This song uses Drop-D tuning, and is played in the key of D minor. Except the bridge, which uses sort of a G flamenco-like scale.

Tim Sult is maybe the most underrated guitarist in the whole scene.Great lesson, too !
So true!
Self titled. “Animal Farm” gets stuck in my head regularly to this day.
Elephant riders has to be my favorite. When I 1st heard green buckets I was floored
Blast Tyrant. Excellent from start to finish.
Blast Tyrant and Elephant Riders. The Soapmakers is THE jam.
Blast Tyrant is probably the one I’ve listened to the most. There are great songs on every record though!
As a long time Marylander and doom/stoner fan, I'm glad to see you dig Clutch! Just saw them a few weeks ago. My favorite albums would probably be self-titled and Robot Hive/Exodus. Killer lesson as always! 🤘
Hey Steve, I just saw an email from a few days ago saying to chat you up on telegram for a chance to enter a Christmas giveaway. I downloaded telegram but I couldn't find you on there
Self titled is where I started and will always be my favorite
Where I started as well.
Different albums for different moods... self titled for just chilling at home or to jam along to. Elephant Riders is an excellent highway album for long drives. Pure Rock Fury is good driving music too. But to throw a curveball I love Jam Room for being in the garage hanging out. They really don't have a bad album... some take a little more time to absorb than others, but they ALL have their moments. Best thing about Clutch is they identified and refined what made them unique early... which gave them the opportunity to grow and add to their sound without losing their core identity. Thanks for this vid
Always loved their self titled record and Pure Rock Fury
Same!
Either their Ep Pitchfork or Blast Tyrant. I love every era of the Mighty Clutch!
Elephant Riders for sure. Ship of Gold, 8x over, the Yeti. Such good riffs.
Same here, Elephant Riders with their self titled right there as a close second.
Beale Street, Blast, love em all🤘
Their EP Passive Restraints and Transnational Speedway League are my favorites. High Caliber Consecrator is my favorite song of theirs. I love all their stuff just wish they would've used that "hardcore" sound a little more. They were good at it.
I fully agree with you
1. Blast Tyrant
2. Clutch
3. Pure Rock Fury
All awesome
Yep!!
17years old my first Clutch show ,and as far as a favorite ... all .
Cruising climbing! Jupiter cyclops winks at me, yeah he knows who's driving ! Hit neutral in the tail of a comet !
For personal reasons and grooving with the universe's flow, Self titled clutch is a must number one. I may have bumped into once or twice, or shall I say mosh instead. Good jam brother...
Albums and songs: Elephant Riders-Dragonfly & Clutch-Spacegrass
When the riff in "Dragonfly" kicks in, it is in my opinion one of Clutch's heaviest moments!!! Quality.
Would love to see more lessons on clutch songs
Let me know what songs you'd like to see!
I'd imagine all of them would be too much to ask lol I would have to say the soap makers, ship of gold, the promoter (of earthbound causes), a shogun named Marcus, ghoul Wrangler there's Soo many good songs to pick from
@@trueevilturtle a ship of gold lesson would be awesome
@@DoesItDoom which Clutch songs you say? Can I use "yes" as an answer?
Crucial velocity, sucker for the witch, Nobel savage, would all be good lessons
Beale Street to Oblivion, it got me into them back in the day. Clutch is top tier man, excellent work
CLUTCH!!!!🤘😎🤘
Our first EP was in Standard + Drop-D. Because the tone of the Digitech Drop + Big Muff was already sounding low enough.
But then we went lower to D-Standard / Drop-C after the EP.
You can do some pretty dope & heavy shit & make it sound lower than it actually is, even in standard tuning
Heavy low octave is ballsy as, one of my fav things to use for the filth for sure.
The Digitech Drop is a pitch shifter, so even if you were writing in E Standard/Drop D that's not really what it would be tuned to. Not to say that great Doom/Sludge/Stoner isn't possible in higher tunings, but using the Drop kinda takes away from saying it was is in E Standard.
@@noesunyoutuber7680 Yeah we both own the drop... I think he's talking about just using the dry+low octave...? doesn't really "take away" from it being in whatever tuning... it's basically a faux bass player in a pedal essentially... who really cares though.
Self titled, elephant riders and jam room. The holy trinity
Agreed.
Steve, I graduated High School in 1991! I love your Les Paul, it’s crazy to think it’s already 30+ years old. *Have you checked out the new CAVE IN record? “Heavy Pendulum” it’s incredible as well, thank you for all you do!
Class of 91 too.
I love that you have a very gentle way of playing. Especially with your fretting hand. That's something I'm going to try to focus on myself after watching this video 👍
You must have read my mind! Incredible timing, I love this song and the album, CLUTCH never disappoints! Thank you Steve! A Les Paul in "Drop D" sounds like heaven... *I love all the CLUTCH records, my favorite song though is "50,000 Unstoppable Watts" !!
New album is great!
Amazing!! Love Clutch and "Elephant Riders" is up there with one of my favourites but I have to say "Blast Tyrant" is my go to. Cheers!!
Both great records for sure!
@@DoesItDoom You've got to cover "The Soapmakers" at some point!! Easily one of my favourites.
Love this! Good job my guy!
I had this tune cranking while sitting on Slaughter Beach a few weeks ago. Legendary.
Favorite Album? Might be Earth Rocker. But it is a lot easier to pick my top 10 Clutch albums.
Great tunning!!
Your lessons always keeps me playing thanks for everything. Cheers from Turkey
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
"Robot Hive/Exodus" is my fave. Really love Elephant Riders though!
Great lesson Steve!!! Love me some Clutch!!! Elephant Riders is probably one of my all time favorite songs, great band!!!🤘🤘🤘
Thanks, Chris!
Space grass
JESUS ON THE DASHBOARD
I'm not sure if this is the answer you were looking for but there was a 80's Rickenbacker with diamond shaped control knobs.
Electric worry or the regulator would also make for a great lesson in my opinion!
Killer riff..
It's SO hard to pick but probably Earthrocker but they are all my favorites!!!
every Clutch album is the best Clutch album.
Sick tones here. 😮
Thanks bro!!
Blast Tyrant was a pure masterpiece.
Was a big shift in the sound of the band.
@@DoesItDoom It sure was.
This is sick! Thanks man. Robot Hive/Exodus is the album that got me into Clutch, so I'd have to go with that as my favourite.
Transnational Speedway League is hands down the best Clutch album
The space album all day every day.
Sweet video! Blast Tyrant is by far my favorite Clutch album. I listen to Psychic Warfare and Pure Rock Fury quite a bit as well. I just really seem to love all the albums produced by Machine. Blast Tyrant sounds so huge and alive and coupled with the outstanding song/riff composition and track flow; it’s a stunning album. Impetus, Slow Hole to China are also my favs but revisit Transnational Speedway League quite often. 🤘🤘
I’ve only heard a few of their songs but I have never heard a bad song by Clutch.
Never heard of them. I'm new to all this kind of stuff.
Hell yeah! Thanks! Favorite album for me is psychic warfare or blast tyrant
I've been a huge fan of the self-titled album for years.
Classic!
Awesome content it’s great to finally find a UA-camr who knows about doom/stoner metal. Do you think you will ever do a guitar lesson on You Bury Your Head by Witchcraft
Great vid as always! Can you do a tutorial for playing Tyrant by Thou? One of my absolute faves
My favorite is prob Blast Tyrant but the Self Titled and Pure Rock Fury are both up there as well.
Earth Rocker - Book, saddle and go does it for me.
Thanks for your great lessons and share of wisdoms. You’ve helped me come along way since picking up a guitar and finding my way. Would love it if you ever had an opportunity to making a lesson covering a song by Tad called emotional Cockroach. Cheers ✌🏼
Clutch got me into music. By extension I'd not be into doom or even play guitar without them. As for favorites, Burning Beard is a contender. Pulaski Skyway is a really underrated cut too. Would love some lessons on those.
I wonder why Tim Sult doesn't have his own signature Orange Amp.
Clutch 🤘🤘🤘🤘Self-titled for me and ever other one is a tie for second.
RightOn Steve.
Psychic warfare !
I seen em live at Sounds of the Underground from many a year ago. Liked them but wasn't a fan until I bought From Baele Street to Oblivion, and it has been a constant since.
Hey man do you think you can do a tutorial on Acid Mammoth "Them!" I would love to learn how to play it!
Also Clutch is amazing 🔥
I love robot hive for a late album it's full of great tracks. Imo the band have more consistent and better with age. The new one is excellent.
Listened to that record for months on end when it came out. Still love it.
Awesome as always Steve! Can I ask do you own/ever play a shred guitar? Would love to see you blasting a Jackson flying V
Don’t own / never played.
See em tomorrow night in slc! These guys are amazing live. Hard to pick a favorite album, I’d have to say blast tyrant or slow hole
Both great records!
Will you see HELMET tomorrow night as well?
@@REZNAP yes sir
Blast tyrant and elephant riders! Thanks for the vid
Elephant Riders for me.
Blast Tyrant baby
+1 for elephant riders
COULD YOU DO ANY SONGS FROM ORCHID?Thanks and keep it up👹
Blast tyrant or pure rock fury
Clutch is def one of the greatest bands of all time hands down. Not a single bad album.
BOSS METAL ZONE
Great tune!
SOFA KING EPIC!!! 🔥🎸🤘💀🤘🎸🔥
Amazing tune!
BTW, do you have any recommendations for tremolo picking in terms of how to hold your arm, pick, angle of attack, etc?
I don’t consider myself a great tremolo picker, but I can say pick size and shape made a big difference for me. In this video I’m using a Hetfield White Fang 1.14 which I find works well for tremolo picking. I also like Jazz III, Jazz III XL, and Jazz III JP when it comes to tremolo picking. Other than that I would just say try to keep your hands relaxed and experiment with different pick angles to find what works best for you.
@@DoesItDoom Yeah, I've been using those thick flow picks from Dunlop, they seem to be the right choice. I'm starting to get better at relaxing since I'm a naturally cramped up player but I still haven't found the right angles and positions that allow for consistent picking, especially across multiple strings.
Robot hive/ exodus
Almost sound like Rush's song Working Man!
🤘👹👹🎸🎸👹👹🎸🎸👹👹🎸🎸👹👹🎸🎸👹👹🤘jak zwykle kapitalnie pod każdym względem super
Definitely Elephant riders
S/T ftw
I've never been a big Clutch fan , some of their music can be a little too out there for me. Same as Primus , it's hit or miss. If I had to pick a favorite it would probably be Psychic Warfare.✌️🤘
Clutch rocks 🤘🏻
Can we get a breakdown of a Baroness song for some more stoner rock content?
Maybe! Drop a specific request on the official request list at doesitdoom.com/requests
Robot Hive Exodus all day
Blast Tyrant. First I heard and it stuck.
Burning Beard video, though....damn....
Nosferatu Madre please
Can someone tell all the kids that you don't have to be in drop z with 8 strings to sound heavy.
Blast tyrant
Blast tyrant or pure rock fury
