I got mine when the company was at its infancy and was still know as Whipping Post. And on the plus side, my original version featured 100% vegetable tanned leather, had more rivets, and was in a two tone brown leather. What an amazing messenger bag.
I love it not having a visible handle. I only use the handle to grab it on the back couch of the car or maybe from a chair in a cafe. I don't use it to continually carry it like a brief case. It's a messenger bag after all. It not being fully veg tanned leather is a disappointment, but I understand the choice. Hardware is indeed great. Love the swivel hinges. I would like to see at least one pocket with a zipper to trust my valuables to. Also don't love the closing belt style. I don't think it will last, nor do I think it's that practical when putting back your wallet after buying a coffee. Overall, a bag close to my ideal.
Another fine review Nick! Thanks for sharing your observations on the WP Standard vintage messenger bag. Overall, I think it’s a nice bag, however; it might be a tad bit too minimalist for my tastes. The lack of space and compartments within the bag would limit how and when I could use the bag. Also, not having a handle would probably be a dealbreaker for me, as I’m used to bags with handles. Other than that, it’s attractive and i do like the look of the tan leather. Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Always a fun time watching one of your reviews...Ed
Great review! It's a very minimalist bag, would only be able to use it to carry a few folders and stuff to and from work. Would you consider doing a review on some marlondo bags? 👀
One of the notable issues you've talked about was the capacity but, it is only slightly smaller that F.C. 15 by Cravar which you didn't mention anything about the capacity for it. Is there anything that specifically makes this bag feel smaller than the other? I love the way the Cravar bag looks but I don't want something too small.
Great review! I really like the look of that bag. Wish it would hold a little bit more but then it may compromise the look? It’s a hard balance. Let us know how it ages.
For a new Yorker its just a bit too impractical. Huge gaps on the sides. We get a lot of snow and rain. Overall, it just doesnt feel safe. I wouldn't have peace of mind if I have a very busy day when I'm really running around. Yeah that's small af. It will be full from just my laptop, chargers, scarf, gloves and a sweater. I dont think id be able to fit a few books in there.
I think you're right, I don't know if I'd put it in 'everyday carry' territory. It's more if you've got a few bits and bobs to carry with your computer!
yeah this one didn't last. for the record i think their briefcase is incredible value though: ua-cam.com/video/yccqdsLOb70/v-deo.htmlsi=ziZJh10l4WPrk7zz&t=206
So what you're saying is that this bag will get me a date, help me hold her hand, and allow me to go to her place to, uh, watch movies. I'll take two please.
As someone who loves leather briefcases and messenger bags, this is one of the lesser appealing product I’ve seen yet reviewed. Of course, I must admit that I’m not a fan of minimalist design on utilitarian product unless it’s down well. The fact that it can’t hold very much is a big downside because I use my bags for work and generally carry a lot of materials including a laptop, peripherals, documents, books, and writing implements. Personally, I think the design makes the bag look like a sack made of leather. The price point is another con, for $400 this is far too much for such a bare bone design. Regardless, thanks for the great review!
Haha.. I got a Large Buffalo Jackson's Messenger bag last year and it's huge... My wife was teasing me because it was too big... To me bags are like RAM memory. You always need more space 😎😂😂
Actually a handle should be a priority to be able to also use it as a briefcase. There are times when you look more professional holding it instead of wearing a large purse.
It’s definitely a less sophisticated look. Not a bad looking casual bag though. Others make a full grain Horween leather version with handle and steel support under handle so no sag.
I'm a simple man. Nick post a video, I watch the video. Quality review as always.
Trey, you just made my morning. Thanks a lot man!

Oof I'd love to see what it looks like now Francis!
I just picked this up on eBay (under the old Whipping Post brand) in excellent condition for AUD $160. Thanks for the review as it helped convince me.
Thank you. Handle makes it easy to place on top of luggage for easy carry for travel.
I would love to see a review of that backpack with the 2 pockets on the front.
That is elegant bag . Lovely colour .
always love WP Standar's bag...their rolltop backpack nice too....nice review...
Is a bleu de chauffe eclair review on the horizon?

You're definitely an optimist! Packing for overnight on a date! 👍🏽must be awkward when she asks what's in the bag there Stud! Hahah lol!😉
A great honest thorough review 👌

Was your date wearing those Trumans of hers though? Got to get a review of those in man! My lady is loving hers in Squirrel Rambler.
Great review! It's a very minimalist bag, would only be able to use it to carry a few folders and stuff to and from work.
Would you consider doing a review on some marlondo bags? 👀
Love this bag. I'll try to buy one. The cons? -well its a minimalist bag.
It's a nice bag at a good price. It resembles the Satchel and Page a lot.
It does! Satchel & Page's leather is better. But it's more expensive!
@@StridewiseAgree and should I mention it again that I own their briefcase 😉.
Two different leagues. Satchel is a step up all around.

I totally agree! It's a beauty. Cleaner lines than bulkier bags, less carry space - it's all about what you want

You ever going to review Smiths Leather Balm?
Yeah I think I should! I just need to beat up some boots...
Great Review. IF I wasn't WFH would definitely look into it. What are you doing about your keys?
What's wrong with my keys
@@Stridewise You have alot. Just get an organizer that's all
So I take it the date went well?
This is no longer available on the website.

How those 877s treatin you? Also hope that date went well my guy.
The 877s only just arrived yesterday! Then I took them out skeet shooting, and took an hour long walk in them last night - no blisters!
So what you're saying is that this bag will get me a date, help me hold her hand, and allow me to go to her place to, uh, watch movies.

hahahah I had that girl on the brain when I filmed this, I should not have talked about her that much

Have to agree. I own one. Look at Go Forth Goods if you want better quality in same bag,
Or save and buy a Coronado Leather bag.

Haha it's a hard balance to strike Alex!

Hey that's a great point

"It's not a purse... it's not a purse... it's not a purse..." -- thing looks like a literal upsized version of one of my wife's purses.
These "date" analogies tho, I can't relate lol
I'd say Cravar bag is more superior than this.
It is, yes haha
Whipping post? That was a terrible name for a company? Why would you name your company that?
Thats a lady bag
Haha to each his own
I absolutely hate how WPs leather ages. I think it looks more “wore out” and not aged
