These are correct community names from original game on ps1: 1. Sacred fire - basically sacred fire is a turbo obtained from power sliding or standard turbo pad 2. Ultra Sacred Fire - blue fire in nitro fuel, USF in ps1 ctr has same concept but much weaker, same insane speed but you can't maintain it, it lasts as long as you have reserves and power sliding just stops it 3. Saffi Fire - it's a glitch in original game as slayer said, basically after too much perfect power sliding(3-4 mins of nonstop powersliding) your invisible reserves goes beyond limit and your kart goes all time at sacred fire speed without powersliding or stepping on turbo pad, people only used this for one lap times as is almost impossible to get it on normal game and you usually would go to wrong way to obtain it then go back to drive a lap to get better lap time scores. There is no SF in Nitro Fuel. So yeah guy in video is using a wrong terms but who gives a damn i just call it blue fire in nitro fuel anyways
@@davolthe1261 still wrong about sacred fire. Sacred Fire is the point where the extra boosts you get turns into reserves (needle on the speedometer goes pass 90 degrees). Ultimate Sacred Fire is Blue Fire or in the old game it was characterized Translucent Fire where it maxes your reserves so the boost lasts a long time but you had to froggy to keep the reserves from being depleted fast. You can only get it from boostpads with big jumps. Saffi fire is when the boost pad overfills your reserves and the value becomes -1 and overwrites your X speed to be permanent Sacred fire speed.
This was great. I played the game when it came out, so I’ve only played classic with one character. I don’t remember doing too much outside of boosting at the beginning and accidentally figuring that and other things out along the way. This was a nice reintroduction back into the game. Now I know with 100% certainty I won’t be able to get a platinum on one playthrough
USF and Saffi Fire are two distinct things. The latter Is boosting so much that the game overflows and gives you the speed of Yellow Fire (upgradable) while driving with just the acceleration button (you won't be able to boost again)
Good to see that you have improved alot since the first stream. These where the exact same methods i was using :) good work buddy, Your definately up there
Next Tip, Taking Corners and Sharp Turning in the Air? I've seen a lot of people have trouble with their sharper turns whether drift boosting or just regularly stopping, I Find it really interesting how you are approaching it too so would love to hear that next if you ever make another CTR helpful Vid.
I love going around with this online haha. Good explanation of the mechanics. Recently been a whole lap in front of some people who don't Power Slide at all. xD But hey, I also played the OG game along with tons of Nitro Kart.
I understand not doing the blue fire because I’m still trying to learn that too but how do you go online and not powerslide lol? How do you beat the game without doing that
Important thing he forgot to mention is that the type of boost you do impacts reserves A good boost will actually take time away from your reserves while perfect boosting will build it by about 0.5 seconds each perfect boost performed allowing you to maintain it. Also worth noting is that you need to perfect boost at least twice when hitting ANY turbo pad in order to pick up and control SF or USF; anything less than this will result in you not picking up the boost and returning to normal speed. It is technically possible to pick up SF or USF with only 1 perfect boost IF you continue the powerslide over the turbo pad and do a SECOND perfect boost. Also it is possible to make the SF boost and maintain it from anywhere on any map IF you have 10 Wumpa Fruit and manage to get a Turbo weapon pick-up; so long as you are perfect sliding to build reserves and have 10 Wumpa fruit a Turbo Weapon pick-up will give you SF when used.
You seem to know a lot about game mechanics. Is there a trick when chaining boosts ? like waiting for the black smoke, or is it best to start chaining slides immediately after getting the 3rd boost?
I'm totally new to this kind of games, and I procked that Ultra Sacred Fire without knowing what it was, I got a lead of half a lap of Deep See Driving on my sister. We're both huge casual gamers on this, but thanks to you I think I'm gonna fall in love w/ this game
The game basically forces you to learn this if you try to unlock N. Tropy or God forbid the Oxide times. Without holding the blue fire for half of some courses you won't stand a chance. Although this made things a little clearer, I thought the "reserves" only started building after hitting a boost pad, or extremely slowly with sets of 3 perfect boosts, which I still thought of as separate from the boost pad speed, so cheers for clearing up that misunderstanding.
LETS RACE! But a good video to make is differences between handling , speed and acceleration and what stat is the best to use on which stages. Far as I know it that Acceleration Racers are one of the best in my opinion
He was just wrong with the type of fire: 1. Power Sliding doing GOOD will not give you enough reserves to keep boosts for long time, but will help to keep it for the next power slipe 2. Power Sliding doing PERFECT will increase your reserves while also giving you what they call "Yellow Fire", the same speed you acchieve when jumping and getting a yellow bar from that jump. If you keep Power Sliding, you'll mantain this Yellow Fire trough all the race, and this is usually enough to beat times from N.Trophy in Time Trials for example. But if you want even more speed, you need Turbo Pads. 3. Sacred Fire: Turbo Pads will give you a bit of Reserves to increase the duration of your boosts as well increase your Max Speed, they call this speed Sacred Fire, it's shown by a bigger yellow flame. 4. Ultimated Sacred Fire: Some turbopads will give you a BLUE FLAME, they work as the others, a bit of reserve and increase in max speed, not every level has one, some levels have a ton of those. If you plan beating Oxide in Time Trials, you will need to learn how to keep the flames behind your car for almost entire races, some races will require even keeping the Blue Fire for the entire race. It's hard, but worth the effort. Just remmember, those pro players, they spent hours and hours in the same level, doing the same thing over and over, for hours, days in a row. There is people with literally 20 years doing this on their backs.
You are not wrong.... I currently put my estimated total hours of gameplay on CTR and CTR Nitro Fueled at about 4800 hours. But there are people far more dedicated than even me and have well over tens of thousands of hours in game some few thousands of which may be dedicated on just one single track.
fucking Jordy can maintain Blue Fire on Electron Avenue. None of the other racers could finish the race. on the easier levels, the gap between first and second is usually around 8 seconds or more. You will usually see him play N.Tropy with the skin for beating oxide's ghost.
Thank you for this video, really helpful and now I can actually learn to compete at higher levels. Never played the original so the help is really appreciated. Subscribed!
Holy shit. I never knew that. That's crazy fast. I know I have to get familiar with the tracks before I start power sliding but I did not know that at all. Thank you so much.
Couldn't get the concept of reserves at first. Also while boosting pressing the other direction to go in a semi straight line did the trick for me, thanks. Man my thumb is hurting.
An easier way to tell is the speedometer with the circle gauge. Nailing 3 power slides at best will push the needle straight up but not into the last section of the gauge. With SF, the needle will be pushed into the last section of the gauge and cap. SF speed is different for different archetype of characters, speed demons being the fastest and corner cutters having the slowest. Under USF everyone has the same capped speed.
D-pad. You can respond much faster. Say for example you want to turn left, then right. If you do it with the analog stick, you will move the stick left, then have to bring it all the way to the right (so essentially you're steering left -> neutral -> right). The D-pad skips the neutral, you can instantly do left->right.
Wow I really didn't know about all this with the reserves and the scared fire and the ultra sacred fire. So then I guess that would explain people going crazy speeds then lol. Well now I know how it works and I gotta start practicing with it.
I have mixed feelings about this game now. Our data got corrupted and it only remembers what we unlocked at the pit stop. It doesn't remember us unlocking N. Trophy, Penta or even Oxide. We worked hard unlocking the gold paint by getting all the gold relics in adventure mode! Now they're all just gone!
@@bearwordz They better fix this soon. We started adventure mode all over again to re-unlock everything. If it happens again, we won't play the game again until they fix it.
I myself play the original when I was 14 years old and now I'm a fully grown man and I watch how people play this online and they really don't have a clue but hopefully they pay attention to this video this information of course already knew but for the newcomers this is great for them and now they can pose a threat to Guys Like Us, not us.
Very excited to play this game online with you all and these people who said you cant play well or aren't good at driving in this game need their egos deflated big time because not everyone is good on their first time playing it takes practice and getting the groove going to be a good racer at their own pace period. I noticed the differences of racing without power sliding in comparison to racing with power sliding its a massive difference but like i said you wont get it right on the first race it takes practice and timing on when to power slide once you have the idea implimented on your terms youll be alright :)
Here is a tip for new comers since no one ever wants to tell people about it... if you ever fall of the map, get reset or whatever and uka uka or aku aku are bringing you back in, if you rev your engine just right (right before your wheels touch the ground) you get a boost just like at the beginning of the race... and this can save you A LOT of time. As a side note yes, if you are good enough at timing you can even full rev just like in the beginning of the race for an even better boost but the timing for it is nearly frame perfect having to rev the engine 3 full times before touching the ground.
I honestly didn't know you could chain up reserves before I started playing CTR still trying to get the hang of holding blue fire too but the tips were helpful
Saffi Fire is different to Ulitmate Sacred Fire. In the original it would happen when you would 'overflow' (if you like) your reserve system so much that you would maintain a USF speed without needing to boost. You would lose it if you touched a wall, did a powerslide, or went over a turbo pad. The fire coming out of your exhausts would be regular white smoke as if you were driving with boosting. It was left out of Nitro-fueled because it wasn't an intended mechanic for CTR.
I've been finishing 2nd and 3rd almost every online race, but there's just the one person WAAAY ahead of everyone. Now I try to use some more power slides, and I've been able to keep up somewhat. Got a couple wins now! Thanks!
@@ZekromZero froggy is no longer a thing, u turn is basically pressing the (break + (left or right) + down) in the air, this helps you keeping blue fire in hot air skyway for example (in the last turn)
@@danielfloresretamal2471 okay I think my confusion is do I let go of gas when I do u turn or do I need to be pressing gas and break at the same time in the air
Saffi fire was when you could build your reserves to fill an unseen reservoir beyond a maximum. Then you kart would enter a high pitched noise boost with no fire visible. Slower then sacred fire but faster then normal driving. Next to impossible to get except on certain tracks with a 7 lap race or use the wide open area in Coco Park to just do doughnuts and build it that way. Ultimate Sacred Fire or Hyper Engine Mode is the speed that the hyper engine item gives you in battle mode or off of super turbo pads. Knowledge
Great video, a few observations: It's better to show this using the speedometer so that you can show the speed differences between red, yellow and blue fire. Also yellow fire (sacred fire) cannot be obtained until you step on a turbo pad.

I know turning mid air in nitro refueled is way better now but Id be a cool video so you could break down the controller inputs. And maybe even talk about the better controller layout in the options to use.
Its called Blue Fire now since its different than USF. Blue Fire's duration can be extended by having more reserves and any kind of boost. With USF you had to avoid other boost pads and drifting from what I can see else it would go away.
Hey Canadian guy. First of all, I love your video. Keep up the good work man. Second, eventhough I was already familliar with powersliding and turbo boost, I did'nt understood the reserve machanic untill I saw this video. Thank you for that!! I think you gotta get to papu in adventure mode and or buy one kart. It might pop up after dune buggy for a 3800ish bundle n after skipping the imperium a few times but i haven’t seen it up as much as other options
Nice guide! Can you please explain how to U-turn properly and maintain the Sacred Fire and Ultra Sacred Fire please? I’m having trouble by making U-turn and losing the speed
A lot has to do with the type of characters you use. some have max turn so you can away with pushing it, others you might need to hop a few times then jump straight in to drift boost. Ohh and if you trigger the boost faster you can turn better than if u try to fill up the boost bar
If you mean when in the air (say, last shortcut in papu's pyramid for example, you just let go of X and press square while holding down the directional pad. This should make you do a proper U-turn without losing any speed.
Premium Gains no. I mean in Hot Air Sky Way right when pass the last turbo pad to reach the start that fence that you can jump in to make it perfect and maintain the ultimate sacred fire you gotta do the U-Turn on that part I can do it but I lose my ultra sacred fire
@@mirianosorio7387 Cutting through that last corner is near impossible to maintain the boost, you have to hop, turn and accelerate before landing from the hop, ive only been able to do it a few times
My problem is maintaining control after reaching top speed. My anxiety kicks in and I always get so scared that I'll lose it that I keep trying to drift and failing. That and I keep grazing walls all the time.
That is indeed what happens easily haha. I got that as well but in time trials specifically and on last lap mostly. Where you have "perfect" run you wanted... and all of a sudden, your anxiety kicks in and you fail in a worst way possible. I've been there..... a lot... not just in the remake.... in OG CTR too...
i learn this trick on my own, heres a better tip if you hit a turbo pad you will get huge flames in the back and you will want to maintain that fire by drifting perfect every time if you lose it then you will lose your fast speed and also you will NEED that huge fire for some shortcuts like the big jump on blizzard bluff and many others that require you to have high jump risk/reward jumps. i notice that if i keep the huge flames im more likely to beat the AI on hard than if i dont have the huge fire in the back because if i dont have it then the ai will just speed pass me so once you hit that turbo pad and you get big fire keep it as long as you can and the best class to have it with is drift because the fire last longer and turning is like acceleration but more perks.
Oh yeah a little tip of sacred fire that is when your in n gin labs when your hitting the unlimited sacred fire track when the end of it keep drifting and you keep the reserve and sacred fire *the more you know*
So when I hold the controller, do i keep holding the R1 or L1 constantly and press the opposite every now and again or do you have to constantly press them one after another. Like I wish there was a video showing the controller. I am so close to giving up trying to drive with drift boost but it hurts my fingers soooo much! I don't know what i'm doing wrong!!
Hey man, you’re good, probably better than those of ya that look for suck advice. Thanx for the video, will look forward to another lesson in the future, friendo.
What's everyone's preferences when it comes to Character types and why? I see a lot of argument for either speed or balanced but don't see the point or turn or acceleration characters myself.
Whoever says you're "not good" at the game needs to get off their high horse. You are great at this game. Sure there's probably people who are better, but that doesn't mean you're not great at the game.
Does anyone know what the blue gauge above the powerslide gauge (the one Beenox made) measures? Is it airtime? is it relevant for reserves? I think it measures airtime or something similar but I'm not sure what the point of it is, and I haven't seen anyone explain it.

I'm at a position where I can't win many games, and when I do it feels like a fluke. I NEED THIS!
These where the exact same methods i was using :) good work buddy, Your definately up there
For someone who didn’t get to play the original I find this quite helpful
Now I understand how people were like light years away sometimes. :) Thanks for this. :)
Recently been a whole lap in front of some people who don't Power Slide at all. xD
But hey, I also played the OG game along with tons of Nitro Kart.
I understand not doing the blue fire because I’m still trying to learn that too but how do you go online and not powerslide lol? How do you beat the game without doing that
@@TheNadroj10 item RNG lol
you can beat medium with item RNG
NWDM 1-H True, People are funny lol. Going online without basic power sliding
Important thing he forgot to mention is that the type of boost you do impacts reserves
A good boost will actually take time away from your reserves while perfect boosting will build it by about 0.5 seconds each perfect boost performed allowing you to maintain it.
Very nice explanation of the boost mechanic. I will utilize this to it's core!
Wow. Thank you for this. Should help for time trails/relic challenges.
I love rhat this game really rewards you for playing well
Another quick tip is if the boost pad is big enough like the one on oxied station you can spam jump and that will also build up reserve boost 🔥❤️
Really good detailed video ! Thank you for the tips, it really helps to improve me racing. Hope i can race that fast without hitting the walls lol
Thank you! I've been waiting for a proper guide for this system since NF came out.
LETS RACE! But a good video to make is differences between handling , speed and acceleration and what stat is the best to use on which stages. Far as I know it that Acceleration Racers are one of the best in my opinion
Pinstripe is op
Nah mate
Speed chars. are the best because if you do only perfect boosts you go way faster than accele.
You go faster, but sharp turns might trip you up. I know this all too well playing Tiny on Classic.
I'm pretty sure every character has the same speed while doing sacred and ultimate sacred fire.
@@ShenDoodles if you know how to turn and strafe, you wont lose much speed and you're good with the sharp turns
He was just wrong with the type of fire:
1. Power Sliding doing GOOD will not give you enough reserves to keep boosts for long time, but will help to keep it for the next power slipe
Wow man great video thank you! You are more than qualified to make this video! Don't sell yourself short.
Thanks man. Appreciate the help. I’m a newb to this game. Liked and subscribed.
What do people find more effective when steering?
The analog stick or the D-pad?
Thanks
Captain Thirteen it’s all personal preference, but I play D-pad. I find it easier to hit reverse for midair U-turns.
D-pad. You can respond much faster.
Say for example you want to turn left, then right. If you do it with the analog stick, you will move the stick left, then have to bring it all the way to the right (so essentially you're steering left -> neutral -> right).
The D-pad skips the neutral, you can instantly do left->right.
@@geertj9081 OK cool. I use D-pad too. But want to weigh up which is superior 🎮
@@Captain13Thirteen always good to ask around and experiment :) good luck and have fun!
Happened to me yesterday! I'm super pissed!
There should be a no boosting lobby so at least everyone has a chance to win.
But everyone has the ability to boost, why do you not want to play properly?
Lol wtf
that would be so boring
Electron Avenue is perfect for testing this out.
Or Tiger Temple! I got some N.Sane speeds there that I managed to beat Oxide in time trial. It was so much fun
@@beastingbeyond6736 Ooh, definitely! The hallway can be a bit tricky though.
Yes Electron Avenue and N.gin lab are the best tracks to try this out
@@icyfireball100 Once I get Into it, i just abandon all hope of speed and pray oxide don't catch up lol.
@@beastingbeyond6736 Unrelated, but the Trophy Girls and main characters are dancing on Slide Coliseum and it's sooooo pure!
I once was the only one to cross the finish line and won 800 coins at once. This will help me pull that out again.
Thank you so much for this video. It answered so many questions for me!
I've been finishing 2nd and 3rd almost every online race, but there's just the one person WAAAY ahead of everyone. Now I try to use some more power slides, and I've been able to keep up somewhat. Got a couple wins now! Thanks!
When I'm doing all this but I'm only in second and the person in front of me still finishes a lap in front, what am I doing wrong?
Ben Rhodes play the classic mode the new one is harder
@@exedoomed1548 Does that make a difference online?
Ben Rhodes Other players can do it too. Also they might be using a faster character
This, along with shortcuts, are key to beating those N. Tropy and N. Oxide times.
Thanks for the video can you please go over froggying and u turning? It goes into controlling usf speeds
I too am looking for more info/help with this I posted my own comment but I will upvote yours also
@@ZekromZero froggy is no longer a thing, u turn is basically pressing the (break + (left or right) + down) in the air, this helps you keeping blue fire in hot air skyway for example (in the last turn)
@@danielfloresretamal2471 okay I think my confusion is do I let go of gas when I do u turn or do I need to be pressing gas and break at the same time in the air
@@ZekromZero I think you need to keep accelerating and you do not lose fire if you do it right
you can even keep the break for a second while in the ground and not lose fire
Great video, Canadian dude! And thanks for the guide! Now I can practice with this huge speed! 🏁
Knowledge
The speedghost man alongside the Sacred blue fire is just insane
Great video, a few observations:
It's better to show this using the speedometer so that you can show the speed differences between red, yellow and blue fire.
Also yellow fire (sacred fire) cannot be obtained until you step on a turbo pad.
Also man kudos to that end page Because I accidentally tapped on your subscribe button. That's the perfect spot to put it because that's exactly where I put my phone at the end of a video to get the pause button to show up.
you are the perfect youtuber

Also, Thanks for the explanation, is like the best explain video i have ever seen
OM Zeus...i play CTR 15 years and now some guys make guide about that i doing from primary school. It's so strange feeling.
What a wonderful time I live.
I really need ps4 to meet other fans of this game.
15 years of Experience, I see... Cool.
I can relate... I have 16 years of EXP of OG CTR. :D
Hey man thanks for the good info. Now what I'm really looking for us a good u-turn video or a sharp hairpin turn video.
And Im qurious to know what your fastest time is in the map called "Twillight" as its easily my most favorite track to race in. Im looking for ways to improve my time as well
Hey bro do you think when you have some time if you can make a video about how the Wampa coins work in this game cuz I feel that online is extremely extremely inconsistent sometimes I'll get over 800 but most of the time I usually end up only getting about between 20 to 80 per coins even whenever I make first place they say they normally winde shop reset you get 1 hour of free 10x wompa coins by Phil even within that hour it's extremely extremely inconsistent
What is the small vertical bar above the boost bar for?
Tiki Master air time boost. look at it when he goes off a jump
ShibbeBoye ahh ok. Thanks.
How did you get the 3-wheeled cart?
I think you gotta get to papu in adventure mode and or buy one kart. It might pop up after dune buggy for a 3800ish bundle n after skipping the imperium a few times but i haven’t seen it up as much as other options
Cool thx for all the info i had no idea about the reserve and the other types of boosts
Looks like snaking has come back over 10 years, the vicious rivalry of Egg1 and Drybones bomber has trained me for this then.
I NEVER hated crash bandicoot when I couldn't catch up with other racers and now I see it and needed to get the hang of it.
Keep up the great work bro!
Yeah I learned that a long time ago when I use to play crash nitro kart and couldn't beat the final boss
i learn this trick on my own, heres a better tip if you hit a turbo pad you will get huge flames in the back and you will want to maintain that fire by drifting perfect every time if you lose it then you will lose your fast speed and also you will NEED that huge fire for some shortcuts like the big jump on blizzard bluff and many others that require you to have high jump risk/reward jumps. i notice that if i keep the huge flames im more likely to beat the AI on hard than if i dont have the huge fire in the back because if i dont have it then the ai will just speed pass me so once you hit that turbo pad and you get big fire keep it as long as you can and the best class to have it with is drift because the fire last longer and turning is like acceleration but more perks.
This helped me a lot for the power sliding thanks
Thanks for the video, just one question, do you lose sacred fire when you stop with the square button?
I always started getting insane speeds on some maps, but didn't know it was an entire mechanic
This video was Soooo helpful
Oh yeah a little tip of sacred fire that is when your in n gin labs when your hitting the unlimited sacred fire track when the end of it keep drifting and you keep the reserve and sacred fire *the more you know*
You guys are definitely gonna need these skills for Tiny Temple in time trials
So this is why online mode is so hard haha. I knew about powersliding but I never knew reserves was a thing in the original CTR.
Deep Sea Driving is the most satisfying to get USF in. It is so amazing just going by everything at blazing fast speeds.
So when I hold the controller, do i keep holding the R1 or L1 constantly and press the opposite every now and again or do you have to constantly press them one after another. Like I wish there was a video showing the controller. I am so close to giving up trying to drive with drift boost but it hurts my fingers soooo much! I don't know what i'm doing wrong!!
great explanation of the hidden mechanics
On what driving style do you have it on ?
