It's not "basically" For Whom the bell tolls, that song and riff is a completely different harmony. And Yeah, Lamb of God - 11th Hour. Thanks for playing.
@@axeofcreation in your opinion. but it is basically for whom the bell tolls. slight variation only. when i first heard it i thought for sure he was just playing that riff...shocked me when he said what he said. but you do you.
@@metalriffs6276 I mean, it's really in your opinion because he wrote the riff and also has a channel dedicated to things like music theory, I would trust his distinction over yours, random youtube commenter.
@@5kr3aminMunk33 LOL so your saying there is no way in hell that he can write a riff that accidently or intentionally is the same as an existing, other band's riff??? are you serious?? wow...the internet strikes again.
I love that you go into enough theory to have an understanding of whats going on and why, but not so much that you turn playing into homework. subscribed!
Real cool video - short, focused, and explained well. Now I didn't learn anything because I've been playing for so long and these are all ideas I've already picked up, but I appreciate you putting it into words these concepts that just sit in my noodle for years.
This is the first video of yours that I’ve watched. Based on how you spoke and explained the video I thought this was gonna be simple and tame, then you pimp slapped me across the face with that first riff so now I’m gonna stick around.
Love your channel I have for years and I really appreciate the way you explained context because so many music teachers will hand you all the tools and just say go for it your videos always make me understand music better

Good Stuff, but I wish you guys demonstrating your strokes with extreme overdrive would also repeat each riff with a relatively clean example so that we can hear what the heck it sounds like sans over the top “enhancement”. Just a suggestion, but one that’s shared by many I play with.
Love your work as always man... I do have a random question though, what kind of strings do you use? I'm just curious because I've used Heavy Bottom slinkys for a long time and I think that is more of my "Adam Jones Fanboy" thinking and I want to experiment with different gauge strings/brands and whatnot
Love the Danny Carrey Tshirt
It's actually a Ballast Point shirt.
@@axeofcreation r/woosh
Hahaha heck yea dude ;)
He didn't get the octopus reference I guess
Well, DC has an octopus shirt available. I didn't realize this was a joke because of that. My bad y'all.
That tone is amazing
ML Sound Lab
@@axeofcreation 😱Noooooo! It's digital....?? Oh man...I was raving about that tone too! What will I tell my guitar player friends!? 😆
Tech has come a long way. Still doesn't beat the real thing but it gets the job done.
@@axeofcreation What settings on ML Soundlab did you use to create that sound?
Love the satin finish on this guitar. Way classier than the usual glossy.
Agreed! Never been a big fan of glossy finishes.

That first riff. So tight. So crunchy.
Its basically the "For whom the bell tolls" riff by Metallica!! LOL funny, He says "lamb of god, pantera" LOL ... wow.

I came for the riffs & stayed for those sweet ass inlays
Inlays are exactly what’s in my Carvin ! Considering it’s a Kiesel that kinda makes sense now lol beautiful though regardless
That guitar is fire man, not even talking about the octo-shirt
Honestly, it looks so smooth, the inlays are beautiful as well.
Really appreciate the content on AoC. As a Tool fanatic and a confirmed Drop D addict this channel is a personal fav

Glad you enjoyed it!
So freaking good! Best guitar videos i've seen on the tube. Thanks brother!
I'm a bass player but this was still super helpful. As well your tone is ferocious! Keep killing it.
The 3rd riff was absolutely sick tho. Just proved to me that harmonic minor is one of the best scales for metal
Damn dude that kiesels matte black burst looking finish is insaane🔥🔥
“Metallica’s Breadfan”
Budgie: am I a joke to you?
bahaha!
Then plays RHCPs version of the same riff, haha
That guitar is perfect
simple effective, i like it...no wonder the common theme is the common theme, hats off drop D lords, Thanks Greg
Yay! I understood one! Also, ‘Outshined’.
I'm so happy to see Kiesel stuff become more and more used nowadays. To me, they were always some of the nicest guitars out there.
This is the first video of yours that I’ve watched. Based on how you spoke and explained the video I thought this was gonna be simple and tame, then you pimp slapped me across the face with that first riff so now I’m gonna stick around.
Thanks. I also enjoy playing the 0356 type riffs, combined with that cliché 3 -> 5 on the A-string.
2nd riff is my favorite, so soundgarden like
Greg would love to see a rundown of 4 degrees the whole song. You are the best when it comes to Tool lessons.

I appreciate that!
Great informative video it’s helped me out and definitely a fun tuning to keep making up riffs !
I have a 7 string and the tuning I have been playing with on it is G, D, A, D, G, B, E. Perhaps you could talk about it a bit in a future video?
I like A D A D G B E
@@rileythompson5127 B, D, A, D, G, B, E is also fun. But doing a power chord on the low strings is a bit of a stretch. The upside is riffing is pretty fun.
You're really good. I've been watching and learning all week. Subbed.
Such a nasty, grungy tone, but still versatile.
What an amazing lesson! More drop tuning + music theory please! Subscribed!
Cool lesson nice guitar...I have a Carvin from 1996 and a Kiesel with EMG "HET" pickups...

Very nice Greg, good inspiration for my current skill level.
Great to hear!
I had the pleasure of meeting you at the Kiesel showroom. You have great content man! I dig it!!
great vid for the newer players to build off of . something easy fun to start showing different pathways . good stuff 👏
Thanks 👍
As someone who REALLY digs Lamb of God, that first riff completely ravaged my entire being.....i MUST play it
Yes!
i concur
Ruin!!!!
Great tone. Great riffs. Great teaching. Just found your channel. Subscribing.
that last one hits different mate
Sounds good, I love playing around with drop d
Style #4 of drop D riffing -- all of those classic Van Halen riffs from the Fair Warning album.
Amazing, great baseline
The second riff makes me think of Slither by Velvet Revolver
I immediately thought of Soundgarden on that second riff. Then you said Spoonman. No doubt!
10/10 lesson. Just perfect.
Awesome video, great ideas!
Almost 100k So close man keep it up!!
Good lesson! Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Surprised he doesn’t have more subs. You actually learn something.
Great breakdown
Thanks to this tutorial very great
Another amazing video, thank you!
Thanks again!
Always inspiring!! Thanks Greg🔥🔥🔥
I appreciate that!
great tutorial thanks so much for making
Very useful insight! Thanks! Like the logic applied...
Glad it was helpful!
Great video my dude
Gracias tron!!
Would you PLEASE do a vudeo on this tone?!
A Great help video, thank you!
Thanks for the video
I noticed a bit of Jerry Cantrell style there, would you touch on that in one of your up and coming clips?
Great video thanks
Great tone btw man!
Where do I buy that flannel?

Great Lesson/Tips! Thanks!!!
Ok I’m gonna follow you for when I get an electric
Curious, if one can pedal the open a string and play notes on the d string simultaneously?
1st riff reminds me of old school Command & Conquer.
"China must grow larger!"
Thanks a lot
Very helpful
Great tutorial Salute to you Sir,
Thank you kindly
Brilliant. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
THANKS BUD
Very usefull bro. Tnx
Thanks!
R you using any other EFX with your distortion and can you please tell me were your settings are set at
Cool stuff fella’ 😮
Sweet...thanks
Excellente. Does this works with bass too?
Time to get my Shinedown on
Thanks man.
first song sounds *EXTREMELY* Lamb of God, but the last two were both like, 100% Tool
Which size of strings are you using On les Paul for drop D? 10-46 is enough?
Melvins are the drop D goat
There is much more in drop D with big and bright major chords. U can play riffs say in key of E and then use the open D and A.
For sure!!!
What gauge strings are you using sir? Look light.
Thanks!
Greetings from Brazil!
Love your videos
Obrigado
Such a delicious tone
Freakin sweet riffage here!!!
You're forgetting the most used one.. the pedal style riff. 000D and then riff on the A string. Like Unholy confessions.
Anyone else think of A7X Pantera walk cover on that first riff?
Riff 1 - Lamb of God/RATM/Slipknot
Riff 2 - Disturbed/Godsmack/Soundgarden
Riff 3 - Slayer/Tool/Muse
great video! Thank you!
Nice video man! Can you tell us, what string gauge do you use in your Kiesel guitar for this tune?
Thank you for the guitar knowledge my brother
This is exactly what I was looking for
Awesome - as always
Thanks again!
Awesome video! For the first riff, it would be easier to note in 6/8, just so you wont have so many triplet brackets
Second riff reminds me of three days grace

I'm a slinky man myself as well. I tend to usually use 10s, if I know I'll be playing in strictly Drop D, I'll go a little thicker on the low string.
1:20 i love Roots Bloody Roots!
If something works, no matter how simple and clichè, its Good.
Great lessons I just found your channel. What pedal or amp do you get that sound. It’s awesome
