You just saved me, dude. Prepping for a shoot with teleprompter but client ALSO wanted to be able to read off slides lol. Got everything set up like this and then realized it’s all backwards except the teleprompter text haha. This is PERFECT
Just so you know, they did change the layout of the app a bit in 2.0.11 for Sonoma. I was still able to follow your instructions to get to the right area. I too like so many, I'm trying to look at the audience or read from slides while looking into my teleprompter. Kudos to you and Waydapper. Nicely presented!!
Thank you! That really helped! I wanted to look in peoples eyes while talking and I did it with iPad+Teleprompter+iPhone as camera, but I was missing display flipping option in MacOS.
You're welcome! Happy to help. Be sure to check out the updated version too. They changed up some wording and few other things in a new version of BD - just in case you get stuck.
Thank you for this. I was exactly looking for the solution after buying the ipad and telepromter. This is by far the best way to do it. Just took some time to figure out how to put the windows in correct places in the 'arrange' because of the mirroring.
Glad you found the video helpful! Yeah, it took a while to figure out the right configuration. I might have even goofed up the order I showed in the video... I think the correct arrangement is "Main Display > Dummy > iPad."
@@SelfEmploymentSidekick yeah because my screen is on top. So at first I tried putting ipad screen on top, but then it did not work properly. And then I realised that I might need to put dummy screen there. So when I need to drag something I am dragging it to Dummy screen - so when this went to the 'top' everything started working as you showed. Also I got puzzled in the beggining because now with Ventura 13.5 for whatever reason my Dummy screen by default get's black background and not wallpaper as ipad. So it looked like 'it does not work' until 10 minutes later I just tried dragging zoom window there - and it worked :)) Felt silly, but was very frustrating, because even in your video when you create virtual screen it shows up in there with background image. and mine is black :) Thank you again, because this is by far the best automatic solution. Now I just turn the ipad on and everything works.
And in your channel 'about' section in the text at the end of it the url is misspeled, tried copying it and it did not work. The links themselves in the bottom work, just mistake in the text version of it.
That's what I was finding too. When I placed the dummy after the iPad, I had to mouse across the screen twice before I was actually interfacing with the apps on the dummy display. Strange about the black screen. I've had hiccups from time to time, but never experienced that.
Hmmm.... It's hard to troubleshoot without having more info. First thing I would check is to make sure you've enabled screen recording permissions for BetterDisplay in your Mac's security settings.
hello. thahk you for everything . I can run it. but never use sonoma. it didnt work sonoma flip horizontal. I turned ventura from sonoma. this is impotrtant. You have to take a video better display last version.
Hello I wonder if you can help mi with my problem. I create a virtual screen 4:3 that matches my ipad but when I drag a window to the flipped ipad the buttons and text is super small. How can I make that bigger?
Lower the resolution of your virtual screen. You can do this in the drop-down menu under the settings for the virtual display. It should be a slider. Drag it down until the screen is at a good size for your use case.
Great video, thanks! I just purchased the app, but for some reason I don't have the "Create dummy" option anywhere. Do you have any possible explanation as to why not? - would be much appreciated 🙂
Thanks Frank! Here's an updated version of the walkthrough. They made a few changes to their nomenclature. Instead of "Create dummy" it's now "Create new virtual screen." ua-cam.com/video/Ib4CZzU7OEw/v-deo.html
I'm still on Ventura myself. It sounds like there is an update that's compatible with Sonoma. Another commenter mentioned a few of the settings are different, but he was able to get it to work. I'll post an updated version once I have a chance to check out.

Oh, are you talking about the list that shows when you click "Create New Dummy"? Those are just resolution presets. You can choose any of them and it should work. Ex. You could choose "1:1 Square" if you wanted; it just wouldn't be optimized for your iPad. You can tweak the aspect ratio and resolution after you create the dummy display as needed.
Hmmm... What version of MacOS is your Macbook on? You might try downloading the 1.x version of BetterDisplay and see if that works with your system. The download link can be found right below the main download button on the GitHub page.
Great work! Thank you for the effort. I got so excited when I saw this solution. But facing an issue. I got a MacBook Pro M3 Max, and just installed BetterDisplay V 2.3.1 to use my Ipad Pro with my Teleprompter as an extended screen. I did all the settings as I could see in your video. But the flip option is not working. The screen on the ipad does not flip. Do you have any idea what am I missing here?
This is a very useful video, thank you very much. i have subscribed. i have purchased the software. I could do with some advice regarding getting the size of the display just right, also I noticed the arrangement settings seem to move around. still a great video and thank you very much. the resolution you used did not increase size enough for me?
Thanks for the sub! This was video was forged in the fires of a lot of trial and error. You might need to play around with different resolutions in BetterDisplay and your native display settings to find your personal resolution sweet spot.
I'm not seeing the Create New Dummy option. I have just downloaded the app and it says all Pro options are available for 14 days to test this app out. Did you have to somehow add the CND option to your menu. I don't see that as an option in the Customize App Menu Contents in the Tools options section.
You're welcome! I'm glad you found it helpful. I honestly don't have a TON of experience using the teleprompter as an actual teleprompter 😂 I use Talk Studio Pro (formerly Melon) for livestreams, and they have a helpful teleprompter feature built in. But if you just need a dedicated teleprompter app, Promptsmart and Speakflow seem to be popular options.
Hello, are you saying the entire MacBook screen can do mirror flip to a readable format on teleprompter, are you sure this work with the latest MacBook OS? Please advise
I haven't tested it with Sonoma 14.5, but yes - the end result is a mirrored display you can read on the teleprompter. I have my computer set up to use the teleprompter as a separate display (typically dedicated for video calls) so I can continue to use my main display for other apps. But I'm pretty sure there's a way to mirror/duplicate your main display onto the iPad/teleprompter if that's your goal. BTW, There's an updated version of this tutorial that goes over a few changes made in an updated to BetterDisplay: ua-cam.com/video/Ib4CZzU7OEw/v-deo.html
That was the solution I was looking for. But the flip display doesn't work with somora 14.1 I'm using betterdisplay 2.0.11, everything is fine except the flip function.
Very Nice Breakdown! Thanks. I'm actually torn right now between getting a teleprompter from amazon (glide gear, neewer, etc) to use with 10.2" iPad or alternatively the Elgato for talking head language education type content. Which setup would you choose for that sort of thing? Many thanks!
Glad it was helpful! I'd say if you already have an iPad, and you want the flexibility of using it as a display or a tablet; jump on a Prime Day deal and pick up an inexpensive teleprompter. But the Elgato Prompter does look really nice, and is a much simpler (and smaller/sleeker) setup. If you have the budget, and you don't need a huge display, I'd probably spring for that option. iPad/teleprompter: flexible, less-expensive, larger display, but a bit more complicated Elgato: simple, stable, smaller (pro or con), but more expensive
@@SelfEmploymentSidekick Okay, interesting. You've got my wheels turning now! I actually don't have an iPad but can pick up a 9th gen pretty cheap. I guess I'm leaning a tad in glide gear tmp100 + iPad direction b/c 1.) lots of teleprompter app choices 2.) not tethered to MacBook all the time. Elgato is pretty slick however like you say....
That's a good point. An iPad let's you go stand-alone. If you do anything on location, away from your computer, you can still run a your teleprompter directly on your iPad.
💯 The Elgato prompter was released right around the same time I found BetterDisplay. It's tempting, but I agree - I like the flexibility (and price) of this approach.

You're welcome! As long as your iPad is compatible with Apple's Sidecar feature (or you know how to connect it through some other means), you should be fine. BetterDisplay doesn't connect your iPad to your Mac. Rather, it controls what is shown on your iPad after it's connected.
