    Dude....awesome how to video. Extremely informative and helpful. I watched this a couple times then went out and tackled my own project. I knew exactly what to do and what areas to be careful on. Like not just pulling the compressor off once I got it unbolted. I pulled it out a little bit and unplugged the back connection before removing. Had I not known, I probably would have yanked the connection right off. Also good to know about adding and circulating the oil in the compressor and hoses. Thank you very much for making this step by step video. Made my project a lot easier and saved me a lot of frustration. Really appreciate your help. Surprised by all the other peoples complaints, I thought it was a great video.

    Thanks for this great video! I have a 2000 Trail Blazer (no such model of Trail Blazer in the books, for that year, so it must be a custom order; seems to be loaded with all the bells and whistles). Will be doing the AC install myself and this video makes it look doable. I hate getting into a repair and keep finding all kinds of hidden attachments, etc. This video shows it to be very straight forward. Thanks for the oil tips.
    Btw, I installed a new water pump last year, and YES, an old woman can do these things! Also, the actuator under the dash needs to be addressed next.....ugh! Are you making a video of that any time soon? ;)
    For the readers, a Haynes manual does come in handy. The manual for a 1995-2001 Blazer is the Haynes Manual, Cheverolet S-10 & GMC Sonoma Pick-ups.

      Your '00 Trailblazer is actually just an '00 Blazer/Jimmy, but with a so-called "Trailblazer" trim line, as opposed to the more common LS or LT trims that were available to these models. A couple years later the Trailblazer would become its own model and that trim line would be dropped from the 2nd gen Blazer series. And yes, you are correct, the Trailblazer was a fancier vehicle, with two-tone leather, probably heated seats, etc. But when you are working on it, engine jobs will almost always be the same for the following: Blazer (and your 00 Trailblazer), Jimmy, Olds' Bravada, S10 and Sonoma. And in rare cases if it's the only vid you can find, the Chevy Astro van and the GM Safari van both had this same 4.3 engine, too. FWIW, I'd advise you to hold on to that '00 Trailblazer. It's essentially a rare vehicle, because they only made them in '99, '00, and '01. It may reach a point were it starts to go up in value. I sure sure wish I had the '79 Toyota 4x4 truck I drove in high school back. :(

    Be careful when adding refrigerant oil, vehicle specifications for a 4.3 v6 call for 2 oz in the accumulator, 2 oz in the compressor, 1 oz in the compressor suction/ discharge hose, and 3 oz into the evaporator, which by the way accessing the evaporator can be a pain in the ass, but it can be done without removing the blower motor or the wheel, hope this helps some!

      What I just ran into was the front seal on the compressor failed & all the R134a leaked out. No problem, replace the seal and ready to refill. No. Not no, but hell no. The compressor had wore the bore out on 1 piston big enough to put a flat blade screwdriver between the piston and cylinder wall. All that metal heads straight to the condenser. The the office tube. Long story short, the newer model condensers have very small tubes. Cheaper to buy a new condenser than run multiple gallons of flushing solution thru it. Then of course replace the orfice tube because it is clogged. Then flush the evap core. Replace accumulator. Flush hoses.
      Unfortunately AC is not a replace the broke part then you are good to go. If you don't replace and clean everything else, you will be doing it all again soon. Sorry for the bad news, but better to know this before you start your repairs.

      Any time a compressor fails, it fills the system with trash. Either metal debris, or moisture and dirt. Replace everything- o rings, accumulator, condenser, txv or orifice tube, as well as compressor. Flush evaporator, and blow it out with clean compressed air(gently!!). A long vacuum, and overnight standby to verify no leaks before recharge will ensure a lasting repair.

      I know this was 5 months ago, but to answer your question, it is illegal to release freon into the atmosphere, so if your system has any, you need to recover it. His system clearly had a very bad leak in it, so there was very little freon left in the system (hence the small psshh when he released the tubes at the top of the compressor)

  • @dagmont4605

    One cuestión brother how much oil I put in the compressor.3 oz?

    • @GEARMOAUTO
      @GEARMOAUTO  5 років тому +1

      I believe so. There should be an AC sticker under the hood which should say the amount of oil that should be in the system. Usually like 5 oz or so. In that case i would put 3 in the compressor and 2 throughout the system. Tech tip: put the oil in the compressor and put the compreasor on the pulley side so the oil can run through the compressor. Leave it sitting in diffrent positions a few mins each way. Then when you have it installed on the vehicle twist the pulley so the internals can get some movement and lubrication before the belt is installed. Best of luck.

    Does this work if the ac and heat doesn't blow??

    • @GEARMOAUTO
      @GEARMOAUTO  7 років тому +1

      +Naomi Mason the heater not working would no be related to the ac compreaaor being bad. Do you mean theres no air flow from the vents? If so that would be a blower fan issue.

    • @Indigenousnaomi
      @Indigenousnaomi 7 років тому

      Gearmo Auto yes when I go to turn my ac/heat on nothing comes out... I want to try to fix it myself wht do you consider I get??

    • @GEARMOAUTO
      @GEARMOAUTO  7 років тому

      +Naomi Mason Theres 3 likely problems, (other issues may exist too). Maybe the switch is bad. Try kinda hitting the switch while ui have it on to see if there is a loose connection. Also the blower motor is under the dash on the passanger side, while u have everything turned on give the bottom of the motor a good few thumps to see if it comes on , if it turns on at all then u have a bad blower motor. ( i know it sounds caveman style to hit the motor but we use this trick all the time to find bad motors. What happens is the inside of the blower gets worn and hitting it shakes the inside a little and can make it work momentarily). Also there might be a bad resistor which is most likely inside the dash. But do the motor test first. Usually the blower motor is the weak link of the system. Let me know if it works!
