This album feels SO dense because most songs feel like at least two put together. Loving their decision to go more proggy and psychedelic.
"most songs feel like at least two put together"
Loved that definition!
It's also 86 minutes 😂
prog and psychedelic are my favorite combination when it comes to rock and metal
Its density is equal to its heaviness 🤘😣
Mastodon retain their signature sound, while venturing into new musical landscapes every album. They do not disappoint.
There is nothing "Mastodon" about this. They have strayed so far from their sound it isn't funny. This is mainstream garbage written with the sole intention of selling albums.
@@officialmetalwill yeah "commercial" casual hour and a half long masterpiece. They haven't strayed from their sound, they outgrew you lol.
@@officialmetalwill lmao
@@officialmetalwill whats mastodon to you? every album they have is different and unique they havent made the same thing twice
@@officialmetalwill What's "their sound"? Every album has been different and that's why they're such a good band. If you want Remission or Leviathan go back and listen to those albums.
"Push through the pain
Developing calloused hands
To dig, scrape and claw"
Man, the way they refer to other songs throughout the album, is a thing of beauty
Running from an endless source of everlasting light
Stumble into darkness of my own creation
Navigate this maze of self-destruction's inner glow
Worship at the feet of primal gods of chaos
The walls we create
The cracks will begin to show
And watch them start to fall
All is indefinite
How quickly we evaporate
To memories and only dreams
As the seismic shifts
Veering into unknown space
Where monuments will bare your name
Drinking from reflections in the pool of endless doubt
Continue on the path of reckless devastation
In the pit of death and bones and carcasses decayed
It's here I find a guiding hand to true salvation
Push through the pain
Developing calloused hands
To dig, scrape, and claw
Thought and visions stick
The images, how they still burn
Cementing of your legacy
Now it's flooding back
Trigger the unlocking fate
To wash away and letting free
Dredging the weight
Dragging through hollow ground
To break the chain of lies
'Round and 'round, we battle ourselves
Silencing our tongues
Perfect. Thanks, friend
Any idea on what it is that Brent is screeching behind Troy during the verses that Troy is carrying the main vocal track?
Progressive grunge is basically what this album is.
So I've been sleeping on these guys, holy fuck.... every song I'm hearing so far is awesome.
This is a colossal fucking banger! and when it goes into that clean interlude, "You're gonna need a bigger boat"
Lmao fuck yeah!
That solo is an Inescapable tidal undertow
This is lame and boring compared to their first few albums. This garbage fits in with anything played on modern day radio.
@@officialmetalwill pff, this album is an amalgamation of all their previous albums turned into a prelude for some serious amygdala fuckery
Nice 'Jaws' reference!! I'm sure Skipper Sanders would approve 😁
Brent's background growls and screams really add depth to this track. Incredible.
They just can't make a bad album. They're relentless.
I don't think, they even ever tried.
Emperor of Sand felt ignored by your comment
emperor of sand would like a word
Emperor of Sand is good, ignore the plebs in the replies
@@Tdrummer888 yeah it’s a solid album.
They’re cranked to 11, hope Bran doesn’t explode
They always go to 11. True legends.
Every single track on this album is a banger. Every single one. The entire album is an epic, cathartic, masterpiece.
I'm so excited to be on this musical journey with you all. Long live Mastodon!
Cheers, bro!
🤘
🍺
Just bought tickets for Mastodon/Opeth on the 28th.
Hell yeah
A banger if there ever was one. Brent's fuzz is otherworldly good.
If banger means garbage, then I have to agree.
@@officialmetalwill 😱
THIS ALBUM IS INCREDIBLE
Dude, its a banger through and through!!! Fuckin' DEADLY!!
You obviously have zero standards. This album is boring and unoriginal.
@@officialmetalwill What would recommend I check out that would raise my standards???
@@vulgar5595 its a troll, send no response
@@officialmetalwill I bet you smell like my grandads tacklebox
That solo 😍
one of the best tracks on hushed and grim,...personal fav.
FLIMMITYFLAMFLIMMAFLIMMYFLIMMAFLIMMYFLAM!!!
Absolutely, dude.
That bass drum is sounding pretty damn metal 🤘
Massive and epic. Bludgeoning riffage and rhythms. THIS is why I listen to metal!
Boring and uninspired. Sounds like anything that could have been on their last 4 albums.
@@officialmetalwill ok musical genius make something better
The solo in this song is crazy
The screaming in the background amps this up 1000x
Those double kicks during the prrpt p baaaa are like absolutely massive in low end!
I was just about to comment the same!
Love to be here so early and I'm on acid, yes!
yay for l
And you didn't invite me? Shame on you.
@@notsure1969 I saw Brent while I was on Acid (and shrooms and ketamine) this past Sunday night at Shaky Knees music fest in Atlanta.
He was standing right behind me for a couple songs during All Them Witches set.
Now the only one I haven't seen up close and personal or talked to is Troy.
Look behind you!!!!!
The floor is expanding.
Mastodon is one of those bands that, more you listen to them, the better it get... all i heard of hushed and grim was great the first time... its been almost 10 times i have listen to those tracks, now im about to explode! Forget covid, mastodon greatness is the real threat! If i listen one more time one of these awesome songs im probably gonna die you know, trick is... I CAN'T RESIST!!
With so many bands I have to pick an album or two, perhaps an era in which I enjoyed their music. Mastodon is different. New albums are fresh and simultaneously bear that signature Mastodon vibe. I've never thought that I wish they'd play music like they used to.
Mastodon USED to be different. Now they sound so mainstream it isn't funny.
Also enjoy Brent's signature banjo style licks while incorporating some more 'exotic' scales than usually used. Ok. I like phrygian dominant stuff.
Troy's favorite song on the album and I can see why. I only wish they played it live instead of Skeleton of Splendor. They were the best I've ever seen them on this tour BTW. Brent was absolutely killing it and having a great time.
I am blown away! I appreciate this album and the timing of it's release. It hits just right on every level. The flow is amazing! Musicly and lyrically is proves to be an epic display of talent and skill. I love it!
Best so far!!! This is shaping up to be an amazing album. Not that I expected any less from the Don!
The Don? I appreciate the sentiment but please don't call them that. Lol.
@@notsure1969 GET OVER IT
@@notsure1969 triggered much?
@@notsure1969 Master Don
@@notsure1969 they've been the don for a great deal of time.
Been a fan since the early days, these guys just get better and better. I think this might be my favorite mastodon album!
One of the best, I agree. it's Dark, mysterious, heavy and polished. Amazing
I didn't like this album at first, but im starting to realize this is one of there better albums
Vibing cat would approve.
It's an amazing album, maybe the most sonically diverse and compositionally sophisticated thing they've ever done. How does this only have 40k views?
Main riff is straight up Amon Amarth and I am here for it. Lots of cool riffs on this album.
This album is so fucking good, it's got be one of rock's greatest,it just has everything, low end guts, to take your mind away instrumentals
Loving the new album. So many great songs! This one is a favorite. Smashing solo!
It’s time! New album already sounds amazing!
You obviously don't know what "amazing" means.
@@officialmetalwill someones butthurt
@@officialmetalwill he definitely does
@@officialmetalwill elitist incoming , music is subjective so go on..
@@officialmetalwillnobody asked
Stoked when I saw that they got David Botrill on this. Sounds full / snare slaps.
This song is performing cunnilingus on my soul.
Vagisoul ™️
New Mastodon is pretty damn good.
This has gotta be my favorite off the new album, but I'll be damned if the entire thing isn't a banger. Solidly in third place for me as far as their albums go
Reminds me of Blood Mountain a little bit.
this album is fucking brilliant! best since the hunter!
Dry Bone Valley 2.0
And im here for it lol
With an injection of Blood Mountain Troy
those fucking background scream/growls in some parts. absolutely killer. i wish this album's mixing sounded better on speaker systems, it's a whole different experience in headphones
Yeah, I'm wondering who's doing those growls in the background?
@@ragdadsolby267 Yeah, that's what I'm doing trawling this comment section looking for somebody saying who that is!
most likely brent, sounds like his high pitched scream, check blasteroid for example almost the same
@@SplinteredX oh yeah, I definitely hear that now... I'm surprised I didn't on first listen, now 😅
@@aranasaurus I have to admit I feel a little stupid lol
I keep returning to this one. What a perfect song. Bam!
I wish Brann would use the kick more like this song. It would be nice to hear some Bleed-style drumming from him with various kick patterns
The fact that he doesn't is part of what makes him unique among a sea of generic metal drummers (and also makes this part stand out because it is so rare)
So sweet and dreamy but its still mastodon. Wao what a great musicians.
Enjoying this album more and more
certified bop
I really love this song, best one in the album (which is already amazing) for me
Wow !!!
This is ABSURD.
awesome!
fucking spectacular this song are always the best
fucking spectacular this comment are always the best
Pure power.
AMAZING
YES!
Crazy. Mastodon always illicits a strong primal reaction in me. this? feels like I need to mindlessly need to gnaw on a tree until I'm victorious.
What a time to be alive thank you 🙏🏾
Heavy!
Best one yet🤘
Oh man, the riff from 2:41....
oh fuck yeah, then the slow creep.....Christ, this is heeeeaavy
It's got a bit of a Harvester of Sorrow vibe
What a head banger!!! I crank this one up when im driving in my lil town!! Rasing my Windows down so everyone can hear the new mastodon!!! Mastodon rulzzzz!!!!!!
Finally the new Mastodon is out!!! \m/
🙌🔥
Beautiful
Already better than EOS
Its close; but probably lol
@@vulgar5595 I think it is. Just my opinion.
I agree, i loved EOS but this is one level ahead. Heavy, intense, mindblowing, emotional, i cant categorize this, its fucking Mastodon at his peak of creation since Crack The Skye. This is unique. They are ridiculous, i cant imagine one, just one bad album from them.
Ah sweet underrated hidden gems🤘🏻
Becoming my favourite pretty bloody quick!
Best use of Brent's harsh vocals yet
Great track 👌
Troy rules! 🤘
this is a banger!!
Christ almighty this is good.
I came to listen to this while drinking a Savage Lands IPA from Thin Man Brewery brewed in collaboration with Mastadon...."SAVAGE LANDS - NEIPA 7%
In collaboration with MASTODON. Roasted Pineapple, berry & ripe tangerine up front in this hazy IPA brewed in celebration of Mastodon’s new album, Hushed & Grim."
Bro.. that's fucking amazing.
Wow fantastic...top stuff🤘🙌
Powerfully!
Brann Dailor voice is so damn good. I like Troy's voice, but Brann voice fits better with the melodic Mastodon
All 3 are incredible vocalists
Awesome
Monumental EPIC ALBUM TOP 2O21 💯❤❤❤
SAVAGE LANDS ....indeed!
They went the direction they wanted to go and didn't dissapoint at all.
End of this gave me real CotM/remission vibes
I'm so happy right now 😚
Savage solo
This would’ve been the perfect song for Scott Kelly’s guest appearance at 3:20
Man, what is Brent screeching during Troy’s parts? Sounds so good
Fkn rippin ❤❤❤🤟🤟🤟
By listening to the first 5 seconds hit like automatically
🤘😎🤘
Favourite song on CD 2, easily
This band always kicks balls...but vocally they grow every album. Very hard to find that, especially so many volumes into the catalogue.
This song would not be out of place in a racing game
wish it had lyrics, but a banger.
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🇧🇷brbr
How do they do it with every album? Killer, dude.
Sounds like follow up to pain with an anchor
Fuck YEAH!!!!
The lyrics are phenomenal! reminds me of something Jim Morrison would write
