Harold Ramis already died before they filmed this movie. With permission of his family, they took scans of Harold when he was younger and slowly aged him until it looked good and CGI his face on a physical stand-in. It was a fantastic way to say goodbye.

My own grandfather died in 2018. I cried at the ending because Egon was the one Ghostbuster most like him. This felt like a sendoff to him as much as Egon to me. He was a teacher, a mathematician, he taught people in jail to try to reduce recidivism, he went to sick kid’s houses to teach them if they couldn’t get out of bed… he was a great man.

Brought our daughter to watch this in the theatre twice, she has loved Ghostbusters since she was 3, collects the action figures. Phoebe Spengler is her doppelganger; the hair, the glasses, the dry, deadpan sense of humor. This movie has become so special to us. She has added Phoebe's jokes into her repertoire.

All four kids are basic reflections of the original guys. Phoebe, with her nerdiness, and lack of social skills, is absolutely "Egon." Podcast, I believe, was supposed to be the reincarnated "Ray," and they kind of drove that home with Ray Stanz being an actual fan/subscriber of Podcast's shows. Phoebe's older brother was definitely "Peter Venkman redux," though definitely not as much of a sleezeball as the original Peter was. And the other girl (I forget her name at the moment) was definitely "Winston Reloaded." And appropriately, she, like Winston originally, had the fewest lines, but had way more common sense than any of them.

I'm glad you guys touched on the emotional aspect of Harold Ramis' ghost appearing at the end. I'd go a little bit beyond "emotional." I remember TEARS streaming down my face, for a good solid five minutes, as that entire ending scene played out. I especially fell to pieces when Egon's daughter, who had spent the entire movie resenting her old man, finally buried the hatchet, and gave his ghost a powerful hug... and then Egon's specter disappears into the sky. I probably embarrassed myself in the theater, with how hard I was crying at that point. And I don't cry easily at movies!

If I had to guess in theory, in the first movie when the ghostbusters destroyed the dimensional gate on top of the building in New York along with destroying Gozer's avatar, the energy blast from the explosion must have infected Egon mentally, and started to have premonitions and visions of Gozer returning to Earth somewhere between ghostbusters 2 and afterlife.

I feel so bad for the cast of that movie. It was nowhere near this good, but not for any of the reasons people complain about. Paul Feig could not do this franchise justice. All of "his best work" has been Melissa McCarthy's genius, not his: Bridesmaids, The Heat, and Spy were all good because of what SHE brought to the film. He was just along for the ride as a fairly pedestrian director, and got a lot of credit for her brilliance. Melissa and Kate McKinnon especially were so, so consistently good in his Ghostbusters, and yet the script gave them nothing to work with and the direction was a mess.
I was 100% ready to watch and enjoy an all-female Ghostbusters team, if it had been anything even remotely as good as this. It wasn't. Here again we have a female protagonist, and that's fine and great, and much needed. There will be girls at comic conventions for years in full Phoebe Spengler costumes: McKenna Grace is terrific in the role. I am 100% here for her role as the new lead Ghostbuster if the franchise goes on, and I think most people I know of all genders would agree.
When we hated the 2016 Ghostbusters, people painted the fan dislike as misogyny: we "weren't ready" to see female ghostbusters and we're obviously just a bunch of sexists who complain about anything "woke." That wasn't it at all. I was totally ready for female Ghostbusters, and still am. I wanted more strong female characters in this franchise, and I think they're needed and deserved. I just wanted to see it done RIGHT, and to recapture the spirit of the original films.
This movie hit all the right notes. They did the series justice. I hope people don't get the wrong ideas about what we are or aren't "ready for," just because we want to see it done well instead of terribly.

    • @LordXarti
      @LordXarti Рік тому +7

@@tamara_diamonds422 What almost EVERYBODY in the world FAILS to realize about the 2016 reboot is that it was NEVER meant to be cannon and was simply a parody of the original in the same vain as Weird Al Yankovic parodies songs. It featured what is known as "intelligent humor" which most people could not grasp.
For Example: The very members of the cast of ghostbusters were 4 males & 1 female operator in the original, however in the remake it was 4 female ghostbusters & 1 male operator. Also it takes it a lot further.
In the original the operator was not only female, but highly intelligent, but in the remake the male operator was dirt-sh*t stupid as a box of rocks.
Another difference was the body shape of the original ghostbusters was 3 slender to fit males with Ray being somewhat over weight, however in the remake it was cast with 3 plus sized females & 1 slender woman.
These are not the only examples of "intelligent humor" jokes found in the 2016 film as I could easily go on & on for quite a while about the numerous jokes it contained.
I also thought that the 2016 remake parody was an excellent movie & had an amazingly fun time spotting all the "intelligent humor" found within the film.

The kids with the gadgets remind me of Data in the Goonies. I LOVE this movie - they absolutely did the franchise justice and saw it in the theatre. Sooo many hilarious lines and goodness that Stay Puff Marshmallow scene in the store had me laughing so hard I couldn't breathe. The only disappointing part was not having Slimer but the munched instead.

Idk if you guys know this but the main reason this took so long to produce is because Bill had a bit of a fued with Harold after Groundhog Day. As a result Bill used his veto power to keep the 3rd film in Development hell. Two of those scripts had ideas that did get produced in 1 form or another. The first was the Ghostbusters training new people, and traveling to a hell dimension(was modified and used in the 09 game Harold co-wrote with Dan). The other idea was have a Ghostbuster die(in that early version it was gonna be Peter) who then shows up in spectral form to help an adult Oscar(who became a Ghostbuster) in the climax in the film. Knowing this kept my expectations for this film......rather high. Especially after the trailers started coming out. Armed with my mini Proton pack, decked out in my Ghostbusters t-shirt, I sat down for a showing at 3:30pm that afternoon. Holy F**K was I blown away. I sobbed so hard when we saw Egon. So, people have been saying that Afterlife erases GB2 from the timeline. This despite things like Ray's Occult and the Gigameter are in the film. For me the bigger reveal is about math and portraits. The Temple entrance where Egon set the Neutrona wands to guard the gateway had a series of years. One sets this film in 2021(aka the present year). (Mini rant but bear with me)Think back now to Gary's line about Psychokenetic events. He says 30 years. Ray says that was the reason they couldn't pay the rent/mortgage. If we do the math, that puts the last disturbance in 1991. The same year we dawn a pack in the acclaimed video game. Now I bring this up because Shandor looks like a portrait in the game. His coffin was at the Temple. He rose from the dead before getting ripped in half by Gozer. Could this mean the Shandor Thanksgiving event happened, but because it was rather quickly contained it didn't make occult records? Remember the credits dialogue from the game acknowledged the slowdown causing the rookie to be a franchise owner. (Ok rant over). I really feel they lucked out with casting McKenna Grace. Her mannerisms were SO like the late great Harold that I often forgot that the 2 were separated by decades and not actually related.

Yes. Land has value. For farmland, you'd want to cash rent, and never sell. My grandpa drilled that into our heads before he died. We rent his farmland out to 3 other local farmers. So if all the corn and barley and stuff was actually Egon's land, they could make some money renting that land to other farmers in the area.

That was the only time in the movie where they used MODERN CGI. For all the rest, like the energy coming out of the proton packs, and the ghost effects, that was all CGI that the ORIGINAL Ghostbusters utilized, so this movie could have done just as well having been made in 1984, as it did last December.
