- A narcissist is making a choice... every time they behave well out in the community - at work, church, school, wherever... and then come home and behave badly.
Understand that it IS a choice... they are adults, they can choose how to behave in any circumstance if they wish to.
You do not have to give them everything in your soul in the hopes that they will choose you, and choose to behave well at home, too.
You can make a different choice! You are also a grown up.

My situation is very similar to yours but not as long, 9 years with an alcoholic narc that I've finally had enough of.
It's heartbreaking that the empath has to sometimes loose what they have to gain back their happiness and life, but we have to tell ourselves it's really worth it to break away from that cycle of abuse....
Congratulations! Keep in mind, old habits are hard to break. Maintain boundaries with everyone.
Most narcissists are very gregarious and shower you with kind gestures, most of the public don't understand this

This ex-friend acts like an altruistic person in public and creates spectacles of how blessed he is from above.
Behind the “curtain”, he’s gossips about everyone, interrupts you while talking, exaggerates his experiences, lies and lies.
He was so scared of people finding out his charade, he ran around and told everyone that I was crazy and to stay away from me.
😂🤣🤣 Complete insanity! I’m sure people were confused or just surprised.
My goodness, that negativity and low vibrational energy was draining.
It's like a projection of himself onto you to keep the heat off of himself. How he sees you is how he sees himself. Humiliation of you to always make you look worse than him. What a crazy mind it must be to always need another person to use like that. My mother was like that no matter what I did to please her. These people are a waste of time. Can't fix what they're parent did. They just can't go there.
