Jen: "GOTG is a 6/10" Matt: "I find your lack of faith disturbing" Matt if Jen doesn't like GOTG 2: "You are unworthy of these realms, unworthy of your title! You are unworthy of the loved ones you betrayed today"
Sad that Jen didn’t like this one, but I’m not actually that surprised. It’s a massive tonal shift from the others, and while Marvel fans that had to wait months for a new release were ready for something new, Jen was clearly enjoying the action ride that is the others! Also it’s always been a note that the 2nd act of this movie kind of lags pacing wise (partly cause they include Thanos, wanting to develop his character a little more), but it’s kind of okay with most people because of the inclusion of Thanos (cool) and the consistently good script (funny). In my own personal watch order, Guardians 2 always comes straight after this as it really picks up (both chronologically and themes wise) right where the first one left off, and I’ll be interested to see if she likes that one more, or perhaps even less, especially after watching some others inbetween.
And we had trailers to get used to the idea of these characters: a raccoon and a tree. We knew they would be in it and were interested in how they would be used. If you don't know any of that, it's a big break from expectations based on the previous films
This one was an action ride, even more so than the others. It’s one of the issues with this movie. Along with characters being unlikable, the villains being uninteresting and the plot not really being personal. And overall predictability. All these things improved in the sequel, with the music as well.
I feel sooo bad for little Peter's family on Earth at the beginning. First of Peter's mom dies and then the kid is presumed to have been kidnapped :( What a horrific day for this family
Yeah but I'd sympathize more with Peter than the family. They also didn't think much of his mother as she was seen as crazy with her talk of having a child with a "spaceman"
@@Lexcelds TBF you would too and didn't she have a brain tumor? I'm pretty sure they just assumed she had become delusional from that. Besides, someone talking about spacemen getting them pregnant isn't likely to make the pain of their loss any less. If anything it would make seeing them go even harder.
Same here, I steadfastly refused to watch this when it came out... caught it one day on Starz or something ... might as well get this over with ... Wow! that was a fun ride and the soundtrack was off the charts.. I was flat out wrong
I am so happy to see that Jenn doesn't just play to the audience. She is her own person, with her own perspective. I personally don't always agree with her views on these movies, but I'm glad she holds to her opinions. I loved this movie. It was definitely NOT a cookie cutter MCU movie. It was outside of the box, and brought in some otherwise minor characters within the Marvel Universe. Now, they are some of my favorite characters within the MCU. I love the family unit and the banter. Thanks Holden for sharing these with us. It is a lot of fun to see someone watch a film, like a disliked film and dislike (or not love) a beloved film. We know that film is subjective, and she proves this. Glad that she's here to provide evidence to that premise. Again, thank you.

You both seemed exhausted throughout this video. I wonder if that played into her opinion/rating?!? Either way...she's enjoying the journey as a whole; which has been a joy to watch. Thanks for sharing this with us.
“That hurts my spirit”. Trouble in paradise. You know one thing that sucks is she doesn’t know what it’s like to wait a year or two with nothing and the n get something. I LOVED this movie. I thought it had heart, I cried with the ‘take my hand’ part. I saw this 3x in the theatre and I never do that but this heartened back to seeing the first Star Wars or Empire Strikes Back (I’m 53 and used to work for Marvel too. I actually was Cap’a voice on the Marvel website back in the 90s). GOTG was just awesome.
What a lot of people don’t know is that the GotG in the movies aren’t even the original team. The initial roster consisted of Vance Astro, Martinex T'Naga, Captain Charlie-27, and Yondu Udonta and their first appearance was in Jan 1969.
I’m sure you know this already, but most of them appeared in the end credit scene of GOTG2 there was a short clip with Stakar Ogord, Charlie-27, Mainframe, Aleta Ogord, Martinex, and Krugar. I doubt we will see anymore of them, but I would personally love to see that team in action!
Yeah. Although they're extremely different then their comic book counterparts, they did show up in GotG2. I'd love to see a space pirate movie starring them in the future
I don't find the Guardians movies funny either tbh. Drax and Rocket are the best parts but that's just because they're the most interesting and emotional characters. Thor Ragnorok was the only comedy focused MCU movie that worked for me.
*Video Spoiler* *Jen's MCU Reviews/Rankings:* ---------------------------------------------------------------- *Phase 1* - *Iron Man* = Good start to MCU. First 30 mins were 'ugh', good humour, love Stark. *(Not rated)* - *Hulk* = CGI sucked. Overall good, predictable, not top quality, wouldn't see again. Loved Stark's cameo. *6.5/10* - *Iron Man 2* = Not as good as 1st. Really good, Stark great, CGI amazing. Cheadle good, prefers Howard. Black Widow is meh. *7.5/10* - *Thor* = Really enjoyed it a lot, more than first thought. In love with Natalie Portman. Heimdall favourite character. Liked better than Iron Man? *(Not rated)* - *Captain America: TFA* = Cap didn't really do it for her. Liked Peggy, liked Cap's character in general. Red Skull entertaining. Felt flat. No character growth for Cap. *6.5/10* - *The Avengers* = Hawkeye and Black Widow growing on her. Loki is great villain, empathizes with him. Likes Cap more here. Heartbroken by Coulson. Hulk CGI better, Norton slightly better? Thor not enough spotlight. Should've solidified team earlier on. Juicy post credits. *8.5/10* ---------------------------------------------------------------- *Phase 2* - *Iron Man 3* = Possibly better than 1st and 2nd. Liked seeing his relationships with Pepper and Happy. Loved villains. Loved Stark without suit. Liked Pepper saving herself. Kid was hilarious. *8.5/10* - *Thor: The Dark World* = Better than first? Loki is amazing, like his good and bad 'flip flopping'. Like Jane going to Thor's world. Benicio del Toro is a fav. *8.5/10* - *Captain America: TWS* = Great twists. Loved Bucky. Liked Evans' performance. Visually really good. Liked Falcon. Fan of Black Widow now. *8.5/10* - *Guardians of the Galaxy* = It was ok. Not high up on list. Probably won't watch again. Music and makeup good. Groot is a fav. Want more Thanos. Predictable. Least fav so far. *6/10* *Order:* Avengers, Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Captain America 2, Thor, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Captain America, Hulk, Guardians of the Galaxy *My Opinion:* Great intro to some lesser know characters. I think in Civil War she will be more of a Cap fan. I've always preferred Iron Man/Tony Stark to Steve Rogers but I tend to agree with him more than Tony in Civil War.
This was one I loved only because I grew up as a Star Wars nerd and honestly, people will probably give me flack for this. But watching Guardians was like watching Star Wars for the first time to me. I just loved going to space in the MCU. And everything was so well written and fun. I saw it multiple times in the theaters too with friends. I can't wait to see the next reactions!
I was so excited when I got home and saw that you uploaded this video. Then I saw how long it was and my immediate reaction was "Oh, it's only 26 mins.. She didn't like it." You've been doing a lot of longer videos (which is awesome by the way!) with a lot of post reaction discussion, so when I saw that this one was significantly shorter, I knew that there was less chatting at the end.
You could tell they cut most of that opening because she probably made annoyed faces the whole time. I remember watching Starlord kick a gerbil and immediately going from "THESE TRAILERS ARE GREAT" to "I'm going to hate this" in one second.
an ok movie!!? i guess everyone has their own opinion, this movie blew me away. every time I saw this in the theater all audiences fell in love with this movie.
I think after Jen is up to date with all the MCU movies and she watches this one again, I think she will have a much bigger appreciation for this movie and like it a whole lot more! It's one of my favorites in the entire MCU!
The first time I saw this movie, I felt pretty much the same way she did. The second time I saw it, I appreciated it a lot more. Now I've lost count of how many times I've seen it and it's one of my favorite movies. Some movies take time to grow on you.
I can understand her not liking this one as much. After spending multiple movies with a set core of main characters, this one can feel kind of disconnected from the MCU at first. It could potentially make some people less invested in this particular story overall. I still enjoyed it though!
Can’t believe jen didn’t really care for this. It was such a refreshing change from the other MCU movies and you didn’t really know what you were getting when it first came out
I feel like Jen is someone that if she doesn't know it's supposed to be funny, she goes into these movies expecting it to be serious, then gets put off when it's not. Oh well, you can't like em all!
@@ThaCodFathers And then immediately followed with him getting yeeted our of the sky by aliens. I guess that's why it's one of my favorite movies. It can go from serious to comical in a split second, and then back again.
Honestly that was me the first time I watched Ragnarok. Didn't like it much the first time, but then I watched it again expecting it to be more action comedy than gritty serious and enjoyed it a LOT more.
Holden, calling the Guardians of the Galaxy “B-list” before their movie is a HUGE overstatement. They were D-list. Almost forgotten about by most modern comic readers.
I would atleast call them C-Listers, the particular group of the Guardians we see in the movies were part of a big cosmic event in Marvel. The original Guardians though were D-Listers; It's Yondu's old crew, you see each one of them during Yondu's funeral.
I love that for about 30 straight seconds of the video, you get through five minutes of footage, and her expression doesn’t change once 😂 get this woman to a poker table not a movie theater!

@@abdmin3268 I do love the Guardians movies, but they admittedly are probably the cheesiest of all the marvel movies... and I think Jen may be a bit lactose intolerant lol.
I'm actually pretty disappointed she didn't like this cause this was one of the things I was looking forward to its one of my favourites with the second one because they're both funny and very emotional
I really appreciate her outlook. I mean she is approaching these movies knowing nothing and that has to be considered. Im a comic nerd from the late 70s every comic movie was like candy to me. Great Reviews, keep it up you guys are awesome. 😁
Fun fact though. The right hand man of Yondu, named Kraglin, is the director's brother (Sean Gunn). He's also the physical stand in for Rocket (so other actors know where Rocket is before cgi) and is also the weird 'rat' character from The Suicide Squad.
Guardians of The Galaxy is not just my favorite MCU films but one of my all-time favorite movies ever. It's the best combination of everything I love about the film; humors, actions, stunning visuals, and above all, the great songs that suited each scene perfectly.
While I appreciate her honesty, her saying that this was one of her least favorite of the MCU hurts my Guardians of the Galaxy fanboy heart. Also I'm not surprised that her favorite character was Groot, he's like everybody favorite, except for me I love Rocket.
Just to add some context: Jen has been watching the MCU for a weeks, whereas many fans up to this point have been watching it for about 6 years (since the start of the MCU and GotG), so this movie came out right around the time people felt bored of how the tone felt similar throughout all the movies; a big reason why Thor 2 is the most disliked. You'll hear the phrase "the Marvel formula" around this time. So GotG was the breath of fresh air alot of fans wanted, with it's change of style. Also, noting that this movie had zero expectations and surprised practically everyone, which made it even more special. And the soundtrack, with the 70s throwback songs, was a MASSIVE hit, becoming one of the highest selling soundtracks that year (after Frozen) and the first soundtrack album consisting entirely of previously released songs to top the Billboard 200.
I love that Jen is unpredictable. If she had the same opinions as Matt or Holden this series wouldn't be fun. And obviously as they get through all the movies the characters have a chance to grow on her more. I also love how much she loves villains. The MCU really has some good ones.
Glad to hear an honest opinion on this film! My sister (who i mostly watch the mcu with) isn’t much of a fan of this one either. Her opinions are really on par with Jen’s, so based on that I think Jen will like the next Guardians film more. Excited to see the Age of Ultron reaction! Great video as always! :)
With this being one of my favorite MCU movies, one of my favorite comic book movies, and one of my favorite movies of all time this video hurt my soul, “the same level as hulk” like WHATT?? “the worst one so far” I’m honestly broken “6/10” this is an instant 10/10 for me, and my 2nd favorite MCU movie after Endgame
Just to be clear this isn’t meant to be hateful, I kinda got that tone after re-reading it, This has been my favorite YT channel for over a year now and I love everyone involved so much, I even made a bunch of accounts to help Holden get to 100k subs a few months ago 😅 so don’t take this the wrong way
>"is that a tree drinking water?" -.- >"my favorite character was definitely groot" I've never seen someone dislike this movie so much tbh. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course but it's an interesting and fresh take on it, that's why I watch these things afterall
This was me and my boyfriend. I have been a full Marvel and DC fan since I was like 3 years old and my brother used to read the comic books to me. I grew up watching superhero movies and animation series. I met my boyfriend at 19 and he wasn't really into superhero movies, he used to like serious art films and I was like YOU HAVE TO GET ON THE MCU WAGON before infinity war releases and rest was history, when he went in he went full in, read the comics, watched every MCU movie, the X men movies, everything. It was awesome to watch infinity war and End Game with him in the theater.
I think in future you should show her the trailers for each movie, because at the time of their releases, we saw the trailers and we knew what to expect going into the movie, whereas she has been going in completely blind and when the movie is more comedic and shes expecting serious action, it can change opinion You could even record her reacting to the trailers and put it as an "extra video" for Patreon supporters or channel members so you can see what she predicts will happen from the trailers (then you would go watch the movie immediately in real time)
Holden: "The Guardians were B list superheroes" Holden's being very generous. Iron Man, Captain America and Thor were B list superheroes before their movies. The Guardians were D list at best when this came out. When Iron Man was coming out the Marvel A list heroes were Spider-Man, Hulk and Wolverine
It depends on the context. Wolverine was much less of a big deal before the X-Men movies, and the Avengers comic book series was among Marvel's most popular at a certain point. Spider-Man's always been Marvel's flagship, but Captain America, Iron Man and Thor had successful titles as well and were generally well known, even to non-comic book fans. Many people would consider the Fantastic Four to be B-list today as well, but they also had a long, successful run in their day, and are still considered by Marvel to be their 'First Family'. If you're talking about how they were perceived in 2008, then yes, I'll agree that Spider-Man, Hulk and Wolverine were more well known to casual moviegoers. Even Blade would have been more well known to some thanks to his movies, but if you're saying Cap, Iron Man and Thor have always been B-listers in general then you're mistaken, especially about Captain America. His death after the Civil War storyline was even covered by national and international news.
@@tehdipstick Wolverine was like the most famous of the X-Men, even got his own series. Movies didn't bring Wolverine to the mainstream, rather it did it for the rest of the X-Men.

Matt: Loves Comedy, hates everything else Jen: Hates Comedy, loves everything else We just can't win with either of them LOL
I’m sensing a theme with her likes and dislikes of characters. She loves drama in stories and intrigue, she enjoys stories where it surprises her or twists she doesn’t expect. She likes heroes with edge and who have noticeable flaws because she loves to see them grow and change. Peter and his flaws aren’t so apparent, and the changes the characters aren’t as apparent and drastic as characters like Tony Stark. The pep talk with the Guardians is one and the way Drax changes are big but it’s not enough to wow her. She loves genocidal villains, Ronan is forgettable to many yet she loves his character LOL

I honestly didn't like it as much when I first saw it in theaters. But I eventually came to really like it.
And we had trailers to get used to the idea of these characters: a raccoon and a tree. We knew they would be in it and were interested in how they would be used. If you don't know any of that, it's a big break from expectations based on the previous films
it's literally better than avengers 1 imo and i prefer gotg 2
This one was an action ride, even more so than the others. It’s one of the issues with this movie. Along with characters being unlikable, the villains being uninteresting and the plot not really being personal. And overall predictability. All these things improved in the sequel, with the music as well.

Favorite moment is at 8:38, the slight smile from Holden when Rocket mentions how he needs the prosthetic leg.
What a lot of people don’t know is that the GotG in the movies aren’t even the original team. The initial roster consisted of Vance Astro, Martinex T'Naga, Captain Charlie-27, and Yondu Udonta and their first appearance was in Jan 1969.

The MCU inspired guardians didnt appear together untill 2008 in andy lannings run. I happen to have the first 3 issues signed.

*Jen's MCU Reviews/Rankings:*
----------------------------------------------------------------
*Phase 1*
- *Iron Man* = Good start to MCU. First 30 mins were 'ugh', good humour, love Stark. *(Not rated)*
- *Hulk* = CGI sucked. Overall good, predictable, not top quality, wouldn't see again. Loved Stark's cameo. *6.5/10*
- *Iron Man 2* = Not as good as 1st. Really good, Stark great, CGI amazing. Cheadle good, prefers Howard. Black Widow is meh. *7.5/10*
- *Thor* = Really enjoyed it a lot, more than first thought. In love with Natalie Portman. Heimdall favourite character. Liked better than Iron Man? *(Not rated)*
- *Captain America: TFA* = Cap didn't really do it for her. Liked Peggy, liked Cap's character in general. Red Skull entertaining. Felt flat. No character growth for Cap. *6.5/10*
- *The Avengers* = Hawkeye and Black Widow growing on her. Loki is great villain, empathizes with him. Likes Cap more here. Heartbroken by Coulson. Hulk CGI better, Norton slightly better? Thor not enough spotlight. Should've solidified team earlier on. Juicy post credits. *8.5/10*
----------------------------------------------------------------
*Phase 2*
- *Iron Man 3* = Possibly better than 1st and 2nd. Liked seeing his relationships with Pepper and Happy. Loved villains. Loved Stark without suit. Liked Pepper saving herself. Kid was hilarious. *8.5/10*
- *Thor: The Dark World* = Better than first? Loki is amazing, like his good and bad 'flip flopping'. Like Jane going to Thor's world. Benicio del Toro is a fav. *8.5/10*
- *Captain America: TWS* = Great twists. Loved Bucky. Liked Evans' performance. Visually really good. Liked Falcon. Fan of Black Widow now. *8.5/10*
- *Guardians of the Galaxy* = It was ok. Not high up on list. Probably won't watch again. Music and makeup good. Groot is a fav. Want more Thanos. Predictable. Least fav so far. *6/10*
*Order:*
Avengers, Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Captain America 2, Thor, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Captain America, Hulk, Guardians of the Galaxy

Great intro to some lesser know characters. Love the vibe and aesthetic. Something very different and new to the MCU.

Just to add some context:
Jen has been watching the MCU for a weeks, whereas many fans up to this point have been watching it for about 6 years (since the start of the MCU and GotG), so this movie came out right around the time people felt bored of how the tone felt similar throughout all the movies; a big reason why Thor 2 is the most disliked.
I’m surprised Holden didn’t tell Jen that Matt enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy more than Star Wars

I think in future you should show her the trailers for each movie, because at the time of their releases, we saw the trailers and we knew what to expect going into the movie, whereas she has been going in completely blind and when the movie is more comedic and shes expecting serious action, it can change opinion
You could even record her reacting to the trailers and put it as an "extra video" for Patreon supporters or channel members so you can see what she predicts will happen from the trailers (then you would go watch the movie immediately in real time)
Oh wow, today’s episode used the AAAA-aaaa noise that happens when Holden gets mad at Matt’s opinion
Holden: "The Guardians were B list superheroes"
Holden's being very generous.

I can’t tell you what a happy surprise it is to see this series of videos randomly pop up.
