Great video Rob but i'd love to see a few more videos on Judgement too (and yes i still miss Hollie's enthusiasm for the series, but Rosie likes it too) :)
Rob out here displaying that he really HAS been practicing since the original release xD some of these I had no idea (like the speed boost while powersliding? Fkn glorious)
yes i like the game in general but one thing that sucks is every single CNK map that they made changes to the track as we were able drive upside down on some parts and all the loops and stuff
You mentioned pretty much all the main tips, but you forgot a detail about the turbo sliding tip, which is that other than the gauge, you have other visual cues to tell when the turbo is ready: -When the exhaust smoke turns black -When the burning lines on the wheels meet at their center (the Nitro Wheels feature). Obviously, the gauge is better cause more accurate and easy to read, but since it's apart from the track (you have to look at the bottom right corner, leaving the track unattended), the wheels and the exhaust are a more "closer to the track" option. Great video nonetheless~
Tip: Let go of accelerate and hold brake (square/y depending on the console) to make really tight turns. Even just a small tap can get you around 90 degree turns like the one’s in Papu’s Pyramid, and the speed loss is usually pretty small. Just don’t try to do it out of a powerslide.
I feel like you guys left one more thing out. Tip #10: customization. Some people may argue with me but I tested out a theory. I used coco and knowing her build as in average size like how big or small m. She’s average size so I put her in a relatively small vehicle with thin wheels and I was zooming, including powersliding. But I was using fake crash or another character same as him in a average size car and I was going incredibly slow. Even though the wheels and car have no stats in the game, I feel like the size matters. I have noticed that without powersliding some cars are faster than others, also depending on who you put in the car. I refuse to believe that powersliding in this game means everything and I’m gonna find the solution
Strawberry Knight, when you become a master class CTR player like me and Rob, the only class that truly matters is yourself. You leave everyone in the dust. Plus, N. Gin, Coco, Pinstripe, and Penta Penguin can access shortcuts that require higher jumps easier than other characters like in Cortex Castle.
@@nedkelly8958 Sewer Speedway shortcut is also WAAAAY easier on an acceleration class than any other class cuz as said before. Their jump is better. And speedrunners all use coco.
Should've mentioned how sacred fire and ultra sacred fire works as mastering these can shave massive amounts of time on some tracks, such as meteor gorge deep sea driving and oxide station etc... Maintaining the USF will lead to you blazing by the other racers.
This isn't crash team racing related but I need to talk about the pain I just went through when it came to getting my recent platinum. Okay so recently (like the last 6 months) I've become an achieve hunter, I've gone out my way to platinum any game I can and they've all gone well (like I finally got my Rainbow six siege platinum because they fixed a bugged trophy) but by god I'll never complain about how hard a trophy is again. I recent platinumed DOOM In preparation for DOOM ETERNAL, the thing is is that I 100% EVERYTHING in DOOM BUT...THERE WAS A BUG, it was my last trophy, "Complete the circle" where you have to earn ALL runes, I've done this across 3 different save slots (all bugged) and I never noticed but in my current 100% save I UPGRADED ALL THE RUNES, I then looked in the trophy list out of confusion and I saw this mess, I had all other trophies including the one where I upgrade all runes but I didn't have "Complete the circle" so I had to make ANOTHER save, and I don't play ANY save on the easiest difficulty, the lowest I've gone in DOOM is ultra violence and my 100% save was on nightmare (that was hard) but I decided to be really special and put my new save for just getting the runes on nightmare as well, after 12 hours I've finally got the last trophy and by extension the platinum, the bad thing? I didn't get ANY sleep. Luckily it's school holiday but I'll say this...I'll NEVER DO THAT AGAIN. I will always love DOOM and it's the only game I'd go through all that to platinum...but after that No, never again, I like my sleep, shortening my game time is a good idea
If you're like me, a god in old skool CTR. None of it's challenges could faze you. Some mechanics are quite different. Let's take the sewer for example, the hard shortcut is really not as much a matter of speed but of angle and timing. To make the jump, don't focus all your energy on speed. Just make sure you're perpendicular to the edge, you'll jump much higher en be able to pull it of no sweat. Like the good ol' days.
Basically the karts that have the best speed are the best karts in the game cause it's just getting used to the turning and you're set. acel karts are good if you except to be getting hit a lot which shouldn't happen if you're skilled driver. Handling karts are good for snaking on straight runways and beginners but lack the speed needed.
I promised to my friends that i get platinum trophy in this game. I just wanna say... *it was mistake.* Oh yeah just one trophy remaining: Beat every Nitros Oxide ghosts. Kill Me.
playing against someone in the same room - Hold L1+R1 and Press Triangle, Right (x2), Circle, Left at the menu screen - it'll open up several shortcuts that are difficult without the Super Turbo Pads, especially over the fence on Blizzard Bluff and cutting out a significant section of the track on Papu's Pyramid
I’m pretty sure Mario kart doesn’t have this many mechanics Here are some expert advices.. There are some hidden mechanics u missed, like hitting (square button in ps3/ X button in Xbox) while rotating or drifting in midair will give you a boost if you are driving fast. Just make sure you hit the button while in midair. Also, the color of the fire indicates how fast and how long the boost will last. I think there are 4 degrees of fire: small red, bing red, yellow, and blue. Another hint is you can maintain your speed boost if you successfully use the drifting boost. Another way to maintain the boost is by landing while drifting. I hope that helps.. and good luck with your race 👍
Specific tips, but if you’re in first, the blue homing orb is getting close, and someone is close behind in 2nd, you can let them overtake you so it’ll hit them instead of you (make sure they’re on the other side of the track though). That and there are some boost pads that last indefinitely until you brake or touch a wall, like the one at the end of cortex’s castle.
"Characters play different" "Oxide's ghosts are hard and you need to beat them in every track for the trophy" "CTR Challenge is the best mode to find shortcuts" This video didn't aged well, did it? *Sorry for the bad english
Great tips. I just picked this up last night and starting figuring it out rather quick. I can't believe I never played the original. I had crash bandicoot as a kid but never heard of CTR. Anyway one tip I have is if you're used to playing racing games like I am, especially for this generation, switch your controller to the alternate setting. This make the acceleration button R2 instead of X. The X button then becomes jump and L1 remains a jump button. I found this very helpful and just feels way more natural especially when power sliding and boosting.
I'm playing CTR since i 6 years old in PS the power sliding got more advanced and the secret places in the track has been able to go more easily thanks for PS4 and thanks for PLAYSTATION ACCESS
I disagree with how you described using items in races, holding items is important but if you're in first and taking the fast route like the short cuts... drop items there as they can even exist in the air. This will throw people off the shortcut especially since a lot have precision or set up in a very simple path. Holding onto rockets though means giving up defense for offense... letting people hit you and take your fruits losing speed and item power and most tracks have a lot of turns making rockets pretty bad and bombs generally better as you can throw that to the side of someone and their TNT or Beaker won't save them. You need to avoid the crab bucket and get people stuck in it, that person in 8th getting an Orb that decimates you in first will happen... your Nitro becomes a TNT which isn't worth calling an item and that Beaker becomes green doing very little in of itself. Get in first and stay in first by cutting off the fast routes. If you know how each class handles and their turning radius this makes it even easier as a beaker can force someone to fall off the track one way or the other...
I am the best Mario Kart player in my circle of family and friends, but learning to slide as a newbie in CTR is rough. Can't wait til it clicks in my brain and I am zipping around faster than Nitros.
I've beat CTR back in the day so many times, Oxide times and all...but currently going online, its insane! Although I am starting to get in 3rd/4th place now lol
3:08 After the 2nd red light turns on I start filling that bar, I do it three times and it's always fully filled that way, I hope u understand what I wanted to say and it will hopefully help someone.
That first point is almost completely wrong. Yes, there are a bunch of characters in the game. But there's only 4 classes: "slow" turning characters (pura, polar, etc.) , the intermediate characters (crash, cortex, etc.), "fast" characters (dingodile, tiny, etc.) and acceleration characters (n gin, coco, etc.). Realistically, only the fast and acceleration classes are viable on a competitive level and the others are rather situational. And yes, every character fits into one of these four classes. There are no "upgraded versions" of other characters.
I'd also say that the setup for the boost display is a big difference. If you get thrown off by the small boost display, then the large one might be better suited for you.
For tip 3 for a easy way to time it is to watch the back of your kart when the smoke from your exhaust turns black you can get your boost if you wait a split second after the black smoke you will get the full boost that way you never have to look at the bottom right of your screen and can keep your eyes on the track and your character
My other comment is much more advanced stuff, so for the newbies who are intimidated by it, here are some more simple tips I can give you regarding powerup usage. Bowling bombs are clumsy and inaccurate, so I like to use them for things other than shooting the players when I can. For example, did you know that if you shoot a crate with one, you will get what it gives you? Good for collecting wumpa fruit without going out of your way to hit a distant box. Another good use is to remove a trap before you hit it. Also, you're more likely to hit by tossing a bomb behind you on a straightaway. Placing traps on powerup boxes is neat, but here are some other things you can do. If you place it onto a wumpa fruit box, you can prevent that box from reappearing until someone removes the trap. Also, place traps directly before jumps. If your opponent hit it, they will fall off the track, turning even a green potion into a nuisance that will cost them a ton of time. If you want to prevent people from taking shortcuts, you can place your traps right before the shortcut so that they can't make it. If you want to screw with the more advanced players, you can also place traps on top of turbo pads so that it is harder for advanced players to use them to get Sacred Fire or maintain their reserves. If you get a homing orb, don't use it until you are juiced up so that it hits everyone in front of you. Conversely, if you're in first and you get a shield, don't shoot it. It will keep you from getting hit by a homing orb at least once. If you have an opponent directly behind you and a homing orb is hurtling at you, you can also let them pass so that they become the target of the orb instead. Lastly, for more advanced players, if you get a missile or an orb and you know a jump or an Ultra Sacred Fire pad is coming, wait to use it until just before your opponent reaches it to prevent them from getting USF, which can cost them the race if you're good at Sacred Fire yourself, or to make them fall off the stage. Or both.
Most of the skills from CTR are transferrable from Mario Kart. Some of the mechanics are different like drifting and items, but generally, they’re the same. If you’ve mastered one, you’ve mastered the other.
Except for drifting and very sharp turns Mario kart sharp turn only requires u brakeing at the right time while crash team racing requires you pressing multiple buttons.

Great video Rob but i'd love to see a few more videos on Judgement too (and yes i still miss Hollie's enthusiasm for the series, but Rosie likes it too) :)
For me Coco was always my choice, on the PS1 game I played as her all the time in CTR and Crash Bash
Rob was born to make this video.
Isn't Pura pronounced "Pur-ruh"? That's how I always said it. Like "pur" because he's a cat.
It's Pur-ruh 😎
I've always said it as pure-ra as a kid, so I probably won't be changing that even though I know it's probably not the right pronunciation.
I always pronounce it as pure-a. Or pyur-a
Pronounce it like the Spanish word
Hey journalists that plays CTR the days before release who can't boost. Watch this first!
I've got 3 simple tips
1. don't play Mario kart
2. *GIT GUD*
3. Play ring rally to learn the maps shortcuts
Rob out here displaying that he really HAS been practicing since the original release xD some of these I had no idea (like the speed boost while powersliding? Fkn glorious)
This game from one race I've played it feels and plays like the original and the graphics are just sexy 🤟🤟
yes i like the game in general but one thing that sucks is every single CNK map that they made changes to the track as we were able drive upside down on some parts and all the loops and stuff
You mentioned pretty much all the main tips, but you forgot a detail about the turbo sliding tip, which is that other than the gauge, you have other visual cues to tell when the turbo is ready:
-When the exhaust smoke turns black
-When the burning lines on the wheels meet at their center (the Nitro Wheels feature).
I've been a pro since I was 5. Can't wait to pick it up
I feel like you guys left one more thing out.
Top 10 if you beat Rob, you are automatically a master.I
I will take Rob on with my N. Gin!
Crisis Among Infinite Darths AC same, n. gin is my guy
Why N.Gin, that class is sooo bad haha!
None of the classes are bad when you’re good.
I will always love DOOM and it's the only game I'd go through all that to platinum...but after that No, never again, I like my sleep, shortening my game time is a good idea
was it worth it?
is this a copypasta
Sweet Glory
Did you Platinum persona 5?
@@stormbreak7003 I don't have persona 5 m8.
The bosses you unlock are not “upgraded versions” of the characters we start with. They have the same stats.
Back when I was a kid I didn't even know you could drift boost in these games 😂
Been waiting for the release!!
Yeah when I saw that the Platinum required the time trial, I was like ''well, that's a no for me''
I promised to my friends that i get platinum trophy in this game. I just wanna say...
*it was mistake.*
Oh yeah just one trophy remaining: Beat every Nitros Oxide ghosts. Kill Me.
I got the platinum trophy three days ago lol
I am german and my english is okey, not good. But i must say the sound of your voice nd how you speak is brilliant!!!!!!!!!!
I ll be happy to watch replay after finish racing, must be marvelous.
playing against someone in the same room - Hold L1+R1 and Press Triangle, Right (x2), Circle, Left at the menu screen - it'll open up several shortcuts that are difficult without the Super Turbo Pads, especially over the fence on Blizzard Bluff and cutting out a significant section of the track on Papu's Pyramid
I've not played yet but looking forward to it. 😁
Richard Macleay same here. I just picked this up today. I know I won’t be as good as others but as long as I have fun, I’m fine 🙂
Rob absolutely nailed this video!
Rob has been waiting all his life to make this exact video. Love the channel guys!
I’m pretty sure Mario kart doesn’t have this many mechanics
Here are some expert advices..
This game is so super awesome.
all we need now is a crash bash remake
"Characters play different"
"Oxide's ghosts are hard and you need to beat them in every track for the trophy"
"CTR Challenge is the best mode to find shortcuts"
This video didn't aged well, did it?
*Sorry for the bad english
Just posted new video where i am beating Cortex Castle Developer Time Trial. Be sure to check it out!
I found this very helpful and just feels way more natural especially when power sliding and boosting.
the controling mostly when you got boost from 1 and 4 made it look i play CTR for the first time ever.
Is Rob the best in the world? We need a global leaderboard.
I'm playing CTR since i 6 years old in PS the power sliding got more advanced and the secret places in the track has been able to go more easily thanks for PS4 and thanks for PLAYSTATION ACCESS
This has helped me so much for my switch version! Thank you! Never played it as a kid!
So nice to see so many skilled veterans and newcomers! See you on the racetrack!
2019 and the nostalgia from this video is bringing back so many memories thanks for the vid man
I am the best Mario Kart player in my circle of family and friends, but learning to slide as a newbie in CTR is rough. Can't wait til it clicks in my brain and I am zipping around faster than Nitros.
In ctr 1999 i was always 1st..but in The new one im last one :D
God yes... I just picked up this game today. It's been... a humbling experience.
Same bro, like did this game get harder ?
Doesn't help that some of the physics have changed... walls now cuck you of all your speed instead of bumping you back on the track.
I've beat CTR back in the day so many times, Oxide times and all...but currently going online, its insane!
Although I am starting to get in 3rd/4th place now lol
@@Calypz0910 same bro same. I have to go tryhard mode just to get 3rd or 4th online. Its insane
The AI in adventure mode is so frustrating but the game is still fun. Thanks for the tips.
For tip 3 for a easy way to time it is to watch the back of your kart when the smoke from your exhaust turns black you can get your boost if you wait a split second after the black smoke you will get the full boost that way you never have to look at the bottom right of your screen and can keep your eyes on the track and your character
My dream game was CTR NF. I did not buy a PS4, but now I can play it on PS5. I got it! I'm so happy! =D Came here for the awesome tips, thank you!
Can't wait for this to come to PC. CTR was the first game I ever played and first game I owned so the nostalgia is pretty real!
I hope the graphics look glorious on PC
ATTENTION. CAREFUL WITH TIME TRIALS, THE MODE IS LINKED TO SAVE CORRUPTION ON PS4 WHICH SHOULD BE PATCHED SOON BUT JUST STAY WARY
If you're on Xbox One or Nintendo Switch, this is reportedly not an issue. But yes, I will wait on my PS4 copy to get into time trials.
This is very useful and i actually knew 8/9 tips, except the first one, though its the same which one you pick
What a great tips video. I've just bought this on switch but this is really well presented. Great work.
This game (and the original) is the reason why Rob is here 😁
From a seasoned veteran, these are really good tips! Well done!
as of now online has been kind of easy for me.. most of the times no one even get a chance to finish a race.
Ranked mode would be nice.
I remember loving playing as the tiger when I was a little kid. That or the polar bear.
This is essentially the tips given during Adventure mode after winning each race...
This.
I don't know why people are thanking him for sharing his "secrets", it's all common sense stuff, no secrets here. If he had a number 10, it would have been..."Know which controller buttons do what".
Omg this was my childhood!!! Watching this gave me so much nostalgia
Yassssssssss!!! So, so excited for this! Ctr was my childhood! Brilliant video, Rob! Can't wait to get racing 🏁🏁🏁
Man the power slide mechanic on this is tough to get the hang of. Seems like I just cannot he into the power slide half the time.
Same, I a,ways just hop. It’s so weird.
Oh Robert you devious man, this platinum looks very tough, not played this game in years, good luck in getting platinum and go smash em online!!
Tip 10: Learn how to utilize the speed boosts given by warp pads
I wouldn't say race smart but race consistent.
*Crunch* my BOI, we got work to do👍
Crunch main gang
I never used powerslides/boosts when I played this as a kid, but still used to be great at it. I should really learn how to 'boost'.
