Really at the end of the day it’s based on how you want to play and what you want to grind for. Bunkers done in Hurston tend to work every time EXCEPT for Security Depot 1 which is changed in 3.18. However, we as play testers need to ensure we report the bugs we experience and provide evidence. So if you’re finding bugs with bounties, report them and for any gameplay loop do the same.

This is what I really admire about SC. It's one thing making loads of money in one gameplay loop and that becomes the meta. What I've found is, if you don't enjoy the loop, you wont make a great deal of cash. Find a job you love, you'll never work a day in your life.

Tip for new players who want to do Bounties and grind money: Get enough aUEC to rent a Constellation Andromeda ad do Bounties with that ship. Its tanky as hell so you can learn the ropes without dying, and it has an almost infinite amount of missiles - so even if you are new and you suck, you will start printing money in no time. Any missile boat would work fine for bounties... just fly in , Missile your target from 3-4k range (seems to be sweet spot) ... The trick is, if you stay farther than 1.7k away from target, he will not fire flares. right now NPC only fire flares when your closer than 1.7k or 1700 meters. you stay outside that range and they wont fire flares. you fire between 3000-4000 meters and your missiles will always hit. Rent a connie, I prefer to fly a Talon Shrike (regular talon has size 4 lasers, the shrike has powerful missiles) . it doesn't have a ton of missiles but they are powerful size 3 missiles vs the connie is I believe only size 1 missiles.

I grinded for a week or two and got the ship I wanted and then suddenly I had nothing to do in the game which kind of sucks. There weren't any other ships that I wanted since I bypassed those so that I could buy one's cry ones with the bigger ship.

I just wanna say to each their own, since everybody likes different things, I for one, likes to do bunker missions than bounties, though I do bounties once in a while so I dont get bored, I just love bunker missions lol, ( I am a FPS guy, I like first person shooter) and this is how I make money too, combined that with mining ( usually quant mining with prospector when I need more credit). With bunkers what I like is that I could get very good loot not just the reward from completing the missions. I could get good / decent gears. I have like many spare armors in my station's inventory so I dont have to buy them from shops, if I died or lost my stuff.
The reputation system is the same whether you are doing bounty with ship vs ship or doing bunker missions. My rep in doing bunker missions is atm very high ( Level 5 lead security contractor that can give me like 90k aUEC credit, plus bonuses a pop everytime I do one)

Exactly how I play the game, and can confirm it becomes insanely profitable when you start to get good at minimizing downtime. Flying around in a Talon or Gladius for anything up to VHRT and you can usually get a Group VHRT that pays out 60k+ and then stack a 20% bonus on top of that from leveling up your bounty rep with a specific system (I personally do my bounties in Crusader) and you will almost be making 100k per mission which if you are doing quickly can be finished in average of 5-10 minutes per mission.
I personally have yet to find another gameplay loop I've actually been able to enjoy that makes money as quickly and easily as this.
As for ERT, you can do Retaliator or Eclipse to just torpedo them to death or, the ultimately faster and more profitable option is to 2-3 man a Redeemer. Even with just a 2 manned Redeemer you can kill Hammerheads almost laughably fast and almost effortlessly back to back chain group ERTs which are paying out well over 100k without even having to dock at a station until you run out of fuel as the Redeemer is a beast and probably won't even take any damage from a Hammerhead before you kill it.
With a 3 manned Redeemer I do think group ERTs may be one of the fastest and lowest effort-required ways to make money in game. You aren't even spending any additional money on torps like you would be with the Eclipse or Retaliator which definitely add up over time, so once you've afforded the Redeemer it ultimately pays itself off faster than a bomber, if you can crew it.

Another man with the bloodlust! Player bounties are the most fun for me in this game, but I have made a lot of bank on PVE bounties too. It's been up and down with bugs like lagging mission starts and stuff but when it's running good it's easy to make good money. I think Crusader is probably the best system to run because you don't have to deal with the atmo bounties. That can be not fun when it's an ERT. Next patch they are supposed to change up the ballistic damage so it basically ignores shields, which will be interesting. You still will want to run repeaters for PVE probably, but when you run into a PVP dude out there with ballistics and you have repeaters on it could be not fun. Will be interesting.

But I can make WAY more money within a hour without a high risk factor that you have in bounty hunting and the trips refueling and repairing. Close to 800,000 auec with roc mining. I’d like to hear what you think of salvage. Granted that the version on the ptu is potentially pending balance, but i find it’s good cash and it can be mixed in with bounty hunting or mining or piracy for more variety in your game loops. My experience as a long lime backer has also been that attempting to grind a game loop you don’t like will not yield a great bounty of credits. It tends to yield a funk in which i don’t play star citizen for a while. That’s why i think it’s best to remain flexible, remember that there’s a game loop to make a lot of different things profitable, and just do whatever sounds fun at the time. If you’re mining and a security npc gets on your nerves, it’s totally fine to blast him and take a trip to kareah: it’s a game, and if that’s how you want to have fun, go for it. As long as your fun isn’t directly generated from ruining other people’s fun. Then the correct course would be to go play star marine and contemplate your life.

I find the opposite... I find bounty hunting and bunkers boring. its the same steps on repeat. Quantum in , kill, Quantum out , quantum in, kill , Quantum out. (add land and take elevator for bunkers). In mining and now salvaging, I have to search for rocks, I have to break them down, I have to fly in a way where my alt or my partner can scan rocks. each rock is different and breaking them down is its own challange/ puzzle. You gotta also find the best way to get as much quantum as possible without sucking in junk because space on your ship is valuable. you gotta optimize your load out to filter junk or break down rocks easier . your loadout matters. also you have to avoid blowing up and losing your expensive load out. There is also a challenge in getting 100% quant in your ship (I've done it in prospector (32 scu/easy) and in Mole (96 scu/really hard). You have to find multiple quant rocks together is 1 area, break them all done and suck them all up in 1 shot. I have to balance getting as much quant as possible and getting the quantum back to the refining stations before time runs out and ship blows up. Also if i get attacked , i risk blowing up and if i fly too rough or land rough, i can blow up.
    1. I actually get to fly my ship all over , Quantuming in and out isn't flying. . .
    2. Every minning experience is different. Different rocks, different clusters, different quant levels... There are a ton of variables.
    3. Time management is very important.
I find mining with all the stuff you have to do allot more thrilling and exciting. VS fly in , shoot , fly out... its easy to provide variation in enemies but even that is limited in bounty hunting. I'm starting to do beacons which is more fun than standard bounties. You fight multiple Hammer heads , Connies, reclaimers, i think starfarer, and the occasional Idris. They pay 30-50k for moderate 100-200k for high risk and 350k for critical...Critical has idris. I usually just fly in with retaliator, torp the hammer heads and idris and have a friend kill the small ships (either fly their own ship or man my turret) . Those missions are really fun but i still think mining is more fun. Those missions get really fun with allot of players though. espically the critical. Flying in with 4-10 people to kill an idris is awesome. either fly multiple ships or man 1 hammer head or 1 retaliator.
In 3.18 there is also salvaging now which is fun because you get to stack boxes but i can see that get old fast. You can make good money with 2-3 man team. 1 stack boxes while the other 2 salvage (1 has to switch between flying and salvaging)

the best way is the criminal hamerhead bounties with a topedo bomber 45k per target and it literally takes as long as it takes for you to get there and the target to spawn

For maximum efficiency you want to use laser canons in pve not repeaters. Canons got much higher dps but their projectiles are much slower which doesnt really matter too much against npcs.

I only had the aroua starter ship, so i rented a cutty black and flew delivery missions, bought a cutty black and started surface mining, saved up for the mole and started quantanium mining, so i bought a dog fighter, maybe it was the eclipse.. I took a break for about ½ year, came back to the game and im down to my auroa again.. if i didnt loose all my ships over and over, i would be playing it more.. Just really cant do the grind again :(

I agree with you but... mining is good at the very beginning because you can make a lot of money without depending on missions whose amount is based on reputation, the same for bunkers, the first ones only bring very little , and the same for the dogfight...

I stopped doing bounties when they changed them all to be in-atmosphere rather than in asteroid clusters. I find it really hard to control my ship in a dogfight when I have to contend with drag and I always need to be mindful of where the ground is so I don't slam into it.
I wouldn't mind doing them if the in-atmo ones were only occasional, or if it was random where the bounty would spawn. But having to do that gameplay loop of entering the atmo and travelling to the target is tiresome. I'd much prefer to do bunkers. You can get bunker missions that give up to 90k in rewards at the highest tiers, plus you keep whatever loot you want (I got to the point where I only loot fresh mags off of the enemies I kill).

If you get in crusader industries' graces they will constantly spam you with 70K bunker mission.
Less than 10 minutes of gunfights and you get close to 80K for each one thanks to call to arms.
If you enjoy grunt work doing mercenary contract around crusader is imo the best way a newbie can make money currently, just don't shoot the friendly npcs, the cops don't like it when you do that.

I don't grind beyond a days mining, just to get a couple of million to last till my interest runs out. Just invest enough in the game and you never have to spend real money again, buy any ship in the sales, don't buy CCU's, there waste of effort
, and you never own the golden goose or its attributes, just the LTI token. So when i play, i actually play the game, with no emphasis on collecting useless loot, grinding for ships you'll never bother flying, or running daft cargo runs.

Went to edit my original comment.. somehow deleted it instead.. very confused but it's also 9am and not in 24+ lol. There is a bit of a mental trap that I see happen with a lot of mmos but other games as well.. the concept of "grind" as well as "There is nothing to do" once you've gotten that ship or shiny gun, or next outfit, w/e you were targeting at the time as your goal. Grind is very perception/subjective.. the games that handle it well blend this into having you repeat however many tasks within a core loop of play, poor handling of this is what we then call "Grind" as "Grind" can be sort of bundled as "Time spent = reward/progress given" when our sense of input/effort does not yield a certain degree/value of reward, that's when stuff feels "Grindy."
To make this shorter than it might otherwise be (I type fast and get into bit of a trance at times lmao)
As others have said as well, find the "game loops" or combination of such that you enjoy, try not to get too tied up on what next ship or upgrade, the $ and shinies will come just from playing the content you are actually interested in. And of course remember to take breaks from SC and play other stuff too, ye don't need to main line it lol
