      I agree. there was once a time when content like that was important, things like that needed to be on the nose. I think we are passed all that night now and it just seems preachy instead of woke. it's time to take these more "woke" themes and make them good again. time to normalize these issues instead of drawing pandering attention to them.

    This new version is bullshit. Kim Cattrall really dodged a bullet and clearly knew better putting Samantha to rest.
    Especially Miranda's storyline...UGH. They were just dying to make her a lesbian because Cynthia is one in real life, thinking a traditional heterosexual relationship made her less of a feminist. But feminism is about CHOICES. And Miranda chose Steve, she proposed to him, their wedding was HER idea of a wedding, he always gave her the best he could. And then, she had to be a lesbian in the name of inclusivity.
    The whole thing was stupid. I have even more respect for Kim Cattrall after this.

    This show was so cringy I managed to stay only until that scene with Miranda's first time at school where showrunners made her into a racist (surprised that university professor is black woman). I'm sorry, what? Did they forget that in SATC she quite seriously dated a black doctor? No racism there but now, all of a sudden, she acts like this? That scene was enough for me to realise they switched storylines and character development for woke propaganda. They did Miranda dirty and I don't need to see what they did to others. Bless Kim for not being a part of this trash.

      The professor’s hair style took me by surprise too though. I’m a black woman who lives in the south where black women in professional settings are are still assimilating by wearing European hairstyles. I was happily wowed to see an attractive black woman with long braids act as the professor. New York is progressive that way which is cool. Not only does she wear braids, she wears Afrocentric clothing too.

  • @veronikavartanova4044
    @veronikavartanova4044 2 роки тому +336

    In the original, Miranda and Steve's story WAS about an issue that's probably more relevant now than ever - the one about passing on someone that you (both) could grow to be soulmates and genuine partners with, just because of unrealistic expectations, the fear or missing out on a better option and "settling down". How having a personality defined by desire to prove yourself and to be strong, not like every-boring-body, and in control of your life doesn't mean sharing that life with someone and being able to compromise and work through issues instead of bailing out at the slightest friction is absolutely out of question. That priorities and goals can change and evolve. That, while individuality matters and shouldn't be suppressed, and having a supporting partner and a family still will undeniably take something from you, but may ultimately bring other things into your life that's worth having.
    Steve and Miranda's arc was the most consistent, grounded, and developed in the show. It was about needing time, and friction, learning to forgive and confront, working through layers of doubts and BS, and gradual conscious dismantling of the "next shiny object"-style of living for over a decade to realize what's important and is worth having in your life-because it centers you.
    These season, though, it's just a complete regression for Miranda. It's tired, and weird, and worst of all - we've seen this before (only written smarter, tighter, and fresher than here). TPTB just slapped a new gender on there to, I guess, make the story more relevant for today's audiences. Now, they're either going to make it the embarrassing middle-age-crisis story for Miranda, or still worse, make Miranda the dumbed-dowm, clingy version of SitC Steve in her new relationship. Oof, talk boring and lazy.

    • @anonymousaccount8941
      @anonymousaccount8941 2 роки тому +37

      Absolutely, I didn't like the way they ended SATC - to me it showed women everywhere that your life is only complete when you find a man but not everyone's story needs to go that way. I always thought it would have been better if Carrie (for example) returned to New York alone because Big had messed her around so many times, Alexander had messed her around too so why would anyone in their right mind bother with either of them? - her love was New York and I thought that's how it should have ended. Miranda's story was so important because it showed growth and how this hard-nosed business woman could get in touch with the emotions, compassion and empathy she had shut herself away from (in order to protect herself from being vulnerable in business and love) so that she could show true love for a man who adored her - so much so that she bathed and cared for his mother and if she were her own. I really like that arc but now they've ruined it

Changing everything so drastically was just idiotic and doesn't fit the characters or the show as a whole. It seems just all over the place without an actual idea where it's going. Diversity isn't the issue. More diversity and representation is a good thing but certain characters and storylines shouldn't be added just to have some sort of shallow pseudo representation. When people try to write stories about things they clearly don't know anything about, it just ends to turn into a tone deaf mess like "And just like that". Yours is the best summary I've seen. The writers had been criticized for their mostly white cast, that they bent over backwards to the nth degree to tick off every conceivable box and put it into the reboot. Lesbian? Check. Non-binary? Check. Daughter who identifies as a boy? Check. It's like the writers tried too hard lest they offend this new world of Karens where nearly everything offends somebody. In so doing, the show and the characters are no longer recognizable, and only a shell of what it once was.

Gay people don’t bother me, (if that’s what you’re implying) I loved Stanny, (RIP Willie) and nothing in the original show bothered me at all. It’s the changing everything about what made the show what it was. It’s the forcing of gender identity issues… it felt like social justice propaganda. Super annoying and pushy. It lost its spunk, and AJLT is not a “feel good” show like SATC was. I started watching when I was 17, and have binged then show countless times. Im super disappointed in it all 😓

      I'm not a conservative not a liberal, I'm an independent thinker and was a fan of SATC, not only conservatives are bashing this show, any person who love movies, who is used to watch good series, understand that "Just Like That" was a voice of the woke movement, real art is not political, real art is spontaneous, political incorrect, edgy, free. This reboot is booooooring, and the worst thing, they put down women as sissy little girls without personality. To hell with this show.

    • @corneliabosold9474

      I'm actually kind of conservative. So I don't mind when a conservative criticizes this trainwreck of a show. However, when I looked online for reviews I found mostly conservatives (f.e. Lauren Chen, Matt Walsh etc.) reviewing it critically. They mostly were critiquing the woke plot points and used it as an example to criticise the media in general. I did not like that at all.
      'And Just Like That' is directly connected to the original 'Sex and the City' and that show was already not really for conservatives. I mean it was about 4 women with unconventional lifestyles and their sex life. Specifically Sam talks numerous times about how things would be different if she were a man. She and Miranda were the most feminist of the bunch.
      My point is, if you didn't like the original show, I think, you won't really understand the backlash for this show and why it's soon bad. Maybe then you shouldn't talk about it.
      The video of Baggage Claim was on point. But watch the video of The Take. I was very disappointed how they put a positive spin on it.

    As always, you hit the nail on the head. I liked how they had these women getting old but they didn't make them some sort of stereotypical grannies without life or conflict and I thought SJP's reaction when she realised Big was dying was well performed... that was all I liked. I HATED H-A-T-E-D the Miranda story line - how many times do they want her to screw Steve (her perfect counterbalance) over? the wonderful thing about that relationship was that Miranda was really forced to examine herself when she found someone who was gentle, honest and really loved her - how was Che worth ruining that? Also, remember when she tried to be a lesbian to fit in with all her bosses in one of the early SATC episodes and just couldn't... What happened to that person? And I agree with her being some giggling idiot, and for a person who doesn't know themselves, isn't funny and has made smoking weed a whole personality 🙄puh-lease! Miranda was such an a*sehole in that series! Whether its expressed or not, everyone makes judgements because we cannot survive without so doing - we make judgements about whether we are safe in the company of certain people, how much we should drink, whether we will get on with certain people, hell, even whether we should cross the road so why is it suddenly wrong to use judgement look out for your friends best interests? It's not like these people have just met, they're established friends, they know each other. I would hate it if my friends weren't straight with me - how would I ever know if they were judging me? 😂All this woke nonsense needs to die a death - you cannot escape offending somebody - that doesn't mean you should be purposefully cruel but its okay to disagree about things that aren't established facts. It's not okay to pretend that we all live in some fantasy world that can never exist - for one thing, it performs the far more dangerous task of erasing history. When did people become so fragile? I think it was somewhere between 2016 and 2020... any way, rant over.

SATC does not just have a huge fan base, but a long one. The original episodes are still clever and funny. Hence why we re-watch them over and over.
    I agree that this spinoff had no audience while trying to include all audiences. And toned down aspects of the characters we love, in order to avoid judgment and the many isms out there.

    Yay glad to see you’re back BaggageClaim! I saw you on CriticalDrinker too!
    I was a big SATC fan in my early 20s. You nailed it at its core- it’s not even the wokeness dialed up, its the lack of allowable conflict! Even a show like The Golden Girls as a parallel allowed the core unit to disagree and then find common ground. I feel like so many shows now, even stuff like superhero blockbusters in the MCU, don’t allow for these types of organic nuanced conflicts! Every things follows a script of being not only woke but agreeable. This kills any dramatic tension.
    I would argue that this IS made for Gen Z, bc it seems a lot of Gen Zers (and late millennials) grew up from childhood in this kind of Therapy Industrial complex. If the therapy/wellness system has labeled it as toxic, you can’t relate or like it because then YOU are toxic. Interpersonal conflict in social situations is scary. Wokeness dictates rules of behavior based on a purity culture. Your assessment at the end about the friendships makes me realize why my own interpersonal ones over the past 10 years have felt so superficial and topical. As the culture shifted, everything has to be devoid of conflict, ultra accepting, and almost “scripted” or you become a bigot. There’s no realness, rawness, flaws, mistakes, humanity, dynamism, growth. Thank you for this insight!
