supplies! I’m never leaving🎉! I need to get some while gouache and some of the pencils you mentioned.. any advice?
Great tip as always! My eyes got a little misty😂 Please keep them coming! Great techniques along with concise, understandable upbeat instruction is harder to come by than one might think.
I've only really just looked at this and am wondering that as like many recent starters, i'm sure, that have paint sets etc can the ordinary Tube White paint be as effective. Thanks Paul , Love yours and Margots work and am a devotee..
Dear Paul..first I want to ty for all the awesome help with your wonderful tutorials and tips. I have a question that comes up a lot. Your tutorials are copyrighted, correct?
I am wondering. I got up early one morning. The sun wasn't up yet but it wasn't completely dark. It looked like everything was glazed with blue. Could one glaze a painting with blue after it dried to get that look?
The effect should be done with the gouche tipe of pigment? Does the white water color could work either? And last but not less important, what are the differences between both?
Brilliant tutorial thank you. Just out of interest, was that the old boat of Caol that flashed up at the end. I would love to try to paint it, do you have a tutorial on this? (not that I can paint yet) lol. Thanks again
@@ArtbyPaulClark Brilliant, I look forward to it. I have just purchased a digital copy of your book from Amazon. Sitting in front of my paint and paper reading it right now. Lets see how this goes !!
Very interesting and easy technique, thank you, Paul, for sharing! I have a question, though. It has to be necessarily gouache, or the same technique will work with Chinese White watercolour (such as Winsor and Newton)? Haven't you tried that?
Random question, but do you have a template, or an up close image even, for the painting with the boats and lake hanging directly behind you in this mist video? It's beautiful, and every time I see it, it really catches my eye. I'd love to give it a go!
Hi Lisa - no sorry, I painted that many years ago - however there is a good clear version of it on my website (link below) - I put sold on it because I decided to keep it! - www.artbypaulclark.co.uk/paintings

Perfect demo for the summer mist and fog in my area. :)
Glad you like it!
YES
This is so cool. Requesting you to teach how to paint smoke.
Great suggestion!... noted Ayan

Impresssive! Gives me an idea: a dry brush technique for a more delicate efect maybe?
Definitely!
❤❤❤❤ Thanks 👍
You're welcome 😊
Love your video’s, learnt a lot….In the east of the Netherlands they call this mist 'witte wiefn' 😆
Cool, thanks Julia!!
Excellent as always
excellent
Many many thanks
WOW! You look good with a goatee!
Oh thank you! ... Lol!!!
The effect should be done with the gouche tipe of pigment? Does the white water color could work either? And last but not less important, what are the differences between both?
Gouche is just a little more opaque than the watercolour white - (slightly more chalk)
@@ArtbyPaulClark Thanks to you very much
Interesting

Well spotted Sharon, it sure was and yes I have plans to do a tutorial!

Great channel a learned a lot. I this technique how much water do u add to the white paint ?
Not too much - emulsion paint consistency
I love your tutorial so much! I have a question: Is the gouache diluted with water or is it pure?
many thanks, it's very slightly diluted
Very interesting and easy technique, thank you, Paul, for sharing! I have a question, though. It has to be necessarily gouache, or the same technique will work with Chinese White watercolour (such as Winsor and Newton)? Haven't you tried that?
Yes, Chinese white will work but I find it not as opaque as gouache so you won't get quite the same brightness.
@@ArtbyPaulClark Thank you! That's a good point.

@@ArtbyPaulClark thank you so much!! It is so beautiful, and I can't wait to try it myself!!
I like the riverside houses painting. I didn’t feel it needed any embellishment. Is there a tutorial for this?
Hi David - no sorry not on that one!
@@ArtbyPaulClark okay, I had a go, but disappointed with the results.
I'm wondering if lifting up the paint with a damp brush and a tissue works as this technique does🤔
Yes it can but a little more difficult 😊
are you able to use acrylic paint instead of gouache?
Yes, but doesn't work quite so well!
Would love to see a lesson on painting a street at night please, thank you.
Great suggestion Vimi - it's on the list!!
