Love the Zeus, especially the -6T. Doubling the damage of your main gun and getting rid of ammo concerns is a great bargain for only the cost of some extra heat. Also, regardless of what I'm playing--HBS Battletech, MWO, MechWarrior 5, or tabletop, I always swap the medium laser and large laser's position. If I lose both of my torsos, I want the large laser to be my final weapon.
The Zeus is a "Light Atlas". Its not as armored or armed as I would like for an Assault Mech. It has the common problem of only having enough ammo for about 60seconds of combat. I dont love it, but like many mechs I like working on it in the shop. Upgrade it with lostech. Swapping from Single to Double-Heat Sinks would allow additional tonnage to go to armor. If youre going to use an Autocannon, it has to be a 10damage rated model. Ac-10 or preferably a lostech LBX AC-10. A big issue is if the speed of the Zeus should be retained. Having a 64kph engine almost cuts its tonnage for weapons, armor, and equipment in half.
Personally, I felt that the Zeus X given to and modified by Stacy Church was a better direction to take the Zeus X line, but I’m not in charge of Defiance Industries. Then again, I also like the Zeus with the blazer cannon, so maybe it’s for the best.
Unique refits can sometimes be good basis for 'mechs, like we saw with the Vindicator in the past, but the Zeus X I have so many problems with how fragile it is...
Stacy's actually has a standard frame, plus blueshield. It also goes back to a 320 light, which implies a significant level of refit. That or the Zeus X she got was never really expanded on in the project.
Zeus. An assault mech what I somehow ended up liking after having a reinforced company vs another for a skirmish. Had it accompanying a Stalker (-5M), what attracted enemy fire while zeus sniped. 😂 (And that Stalker even lived by it’s advertisement slogan)
In my head, I've always thought of the Zeus as Steiner's overweight "heavy" mech. In the Lyran way of often bringing too much tonnage for a job, the Zeus has the armor, speed, and firepower of many 70-75t mechs.
@@ProfessorHeyTeeEn You could, but that wouldn't be the Steiner way. Sensible mech designs are more a Davion trait. I'm looking at you, Warhammer 6D/Crusader 3D/Marauder 3D.
The Zeus 6S is a "camel" (aka a horse designed by a committee). It has a weird mix of weapons that do somthing at every range but with inconsistent results. The Mechs lacks staying power on the battlefield with only 11.5 tons of armor and 1 ton of ammo for the LRM-15 and also does not have the offensive power expected from a 80 ton Mech. The 6T variant is an improvement much more capable. Most of the Zeus "upgrades" are quite good, e.g. the 9T and actually deliver what is expected of the Zeus.
The original few Zeus were just not good enough to make the cut, but once you get a few "effeciency upgrade" on there, it does become rather fantastic.
I enjoy most of the body kits for the Zeus, it has that "US Football linebacker" feel to him most of the time. The most recent CGL model is not bad either.
The Thug is harder to cover as there isn't "much" to talk about as it was wholly replaced by the Hatamoto-Chi. It might be something to cover down the line of course.
I see it as an ok machine, but overall inferior to the Thunderbolt. Sure it lacks the AC/5 or PPC, but the Thunderbolt packs superior armor and far better close in weapons for a machine that is 15 tons lighter. On the other side they do make decent Lance mates.
Solid fast assault mech. Speed, good weapons mix, and cheap. The OG Steiner scout mech meme.
As a support unit, it is rather fantastic and is a great anchor for most Succession Wars to early Clan Invasion era Lyran lances.
Even after years in the hobby, I still chuckle every time the Partikill line of PPCs get mentioned. Such a good name.
You just know a company would JUMP on trademarking that name for a weapon.
@@ProfessorHeyTeeEn Seriously. Battletech has some real bangers for weapon names. Was it the large laser that had Lord's Light as a class name?
Zeus is such a fun mech to run.

The Zeus already has plenty of heat sinks, so it really isn't a big tradeoff.

With a PPC instead of the AC/5, it's already a huge improvement.
Thanks professor 😊
You are very welcome

God, guns, and Battletech. I really like how you go over variats. I'm finding some I like on mechs I'm not big on.
There is generally at least one variant I would run on most 'mechs, but sometimes you have to dig deep to find it.

You could build a better Zeus at 70 tons I feel...

Not the prettiest, but a reliable variety of long range by Succession War standards.

Can you cover my boy the Thug?

I want to like it, but I just have total scorn for the AC5. Later model Zeus' are much more to my taste.
The 2 class and 5 class autocannons are just not making the cut for most Mechs when the PPC is about as heavy...
