Need a durable yet lighter unit for a heavy or assault lance, take a shadow hawk. Need a mech to teach a new mechwarrior, take a shadow hawk. Need a mech to spot for fire support, take a shadow hawk. It is great at nothing but this versatility makes it truly a superb multipurpose platform.
@@duskhaunters3025 … oh man. Sorry to hear that mate. We’ve had a good soaking over here in California but so far we have escaped anything too bad. Hang in there Dom.
I have an opinion on these 3 mechs and which is better 1-6 Hexes the Wolverine 7-9 Hexes the Shadow Hawk 10-18 Hexes the Griffin If we're rapid firing the Autocannon definitely the Shadow Hawk outside of the Wolverines niche close in brawling
Shadow Hawk, iconic, and as a person who will play 3025 or 3152, plenty of cool variants to choose from, including some nice LB-10X ones. I appreciate analysis that takes BV into account. Good palette cleanser of a video as well.
Thanks! Yes, I think BV is often forgotten when talking about 'Mech value. Charger is a great example; cheap but you'd rather have another piece on the field than not have one!
Interesting take. Good video. I have to say that in all the BV balanced games that I've ever played I've never chosen to take a Shadow Hawk. Amongst the 55 ton trio I'd still pick the Wolverine. On a 1 on 1 basis-the S-Hawk can not force a PSR by damage points alone in the ranged combat phase. The Wolverine can, and not requiring all missiles to hit either. When have you ever thought " Oh crap, that S-Hawk might get behind me and open up my rear torsos in the ranged phase with a medium laser and an SRM-2" . Agree on the Griffin's weaknesses, but a 5/8/5 with a PPC can be bad news for a formation of heavies. Also-A LOT of the early maps in the game had Depth 1 water. With the 5 Jump Jets in the torsos the Griffin can max jump in and out of depth 1 water. I'm not a Griffin guy but a buddy of mine is. He always manages to make it worth it's BV. Even he realizes though that if the Griffin is forced to take on a Wolverine it's best move is to run away. IMHO the Shadow Hawks best quality is that it's not dangerous enough to be a priority target yet it's tough enough to survive getting beat on for a while.
After having played each of the Battlemechs, I rank them thus: For Mid-Short Range: Wolverine For Long Range: Griffin Needs-a-weapon-respec: Shadow Hawk (aka most likely to benefit from LosTech) It's Cheese, but the SRM 2 could use smoke rounds. That gives the 'Mech +2 to be hit, if it gets caught in the open with no shot. This Video made me want to check out the old Dougram designs. It's amusing to have all of the 'Mechs be 15-40 tons. (although still roughly the same heights). Also, there are little quirks like the Griffins having machine guns on both arms.
The Wolverine is the most optimized, the Griffin is the most specialized, and the Shadow Hawk is the most user/beginner friendly. That being said the Griffin is my favorite of the three.
Built in the late 60s. Big extension on the back, garage and garden redeveloped, new bathroom, all new carpets, most of the house decorated... At the moment, half my house doesn't have a roof ;)
Shadowhawk really! Hot Take today. ;) So a followed up episode, the three lesser know brothers the Shadowhawk, urbanmech and changer. Clearly the winners of the succession war era. ;)
Shadow Hawk is my fav. Just the looks and later variants leave the 2H to be a bit lackluster, HOWEVER the Shawk compensate vy being a great brawler Imo. Also. Leaning to be a left sided main weapon platform with the ballistic. I feel at home piloting it as a left hander😆
Griffins are hit or miss (don't do well with anything beside the Steiner or Royal Griffin), I am abysmal with Shadow Hawks, so I go Wolverine, with the Marik being my favorite 3025 machine.

I think the BattleTech community is like 95% incredible, and 5% the dregs of humanity. The absolute clown shows I've had to deal with recently is unprecedented; the lying, the slander, the nonsense...quite unbelievable. I can well understand why some people refuse to show their face, given some of the manics around. One advantage about being in the UK; the hicks, hacks and fanatics couldn't pick England out on a map, let alone seek to get here to pitchfolk me to death for having hot takes ;)
First, my apologies, but with the comments off on the latest video... Thank you for going deep into the why's and how's of IP and how companies utilize them. It's been the most logical and level headed thing I've heard in a bit. And I can honestly say that I agree with pretty much every thing you said (that I understood, heh) 100%. I consider myself an amateur lore historian and somewhat dodgy Mech commander. It's sad, in my opinion, when people jump before giving any thought to where they're going to land. Personally, I think most of us choose to 'escape' into these games and the hobby itself. Well, just like the Pardoe thing last year, this too, will pass. Anyway, great video, sir.
What kind of nufty loses Jump Jets for anything else ? Hell ive been known to pay the tax for improved jump jets and partial wing ..... Because jumping is king

I don't think anybody could criticise that decision; Wolverine is an objectively solid choice.
