The Nexus mouthipiece is nice, but for me is the Meyer all the way... it's dark and focused, being a perfect balance with the brightness of the Nexus saxophone. An amazing combination, in my opinion. Anyway, you sound great on both of them, Chad! Keep up with the alto content, it's really good
I have played a Meyer 5 medium chamber for 50 years and still like when you played both. I think you sound great on both though especially the Nexus works on the modern stuff. I have tried several tenor pieces and always go back to my Otto Link 7* hard rubber and metal pieces as I like the darker traditional sound. I have not tried the Nexus mouthpieces but you could play the phone book and I would love it. Cheers and congratulations on your successes with this Nexus line of saxes, mouthpieces, and reeds.
Hi Chad. I listened first of all without looking at the screen and picked the Meyer out every time. I really liked your playing on Alto even though most of my listening to your playing and coaching has been on Tenor. Personally I prefer the Meyer on everything you played. There are many pieces on the market for the more aggressive sound but few that will give you the magic you produced with the Meyer. Please play more Alto! ❤😊
As someone who prefers a darker, warmer sound my personal choice is the Meyer. The Nexus to me is a lot brighter it has more edge and cut to the sound.

Meyer sounded darker. The Nexus sounded brighter, more focused. No right/wrong choice, but I personally prefered the focused sound of the Nexus. It also sounded like you had an easier time navigating through the registers with the Nexus; you had a more confident sound with it. Cheers!
Both sound great! I use to play on one of the "newer" Meyer mouthpieces but that has since been replaced with the Vandoren V16 which I've been playing on for about 10 years now.
For me, the Meyer just sounds so more more pleasing, dark and round. A real jazz sound. The Edge is funky for sure. But a bit thin sounding. A real high baffle David Sanborn sound. I am sure a lot will find it great for that. Btw I also think that your pitch is better on the Meyer. Again, only my personally taste...
I feel that the nexus mouthpiece is versatil mouthpiece, have a little bit more brigtness and power, sounds great in jazz but also (I think-listen) in funk or rock, and the meyer is dark and power, more close than the old jazz, both of them like me
Love the Tone Edge! I've tried many alto MC's but so far my Otto Link HR #6 just has a tonal palet I can't quite find on any other! Until hearing the Nexus Edge! tto
I don’t care if Chad plays on stock MP made in Bangladesh with celery stick for reed, he’s gonna sound much better than most modern players I know. What a skillful master!
My vote goes to the Meyer. Definitely warmer, cleaner and more focused. The Nexus to me sounded “scattered” and rather edgy. I played alto on a Meyer 6M almost exclusively since the 70’s and it always served me well…a remarkably dependable mouthpiece for any genre. Used it in professional wind band and church, as well as big band. 👍
The Nexus Edge and the Meyer are quite different. There are some good options that land somewhere in between like a Morgan Jazz (medium chamber) or a Better Sax Burnin' (just 2 examples) - I think a lot of players want a piece that has a lot of versatility and not be pigeonholed into one type of sound. The alto has a more delicate sound than tenor so it's not as easy to achieve an ideal balance, that's why it's a good idea to go with a piece that allows you to move in one direction or the other, while retaining balance and core to the sound.
The Meyer sounded sweeter to me. The Nexus had a harder sound. Wonderful and very musical playing on your part. I'm not a sax player: classical flute 50 years.
The Nexus sounds good, it's just a brighter tone. The Meyer matches the warm and darker tone we are all used to hearing from the old classic recordings. No right or wrong choice here, just personal perference. My vote is the Meyer.
Thanks for doing this as I have been wondering lately about this. You sound great on both, but I prefer your sound on the Meyer. To me it sounds more focused and probably cuts though a sax section a little better. The Nexus, to me, sounds like it would be good for someone who wants their alto to sound more like a tenor. I have played a Meyer 6M (on a Mark VI) since I bought it in 72 or 73 and like the sound I get with it and this video doesn’t convince me to change.
Tbh I think the Meyer sounds better, maybe I just prefer the darker tone for jazz applications though. That Nexus piece is probably good for when you need to cut through other loud instruments though
Nexus gives u more tonal range , Meyer more easily in tune and classic. for ballad demor long tones ala Naima head would be great. You got a nice voice on alto wow.
Nexus was nice on Confirmation. Meyer much prettier and soulful on Misty ( I know this is completely subjective Chad LOL). On the modal Miles thing again the the Meyer is more soulful with that kind of intimate, understated, sophisticated soul thing like David" Fat Head " Newman. The Nexus is louder and maybe more fun to jam on in a more extroverted way. I would say if you want to get the girls to go home with you or you want to play "pretty for the people" the Meyer is the ticket. On the loud stuff then maybe the Nexus. But if you are on a mic...... Sound good on whatever you play Chad!
I love both, but except on the funk groove where the Nexus has the edge, I just find your language and phrasing sits sooooo well with the Meyer... I should transcribe some Chad on alto 😅
People just need to play the Edge mpc. I can assure you, it's incredible. Playing one on tenor, now it's a no brainer for me for the alto one as well.
Thanks, Oleksii! So glad you’re digging the piece :)

You sound amazing on the Meyer
The Meyer just has that perfect sweet sound.

I love the mouthpiece design I think I’m gonna buy one
Both sound great! I use to play on one of the "newer" Meyer mouthpieces but that has since been replaced with the Vandoren V16 which I've been playing on for about 10 years now.
You have this láser focused on the spot sax sound and beautiful expressive phrasing. No matter if you play tenor or alto.

Agreed. Both sound great but the Meyer was more to my taste. I noticed some pitch variance on the Nexus as well.
Whatever it is you’re playing, I’m buying it!!

As usual, your playing is beyond fantastic. That being said I would chose the Meyer. I play a Syos Chad LB 8* on my tenor....
I don’t care if Chad plays on stock MP made in Bangladesh with celery stick for reed, he’s gonna sound much better than most modern players I know. What a skillful master!

Thanks for this latest edition

Even if the Nexus sounds really good and seems easy to play, for me it’s Meyer all the way. Rounder and darker with the right sizzle to it.
The Meyer sounded sweeter to me. The Nexus had a harder sound. Wonderful and very musical playing on your part. I'm not a sax player: classical flute 50 years.
The nexus would be perfect for a wedding band, playing uptown funk and Stevie Wonder tunes.
It’s really a matter of personal preference, but I would sure like to try the Nexus!
I love Meyer for standards jazz . Nexus is good for modern Jazz
No right or wrong here is just a matter of taste and colors he doing amazing in both!
The Nexus sounds good, it's just a brighter tone. The Meyer matches the warm and darker tone we are all used to hearing from the old classic recordings. No right or wrong choice here, just personal perference. My vote is the Meyer.
What tip openings are you playing on for both mouthpieces? Sounds to me like they’re designed for two different purposes
Thanks for doing this as I have been wondering lately about this. You sound great on both, but I prefer your sound on the Meyer. Is that a vintage Meyer or a new Meyer? I'm looking for one of my own
Qual a abertura / tamanho da Meyer? 6M Medium ?
The Nexus has a fuller more responsive and smoother sound also keeping your core sound.
Meyer. No doubt about it.😊
Nexus has a more pop tone which I like
what tip opening was the meyer?
Standard Meyer 😎👌🎷
Meyer all the way. The sound was so much more refined.
I love Misty good
For my nesus 🙏👋
meyer. nexus sounds uncontrolled
Wow man talk about a glow up!
I preferred the Meyer but that’s just me.
Nexus gives u more tonal range , Meyer more easily in tune and classic. for ballad demor long tones ala Naima head would be great. You got a nice voice on alto wow.
The Meyer 100%, it just sounds so much more pleasant, warm and darker. The Nexus almost sounds obnoxious to me in comparison.
Meyer! Dark like a old jazz pub...
But if you are on a mic...... Sound good on whatever you play Chad!
Le sax nexus est beaucoup trop lumineux pour moi .
Les deux becs sont très bon ,et chacun a sa propre couleur et personnalité.
Je ne peux choisir !
I love both, but except on the funk groove where the Nexus has the edge, I just find your language and phrasing sits sooooo well with the Meyer... I should transcribe some Chad on alto 😅
Not sure if its a "Babbit" thing or not but i paid $500 for a NY Meyer and it was WAY OFF.....
Nexus Edge me gusta más , es más brillante el sonido
Nexus is too harsh, Mayer sounds better to me.
Should at least give it a clean! 😄 24 years is a long time to go cold turkey.
That's not a vintage meyer, so this is a bad comparison. You still make a great mouthpiece though
Meyer is the best mouthpiece of all time.GOAT
500 dollars😭
Standard Meyer never sounded so good.
Yes, it sounds almost like my vintage NY Meyer 😎🎷🤗🥰
Meyer .
Nexus is a little nerved.
Meyer better...
I tried not to think when I heard you play and my ear said I like Meyer better.
