    Dittos on the kudos. Elegant. I might put a tiny drop of super glue on the final overhand knot, OR tie a two-turn uni knot around the main stinger line. It would still slide but be more secure.

    • @thegreatlakesfisherman

    Good info! I have wonderes how to do such a thing. Just a fact for you. In the Pacific Northwest, you have to follow very closely what kind of hook you're using. Have to make sure that you have to use a single hook or a treble. If you are going after salmon and steelhead, the hooks have to be barbeless.

  • @opinionatedviewer7730

    Great tips! Your design was very helpful to me on my journey. I went with #1 leader sleeves instead of the ball and dipped the loop in plasit-dip. Making it stationary on the hook.

    What size treble hook are you using for a 4inch lure?

  • @roonbooks3227
    @roonbooks3227 Рік тому +1

    I'd say ,the most important part of this is making damn sure you have the correct size bead so as to NOT pull the knot through the hole in the bead

    • @thegreatlakesfisherman
      @thegreatlakesfisherman  Рік тому

      Agreed. Conversely, if the hole is too large, you can go with a thicker line. Stiffer line tends to lay the hook on the bait better any how. Thanks for the comment!

    Nice Vid! What pound line test and bead size did you use?

    • @thegreatlakesfisherman
      @thegreatlakesfisherman  Рік тому +2

      Thanks! The line is Berkely Big Game 20 lb. test. It has a line diametere of .018" or .45mm. I don't have the specific dimensions of that bead, but if the hole diameter of the bead of your choice is between 1-1.25mm, you should be golden. Hope this helps!

    • @thegreatlakesfisherman
      @thegreatlakesfisherman  10 місяців тому +1

      I just started using some old beads that I’ve had for years. You’re best off experimenting with line size and bead size as many beads don’t indicate an inside diameter anyway. Just make sure that once you tie the knot, the bead won’t allow it back through.

  • @RPerry-zs3hl

    Do you put the treble hook through the tail of the bait ?

    • @thegreatlakesfisherman
      @thegreatlakesfisherman  Рік тому +1

      I do not. I used to, but it was affecting the way the bait moved and didn’t look natural. If you use a stiffer line like the 20lb test I mention in the video, the stinger hook will hang right in the strike zone. Just above the tail of your bait.

    What size of bead were ya using brother?

    • @thegreatlakesfisherman
      @thegreatlakesfisherman  2 місяці тому +1

      @@iamalemontree it really depends on your line. You need to find a bead where your line just fits through it twice. This way, your knot won’t slip through.

    Hi! Where did you get your bead and what is the size?

    • @thegreatlakesfisherman
      @thegreatlakesfisherman  11 місяців тому

      Unfortunately, many beads do t specify inner diameter. I just found some I had around the house, but the key is to correlate it to the line size. For Instance, if you’re using 20lb Big Game, the line diameter is .46 mm so the bead diameter should be ~.92 mm. You can always use a slightly larger line (like 30lb.) or use bulkier knot if you get any slippage. Once you find the right combination for the line size you’re using, you’re golden.

    • @thegreatlakesfisherman
      @thegreatlakesfisherman  Рік тому

      The bead diameter is critical. The diameter should just allow the line to pass through it twice. If it’s much bigger, the knot can get through.

    • @thegreatlakesfisherman

      You have to pair the right bead size with the line. Once I did that, I had no slippage problems.

  • @williamandjacklynnscott5317

    Going to do this. Fish are ripping bodies off the heads or leaving bite marks with no hook ups

    • @thegreatlakesfisherman
      @thegreatlakesfisherman  Рік тому +1

      Just make sure the bead diameter is just big enough to get two lines through but no bigger so the knot doesn’t slip through and you are golden. Good luck! It was a game changer for me.

    Cheap ? Tackle gear is expensive these days 🤐

    • @thegreatlakesfisherman
      @thegreatlakesfisherman  Рік тому +2

      I'll agree with that! But it is relatively cheap compared to buying them already made up. And once you get the jig set up for these and do a few, you can hammer them out pretty fast. And if you tip your hooks with live bait (especially minnows), I have found that you will save on them as well by simply putting the stinger on after the minnow, which prevents them from slipping off. The bead makes removing them a breeze.
