he can't the magic item says "Any cards drawn in excess of this number have no effect.". by declaring that he had one pull and only pulling one grog has gotten all his chances.
That just meant that at that time, if Grog had pulled more than one card, the other cards wouldn't have an effect. If he had it now and said he wanted to pull two, he could pull two and their effects would work, but no card effects after the first two would work. Additionally, if he'd said he wanted to pull two and only pulled one, the other card would fly out of the deck and activate on its own.
there is no recharge effect on the magic item. Your interpretation would take way the negative consequences of the deck. Keep drawing until you got the wish and then wish away the bad effect. ie i wish i had drawn the wish card instead of "insert bad card here". Keep wishing until all the bad effects are gone. No one would ever risk drawing 4 cards if you could draw an infinite number of times, the only reason it has a 4 card limit is because you only get one shot at it
aaron jacques I had to go digging to find that! I'd never read any other description besides the 5E DMG, and there are no guidelines restricting players from drawing again in there. My DM let our party draw as many times as we wanted, as long as we declared how many cards we drew :P
Well you were very lucky then, but if you read dmg magic items that recharge tell you how much they recharge, conversely single use items don't have a disclaimer that they can only used once so if it doesn't explictly recharge/renew then it is a single use. In 3.5 we had a lot of fun with a spent deck of many things. we made a full deck (nonmagical copies of the cards) and started playing poker with them at rival gambling houses. The card draws had no effect on us, but oh boy did they play havoc with the rival gamblers.
Xanos Knightshade if you don't watch talks machina, Travis explains what happened following this scene. tldr; he was a bit pissed but not at her, at Grog's failed roll, and nobody slept on the couch that night or at all for that matter. He actually makes mention to the fact that Grog is LOYAL AF to his word to not pull from the deck, as that's kind of his thing.. So Laura should feel a bit more ashamed, but ultimately, he agreed that Grog is JUUUSUSST reckless enough to not have those cards.... for now, lol.

Idk, I feel like Travice would be totally ok with a random massive detour of their campaign, but everyone else wants to keep it serious and mot have a sudden ridiculous side quest. I can appreciate them wanting to stay on course, but ya gotta have a little ridiculous fun
Baron11704 yea the deck in 5e leans a lot to the bad end of the spectrum. Most of all of the good cards requires you to do something and the bad stuff is instant.
I love how people hate this moment so much, claiming that they took the fun out by sealing the cards or not letting Grog use it, but then get pissed off when SPOILERS Grog pulled the Void card out and got transported to the Planes of Pandemonium.
Funny thing is, the deck of many things can be called back to its owner's person. He could've taken it without her knowing but I doubt he knew that can happen
@@xelloskaczor5051 The Deck isn't a tool of mass destruction. It's only dangerous to the one who draws the cards. Only the Wish and Skull cards can really affect the party as a whole and the Wish is 'good' and the Skull only effects the others if they try to join in.
Paaaatttt! What is whit you and kittens? What did they do to you? First, The Princess and Mr Whiffle and now "I'd like to think that there is a live kitten is this pouch" (the pouch Vex replaced the deck of many things with that Grog probably will ignore and just trough in the bag of holding ). 🤨

I hate that Laura tried to rule how others play. She does it super often too. I love Laura, we all do, but it’s super fucked that she often won’t let ppl have their fun
She stole the deck of many things, so I guess he doesn't have to worry about saving Trinket anymore. If Vex is going to be a theif, let her bear die as punishment.
I was just curious because Scanlan had to roll sleight of hand (got 20) to tickle Percy's knee during the love potion stuff and Vex didn't have to roll against it with a passive perception of 23. Since she rolled a 9 here, I figured Grog would win that if it was over 9. But then again, I have no clue, I haven't played before.
Bah56 that’s because perception checks are if they are actively looking for things while passive perception is what they just happen to notice. If you roll really low on perception you can’t just use passive perception instead
Grog's player is SO charming and cute! OMG So many comments about them being married, but I can't tell whether it's the characters or the players who are married, so in my personal headcanon this super lovely man is gay and available.
Moot* Except that in Vex's case, it is. God forbid Laura plays _her_ character how she's written right? I mean what a travesty that her ranger who's been greedy throughout the entire campaign, and had an *entire* boss based around those traits in order to receive her Vestige, keeps items for herself. How dare you, Laura Bailey. _How dare you_! Spencer is very disappointed in you, Laura.
"I'm already seeing someone" Laura said to her husband
Man he looked super pissed when she deceived him and he rolled poorly lol
Honestly this is second to Laura being pissed at travis for letting Scanlan and Pike take the broom and nearly broke it
Just the salt exploding from him. "You're not going to try to steal that shit too?" Genius.
Who says Grog can't do magic, Travis just cast a level 9 spell. Spouse on the couch tonight.
lv9 for men, for women its a cantrap
@@asherandai1000 😂😂😂
I want him to use it again so bad. Travis takes chances in game and its fun to watch. He's also willing to go with the consequences good or bad.

The scene where Grog found the deck was even scarier than their first fight with Raishan.

Oh my GOD TRAVIS! THOSE PUPPY EYES GEEZ
You can tell, you can just TELL HE USES IT ALL THE TIME ON LAURA
I LOVE that whisper at the end. "I'm so proud of you."
This is perfect dnd. Travis you legend for taking it in your stride.
Grog is so damn pure. He always cracks me up.
If Travis had actually been mad at Laura we would have seen Roy Mustang vs. Lust: Round 2!
Considering they are married, Someone is sleeping on the couch
Probably Laura
Didn't that actually happen when Grog pushed Trinket into the room of traps?

Who else saw Grog standing there with the necklace in his hand flapping it about when Travis was flapping the paper?
I love the palpable glee Taliesin experiences whenever someone's clever with a high chance of OH SHIT.
Travis playing it calm, knowing that he may have been cheated in game but in marriage he gained an ace
4:12... that knuckle explosion
Patrick Rothfuss was actually going to DM this whole thing but he wanted there to be a break of 7 years between sessions.
Anyone else feel like Travis is like one dice roll away from going super saiyan
When travis looked up from rolling that perception check, that's the face of trying not to flip shit, man it's great lmao
4:34 why do I feel so much for him right on this sentence? It's so sad
I love you can see the exact moment at 2:03 where the idea clicks into place in Laura's head hahaha
After hearing him talk about this scene in a panel this past weekend I laugh so much harder
When will Vex be stopped!? Her evil knows no bounds...

Laura is adorable when she is mischiveous.
I just, like
I want to give Grog a fuckin' hug man.
It just happened to be the one episode that Travis is at the other table irony or not
such a cool item, and almost immediately it's sealed away, never to be touched again because of this stupid promise
so much goddamn potential!!!!
Never to be touched again.
Someone likes to bitch before time...

Nak Attack the deck has a few cards that are just instant character death, unless they edited it to be less deadly.

whats the source on that? ive never heard of that before.
Honestly I feel like this is kinda of Laura's pay back at Travis when Grog almost lost Vex's broom during the GenCon live show, but its my opinion.
It is not Vex's broom, she stole and lied about that first.
@@WilliamAMPrince just like how she lied to steal this necklace 🤣
Grogs the only reason to go back and watch campaign one... And some scanlan.

The parapets of wound closure. lol. :D

it is episode 82 right

ya know what? Minsc is overrated... i want a grog in my next D&D game. D:

ugh! context?
She stole the deck of many things, so I guess he doesn't have to worry about saving Trinket anymore. If Vex is going to be a theif, let her bear die as punishment.
William Clark Fuck yea
Matt has stated he hopes they draw the card that makes an NPC hate the party. Trinkets technically an NPC.
Please let Trinket hate them lol. At least it would maybe stop him getting pokeballed back in every 5 seconds that he's out of the damn necklace.
TheGenericDavis Imagine if its Kima or Gilmore. Hows that for a change of heart. I mean... Kima and Scanlan would be more or less status quo...
I don't know if I could take Gilmore turning on anyone... That would be as far from glorious as you could get.
Vex ruined the fun
I don't know what Grog's passive perception is, but wouldn't that have been used instead of a roll? It'd likely have been better than a 9
Grogs Passive perception is 10, so his modifier is zero. So it all comes down to his dice roll.
I was just curious because Scanlan had to roll sleight of hand (got 20) to tickle Percy's knee during the love potion stuff and Vex didn't have to roll against it with a passive perception of 23.
