This song represents most strongly music's power to attach itself to a certain moment for me. As soon as it begins, I'm transported back to my childhood, sat driving in the back of a hire car on the streets of cannes on a wonderful evening as the sun sets alongside the endless beach. My brother and sister are sat sleeping either side of me, and my parents are in the front, their smiles beaming back at me. I feel at home, I am privileged to have such memories, and owe them to this glorious song
You're privileged period if you spent your childhood on the French Riviera (Cannes) 😉 Good for you. Sounds like it was enhanced with loving relationships all around.
Me too it has so much meaning to me and i reflect on this song to do with my father who totally admired u2 when he was alive. We have favourites but love all because his voice is mesmorising. Plus he is damn sexy hee. 😍
Nah i think for the sake of defining their 2000s selections...beautiful day set the rest in motion but none did what that one did and where it wound up being used for promos
So true. And you cannot FULLY understand the sentiments of this song until you've reached a certain age or level of maturity. The bliss of youth and the novelty of life has a way of vanishing to the realities of life and time. Bruce Springsteen once wrote (and still sings) "...now I'm ready to grow young again..." (No Surrender).
I watched them in Philly and I have no reason why I felt so emotional when they sang this song. I took a live video of the moment and it’s amazing how music touches you. ❤️❤️
Listening to this song on Jan 1, 2020. I can’t believe the 2000s will be 20 this decade. I remember the 2000s like they were yesterday and a time were 20 years ago was the 80s. Throughout the 2010s, I had a hard enough time grasping the fact that the 90s was 20 years ago, let alone the 2000s.
This is my favourite U2 song, and arguably it's also their best (rivalled only by The Unforgettable Fire, I think). Not many bands are capable of releasing such a great song this far advanced in their musical careers.
This song takes me away. I cried the first time I heard this, which is strange since it's so upbeat. The words make me think of someone I wish was still in my life. The beauty of it is just unreal though!!!
This was my soundtrack as a fresh faced, 18 year old, country bumpkin living in London for the first time. It had just come out and it gave me strength being away from home for the first time.
Barack, thank you for this fantastic song. I mean my late Dad introduced me to U2 but hearing this song for the first time when Barack used it for his speeches made me love U2 even more.
I was given this album when I was 7. Immediately started listening to it and fell in love with this song. Never realised that 4 four years later it would be used by the man who became the 44th President of the United States. A sense of foreshadowing :)
M I'm still listening mate...U2 have evolved into an amazing band....all the time I have breath in my body...I will never tire of listening...God bless all & your families.
Great song!!!!!!! I remember on January 20th 2009, hearing Elliot in the morning on DC101, when they played this song before their intro and they went on the air. As well as President Obama, coming out to this song at the DNC this past summer. I will always think Obama when hearing this song. Thank you for 8 great years President Obama.
The world needs more songs like this.

your words are so empathic.. 🖤
This sounds like the beginning of a great novel
I spent my whole childhood listening U2. This song means a lot to me! It's epic!
So you didn't spend anything... You gained better taste in music
Me too it has so much meaning to me and i reflect on this song to do with my father who totally admired u2 when he was alive. We have favourites but love all because his voice is mesmorising. Plus he is damn sexy hee. 😍
I wanna wish a Happy early 61st Birthday to U2’s Drummer Larry Mullen Jr
one of the best intros in a song ever!
The best U2's song of the 2000's by far.
Walk On wants to talk
@Brandon Mooremany are saying there's a dark side Kobe had in his life very Hollywood occult roots ???
@Brandon Moore well, God have mercy on the innocent people caught up in such a tragedy !

Magnificent is the best. This is a close second
Such an underrated song.
Some songs seem to give you wings.

No need for red bull
David Mole why not both
@@elfonero1492 or does feel like you're flying doesn't it
So *that's* why Bono sings "I'm getting ready to leave the ground" before the choruses.
"What happened to the beauty I have inside of me?" That line really hits me hard.
Me too!!!
The line "Oh you look so beautiful tonight" is about Bono looking at all the New Yorkers down below. That is pure magic 😄😭😄😭

I knew this song from that movie 😗☝🏻
U2 opened with this on the tour for this album. It was the best opening to any concert I have ever been to over many years.
Saw them perform this song live a few nights ago. Needless to say, it gave me chills. Love the Edge's guitar tone.
One of the best songs ever
I watched them in Philly and I have no reason why I felt so emotional when they sang this song. I took a live video of the moment and it’s amazing how music touches you. ❤️❤️
The melody is so... full of feeling!! I love that guitar
The Edge's genius.
The best song from that album by far. It's a bit like their older stuff and has a unique sound along with good lyrics. Plus the Edge killing it.
Other of my favorites songs of this band awesome U2. 🙏🏻
One of the best bands ever !
The Devil Wears Prada 🤩

M D I wish I was grown up during the 80s omg. Was born in September of ‘89. I mean the 90s were cool too! But I love the 80s
Autumn Ball, I just wish I didn’t grow up in the 2000s, literally any other generation would be better
Time is time! Gotta enjoy every bit of it!
But... you still look so beautiful tonight, baby!
Time is outta our grasp doesn't it?
(I was like between 8 or 10 yrs
I understand just a little about how you feeling right now)
This is my favourite U2 song, and arguably it's also their best (rivalled only by The Unforgettable Fire, I think). Not many bands are capable of releasing such a great song this far advanced in their musical careers.

My 2nd favourite song of this century. Awesome job U2! If other songs of 2000's were like this, I would blow up of listening to U2.
The studio version is good but the live version is so much better. The best opening song for a concert ever
Igor Alvaro I think it works best for a closing song!
Zoo station is their best opening song
@@oilersrock9350 Where the Streets Have No Name is incredible, as well
OMG, IT REMINDS ME OF ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES "The Devil Wears Prada" they play that song, when Miranda and Andy arrived to Paris. Lovely .....
I love this song a lot. I used to listen this song a lot back in 2006. It brought me lots of memories and tears.

Barack, thank you for this fantastic song. I mean my late Dad introduced me to U2 but hearing this song for the first time when Barack used it for his speeches made me love U2 even more.
This song reminds me of the lovely times my husband and I shared in the early days of our courtship. Infact it always reminds me of my husband.
this and the intro to Where The Street Have No Name...magic!

What I love most about this song is the ambiguity of the lyrics so that every listener can relate to it in some way and imagine what they want.
