As someone who came to Battletech via the PC and Xbox games, I know very little about the extended lore, and have never had any of the RPG books, so I really enjoy the LoreWarrior stuff in general. This story was cool, more vids like this would be good, really liked it.
As someone in the same boat, I very much agree. The "extra fluff" is what makes the game special, and makes it different and better than just another rock'em-sock'em-battlebots. The distinct LACK of the "extra fluff" is part of why MWO sucks so much compared to the standalone single-player games.
Really enjoyed it.Nice little change of pace. I am trying to find one called "The tools we serve" Wiki says it was published April 2012 and its about the "Black Omen" mercenary group and the Clans. Thats all I know. Can you Help?
I have some of the Battle Tech Books explaining lore and Battles but I never knew about the magazine. This was a nice change of pace thx. BTW I really enjoy Blood Bowl.
I have a BT lore question that came up today and got me had me wondering. Why didn't the IS or the Clans use Nuclear Weapons? In a series by David Drake called Hammer Slammers they had dampers that greatly reduced the effects of Nuclear Weapons. I'm positive noting like that existed in BT. BTW the Drake Novels would have made a great on line game I'm surprised nobody tried it.
LAMOE2012 Well nukes did see extensive use during the early succession wars, but the sheer devastation caused and loss of life put the entire inner sphere on the brink of technological downfall. As such all sides agreed to the Ares convention which made use the nukes illegal and pretty much ensured that any house or periphery state that used them would be targeted by all sides and attacked. I think by the third and fourth succession wars they had gotten rid of their nuclear arsenals. Clans however never used them simply because it is dishonourable in their eyes to use weapons like artillery to engage the enemy. They prefer a fight that emphasises skill hence their focus on calling out batchalls (battle challenges) to their opposing 'mech pilots. Even in the worst scenario they would never use nukes and so far as I know they have no nukes left either, after they tried using one on the fleeing Wolverine clan and it backfired horribly and blew up the Snow raven capital.
Both are good in different ways. Honestly the most fun in MW5 is crashing around one of the procgen urban areas in coop and afterwards seeing how messed up it is.
@@CriticalRocket Yeah, I like what I've seen of MW5, and what I've played of HBS. Can't coolaid man or melee the bigger buildings in HBS sadly, just the smaller ones. Which can help when you need to stomp out a bunch of generic brick and glass warehouses that are sitting on a freaking moon ruining your immersion.
Hello CR. First, let me say that I am 62, and that I have been playing Battletech since 1984. Second, I had that issue of Battletechnology once upon a time, and read that story several times over the decades, before an apt fire destroyed my collection. The story is a 'plausible' account of combat in a city. Being a veteran of the USMC, I can tell you that urban combat is an environment that causes combat situations to be 'fluid', and often lethal, yet heartbreakingly brief. You come out of such an encounter always questioning yourself. Could you have been ONE second faster on the trigger? Was there any chance that you could have maneuvered to better advantage? On and on, the questions run through your mind, and there is never a clear answer... even if you did everything 'right'. The bonds grown by shared danger can be broken by shared loss. In the story, even though the commander did everything he could, and everything 'right', still lost a lance mate, and in such a manner as to seem to have killed him himself. Such is the chaos of combat. Such are the results of the perceptions of one's teammates. And, such is life after death. This story has a bit of 'uncanny valley' to me. Where I have seen teammates wounded in combat, with nothing I could have done to have prevented it. Although, at the time, I questioned myself repeatedly, if I could have done anything, anything at all, to have altered the outcome. At times, this game mimics 'Real Life' far too closely for comfort. One has to remember, it is just a game.
It is one of the best short stories of the Battletechnology era. I would say it is a testament to the writers at the time to commit to trying to make the universe feel more real, but yeah I can understand how it might bring up bad memories for people in real life.
Please do more of these. I would share every one you made with so many people. Use more art to help tell the story and you have a series as good as Warhammer lore videos!
Some of them sadly there isn't enough art, like the aerotech stuff. Not many pics of the fighters to use unfortunately. Same with some 'mechs as well. I would love to be able to draw some myself haha.
They made 2 versions. The normal Wasp and Stinger and the LAM Wasp and Stinger. LAM tech was delicate and not very productive so they ended up discontinuing it.
VectorGhost The maps would have to become a lot bigger and the player numbers would have to increase also. Basically we need Planetside 2 for MechWarrior Online.
Im 45 been playing Battletech since 1989. My friends and I still play table top RPG Battletech. Thanks for sharing this
Glad you liked you it :)
Oh, BattleTechnology.. That hit me right in the nostalgics!
Great magazine, shame it stopped.
Please, more of these! So many great stories available, and your reading of this is great
I am looking into another one. Might makes these one a month or something.

Thank you for listening to them :) Glad you enjoy the extra fluff for the game.

Oh, I think you found the name of your retro 80s heavy metal band, Dropship Thunder!
I have some of the Battle Tech Books explaining lore and Battles but I never knew about the magazine. This was a nice change of pace thx. BTW I really enjoy Blood Bowl.
Glad you liked it :) Blood bowl is fun for me since I am a total noob at it against the AI haha.

Thanks a lot for a story !
I'm late to the story time...but I love it
Thanks :)
The feels.
this story was awesome.
Yeah I really like it. Simple but highlights the universe and it's style quite well.
Yes! We like this!!
Wow, this was a grim ending. Remind me a little the cartoon series, "You win the planet, not the population on it" suck it surat.
Yeah that was a blow at the time. Pity the second season never arrived with the Ghost Bears.
Bruh, this shit is great! You do a great job
Thanks :) I shall do more in the future.
This story does make me a bit emotional. #urbielivesmatter
haha, little Urbie gave it's life taking down an Atlas. #Urbiegiantkiller
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY More Battletech!
How did you like the urban destruction in HBS Battletech? Or MW5 for that matter.
Both are good in different ways. Honestly the most fun in MW5 is crashing around one of the procgen urban areas in coop and afterwards seeing how messed up it is.

hell yeah. that was awesome. isn't that wasp and stinger a LAMs
They made 2 versions. The normal Wasp and Stinger and the LAM Wasp and Stinger. LAM tech was delicate and not very productive so they ended up discontinuing it.
Critical Rocket if they put them in mech online they better allow them to transform. ill be using my flight stick an showing you walkers whats up :o
If they add the Wasp LAM and Stinger LAM then yeah they should transform. But I highly doubt it.
Critical Rocket =/ yeah my biggest gripe with this game is lack of combined arms and not really a true mech warrior game.
VectorGhost

Kind of feel the atlas gave that 1 away. Turning your back on a ppc and ac10 to deal with some arms and med las seems dumb.
Ordurves
They blamed him for the death of the Urbanmech? Get the f outa here with that bs.
