Guitar Villains 🤫: spoti.fi/3i8q2xg or apple.co/3n08vL3
first drop d riff i played was monster by skillet
Bat country by avenged sevenfold
killing in the name
"Damn Good" from DLR's Skyscraper album.
mine is catalyst by Dorje
First drop d riff: killing in the name - rage against the machine.

My first Drop D was Everlong. Just makes it way easier to play everything. Edit: Actually, now that I remember it better, my first Drop D was Keep Quiet and Drive by Deftones
My first was everlong for sure 🙏🙌
my first was everylong
deftones but the song "my own summer / shove it" also everlong is amazing and I play it almost every time I pick up my guitar
It's was either this or my own summer for me but I was pretty sure it was the latter
same here, everlong was my first
I can confirm my first drop d was Bat Country. I still love A7X today
Thanks to whoever suggested Everlong, by Foofighters! Playing Everlong brought back memories that literally had me balling and reconciling with my wife. Yep... there it is.
I played that song in gay minor
Heart-Shaped Box is when I discovered that other tuning existed.
This one is interesting because it is 1/2 step down and in Drop D. Few bands seems to use this tuning.
Tons of bands play in Drop c#

It's such a fun riff to be honest
I play lead on slither in my my band and it's pretty much the same riff over and over except when you get to the solo and well yeah its slash lol
I love the look on his face when he hears TOOL's time signature changes lol. Hell of a first riff indeed.
first songs in Drop D were definitely Unsung and Killing in the Name, but the first songs I wanted to learn were some Lamb of God songs. I knew I didn't have the skill when I first started playing. But eventually I learned Laid to Rest, Vigil, and Walk With Me in Hell.
Everlong - Foo Fighters
Psycho - Muse
Killin' In The Name - Rage Against The Machine
Psycho's good
Gonna make you gonna break you
New Born - Muse. Psycho was only a short jam back then.
I love muse Psycho
Me, someone who was limited by the bounds of Rocksmith and their DLC: Eyes of a Stranger for bass, I Don't Believe in Love for guitar by Queensryche.
Everlong and Killing in The Name were the first for me

I started jamming with a singer in college and drop-D was the only way he could play guitar and show me how to play the songs he wanted to sing. This lead to me learning some Soundgarden, AIC, and Metallica "Sad But True".
My first song (not riff) played in drop D tuning: Run Like Hell - Pink Floyd (The Wall - 1979). I learned this in the summer of 1980. I was 17 at the time and loved Pink Floyd, but this album just blew me away! Keeping that drop D going was....challenging to say the least considering my gear: '74 Strat (sunburst, of course) a chorus, distortion, and wah pedal, played through a massive 40 watt Fender Vibrolux Reverb. I still have all this stuff and it all still works! A LOT of yards were mowed, leaves raked, and groceries bagged to buy this stuff, lol!
Tyler in 2005: lets rock baby
Me in 2005: im a baby
I was born lol
2020.. I m your baby

first song i learned in drop d was heart shaped box and i’ll never forget the feeling of hearing the guitar and imaging everything else in the song playing along
I remember hearing Zakk Wylde in high school and playing No More Tears EVERY DAY and my buddies drop D riff that's still my favorite drop d riff 15yrs later. My same buddy met Zakk at Ozzfest and got a like 30 second picking technique tutorial! Cool guy!
Definitely Unholy Confessions (A7x) for me 😅
Along with Heart Shaped Box (Nirvana) for Drop Db/C#, Aerials (SOAD) for drop C, and Before I Forget (SlipKnot) for drop B 🤟
I was expecting Everlong but then I was like.. yeah that's fair.
I had the exact same reaction lol
I WAS ALSO EXPECTING EVERLONG 😂🤣

The 90's wouldn't have existed without Drop D.
Jacques D Preach. Those Seattle guys loved Drop D.
Laid To Rest - Lamb Of God
By far one of the best riffs I have learned in Drop D.
How can you forget this song???
My very first electric Drop-D was Fat Bottom Girls by Queen. Before that Dan Fogelberg had caught my ear with acoustic drop-D “Tullamore Dew” comes to mind immediately as one of my first
First drop d riff:

I remember learning Lateralus back in high school, even got a crybaby wah pedal just for the solo. while it's been 6 or so years since then and i'm getting back into guitar now, the rhythm still lives in my arms and hands.
Nobody else played Walk for like 23 hours a day when they discovered Drop D
@fcfnfjnfvnfv not the way I learned it
drop d means d standart lol
That's a full step down
I started playing Walk on drop D tho
If you ask dime he'd say exactly how to tune it then say fuck let me just show ya
"Slither" by Velvet revolver was the first drop D song I learned.
I see you also had Rocksmith
Sad but true was mine
@@whistlindixiesmallengine2085 Sad but true is in D Standard
mine was Vicarious
Heck yeah
I love all of this so much… brings me back to my own journey rocking out. I was NOT expecting the answer to your “first song” question, but it was 100% accurate 😅
First for me was "Unchained" - Van Halen. But I could never get enough of Ratt "Lay It Down" and so many others! Warren DeMartini... he had the chops, but always had a ton of blues at the same time!
Exactly the ones I was thinking. I must be in the wrong youtube channel if people didn't say those.
“Outshined” by Soundgarden.
Perfect introduction to Drop D in terms of melody and tempo. Even the bridge is easy for the beginning to intermediate level guitarist.
It wasn't my first, but one of my favorites to play early on was Spoonman. It's just difficult enough to make you feel like a bad ass when you're a new player, especially with it being in 7
Yep, that’s the one
Love this song so much! Was one of the first I learned in drop D.
My first was Walk by Pantera. Honestly surprised that song wasn't listed in this video. Probably because it's actually D Standard, even though many tabs and even games had it as a Drop D tuning.
Alas, that was my first drop D riff.
Thank you so much for introducing me to this beauty.
Just love love this whole guitar riff in this song!
That was my first one I played in drop d lol
It's fun how Drop D makes you forget about everything you learned in music theory :)
You should turn off music theory every once in a while, follow your ear instead of what is “correct”
Try b... on bass
@@the_dooof if your ears and "correct" don't match up, you need to work on your ears.....
@@since1876 i'd argue there is no "correct" in music. playing music isn't like solving a mathematical problem, its all about feels. I recommend watching MiW with victor wooten at NAMM, some really cool insights there
@@xgc666 agree
My first drop D song was Pins and Needles, by Billy Talent. I didn't really get into drop D for a long time, now I hardly ever change out of it. Mostly my Billy Talent bias though, my favourite band by far.
Your ability to pick up a song by ear amazes me. I've been playing off and on since elementary school. Everyday of highschool I played until my fingers would bleed. I graduated in 2009. But without tabs I'm lost
Unholy Confessions - Avenged Sevenfold
+1, finally sb mentioned that
yea im surprised that one isnt in the video, my first

Hehe same lol. One of the easiest a7x thats probably why
The first song I learned in drop D was “Walk” by Pantera
Lol- found the other drummer
Yeah as a Dallas Texas native that was the first song I ever played in drop D and still do whenever I tune down.
Original recording isnt drop d though. It's just standard down a step
Even funnier that the original isn't in a "drop" tuning. Lol
Yup
My first was Everlong but it was more so one of my dad’s favorite songs so it was on the top of my list, miss you pops, love your content as I’ve rewatched so many videos. Keep them coming.
i started playing guitar properly when i was 9 and learned slither when i was 10 when i got a guitar teacher, now me being 14 putting on this comment still with my guitar teacher learning no more tears, slither still remains my favourite drop d riff

Thanks for the video, awesome.
Eddie Van Halen was my idol. May he Rest In Peace . Spread the word everyone. Rock on 🤘
I think he was the greatest guitarist ever, Jimi is clearly a close second, but I gotta hand it to Eddie man. RIP
A true guitar legend
Heart shapes box
Mine too
Unchained was an amazing Drop D riff of his.
All apologies? Even Flow? Black Hole Sun? I’m surprised none of these showed up.
All apologies was definitely one of the 1st ones I learned in drop d
Black Hole Sun is in D Standard, not Drop D
I’ve had trouble with black hole sun’s tuning, but from what I’ve seen online, it’s between Eb and D, so it’s a quarter step down, kinda like how Pantera tune their songs.
All Apologies is in like Drop C# or something
boston yeah it’s like drop d but u start in Eb
my first drop d song was "Leave Me Out" by silverchair. nice and easy, simple solo, good song to start drop d with in my opinion.
Hey, what happened to Silverchair? I always thought they were a “better Bush.”
Killer axe, brother. Sounds amazing!
Disappointed he didn’t troll with ‘Your Body is a Wonderland’
That's a great song actually. People don't give JM enough credit for this acoustic stuff which I actually think is better than his electric 🤷
Unholy Confessions gang where y’all at?
Right here lol I hate avenged sevenfold now, but everytine I tuned my E guitars to drop d, id even practice with that for 5 min to warm up lol
Now I play in standard C and a ton of inferi. Sometimes go drop b
@@lordfartquadhahahelpme821 As soon as I learned drop D I literally tried to learn as many A7X songs as possible. Nowadays I favor drop C for a lot of metalcore and D standard because of bands like Death and Sylosis.

Well I remember seeing an older guy at school playing a riff and importantly, I couldn’t see his feet. He was getting this amazing tone that peaked and troughed way more than I could manage and I was so impressed with his fingering technique. Years later I discovered wah wah! Also The Fields of the nephilim had a track called Sumerland (album version)and being so pissed off that I couldn’t play this really fast chorus riff. Then I discovered delay pedals!
Sonne by rammstein was the first drop D riff I learned

1st Spoonman. 2nd several years later ”Blackest Eyes” by Porcupine Tree.
Yup. Mine was also spoonman.
Blackest Eyes is such a great song.
Porcupine tree extremely underrated
Black hole sun???
@@matthewjames9885 hell yeah. Fear of a Blank Planet is the first Porcupine Tree song I learned, then went on to Trains. They're so good
The Downfall Of Us All by A Day To Remember was my first drop D song - just learned everlong this week. So fun
I never really tried drop D, but in my journey in guitar playing I would always play a blues I came up with everything dropped a whole step. I think its called D standard but its such a cool tuning.

My first drop D riff was pain by three days Grace, was actually really tough at first because I learned it pretty early on
As a bassist naturally the first guitar riff I ever played drop D was Everlong, Though if we're counting anything that puts the low E to a low D then its oats in the water by ben howard, Beautiful fingerstyle song but thats in a wacky Ben tuning, DADAAD. No, not the capo version.
On bass however, the first riff I ever learned *_meant_* for drop D was the intro to Schism. Ironically I only actually played it in Drop D once and then realized I dont need to for the part I was after and could keep my precious E Standard lmao
Outshined - Soundgarden. One badass of a riff.

This was my first drop D riff, hell it was the first song I ever learned on guitar
Same.
I remember 1st hearing outshined on the sega genesis road rash game. I knew from that moment I would have to learn it.
Heck yeah
I first tuned down for Linkin Park's One Step Closer, which is in Drop C#. In fact, i only played drop tunings and had troubles playing in standard
Was your action to high? So it hurt to play or standard just sounds weird to you ?
Most people learn to play in standard tuning before the experiment with different tuning. Nothing wrong with learning a different way but it's not going to help your over all understanding of the instrument.
Hey same! I started playing guitar because I wanted to play Linkin Park songs, so I never tried standard tuning until I'd been playing for half a year. First song I ever learned in standard was Enter Sandman.
And yeah if your whole understanding of the instrument is framed around modern rock/metal and single finger bar chords, playing in standard seems way more difficult. 15 year old me wondering why the f the Master of Puppets riff is played in standard lol
Same , As soon as I bought my first guitar i tuned down to Drop C and was playing System Of A down songs
Isn't this song in eb drop Dd?
My first drop D song was Serenity by Godsmack, because the beginning is literally the sound of playing the (E) string against the D string, once you've tuned the lower one down
"Freedom" by Rage - what a blast to the balls that entire album was.
Wake up by RATM. Don't forget it. Great one for that tuning. Also might I add, one of the best movie endings. Neo coming out of that phone booth right as that song kicks into gear. 🎸🤘
I’ve always thought Chris Cornell was the best rock voice ever too. Unbelievable singing.
While I would say he is one of the best I wouldn't say he is the best he is behind Freddie Mercury, Paul Mccartney and Sting and some others.
@@abrahamlincoln6059 all very good singers you name there, but if you name McCartney and Sting, you and I have a different opinion on what a rock voice is... I really mean rock, not guitar music in general.

My first drop D song was The thing that should not be. Only to find out years later that the official book was wrong and it wasn't drop D at all, It was really standard D.

First drop d riff: Everlong by Foo Fighters and Lights and Sounds by Yellowcard
My cousin had this bar on the border of Cali and AZ out pretty much in the middle of nowhere off of this river...it was kind of close to Palm Springs...anyway, my two musician siblings, and my niece who could sing and could pull off Bulls On Parade lyrics (my oldest brother didn't have time to learn it on bass, so he sat out, and a friend of ours that also came to that debauchery knew Bulls on bass, so he played on that one) ...we threw together a bunch of songs, showed up with a bunch of gear, and did this thrown together show there, and I guess my second cousin put the word out, and that place was packed...it was a crazy night...we did so many different rock musical styles and songs that night...kicked it off with Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band/ With A Little Help From My Friends...did stuff all the way from Jimmy Buffet to Rage...when we did that Rage song, my brother Mike (sadly passed away now...miss him greatly every day) often said he never struggled playing Rage stuff, because it just came natural to him...he'd say the what Rage's drummer did, his approach, was very much like how he just naturally approached playing...so a big portion of the crowd was a younger crowd, and there was a band from Cali that opened the night that was really good...anyway, we played all these old school songs, so when we got to doing Bulls On Parade, we caught the place way off guard, hahaha! We really worked on that song, too, so that it had that energy...started that song off with just comping on a string patch prelude on the keyboard I had while wearing my guitar, then when I got to the last chord of playing this minor key improvise on keyboard strings, I held the last chord with the sustain pedal so I could be ready to "Pada, bump, PaDa, bump Pada!"...when we hit that hard, that place went nuts...just a bouncing in unison crowd...even though not a drop D song, still one of my favorite experiences ever playing music with family and friends, hahaha!
Hey Man Nice Shot. I learned the song and about drop D tuning at the same time.
