dude... kick ass video seriously blown away by the quality! thanks!
Cheers!
Hey! It’s the sims dude!
Had it for about 5 months, still holding up great (I’m pretty hard on it too, playing games (Microsoft flight sim, gta, fortnite, cities skylines) and photo/video editing). One thing is I would suggest expanding the ram to 16 gigs and getting an external/internal hard drive (SSD) because you will run out of space fast and the extra ram allows me to multitask much better. Sorry for not being super technical but yeah that’s what I’ve observed.
Ps: be careful with the screen, it has a lot of flex and my friend actually broke his screen. Computer def cheaps out mainly on the build quality, tho it’s not super bad but yeah definitely be mindful
Nice video really well made haven't watched one of your videos in a while but goodjob👍

I love how you put 2019 2018 in every way it was easy to know not like other's. I hey confused in other video cuz they don't have that much info ❤yours is nice
I have the Nitro AN515-54 model with the i5-9300H and GeForce 1650, it does run a tad hot (for my tastes) but I have never had it go above 85c while gaming after doing some maintenance to it. First I noticed an improvement in boot times when I swapped the slot the m.2 drive was in to the empty slot, and upgraded the ram from 8GB to 16GB. I also removed all of the factory applied thermal paste and used some high quality Gelid GC-Extreme, this dropped temps about 2-3c. I ran a handy little free app called Windows10Debloater to remove some of the Windows 10 and Acer installed bloatware. Right now the laptop is idling between 35 to 40c CPU fan is at 1910 and GPU fan is at 1886 and barely audible this is using the Balance power plan and auto fan control. All in all it's a good little laptop for light to medium gaming at 1080p, the one reviewed in the video can do more thanks to the faster CPU and GPU. You can't really go wrong with this laptop it will work fine in all but the latest game titles running max settings, you will have to turn down settings to get playable frame rates, but with the smaller screen it's not as noticeable.
Is it possible you could do a video comparing a ryzen to a intel using rts games? Some good ones that can support tens of thousands of units would be cossacks 3 and rusted warfare rts. A good comparison in performance would be the ryzen 2700x vs i7 7700k but any video you make would be interesting to see.
It's hard, I've never had two laptops with Ryzen/Intel CPUs that have the same graphics to do a fair comparison. Oh you're talking about desktop stuff rather than laptop, I have a few comparisons already, but not really sure I own any RTS games.
Great video, Jarrod. I'm personally using the Ryzen 5 2018 model, & compared to the Ryzen 5 2019 model, I am not at all bothered by the performance differences but I do find the slimmer bezels and overall slimmer+lighter body a welcome change specially for those who bring this on the go. Would have preferred they kept the same faux carbon fiber texture on the lid though, but that's just me.
1 question: are the charging bricks the same size & weight for both models?
Yeah not sure of the CPU differences but I think both have the same 560x anyway. The power bricks were the same size/weight/power, I could use them on either machine.
@@JarrodsTech thanks for taking the time to reply, man. Thought the brick was smaller too on the 2019.
Another thing if you don't mind: any notable difference between 2018's Dolby Audio vs 2019's Waves Maxx?

Hmmm to me it's very rarely worth upgrading tech gadgets after only a year-I probably would try to make a laptop last me at least 3 years.
But you make the new one seem sooo much better 👀
Yeah personally I try to keep mine for closer to 3-5 years 🤔
Jarrod'sTech I replace my gaming laptop every 2 to 3 years cause gaming hardware gets outdated quick
My laptop is already 7 years. But im sad with my 650m
@@extr3me225 if you go for something like the 1060 last year (which was already a year old), you'd actually still be good for another 2 years or so.
I personally went for an RX560x Nitro 5 last month and honestly, medium settings 1080p, is still plenty for me. Some newer games like world War Z runs at 60 FPS on high, shadow of the tomb raider, could get mid 30s on medium..
All other games I play, it has gotten over 60 at medium. Which meets my needs.
i bought a 15x last year, planning on it to last 5 years. hoping for 7. thankfully RTX was the disappointment i expected, as was intel 9th gen. wouldn't mind if they keep that up another couple years
Thanks for the review I booked my Nitro 🔥✊🏻
No problem, nice!
2021 review for the 2018 model.
Best bang for your buck.
Bought 2 of the 2018 models for $729 each wo/tax on Amazon for my teenage daughters and they were pleasantly surprised that they were able to Minecraft w/shaders at 60 FPS when you tweak the settings on the game. With any laptop, you get what you pay for. If you're looking to play games at 200 FPS with Ultra Res, this laptop is not for you. But for default settings, I will recommend even the 2018 model. Great review on both machines. Like and Sub'd
i just cant get over a red keyboard.
other than that i defo would get the 2019 release
Fair enough!
It's actually not as bad as you'd think. It's definitely red, but not so much that it messes with your focus when gaming.
i was like you too, but then i realized that it was the best bang for the buck, so i got them anyway. And it really doesn't look so bad in real life.

Gl63 😍
if you're interested in gl63 8sd/9sd, i got one. It's good, build quality is decent, keyboard is good, screen color reproduction is incredibly good for a windows laptop, i'm using a ICC profile though. With dual channel RAM, undervolt on cpu and high speed fans the perfomance is pretty good for a laptop of it's price.

Dear Jarrod, explain to me a simple thing: why is devs(all laptops devs) not include important(for me) option: exclude the 2.5 slot for installing a version larger battery capacity?..
I would pay extra for that, no question
I don't know, some do, like the Dell G5/G7, otherwise I can't tell you why more don't offer it as an option.

🤩🤩
Hi, can you compare ACER Nitro5 and MSI gf63 2019? Great video by the way.
Maybe, depends if MSI ever send a GF63, I'm waiting on 5+ models from them.
I have an i5 9300h + 1650 + a 144hz display, I tried every undervolting method yet it seemed to still hit 90C, (without uv it reaches 96). I have a riser stand which lets it breathe freely, it made me use it conservatively but I found an ingenious solution to prolong my cpu life. When I plan to play for a long time, I disable the turbo boost function through throttlestop, it like makes the cpu temps not reach 70C at all, but some fps gets snatched, so I also have another trick where I lessen the turbo multiplier (instead of boosting to 3.5-4GHz, I limited my cpu to only boost 3.1-3.2GHz) it doesn't make a difference at all, plus a moderate undervolt is thrown in to sort of help.
I always watch your videos lol
Edit: another helping option is though it's tempting to crank most settings to max, I tried to balance out certain game details which do not have a huge gameplay impact.
Personally I'd take the higher FPS and just let it run at 90c, but that's me, maybe I should test it more in future.
Adrn Ncso The thermal paste application is definitely bad if that’s the case. I would look up how to replace the paste with a better compound like TG Kryonaut (meaning potentially disassembling the laptop a good amount if the cooling assembly isn’t immediately accessible) if you feel confident in replacing it.
Just did this with my Alienware 17 R5 with the i9 8950HK and GTX 1070, and it went from thermal throttling at 3.9 GHz to just barely reaching thermal limits at 4.5 GHz under heavy load with max fans with a .167 mV undervolt. It is a bit nerve-racking at first, but following a good guide is all I needed and all you’ll need, and it was well worth it. I’m thinking I’ll probably drop the CPU down to 4.3 GHz just to keep it at a good temperature but we’ll see.
zgoaty92 I got it repasted at Acer's main service center on my country, I watched own or disown's livestream with msi afterburner running and it seems like we have same temps (reaching 92c) on stock cpu settings and max fans
Adrn Ncso I will tell you right now, the paste they used probably wasn’t the best quality, but unfortunately the service reps there are required to use whatever Acer allows them to use and nothing else, so they probably used the same paste as what was used from the factory, which will do fine at base frequencies like what you were using by disabling turbo boost, but throttle at max turbo frequencies.
Do what makes you most comfortable for your use case though. If you’re good with the lower frequencies, then you don’t need to do anything; but if you want to get it to run at max CPU clocks, you will most likely need to repaste it yourself with a better quality paste (again like Kryonaut). Also, getting an iFixit driver set will help immensely if you do plan to repaste.
zgoaty92 yeah I was think the same, I saving the warranty since it already broke down before, probably will repaste soon
I have the 2019 version I got mine on my birthday
Same, and then 2020 version came out of nowhere
Did the 2019 overheat fast with playing Dota 2?
I didn't measure thermals with that game so cannot say.
yes, my fps drops to just 10 on wars, but then again i tried other games and it's the same thing. Haven't tried cleaning the fans though
thermal throttling 😩

A few doubts though which resists me from buying this gadget 2019 version. I am buying for college. Programming is the main purpose and rare gaming.
1) Does the fan sound gets so annoying. Because I might need to use it in libraries.
2) By not playing heavy games or do any graphic intensive tasks like video editing , how much time does the battery lasts and how much time is needed to power it up?
3) was it durable . will it long lasts at-least for minimum of 5 years.
4) is there any issues after using for a certain period of time and how is the service and support ?
Thanks in Advance
Thanks! Fan noise might be in this video, if I didn't include it check my full review. Battery was only tested in the scenarios mentioned, UA-cam and gaming, didn't test anything else sorry. Any laptop should last 5 years as long as you treat it well. Never had any dealings with Acer support so can't comment there.

The Nitro 5 741E is good since the laptop comes with 1TB HDD whereas the new models only include SSD, but you can buy an HDD and add it in the new models. The great thing I like about the 2019 models of the Nitro 5 is the thinner bezel.

Man, I hope for those who own the 2018 model that they can still update them to Windows 11 instead of that the intel i7 8th gen is already too old for that. The 2018 model is also the last of it’s kind to have a wide edge screen border where I do feel nostalgic for because the older laptop designs.
whats a good pc thats an upgrade from the acer nitro 5 ive been wanting to switch from laptop to pc but i cant seem to figure out which pc out there is a bit better than the nitro 5
what do u think about Nitro 5 AN515-54-73SS (actually on CPU TEMP) ?? and what kinda cool pad do u suggest for this model ?
Change the thermal paste, undervolt using throttlestop, and turn on coolboost inside nitrosense to solve overheating and thermal throttling issues.
Yeah there are improvements that can be made, and while I showed some, the goal here was to compare the two at stock as most people buying them would use.
2018 model had better looking back panel.
Is there any major heating issue?
Also should consider this over Asus TUF?
I bought a 2018 model with i7 and gtx 1060 and I love it. For me this model have better design and you can upgrade hard drive and ram without lost the warranty and this is cool.
Nice, good to hear!
Hi Jarrod, hopefully you reply.
Is the ps63 any good in comparison to other msi laptops ? If so is the gtx1050 good enough compared to gtx1650.
I'm honestly not sure, I haven't used it before so I don't know anything about it. I also haven't been able to directly compare the 1050 with 1650 yet so that's difficult to say, sorry.
The Nitro is good, but I’m still kinda disappointed that Acer hasn’t decided to have a 17.3” option for the Nitro. Great review and comparison of both, but the upgrade of the 2019 model isn’t something most people will upgrade to if they already own the 2018 model. I would simply upgrade to the 2019 just for the monitor screen brightness since it’s a noticeable improvement over the 2018 model
Thanks, yeah hard to upgrade but if buying today the 2019 is so much nicer.
@@JarrodsTech If I didn't own the 2018 Nitro 5 model, I would definitely get the 2019 model if the Nitro was still a laptop I was aiming for.

Haven’t ordered one yet, but I might very soon and I’m pretty hyped.
Have you gotten your one yet? If so, how is it?
Very nice comparison. Maybe, can you make similar with Dell XPS?
Thanks, XPS is hard for me to get, I still haven't been able to borrow any XPS 15 laptops yet.
Hey Jarrod, would you prefer a Lenovo L340 with i5 9th gen instead of the Asus TUF FX505DT?
I can't decide because the TUF laptop have a 120hz display and you can do dual channel in it.
It's hard to say, single channel memory with the L340 would be a downside, not sure how that would compare with the AMD CPU in dual channel. Without testing both configs I could only guess.
What is the srgb coverage for the newer model? Is the display suitable for doing photo editing?
Covered at 2:30
Hi, Jarrod can i ask for your opinion? Should i get the lenovo legion y540 with i7, gtx 1650 and 16 gb ram or acer nitro 5 with i7, gtx 1660 ti and 8 gb ram for the same price?
The Nitro 5 will outperform it by quite a lot, the 1660 Ti is around 50% faster than the 1650, it's a big difference. I've compared those here if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/QhRj0F3b-rk/v-deo.html
You can always upgrade the RAM later, but you can never upgrade the graphics as it's soldered to the motherboard.
Is it true that i should buy cooling pad when i use this? I heard some heating issues about this laptop should i buy it?
It can help, I show more results with a cooling pad in the full review linked in the description. Definitely not necessary.
