Damn right it is
I just saw it as a pun XD
I was about to like the commen but i saw the number, nice
😂 I hate you
After 2 years it's still so underrated, just like my original comment.
Love how this music is getting metal heads more into blues and soul music and getting blues fans and general music lovers to appreciate metal more
just dont look up any of thier old stuff before they became ZA.. it sucked.. majorly.. lol
dude metals roots are from POC in the american southeast, though blues, and African rhythms that were considered evil by racist white folk at the time
General music lover here, I agree with you 💯 I would have always classed metal as the only genre of music I couldn’t get with (and maybe some jazz). Probably from a naive or initial negative stand point. After only being introduced to Z&A out of necessity of needing to do something fun for my gf birthday whilst I’m Amsterdam I’ve grown to really appreciate them and metal in general. Just as good live all be it some of the band were ill and couldn’t attend and mic problems it was amazing. Would love to see them again closer to home in Yorkshire 🤙
As somebody who has deeply loved both styles for most of my life, its so incredible how well they fuse in Z&A's music alongside the hip hop elements and field chants, it's just this magical combination of things that shouldn't work together but fuse together perfectly and end up as something truly unique and extraordinary in either genre.
Was recommended these guys after making a blog about how metal hasn’t progressed in a while and innovation has kind of stopped. I retract everything. Not sure what I was expecting but it wasn’t this. Absolutely blown away
If you think like that maybe u didn't dig deep enough, sometimes it happens to me as well. I rcomand End of Chapter album, by au dessus, one of my favourites
Myrath, Chthonic, Bloodywood, Sheperds Reign, Ne Obliviscaris, Be'lakor, Between the Buried and Me, Melechesh, Kyng, Cattle Decapitation, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Babymetal... also other bands doing good shit, some getting serious recognition!

I learned a new word today. I hope I get the chance to use it!
I come in the breath of the dead
Bathing in my papa's blood
Bare-boned and covered in red
Waiting on that evening flood
And I came on a ship on fire
To the seas you call your home
Climbed down from the highest spire
I disappear with the ocean foam
I collect all the things I need
I collect all the things I need
I collect all the things I need
I came in the name of the dead
To bring my neck to the blade
Come down where the tempests led
Milon, irago, lamal
We got seven different letters in seven rows
They go widdershins, sideways, vertical
Collected by the old man tied to the seaside
By the woman tied to the grave
I come in the name of the dead
Bathing in my papa's blood
Bare-boned and covered in red
Waiting on that evening flood
I came in the name of the dead
To bring my neck to the blade

me too. It's an amazing song.
"I came in the name of the dead. To bring my neck to the blade." Now that's some real powerful imagery. Looking forward to see you live in hamburg
Just saw them live along with Mastodon and Opeth! Good shit!
This and Row Row blew my mind.
You guys are quickly becoming my all time favorite band.

The chants are from The Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage, they are spells to know all things past and future
Out of curiosity... would you post the exact words please?
Try looking up the 1st Chapter of the Third Book online, here are some footnotes I found translating the Hebrew:
No. 3 is a square of 25 squares, and again a perfect form of double acrostic. DOREH, from DVR Hebrew = a habitation. ORIRE perhaps from Latin ORIOR = to rise or be born. RINIR perhaps from Hebrew NIR = to renew. ERIRO perhaps from ARR = to curse. HEROD from Hebrew ChRD = shaking, trembling.
How do you recognize that? Thats not exactly an obscure grimoire, but still.
It sounds like they're spoken through treditional viking chanting as well.
Damn bro, good shit....

Thank god I stumbled across this magical band..
Of course this song crops up in my recommended on today of all days.
wow zeal and ardor has half a million views? damn I remember the times when they had like 2-3k views on their videos, and it's funny because I didn't expect these guys to attract non-metal listeners in a thousand years, but hey, I'm glad they did.
It probably has to do with the writer Pierce Brown saying he was considering using this as a theme song for a TV adaptation of his book series "Red Rising".
You are a goddamn genius. This isn't just AOTY material, it's album of the DECADE.
I don't feel like that's effusive praise, I feel it's more than earnt. Nothing in metal sounds like this, and next to nothing sounds this good.
Congratulations on creating a bona-fide piece of artistic genius on only your sophomore record.
I cannot WAIT to see where this project goes in future. This not only lives up to the hype generated by your first record, it blows it out of the water. And that's saying something, because I adored Devil is Fine too.
That's a bit too fangirly. It's an amazing project no doubt, but album of the decade? For what is basically a musical experiment born from a shitpost on /mu? AOTY, sure this is my pick so far. But TPAB, Like Clockwork and A Moon Shaped Pool also exist in this decade.
those are more than just a unique and interesting sound
You don’t listen metal music a lot for sure.
@@markszabo3936 uhmmm... taste?
I agree with the OP. I listen to a lot of shit but this mix for me is perfect. I love the single genres and the way they combined them. The fact that the album was born from a shitpost means nothing. Clearly a lot of time and effort was put into it.
Roux Phoenix lol, haven’t heard the new tool album huh?

Such an underrated band. This is badass

I haven't been able to stop listening to this song since I found it. It's so good.
Probably my favourite album of the year
This is my favorite band now.
Had the greatest time at their show last night. Best one of the year. Please for the love of all that is unholy come back to Utah!!!!!
Funny story. I commissioned a vinyl sigil of Lucifer for the hood of my car. The person sent me a Z&A sticker instead. Evidently, the person who commissioned the Z&A sticker wound up with the sigil of Lucifer instead. So that's how I learned about this band :-)
Sooooo good!!!!!!! This was absolutely amazing the second I heard it! I’m under your spell Zeal and Ardor.
Can definitely see why Pierce Brown would want this as a theme song for a red rising tv series.

This band is so talented.
Just started really listening to them due to the messages and history that this band brings back to life i love this!!
I don't know if he was just going for imagery, but after finding out about the Clotilda, I'm coming to believe this is at least partly about Cudjo and others brought by the Maehers.
Heard you at Behemoth concert in Poznan! Great show. Will listen to you guys 100%! Good shit!

Love it
Just caught these guys for the first time at Epicenter Festival in Rockingham, NC this past weekend. Probably one of my favorite shows, having never heard them before. Was highly impressed.
I caught them at Sonic Temple. It was my favorite performance on day 1 and in my top 3 for the entire weekend.

It describes a seven by seven magical square as were used for divination, talismans and alchemy. The nomina barbara (nonexistent words) would result from reading the letters sideways, vertical ect., which was done in magical practise.

I think Manuel may be singing from the perspective of Death itself in this song.
Agreed, i think most of these songs come from perspectives of those warning, or cursing.
He's revenge. Since he uses magical phrase and reference to "collecting everything I need" I think it's a person preparing and changing themselves for revenge.

Okay, can someone please help me out in finding a translation for the "milon/irago/lamal" part because everything i am able to find on this doesn´t make sense
It's an occult spell. No real translation.
"We got seven different letters in seven row
They go widdershins, sideways, vertical
Collected by the old man tied to the seaside
By the woman tied to the grave"
Abramelin's magic squares:
www.grimoire.org/spell/past-future-abramelin/
M I L O N
I R A G O
L A M A L
O G A R I
N O L I M
"To know all things Past and Future in general."
But the song also includes
D O R E H
O R I R E
R I N I R
E R I R O
H E R O D
"To know things appertaining unto the Future."
Given the general motif, "black slaves turning to Lucifer rather than their slaver's God," using occult spells to see the future seems on key. Since the future is never set in stone and occult means to peer into it is only ever peering into *one* possible future, use it to your advantage, since knowing it means you can take steps to change it.
Knowing the past also means you get to learn how exactly you ended up in the present. Many African slaves were sold into the slave trade by non-white slavers. It was a whole business. Knowing their names gives a chance to reap vengeance upon them, too.
Of course that's my interpretation of their inclusion of Abremelin's spells.
@@private-local-enemy thank you very very much, it's really interesting,I never heard of that before so thanks again for answering!
