I’m a Seiko nut, but really Omega is very underrated, they are in my opinion the best in consumer space, and always were. For me, Seiko, Omega and Rolex are the 3 top league, and everybody else after. That’s excluding high horology of course.

I own Seiko SKX 009, Marathon TSAR 41m and Omega SeaMaster blue dial. I have used my Omega SeaMaster for 10 years as a commercial diver for lobster (crawfish) in the Bahamas. I broke the stem for the helium escape valve, sent it back to Omega Switzerland. They fixed my watch, buffed it, cleaned and oiled the movement. No charge to me. Omega is a solid company and watch.

I really appreciate the strong advantage Seiko has in engendering and R&D, I hope they don’t go into the trap of “limited editoins”, because that’s an omega-similarity everyone would really want to avoid. Although omega seems to learn that lesson.
I had few omegas and few Seikos along the way, somehow I attached more to Seiko, omega had nothing wrong. It just how it rolled.
The only Seiko I own at the moment is a custom made skx which serves as my hiking watch.
Other watches are from different brands which I prefer currently. That’s why it’s the hobby and not another purchase.
    All the best

JLC is my favorite brand. I am totally taken with the Reverso. I also find their Master Control watches beautiful, elegant and every day useable. When I bought my Reverso in the JLC boutique, they treated me very well. My Reverso has a 7 year warranty. If I contrast that with the aggravation, shennanigans and runaround I have experienced while trying to buy a Rolex, it puts an even finer point on it. JLCs watches are attainable yet obviously not cheap by any measure. They do not hold great value, but that is interesting because I don't want to sell mine. So probably it is best to buy one if you plan to keep it. Yadda yadda yadda. Bottom line, their watches strike me as classic. Timeless even.
    Thanks,
    Michael

Yeah, looking to get an ultra thin moon or reverso preowned.
The rolex nonsense has introduced me to JLC and Blancpain.
      Preowned Omega rules.
For today's rolex money I would go Lange preowned.
Unless you get a retail rolex I struggle to see where it fits now.
Too expensive for midrange. The quality and movements aren't there to be high horology and can't compete with the high horology value section(GO).
Its a flippers market if you get it at retail, too well know to wear it in safety.

Casio, because of the square. A year ago, I’d have never thought that, but an all black combi was the gateway. Now I pretty much rock the stealth wealth black Ti, and have a hard time pulling it off my wrist. Perfect everyday watch, luxury feel, under the radar looks, extremely tough, and water resistant to 200 meters. You can’t go wrong. Plus, it includes every possible complication that you could ask for, and Bluetooth it to your phone never worried about set up again. I guess it’s my one watch reason for my favorite brand, but it makes an incredible case for it. Ti to expensive?, here’s the combi version. That to much, here’s the $99 regular version at full pop retail. Oh, cause I forgot to mention it about the Ti before, SOLAR. Ok, enough gushing from me.

You have just evolved as you have become richer. It's hard to take to a $500 seiko, when you've got rolex and omega in your collection. My grail was a planet ocean, but now I can afford one I am put off by their heft . I still think seiko make great watches, the sbdc051 and spb141 series are more upmarket than the older models so the price is justified. The new Willard is comparable to Swiss watches at that price too. Both rolex and omega has seriously been upping their prices in the last few years , so it's not just seikos. The difference is you can get a decent watch from seiko for around $300, you can't from omega. So most people starting in the journey will collect seikos to start with at least. I have purchased more expensive watches as I've gone on, but I don't really think an omega is vastly superior to a seiko considering the price. Both brands have their place though, and both are great brands !!!

It doesn’t matter whether you’re buying something on the more affordable side or the more expensive side you’re always going to get a great product for the money. I also appreciate how the company is vertically integrated similar to Rolex. Their history is legit and their impact on the watch industry cannot be denied. There is something to be said when a company’s entry level dive watch shares a watchbox with 5 and 6 figure timepieces.

You land some really good points. Personally I wear a seiko almost every single day because currently I work two jobs and sometimes don’t get off till around 10 or 11 o’clock at night making it very difficult for me to see my watch if I’m wearing my Citizen eco drive or my American aviator watch(yes the one that was advertised by the guy from pawn stars. It’s not a bad watch just not the best). I would wear my G-Shock more for this but it was damaged when I was trying to change the battery. A job I’m going for requires me to go through metal detectors almost every single day, and I don’t wanna magnetize my watch as it’s very expensive to repair that if I have to do it multiple times. So for me the omega makes more sense because it’s protected against magnitization and Omega has a way to afford new watches fairly easily with their payment system through Affirm. Considering I donate plasma regularly the omega Seamaster 300 realistically would only cost me about $400 to $500.

I have all the SARBs and a SARG and since those have been discontinued now I doubt I will let them go. But my hang up with Seiko now is all the Limited and Special Editions. This just jacks up prices and causes the FOMO impulse buys. I don't because I'm aware of it. So to answer the question I don't know what my favorite watch brand is currently. This year, however, I could not resist to the new SBDC101 and bought it the minute it was available. Beautiful, well-built watch, everything aligns perfectly. But again - why the higher price? And what's with the new 6R35 movements? They have worse results then the previous 6R15. And what is actually new in it? Has Seiko communicated it? No, or at least I haven't heard it. On the other hand, Seiko is getting more expensive, while other brands are offering more affordable alternatives with much better specs. Pheew, that's a tough question! I actually have a list of my favorite brands in my mind that I also recommend to other watch newbies. But picking THE most favorable watch brand is not easy... Three brands that always come to my mind are Seiko, Hamilton, Sinn. Three brands, three countries, different price points. But I think all of them have a very diverse offering and have great quality for what they cost. But my favorite watch brand in terms of admiration is of course A. Lange & Söhne. I don't think I have to explain why :P
But if I really would have to pick just ONE it would be... Omega! Yes, Omega as well. Imho they are innovative, have a great history, great and diverse offering and the quality for the price is just excellent! I think their positioning and brand recognition is just as good as the things described before.

I believe it's a natural evolution of a watch enthusiast. Seiko introduced me to the hobby, automatic movements in particular, and I've owned twenty of their divers. But they are all gone now from my collection, which has been reduced to just a Planet Ocean, a Seamaster Diver 300M, and a Speedmaster. Is Omega "better" than Seiko? I think it's simply an appreciation of what incremental quality comes while moving up the price ladder. My Seiko experience has led me to better understand my tastes as well as trained me to see how to see the differences in movement build, accuracy, and finishing. So no hard feelings for Seiko -- they still offer many interesting watches in the affordable category -- but they also can infuriate the owner with indifferent quality control and the rather ho-hum performance of the 4R and 6R movements. The latter is very hit-or-miss, in my experience.

In the meantime, I am happy with my accuracy Citizen eco drive, as it speaks to me : humble, practical, and trouble free .

Seiko is a great brand I own a seiko and love it but I think I’ll stop there. To many awesome brands I only have one of each brand in my collection. Every time I get a watch I want to experience a new brand so I don’t miss out. I’d buy a grand seiko to sit next to my seiko though !

For me, Damasko is honestly the best watch brand at the moment. Technically perfect at a fair price. Of course Damasko doesn't have the history of Seiko, Sinn Omega etc. but that doesn't count for me either. I wear watches here and now. Design, workmanship and innovation at a good price are important to me. I have 5 new Seikos and a Speedy but in the above mentioned points they lose to Damasko.

I've enjoyed many Rolex's including Sea Dweller's and Daytona's' over the last 3 decades. While I love their over engineering and quality they are no longer affordable.
I have a couple of Seiko turtles and although there's an obvious quality and execution difference I'm still enjoying them. Seiko offer something for all budgets and I like them for that. A company that can continue to create affordable products that can put a smile on one's face is a winner in my view
I get just a much pleasure looking at the matte black dial of my turtle 777 as my GMT master ll.

  • @Snek03

Seiko is my favorite brand, because they truly have a passion for watch making and produce the most complete range of watches if any brand from affordable Seiko 5’s to the Marine Master, Grand Seiko, Credor and Beyond. They are not obsessed with profit shares, status, and artificially controlling perception and value. Rolex and Omega would never make an entry level $1000 watch much less a $100 watch because lord forbid they water down their status and profits share. Long gone are the days when Omega made affordable Seamaster Professionals, let alone quartz options. They have gone the way of Rolex and it is going to get worse. Tudor is also running on the same koolaid as Rolex these days and the bs smoke blowing is getting repulsive. So what is the new Rolex/Omega, I say Oris. Seiko and Oris are my favorite bands.

I loved Seiko, but every one I owned had an issue - Samurai (poor alignment), Turtle (loose bezel), Solar Chrono (died long before it should). I've moved on to Longines and Sinn. I'll get to Omega one day.

    • @dougroddy6045
      @dougroddy6045 3 роки тому

@@adenval7 Maybe. You'd hope for 4k+ that Omega would figure that out, but there's always a chance of a lemon. Oddly enough, I've had 2 of the lower priced 5KX and have zero QC issues with them - perfect alignment, bezel, etc. Why can't Seiko meet that standard with the more pricey Samurai's and Turtles

    • @adenval7
      @adenval7 3 роки тому

@@dougroddy6045 honestly bezel alignment doesn't bother me much, but the models I've got, I've noticed they are gotten much better with aligning them.......maybe I'm just lucky, but then again, it doesn't even bother me those that don't align perfect. no one will ever notice anyway.. What matters to me is the awesome reliable movement, great value/style, and much more. Seiko is amazing brand regardless of the complains I hear, people still buy them, they are worth the $

I too used to be a Seikoholic and now love Omega. Their whole collection is spot on. I own a bond SMP300 (Brosnan) but love the Speedmaster, Planet Ocean, Aquaterra, and even their dressier pieces like the Constellation. That's not to mention all the great vintage stuff! Seiko is just well...Seiko. Love the older designs, lume, and affordability (Monster gen2, alpinist, sarb033, skx, etc) but have never had good luck with the movements. No way I'm paying their new prices to get QC issues and movements that are not accurate.

    Lol, false choice.
Omega vs Rolex, I would prefer Omega
Wider range of designs, very accessible preowned, best pound for pound in terms of quality, usability, movements and a positive brand rep.
Rolex has a few classic designs but the sub and its variants are too common, the brand is extremely well known but there is a negative connotation with regards to showing off wealth and now the way they treat their clients.
Definitely worth putting your name on a rolex list as you could always flip it for a profit, but if you keep it then beware of theft.

Give or up for Seiko for doing their part, they have a strict rule to only hire blind people to line their chapter rings & bezels. 😜 (I'm wearing one right now but I had to pop out the aluminum insert and replace it with a ceramic one to realign.)
