Great sunset. Enjoyed the video. Getting ready for the slowdown up in Jacksonville. Got my pre-emergent the other day and waiting for the end of the month to throw down. New sticker looked good. Thanks.
I think one topic you should really cover in your videos is soil pH, I recently had a soil test done and my soil was 5.1 which is extremely acidic. I will be putting lime down to neutralize it. If you google ‘ effect of soil pH and nutrient availability’ you’ll get a neat chart that shows where your nutrients are made available at certain pH ranges. Most Macro nutrients aren’t fully available below 6.5, it changes the form of the nutrient and makes it inaccessible to the plant. Most nitrogen fertilizers are basically acidic salts that over time can lower your pH, (depending on your soil type of course)which is the main macro that is applied to turf, but it is important to correct your pH if you want really nice turf because eventually you won’t be maximizing your fertilizer because you’ll be putting it down and won’t see a huge pop of color like you would if you had neutral soil. You can have high fertility and low soil pH but it requires more fertilizer to compensate for the low pH.

Hi, I live in South Texas, and our grass looks AWFUL. We have so much weed and the other side of the house looks like most of it is gone. Its so discouraging. Please help me
you first have to decide which grass type you want to go with based on what's already there. Once you choose the primary then you can look at strategies for growing that while suppressing the others. In some cases, there is no way to do that and you have to rip it all up and resod.
what days does your company ship out? Is there a way to purchase 1- 2.5 gal microgreen?Looks like most 2 packs on the website, unless one purchases a single gallon.

Good stuff Al. 👍🏼 I used Flagship, Summer Stress and your Double Dark. They all did great but is there a way in the future to have the iron not stain the concrete like other granulars? I think I only noticed bad staining with Summer Stress.
yeah that is one of the drawbacks to iron products - really just have to get it swept off faster is the only cure - or make sure your edge guard on your spreader is working well, that will help reduce it hopefully.
@@TheLawnCareNut, is the kind of iron different in Summer Stress vs. Double Dark and Flagship? I really only noticed it with SS but maybe I just blew it off better with the others. 🤷🏻♂️

the St Augustine will fill in those areas in a couple weeks so no need for sod. In the future though, I gotta get on those weeds sooner so this doesn't happen.
Hey Allyn, just ordered my pre-emergent and N-Ext products this morning. I have a ton of Dallisgrass in my front yard. Any chance you could cover this terrible weed in a vid? Much Love from central TX.
St Augustine grass? If so this past April I used Glyphosate to completely kill the plant then after a few days dug it out and leveled with dirt. We had a lot of rain this spring (also in Central Texas) so it filled in very fast. Without knowing the grass type it will be hard to recommend chemicals and unfortunately most are only listed as suppression for Dallisgrass and can take many applications.
@@Jonny_B410 Mainly St. Aug with some Bermuda thrown in. I been in the house a year so this is my first full season with the lawn. But the front yard has a heavy infestation of Dallisgrass. Thanks for the reply.
@@JamesThompson-rg5np With St Augustine I believe the only thing that is listed as safe is Celsius (YM sells it) but again only as suppression. Good luck I gave up and killed it along with some good grass but it was more spots then infestation and knew it would fill back in. Also I had to reply to a fellow Mustang owner👍
I’m having the same issue as you Allyn with the dayflower. It’s every year and this year is no exception and really bad. Just as bad if not worse in some areas where it’s taken over the grass. I’ve tried both blindside and Celsius and they both work the same but, the dayflower comes back fast. Any recommendations on something else to use? I’d greatly appreciate it.
it comes back because of like I showed in the video, not all of it dies from the app. So the real cure it to get to it when its VERY young, not let it mature. For this season though, you just have to be diligent and keep spraying it according to what the label allows.
Did you replace your zoysia with st aug? Yeah Wild Bermuda & torpedo, sigh... I've read on the headway G label that 3lbs/1k or more will damage Bermuda. Problem is it doesn't stay suppressed/damaged for very long.
I'm in Zone 9 Ormond Beach area. Just north of I-4, so what fertilizer do you suggest for my St Augustine? I cut it at 4" so it is very hard to push through when fertilizing. What type of spreader do you recommend?
as long as you are still mowing at least once every 12-14 days, you can keep applying the bio-stimulants. Once you go dormant then stop. Keep watering though - here is a guide I just released with some more details too drive.google.com/file/d/1ulavP7ktYuykQPk2f8g6opoAUByyuNE1/view?usp=sharing

What can I do to help my St. Augustine some is green other is yellow, and some turned dark green and then all of a sudden stop growing and now is turning brown. Hello from Deep South Texas!
Allyne I’m a new home buyer how do start to take care of my Lawn in Texas from the start of the season till the winter end I’m new to this just wanna keep my grass green and fill some thin spot I have any help is welcomed I have st Augustine grass no weeds for now
Hi, I live in South Texas, and our grass looks AWFUL. We have so much weed and the other side of the house looks like most of it is gone. Its so discouraging. Please help me
What do you do for a mishmash of a lawn. I have no clue what lawn is growing in my front yard here in north Florida
you first have to decide which grass type you want to go with based on what's already there. Once you choose the primary then you can look at strategies for growing that while suppressing the others. In some cases, there is no way to do that and you have to rip it all up and resod.
I was really hoping there was a remedy for the Bermuda in st aug… have a patch that just keeps growing !
what days does your company ship out? Is there a way to purchase 1- 2.5 gal microgreen?Looks like most 2 packs on the website, unless one purchases a single gallon.
Hey Allayne , I love your weed control attack plan - daily driver + weekend warrior! Q. Image recommends not applying if temps are over 85degrees- being in Tampa temps are 90 everyday but drops below 85 towards end of day.. is it ok to apply at this time even I know the next day we’ll hit 90 again? Ty, Dave
yes exactly, apply in the evening when it's cooler outside.
Good stuff Al. 👍🏼
I used Flagship, Summer Stress and your Double Dark.
@@LawnDad Those are all the same so probably just the cleanup made the difference.
@@TheLawnCareNut, roger that buddy, thanks! 👌🏼
Thanks for heads up lawn dad
Seth from South Florida(Palm Beach County) with 4-5 month old St Augustine sod. A large portion of my yard is lightening up and going more yellow versus my neighbors and some portions of my lawn that have a nice deep green.. Any suggestions? Planning liquid aerate, micros, and sunniland 0-0-7 with dithyopyr this weekend
it just need a good dose of fert. since you are in south Florida I recommend Flagship 24-0-6. yardmastery.com/collections/fertilizers-granular/products/24-0-6-flagship-granular-lawn-fertilizer-with-iron
Checking to see if my calendar is correct. It says apply flagship today and to seed and starter fertilizer the next day? Thx!
something is off there for sure. you can skip the flagship
For the weed area will you plant new grass there? If yes when? (Especially if you put down pre-emergent)
the St Augustine will fill in those areas in a couple weeks so no need for sod. In the future though, I gotta get on those weeds sooner so this doesn't happen.
@@TheLawnCareNut what if I have Bermuda grass? When should I seed the weeded area? ( I put down pre-emergent like 2 weeks)
@@Jonny_B410 Thanks for the reply!!!!!!! Enjoy the MOW!
where do you get those nice concrete landscape borders? do you buy them in shapes, or have them pored in place?
I’m having the same issue as you Allyn with the dayflower. It’s every year and this year is no exception and really bad. Just as bad if not worse in some areas where it’s taken over the grass. I’ve tried both blindside and Celsius and they both work the same but, the dayflower comes back fast. Any recommendations on something else to use? I’d greatly appreciate it.
it comes back because of like I showed in the video, not all of it dies from the app. So the real cure it to get to it when its VERY young, not let it mature. For this season though, you just have to be diligent and keep spraying it according to what the label allows.
Curious -- at about 11:22 in the video, what type/brand of pruners are you using??
I am relatively new here.. LOL Would I be ok to use Milorganite instead?
Is it okay to leaf blow after core aerating and seeding? I’m worried it’ll rip it out of ground
yes you're fine, just don't dig the blower in
@@TheLawnCareNut ok I’ll wait a month before new grass is established
What type of st. Augustine grass is that, please let me know thanks
Did you replace your zoysia with st aug? Yeah Wild Bermuda & torpedo, sigh... I've read on the headway G label that 3lbs/1k or more will damage Bermuda. Problem is it doesn't stay suppressed/damaged for very long.
Brett got a boat !!!!
We actually have 45 boats! Freedom Boat Club. All the access, none of the hassles.
I'm in Zone 9 Ormond Beach area. Just north of I-4, so what fertilizer do you suggest for my St Augustine? I cut it at 4" so it is very hard to push through when fertilizing. What type of spreader do you recommend?
how big is the lot? I use a hand spreader for mine since i only have 2500 sqft.
@@jimmaul About 9,000 sq ft.
I have the app, but curious how often to apply Humic12 through fall/winter in Houston, Tx (st Aug, does go dormant)
as long as you are still mowing at least once every 12-14 days, you can keep applying the bio-stimulants. Once you go dormant then stop. Keep watering though - here is a guide I just released with some more details too drive.google.com/file/d/1ulavP7ktYuykQPk2f8g6opoAUByyuNE1/view?usp=sharing
Can u trim back the Thai plants this time of year???
Hi Allyn: if the lawn is not growing as normal due to the fall/temperatures why are you killing weeds? They will die with the winter anyways and St Augustine will not recover either since its growth is slowing down. (Same grass same issue btw) thanks
In SW FL we are year round - we do not have a winter so I just change up the weed control I use based on the time of year.
@@TheLawnCareNut I live in central FL and that has been my mental debate when it comes to kill the weeds before the "winter"
Hey Al. How do you like the provista compared to your front?
I like it alot - in fact, it's what I recommend when people ask me. The glyphosate tolerance and dark color are its best attributes
It breaks my spirit every time u pull one of those beautifup stolons up. 😭
Can I lay down some sod around this time? Or is it too late?
I'm in texas
@@candelariomora994 You are good. I live in Texas and its a great time to drop some Sod. We will probably be in the 70s - 80s for a couple more months or so
@@gijoe83 agreed, plenty of time left, thrower down!
Great job!
So can i sod Ceeneoede in Panhandle in November
I feel physical pain when LCN pulls a stolon out of that lawn.
yeah I do too.
Great video. Thank you, Allyn
thanks bro!
Great tips as always!
Thanks Ed!
That's got to be so frustrating having that wild bermuda infiltrate and intertwine
with the saint augustine grass. Lawn still looks good though.
Any chance of provista Bermuda?
ha ha, that would be very interesting!
Can I put down flagship and preemergent at the same time? I also have bahigrass, can I do the same as st Augustine? Thank you!
Same day is fine, just do 2 separate applications. With Bahia you can use Flagship, no problem there.
@@TheLawnCareNut I was just about to buy the pre emergent but I realize the app has two kind, should I go for the prodiamine .38% or the .172% dithiopyr for my st Augustine? Thank you!
Look at that random leaf hanging on to the underside of the roof at 11:18
😁
ha ha I know, it's gone now. 😂
It's time for "The Bride of Frankenlawn" just seed a northern Bermuda project 😀
*another
Just what I needed to see this weekend. I think I've put my grass into stress mode with an Image weed killer application tied with Bonus S as well as Scott's Disease Ex and Bayer's liquid fungicide...but the grass needed it. I "fired" my lawn company because they weren't doing their job. Now that we can get all this back on track I can start treating predominantly with your ferts.
thrower down and hope for the best! 🤘
The link for the winterize guide does not work?

St augustine aka 30mph grass. Looks great when you're driving past it at 30mph
that;s a great way to describe it 😂
I-10 corridor a few nights below 32 ?
Allyn my wife and I was just talking about the dead spot of grass in my Saint Aug. Thanks for making this video we feel better nOw!
God is So Awesome thanks for sharing Sun set faithful is our God!
it always hurts me a little inside when i see you rip grass out of the ground lol
Similar, but not the same, as the one we have in South America, Brazilian Grass (Grama Brasilera)
If I could order a few stolens of that provista I would 😂 ❤
1:52 😂😂😂😂😂😂
My centipede grass is starting to slow down. BUT I will keep mowing to keep the seeds from forming. Sadly, my mom's centipede(not as thick) has DOLLAR WEED! GROSS.
I've had good luck with Celsius on Dollar Weed. Use a Surfactant with it.
@@TheLawnCareNut WHEW~ not inexpensive. A local sod grower used something on the betony she had growing there last year. Do you suppose this is the product he used?
@@soccermom1245 I've seen sod farms using Blindside this time of year, golf courses too.
When I can use stress blend here in Kissimmee fl?
Now is good, or you can use Flagship. Whichever you prefer.
@@TheLawnCareNut do they work for Bahiagrass too?
Maybe it's just me, but I subscribed to your channel a year ago and watched all of your quality videos , but as of lately I am missing variety and quality content to be honest. Especially do I miss, as you wrote me back then , more content to zoysia gras as I have. Also, as being down in Ft. Lauderdale and winter hits us as good as not at all , we have to go by a little difference of methods considering time of application's. I will look forward a bit and hope you will find your ways back to better informing us,
I have alot to reveal about my zoysia - it's been a tough year! Hopefully I can get that out next week.
Does anyone actually have St Augustine outside of Florida? The place where it rains every day? Try the northeast where it rains all the time, or never, or is super hot or snows for 6 months.
Thre is a ton of St augustine planted in Texas and Southern California and for sure in florida.
Hel Allyn, just watched Brets’ weed eating video, tell him I demand my time back!!!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ok man you have to let me know... Are the rest of your videos going to be warm season grasses? I can't keep getting my heart broke weekly. I still watch all of your videos and will continue to. I just need to know what to expect.
I have a little of everything coming up really. Mostly warm season though since we are still mowing and growing.
@@TheLawnCareNut I hear you. I have a question for you. I completed a renovation before fall. Do you suggest a fungicide when doing this? The reason I ask is because I got hit hard after it came up and about half died.
Cool season grass :)
Stop fighting the Bermuda and embrace it already. Every property in your videos eventually leads to a video of you waging war against the Bermuda. Juat let it happen Alan, you will feel better. Still waiting on the Zoysia update video.
Never give up hope, SOMEONE will invent something to spray that evil Bermuda and not harm the St Augustine
I plugged my yard with St Augustine and the Bermuda came back to life and now i have a 60/40 mix Augustine to Bermuda.. makes me sick everytime I look at it...especially noticeable when dew is on the grass....please help invent that spray!!! Lol
Do your neighbors hate you?
Actually we get along great 👍
@@TheLawnCareNut yeah they are like he's alright n all. But he needs to stop dominating us😂😂
The nut!
Not sure if this is true, a grass blade has a 45 day life span.
I don't know but that is interesting if it is. 😁
Last Aussie 😁
😂😂
Time to kill it off and get that Pro vista st Augustine
I know wrong video to post this on but don’t wanna post on an old video. I’ve got a bag of the yard mastery 12-12-12 and realize I don’t have a way to measure out 4lbs of it. Would I be okay assuming that 1 cup of it is about 1/2 pound? And so 8 cups for 4pounds?
What do you do when you buy Sunniland WNF and you pour it in your spreader and the fertilizer is wet...
