The Ammachi Kottaram is about 225 years old. This place was the summer residence of the King of Travancore. The wives of the rulers were reverently called 'Ammachi' in those days. .That is why this palace came to be known as Ammachi Kottaram (Palace ).
This Palace was owned by the Travancore Dynasty. Until the 16th century, the palace was under the rule of King Changanassery. When the King of Travancore conquered Changanassery, it came under Travancore. The royal family stayed in this palace in the jungle for months during the hot summer months. This is the Summer Palace where Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Verma and Amma Sethulakshmibai lived.
This place is surrounded by mist during the day and is surrounded by small raindrops. This palace is half hidden in the mist even at noon. . The palace is said to have been built by a foreigner named JD Monroe. Built in the Kerala style of architecture and , the interiors of the palace are given the look of foreign architecture.
