I love how she completely breaks character at the end and is just Laura again. Like she's so serious during the singing that she basically makes herself cry, then as soon as it's over, she is just her again. Laura is one of the most priceless gems of the VA industry ever.
She goes from scary badass to adorable sweetie in an instant.
Honestly I almost tear up every time I hear this song, it’s so powerful, even if you didn’t know the lore, the imagery and vocals just exude emotion

I'm Horde for life, and even I got chills from hearing this song, especially that ominous "...of ME.". Jaina is easily one of the best characters in Warcraft lore. Even when she's driven mad and out for blood, it's damn near impossible to dislike her. Yeah, that's partially because I know she was only out for blood because of acts committed by an asshat Warchief I wanted dead anyway, but still mostly because I love that character.

Not surprised she was in character. From what I've seen in campaign 2 of critical role, (never bothered to try and get caught up with campaign 1) she does some pretty amazing things when she's in character. If I were in charge of a production with her in it, I would just have the writers and her develop the character, and let her improvise all her scenes.

Even after all this time, I never noticed how INCREDIBLE she was acting while she wasn’t singing. The way Laura flinched and looked away as she heard Janina’s father get killed. The look of pain and regret. SUCH talent!
I wish Laura would put out an album. Even if it was just covers, her voice is so beautiful.

At the end of the song, I feel Laura Bailey cries as she's Jaina herself.
It's certainly not impossible. Some actors really get into character for their roles, and the longer they've played that role, the more that character can become a part of them. That's why some ad libing feels so natural.
Well shes been jaina since 2002....soooooo shes been jaina for 17 years. Shes only 37 that's almost half her life.
Watch Critical Role Campaign 2, she absolutely has a great imagination and puts herself into her character more than anyone i've witnessed, I know it is just some friends playing D&D but it is honestly some of the best acting/improv you will ever watch

This gives me a fanfic idea where Marion sings this to her growing up, and at some point she begins calling herself “The Daughter of the Sea”, shortening it to “The Daughter”, since the daughter of The Ruby of the Sea and The Gentleman... In this, she knows that the Gentleman is her father. But something in her snaps after she learns about what happened to Mollymauk, how she wasn’t able to save him. Survivors guilt. “I’m the worst cleric ever. I wasn’t there. So I have to be the best. I have to save them, free them, for Molly.” She lashes out and takes on the slavers, wiping out as many as she can and letting her identity be known. She is The Daughter of The Sea. She smuggles the former slaves to safety, killing any slaver or anyone who tries to stop her. At some point, she takes it too far. The Nein, Beau and Nott/Veth specifically, try to intervene, but her trauma kind of breaks her, a bit. She starts to dabble in more of her fathers’ so called “hobbies”. The Nein are still there, they still are trying to help her or get her help, but she pushes them away.
It’s a loose idea, Jester goes dark. It’s probably already been written by someone else

She literally became Jaina for those few minutes, incredible performance. She even tried to cry to get that trembling inflection in her voice.

Shhhhiiit...when she said ''I'm listening now, father.''...Brought a tear to my eye. As sad as it may seem, I've grown up on the Warcraft games all the way from the first one. The lore and characters are as ingrained in me as the real worlds history. Amazing to hear this live. :D

Jaina must’ve been thinking that if she sided with her father during the Second War, he wouldn’t be so arrogant and proud and her brother Derek would still be alive.
Damn, Laura Bailey in this version is even more powerful than in the official release, but the back ups weren't as good imo, but damn when Laura was singing goosebumps the entire time... and I have watched it 4 times and the goosebumps are just as strong....

I can't believe Blizzard didn't bother to use some cool stage lighting, effects and fog to turn this into a real production - it deserves it. Her voice deserves it.

well it was a semi spontansion show, they normaly do a Q&A at the end this was special.
been there, this was a surpirse the producer didnt want agree to do it so the host did it anyway basicaly she sneak the entire thing and the voice actor agreed to do it and our hearts melted that day....

GUH. SO GOOD. Man, this piece will probably be one of the most recognizable songs in the Warcraft universe when all is said and done. It's reached Invincible and Lament of the Highborne status in an incredibly short time and has continued to wow. Thank you so much for sharing!

It didn't really reach Invincible status and I find it better than Lament of the Highborne ( just my opinion but that song is quite boring). Because Invincible is already part of the deep history of Warcraft, this song is way too new. Also... let's be honest we are talking about Arthas, he topps mostly any other WoW character in popularity. Anyways, a good song, but not as iconic as Invincible.

First of, Arthas and Jaina are both incredibly popular characters, but only one of them have been relevant for ten years now, and she is established as a reckognisable, interesting character (in regard to moving the story and being an active participant in the universe).
Secondly, i think you are letting personal nostalgia overrule your rational observation regarding Invincible vs Daughter of the Sea - Invincible has a place in deep lore, which after all these years is very established, but at the time it was not. It came out as a music piece that accompanied the story of Arthas - and it got popular. Just as Daughter of the Sea is a music piece that accompanies Jaina's story, and has gotten incredibly popular. All three songs are impressive and significant pieces of music that has their place at the table of memorable warcraft music.
I don't know the other song you mentioned, but I can sing this entire thing by heart.
