Remember when I said I cant u turn? Well switched to R2 and its so natural. Helps my finger coordination, don't get me wrong, itll take a while to get used to it but i tried it for 2 minutes and already love it. You got yourself a sub bud. I just want to buy medals for myself as I feel like its a real achievement
Somehow I managed to do all the Beenox Times except for Turbo Track without knowing how to U-Turn! ALSO, you can FINALLY remap the buttons on Switch, so analog stick users rejoice! (and pray for no JoyCon drift)
@@zaksims1981 You can do it in the Accessibility menu in your PS4 settings. I recommend adding it to your console's Quick Menu (the side-bar that pops up when you hold down the PS button), that way you can quickly turn the re-mapping on and off.
Thank you! I've always used analog... even in the original game back from 1999. I simply struggled to U-turn using analog, so I simply switched to dpad to do it... feels kinda badass like I'm shifting gears!
Thank goodness, I already adjusted to the D-pad on the Pro Controller but the directional buttons on the Joycons are horrible for CTR. I can play semi-decently in handheld mode now :D
Oh, I'm for sure going to take advantage of THIS... Much easier to swap between "normal" and "CTR" control schemes this way than to adjust to D-Pad. Analog simply gives too much control over drift sharpness to ignore, even if I ignored the whole "I've reached this level of mastery with Analog, I'd have to start from square one for D-Pad" aspect! Though, in my case, I may consider using R2 instead. Or not, I'm not sure what would feel more natural, considering I hop with R1 and boost with L1.
I also recommend unmapping the up key. Turns out that holding up and down at the same time is not only possible when remapping, but will cause you to spin out. I do this remapping even for the DPad, because it just feels more comfortable to me and is more consistent. But I was also hitting up and not realizing it, which causes you to spin out and begin reversing in the direction you're driving.
Thank you. I've been playing with analog stick as and doing fine. I beat all oxide and some velo times without U-turning but the time has come to up my game. I will try this later!
For Xbox w/alternate control users: 1. Go to Xbox settings on home screen 2. Find the option to map your controller buttons 3. Map the R1 button to dpad down (this swaps the functions of the two buttons) You can always go back and change this setting back to normal when you're done playing for the day, but it is indeed the most crucial step to the equation. 4. When wanting to Uturn, you must release the acceleration (R2) and quickly hit and hold down R1 (this would have been the down on dpad you would have had to hold down for Uturn which is almost impossible while using analog). 5. While holding R1, also hold brake (x). You must be holding R1 down before adding brakes or you will lose your fire. 6. Now that you are holding R1 and X, spam the L1 (jump) button while using left analog to guide your Uturn. 7. Once finished with the Uturn, release all buttons and resume R2 (acceleration), and drift as soon as possible to maintain fire. I have done 101% completion of the game, and have gotten to only 9 more Velo times to beat, and just today learned this from watching The Viperian. I can't believe I didn't find this sooner but it has breathed new life into playing.
This would have saved a hell of muscle memory would it have been a week sooner. I’ve had to flex and do quick swaps to d pad whenever I’m about to U turn. Still appreciate the info and will in fact do it. Very clever.
This looks like a great tip which i am definitely going to try, I've completed just over half the dev times so far using the analog stick and shifting to the d pad when U-turning which isn't ideal. Hopefully this change takes my playing to the next level.
Today's update on Nintendo Switch (10.0) is allowing button mapping !! I am going to be able to utilize this tip, improving my u-turning and beat all the dev times :D
Thanks a Million for this!!! I had been struggling with the dev times using the traditional D-pad, It feels way smoother now, I personally prefer to play games with the analog stick, also, thanks to your video I finally beat Thunderstruck! :) You're amazing guys!
@@lesterlopez4544 Yea that's what I am doing, I manage to control it more now, but it is still super hard to uturn several times in a row in turbo tracks and in the new velo's track :/ any tips ?
Ah yes I have tried this. But I'm too used to d-pad already after switching from the analog stick. Now the analog stick feels weird for me , when it used to be the other way around 😂
I know it is in fact possible on switch But on Xbox I think you will need the elite series 2 controller I don’t know if you can with a normal controller
I dont think the switch has button remapping but if you're using the power a wireless controller you could just set one of the back buttons to down on the d pad
I always play with analog stick without remapping anything. It's much better because you can control the kart 110%. No problem at all for uturn and my hand always say thanks! :D
😂 my only problem now since i learn the u-turn is funny thing . Not the analog but the spam jump and fall of the map ( drive thru danger ) else its fine 🌹😂
I personally have no problems on the analog stick for switch. The best thing you can do is practice on ring rally and realize that you MUST hold “down” first
Thank you for this, Viperian! I've been trying to get to hang of U Turning since I bought the game a few months ago but using the D Pad is just asking me to do way too much at one time. I could never remember all the buttons I was supposed to be pressing and what order I was supposed to press them in and would end up getting frustrated and abandon learning the technique but I remapped my down directional button today after watching your video and, though I'm still inconsistent at it, U Turning is much easier now.
You can map any buttons on the xbox except for triggers and analog. Which is a problem because I would need to map a trigger to do this and it doesn't let me. I got the idea a few months back and was frustrated it didn't work. If the dpad was in the same location as PS control id just use that, but because that is too small and cramps my hands I can't use it. Makes competitive matches a real random draw for me. If my control decides to work correctly I will win, if not, I'll lose and probably in a really stupid way. Also still getting issues with invisible barriers on xbox on tracks. Koala carnival and Nina's nightmare are the two most common to hit me with ghost walls.
Try mapping down to 'Y' it sounds odd, but if you can get a finger across the X and Y button together then it can become simple, as you're still only moving one finger!
I watched this, changed my button, it makes u turning with analog so much easier. I just managed to do 3 laps of drivethru danger with blueflame all the way. beating my previous time by 20 seconds. then beat it again by another 2 seconds. Good tip :)
I thought this was gunna be a "if you cant get used to dpad this works fine but dpad will always be better" sorta thing but from the sound of it this may be a side grade or better
I can confirm that the Switch does not have the feature required in this video. Which sucks, because I feel much more comfortable playing Smash Bros with the DPad over the sticks. I can't say if the Xbone has this feature or not.
I can do the u-turn without other settings using the stick. Press jump release gas press square button and the stick left or right . When you land press gas. Only watch 4 the blue flame.
I do it without changing controls. Controls (Ps4) Be holding x then jump (r1 or l1) hold square while turning by moving analog to the direction you wanna go let go of square then press x again. That is what I do.
That's Airbraking, a useful skill I've fully implemented. However, that technique is a slightly inferior version of U-Turning, which requires Down be pressed. Less risky too, since holding down allows you to hit Brake on the ground without losing Blue Fire. Turbo Track's double hairpin gives a very obvious example of the difference, Airbraking simply can't get through that without losing flames, but U-Turning CAN. And makes it look EASY. It's also required to take the Dragon Mines shortcut properly without items.
@@freds2150 Biggest problem for me is that I am _really_ not used to turning that sharply. Spamming jump? I can mash with the best of them! Not overturning? Kind of a toughie. Still made Dragon Mines without the shortcut a breeze, and assisted a bit with Thunder Struck. and Hyper Spaceway. Throw in Blizzard Bluff, and I'm down to 6 Velo Ghosts remaining! Would be 5, but it seems that I lose Blue Fire in Hot Air Skyway a bit earlier than I'd like after successfully getting the hairpin turn. Right before the spiral turn actually. Of course, I haven't actually touched the remaining CTR ghosts yet, so they might be pushovers like some others (seriously, three tracks already had a best time beating Velo!)
i need to learn how to do the papu papu turn correctly because the part where you go in circles is very tricky but the rest of the shortcuts i got down 100%.
I actually managed it without U-Turns or Airbrakes. Found a sweet spot to just drift through the whole section. Now, if I ever want to take the Dragon Mines shortcut, or reliably manage the Hot Air Skyway hairpin, or smoothly go through the double hairpin of Turbo Track... Airbrakes aren't going to cut it.
@@ShadwSonic i did too but then forgot where to do it when it comes to the turning part. but the good news is i almost master the blizzard bluff jump shortcut about 80% of success but only problem is that annoying rolling bolder.
@@FreeAimDog An issue I've already encountered via other obstacles of that type. Sewer Speedway anyone? But I suspect this U-Turn trick may help me handle such "random" elements.
So when I'm U-Turning on Turbo Track for example, while going through the bends in the track will i have to hold down the brake button or just spam it along with jump?
