I have knit brioche a number of times, including a hat, a cowl, and scarf, and a large rect. shawl. It is quite fun to knit brioche once you get going with it. I like to use the Addi Flexi-flips for socks and sleeves. That's the one I believe you were trying to think of. Sometimes the part of the sleeve near the shoulder is a little big, so I'll start with magic loop for that part and then change to flexi-flips. Thanks for the fun show!

So glad you enjoyed the episode, Tane! Funny you mention brioche . . . In the episode I just posted I describe how I struggle with it!

I have knitted socks with Magic Loop and while it's ok, I much prefer using DPNS for socks. For knitting sleeves and other small circumferences (not socks) I invested in a set of ChiaGoo Twist Shorties (Size 4 - 8 US needles), They have short tips and 3 sizes of short cords that I love especially for knitting sleeves. If you're a sweater knitter, they are worth checking out. They also sell a set for size 0 -3 US. Love the visit to the Blue Ridge, especially seeing the shops and local yarns. Souvenir local yarn shopping is my favorite travel shopping!

Hi Jody! I'm so glad you enjoyed the episode. I must admit I have my eye on those ChiaGoo shorties!! I'm very tempted to test them out on the second sleeve.

My first brioche was the Brioche Cable Cowl by Hannah Tempest, a free Ravelry download. My Japanese daughter-in-law picked this out while I was visiting in Japan and was so kind during my stay that I could not refuse. It was such a fun way to learn brioche! She absolutely loves the cowl. She and my son bought a condo in the Japanese Alps where they ski and snowboard, so this warm cowl gets good use, well worth the expense of the Rowan yarn, which was easy to get in Tokyo. I am unsure how it would knit up in your Irish multi-color green, but you could use a double strand for the bulk weight that the pattern calls for. I think it would be stunning, and you could knit it a bit longer, to avoid the “choking” cowl look. Well, I won’t be disappointed if you choose a different pattern, but maybe this will be helpful.

oooh, that cowl looks nice! How wonderful to have family to visit in Japan! It's high on my list to visit! And I'm so curious about the Japanese knitting scene. So much great stuff comes from there.

The scenery you showed is stunning I do however have the blue ridge mountains of Virginia ringing in my ears now lol. I haven't tried brioche either so good luck finding a headband that you enjoy.

I happen to be knitting two socks at a time using the magic loop method while watching your podcast. 😊 I prefer it when knitting TAAT socks, but I use DPNs for knitting a single sock and sweater sleeves.

Ah, magic loop for TAAT socks makes total sense. I haven't tried doing that yet, but I definitely want to. No second sock syndrome!

    Mélanie,
    Greetings from Laval, Québec
If you consider yourself a knitting bigamist, then I guess that makes me a polygamist !
I always have at least three kinds of projects going on at the same time, and more that one project have been known to coexist in each category.
Those categories are socks, shawls, garments, head and hand accessories just to name a few.
I can't resist the thrill of starting a new project, of deciding what yarn to choose from my stables (Stash Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy), of choosing which needles I'm going to use, of putting everything in a project bag along with all the knitting accessories I'll be needing....well, you understand, don't you ?
Although I'm as loyal as a Labrador to my family and friends, I'm afraid that I am not as faithful to a single yarn store. Living as I do in the suburbs of Montréal, I have easy access to almost a dozen great yarn stores. And that's not counting the canadian stores I can order from online....
I used to make my sleeves and my socks with DPNs, then I moved to Magic Loop, and now I use mini sets by Chiao Goo. I also tried the Flexi Flips by Addi, but they never grew on me. Knitting in the round without having to pull on the cord or to change needle is divine and things get done a lot faster that way, at least for me they do. I had some difficulty in the beginning because I found the small needles too short and I would get cramps on my right hand from trying to grip it. Now, I knit with one needle of the 2 in set on the left side and I use the longer needle (the 3 in) on my right side and all is well again with my hand.
Looking forward to your next capsule,
    Cheers,

Bonjour Isabelle! Yes, I've heard there are wonderful yarn stores in Montreal. I was there the summer of 2019 but the pandemic hadn't yet made me into the yarn addict I am today. I have to go back! And I am eager to try those Chiagoo minis. I stopped by my LYS to see them yesterday but they were sold out. Thanks so much for your note!
