Jesus Christ is God in human form and says so in the Bible through his prayer, faith, and being Catholic and Christian. @@darkeen42 I was just pointing out that this one in particular is nice in that there was much less anger and resentment involved. I’m not saying everything he says is true, but I am saying that people should be allowed to express themselves without being shut up before they can try to open their mouths. It’s not fair - no matter who’s doing the interruptions - that an opinion be shot down before it has the chance to rise. I do believe that everyone is entitled to their beliefs and values, but I do not believe that those values should contain unjustified hatred, prejudice, or unreasonable treatment. I personally think that people should be allowed to tell others of the same beliefs their thoughts on the matter and then move on, not try to control others in any shape way or form, since that is universally considered evil or tyrannical. They should be allowed to say their views, maybe not act on them if it harms others (and thus should be stopped) and then left alone to consider their values. It isn’t fair to strip a human of their free will and chain them from expressing that will. I’m so used to seeing people just absolutely scream at each other because they think slightly differently that it’s nice to just see two people get along, even if they are from the same belief system. It’s because of all the screaming and hate that there isn’t a chance at world peace, unification, and unrestrained freedom. Again, to reiterate my point; I’m not saying that there are not moments where he is in the wrong, but there is something to be said for men of peace and philosophy discussing matters of the human condition, that’s how advanced thought happens, which later evolves into greater things coming into existence.

Both argument are easily countered, especially the first one..
1- he said that since in his observed world, only life can produce life, then all life must come from a primal life form, which would be a god, something in motion that spread life that he has within him.
What he forgot is that, in our observed world, life has always a beginning, and an end. So in this logic, this primal life, this god, also has a beginning. In this way, what was there before the beginning ? Nothing ? Then a life came out of nothing ? It's incoherent with the first asumption and then It's proven absurd. That argument has no sense and this was a logic reasonning, so there is no debate to do about it...
2- Love. It's sweet but naive to believe that love is something unnatural, almost divine. It's not because something drive your life that it has a superior meaning you know ? People live for stupid reasons and it's proven that love is merely chemical reaction in our brain to make us reproduce and socialize, since it's the best way for humans to keep spreading lives. I considered this argument however better than the first one since it has the notion of the natural inclination for life to spread hidden within it. This cause is somewhat strange when we consider than in all form of society, an individual life who can't or don't want to reproduce is always put aside. Since we don't know the pure reason behind that, it's not stupid to think that this motivation could have been given to us by something larger.
However the simple "love is strong, love is god" is not convincing at all...

You can be a Christian in a Muslim country and viceversa. If you became a doctor and was born in America who am I to say that you wouldn't have become a doctor if you were born in England.

@@Hello-vx2fo Assumptions can be wrong, but they can also be very well justified. There's a difference. For an overwhelming majority of theists, the religion they follow is how they were raised, which is largely a circumstance of where they were born. Of course some people convert but when you see a white guy that's a Christian, it isn't too far of a stretch at all to assume he was born somewhere in the western world (and the US is a very likely and justified guess). If you see a darker skinned person who's a Muslim, you would be forgiven for assuming he was born somewhere in the middle east. If you lived during Antiquity and met someone from Greece, would it really surprise you to learn that he believes in Zeus?
This isn't the point, though. The point of making this assumption is to demonstrate that you have be taught religion. In order to be a Christian, you have to be taught to be a Christian. This falls in direct conflict with the idea of revelation, which is a central point of Christianity, and I suspect that's what he got all pissy about: he was offended by the notion that it's impossible for people to spontaneously be Christians.

Life is derived from organic molecules (proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids). Proteins are made from sequences of monomers called of amino acids. Carbohydrates are made from monomers called monosaccharides which have a basic formula of CH2O. Nucleic acids are made from monomers called nucleotides which are made of a sugar (deoxyribose or ribose), phosphate group, and nitrogenous base such as adenine, thymine, guanine, cytosine, or uracil. Lipids aren't made of sequences of monomers; instead, lipids have varying molecular structures that can consist of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, nitrogen and other elements. We don't recognize organic molecules as living, but they make up the components of living organisms. So in a sense, 'animate can come from inanimate.' Hope you learned something new!

@@assassin_5656 Not exactly but I appreciate you asking. Abiogenesis seeks to identify an explanation that explains how the environmental conditions and chemical processes billions of years ago enabled life to form. My original post was in response to Knechtle's 1st piece of evidence for God's existence. My goal was to explain how proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, nucleic acids are required in order for living beings to exist. In addition, if we assess Knetchle's first argument for God's existence, we see it is not evidence but rather logic and we can evaluate it as such.
      Premise 1: Life exists.
Premise 2: Life comes from pre-existing life.
Premise 3: life cannot come from non-living things.
Conclusion: Therefore, God as described in the Christian Bible is responsible for the origin of life.
My disagreement lies in premise 3. If I did agree with premise 3, I still do not understand how such a conclusion can be derived from the following premises. The only logical conclusion I can see that would follow is that life has always existed.

Clerical ignorance and bigotry are indeed a popular theme in films and novels set in the Middle Ages. It is also impossible to deny that the Inquisition was an institution established in the 13th century or that individual priests, monks and friars may indeed have been uneducated and fanatical. Yet it would be a gross exaggeration and a misleading generalization to suggest that the Christian religions “held back scientific and technological progress in the Middle Ages.”
The Middle Ages was actually a period of significant technological advancement. This would not have been possible if the Catholic Church as an institution opposed learning, experimentation and innovation. The Catholic Church as an institution was NOT governed by bigotry and superstition nor was it was inherently opposed to study, scholarship, and scientific inquiry.
Let's start with the simple fact that the Church, notably monasteries and nunneries, were the most effective centers for the preservation of classical literature and thought in the period immediately following the "fall" of the Roman Empire. This was especially so in the Eastern Roman Empire where monasteries were not immediately threatened, but more important in the West where they were. It is important to understand that it was in these religious institutions that the teachings not only of Christ but of Aristotle and Plato were preserved, copied, read, studied and analyzed.
Monasteries continued to be centers of learning -- not rote learning as in the Koran schools familiar across the world today -- but as centers of inquiry and study, even after the political situation had stabilized. By the 11th century they were very much centers of intellectual inquiry and debate. Peter Abelard (unfortunately more famous for his affair with Heloise than for his philosophy) is just one example of a critical thinker as a theologian, philosopher and logician. Hildegard von Bingen is, of course, another example from the same century. She wrote treatises on medicine and natural history characterized by a high quality of scientific observation. Later scholars of note included Roger Bacon and Thomas Aquinas.
Indeed, the very concept of universities - places dedicated to learning and debate protected by the notion of academic freedom -- evolved out of the Cathedral schools of the Middle Ages. Pope Gregory VII in a papal decree from 1079 regulated Cathedral schools and is credited with thereby providing the framework for independent universities. The first such university was established just nine years later in 1088 at Bologna, Italy. It was followed by the University of Paris in 1150 and the University of Oxford in 1167.
The learning taught in these universities was not confined to scripture. On the contrary, study of ancient Greek and Roman texts was an essential component of medieval higher education. It is a fallacy -- but a frequently repeated and propagated one -- that knowledge of classical texts were "re-discovered" in the Renaissance after such knowledge was "preserved" by the Muslims. This is nonsense. The University of Bologna at its inception was focused on teaching Roman law -- that is ancient Roman not canon law! The principal sources used for teaching medicine in medieval universities were Hippocrates, Galen and Avicenna. Aristotle and Plato were hotly debated in studies of law, politics, logic, and philosophy.
Universities also provided study of mathematics and the natural sciences, based largely on classical but also Byzantine and even Muslim scholars. The university culture at this time, furthermore, was based on debates, disputations, and the requirement to read extensively in order to pass examinations, which entailed defending ones ideas before a panel of established scholars. The concept of "peer review" and defense of a doctrinal dissertation today is based on this medieval tradition.
Just one small example, the knowledge that the earth was a sphere was widespread in intellectual circles in the Middle Ages. In the 6th century, for example, Bishop Isidore of Seville included the fact that the earth was round in his encyclopedia. The Venerable Bede writing roughly a century later described the earth as an "orb" at the center of the universe. Hildegard von Bingen writing the 11th century described the earth as a sphere, no less than did Dante's Divine Comedy written in the 14th century. Galileo was condemned NOT in the Middle Ages, but in the so-called Renaissance; furthermore, he was condemned not for saying the earth was round, but rather that the earth revolved around the sun rather than the reverse.
This brings us to the fact that fundamentalism, the belief that all knowledge is contained in scripture, is inherently more bigoted and anti-science than was the medieval church. It was the Reformation, with its emphasis on the Bible -- and the Bible alone -- that bred religious bigotry in the West.
Likewise, it is Islamic fundamentalism, not enlightened Islam, that poses a threat to peaceful co-existence between peoples holding different religious beliefs to this day.@@whyme7210

The difference is that we interact with and observe the world, and we extract all of our happiness from doing so. Not really.
All of the errors in the human body are better explained by evolution than by there being some kind of creator.
      1. An unsound spine
Our spines are a mess. It’s a wonder we can even walk, says Bruce Latimer, director of the Center for Human Origins at Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland. When our ancestors walked on all fours, their spines arched, like a bow, to withstand the weight of the organs suspended below. But then we stood up. That threw the system out of whack by 90 degrees, and the spine was forced to become a column. Next, to allow for bipedalism, it curved forward at the lower back. And to keep the head in balance-so that we didn’t all walk around as if doing the limbo-the upper spine curved in the opposite direction. This change put tremendous pressure on the lower vertebrae, sticking about 80 percent of adults, according to one estimate, with lower back pain.
      2. An inflexible knee
As Bruce Latimer says, “You take the most complex joint in the body and put it between two huge levers-the femur and the tibia-and you’re looking for trouble.” The upshot is your knee only rotates in two directions: forward and back. “That’s why every major sport, except maybe rugby, makes it illegal to clip, or hit an opponent’s knee from the side.”
      3. A too-narrow pelvis
Childbirth hurts. And to add insult to injury, the width of a woman’s pelvis hasn’t changed for some 200,000 years, keeping our brains from growing larger.
      4. Exposed testicles
A man’s life-giving organs hang vulnerably outside the body.
      5. Crowded teeth
Humans typically have three molars on each side of the upper and lower jaws near the back of the mouth. When our brain drastically expanded in size, the jaw grew wider and shorter, leaving no room for the third, farthest back molars. These cusped grinders may have been useful before we learned to cook and process food. But now the “wisdom teeth” mostly just get painfully impacted in the gums.
      6. Meandering arteries
Blood flows into each of your arms and legs via one main artery, which enters the limb on the front side of the body, by the biceps or hip flexors. To supply blood to tissues at a limb’s back side, such as the triceps and hamstrings, the artery branches out, taking circuitous routes around bones and bundling itself with nerves. This roundabout plumbing can make for some rather annoying glitches. At the elbow, for instance, an artery branch meets up with the ulnar nerve, which animates your little finger, just under the skin. That’s why your arm goes numb when the lower tip of your upper arm bone, called the humerus or “funny bone,” takes a sharp blow.
      7. A backward retina
The photoreceptor cells in the retina of the eye are like microphones facing backward, writes Nathan Lents, an associate professor of molecular biology at the City University of New York. This design forces light to travel the length of each cell, as well as through blood and tissue, to reach the equivalent of a receiver on the cell’s backside. The setup may encourage the retina to detach from its supporting tissue-a leading cause of blindness. It also creates a blind spot where cell fibers, akin to microphone cables, converge at the optic nerve-making the brain refill the hole.
      8. A misrouted nerve
The recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) plays a vital role in our ability to speak and swallow. It feeds instructions from the brain to the muscles of the voice box, or larynx, below the vocal cords. Theoretically, the trip should be a quick one. But during fetal development, the RLN gets entwined in a tiny lump of tissue in the neck, which descends to become blood vessels near the heart. That drop causes the nerve to loop around the aorta before traveling back up the larynx. Having this nerve in your chest makes it vulnerable during surgery-or a fist fight.
      9. A misplaced voice box
The trachea (windpipe) and esophagus (food pipe) open into the same space, the pharynx, which extends from the nose and mouth to the larynx (voice box). To keep food out of the trachea, a leaf-shaped flap called the epiglottis reflexively covers the opening to the larynx whenever you swallow. But sometimes, the epiglottis isn’t fast enough. If you’re talking and laughing while eating, food may slip down and get lodged in your airway, causing you to choke.
      10. A klugey brain
The human brain evolved in stages. As new additions were being built, older parts had to remain online to keep us up and running, explains psychologist Gary Marcus in his book Kluge: The Haphazard Evolution of the Mind. And that live-in construction project led to slapdash workarounds. It’s as if the brain were a dysfunctional workplace, where young employees (the forebrain) handled newfangled technologies like language while the old guard (the midbrain and hindbrain) oversaw the institutional memory-and the fuse box in the basement. A few outcomes: depression, madness, unreliable memories, and confirmation bias.

My alternative argument is that God is generally defined as an eternal, immaterial, spaceless, timeless consciousness that created the entirety of what exists from nothing. So this being is basically the exact opposite of anything that we have observed to be "life." Yet they still appeal to this being to satisfy the statement "life comes from life."
The general statement that life comes from life is true because life is composed of matter, within spacetime, made of DNA and mortal. Things we call life are able to make other things we call life because they are physical, within space AND time, not immortal and made of self-replicating molecules like DNA. To remove all of those traits and call it a God just destroys the foundation of the statement itself. The definition of life becomes infinitely broad so it can include fish and trees but also universe-making super consciousnesses.

And although we never got to see actual life coming from "non life", we have a whole Lot of fossils (and living creatures) that show a clear and gradative increase in life complexity. Also, even we didn't have any of these things, his argument would still be ignorant. The lack of a explanation isn't a proof of the Divine or supernatural. This "i can't explain this, so It must be god" argument was used in the past for Seasons, meteors, rain, thunder, eclipses, earthquakes, etc etc etc. Humanity should've learned a lesson Millena ago. To a degree, you are kind of right in the sense that there's no evidence supporting that it is anything else other than that, but then again, there is also not a definitive proof that it isn't something deeper. Conciousness is famously unproven to be a materialistic construct or an independent form of existence, at least in philosophy. So, if emotions and feelings are linked to conciousness, there could be a chance that those chemical reactions are actually something that runs deeper than just pure science. This is, of course, just unproven philosophical ideas proposed by philosophers, not actual facts and theories established by physicists.

The Bible is often seen as a letter from a FATHER to His CHILDREN on the BEST way to live a SUCCESSFUL LIFE. But sometimes, we get caught up in the rules and regulations and forget that God is capable of so much more than we can ever imagine. Think about it. We're just a small speck in this vast universe, and yet we think we know everything there is to know about God. We put Him in a box and limit His power.
Have you ever thought about the LIMITS we put on God's capabilities? As humans, we have achieved so much, from sending messages from the moon to Earth to creating advanced technology. Yet, we often limit what we believe God can do.
Why do we do this? Is it because we can't comprehend the vastness of His power? Or is it because we want to feel in control?
But let's think about it. If we, as mere humans, can achieve so much, why can't God do even more? Why can't He perform miracles beyond our understanding and make sure that His CHILDREN have GUIDELINES to LIVE by so that they will have a VICTORIOUS AND PROSPEROUS LIFE?
Perhaps it's time for us to open our minds and hearts to the infinite possibilities of God's power. To trust that He is capable of ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. We need to let go of our need for control and surrender to His will.
Let us not limit God's capabilities with our own limited understanding. Instead, let us have faith in His unlimited power and love. With Him, ALL things are POSSIBLE.
It's natural to wonder why we can trust that the Bible is God's word. After all, it's a book that has been around for thousands of years, and has been translated and edited numerous times. But despite all of this, the Bible remains a source of inspiration and guidance for millions of people around the world. So, how do we know that the Bible is truly God's word? Here are a few key points to consider: The Bible is a book that has been RESPECTED for centuries as the word of God. But how can we trust that it is truly God's word?
Well, first of all, we must understand that the Bible is not just one book, but a collection of 66 books written over a span of 1,500 years by more than 40 authors. Despite this diversity, the Bible presents a COHESIVE message of God's love and redemption for humanity.
Also, the Bible has stood the test of time. It has been translated into countless languages and has been read by BILLIONS of people throughout history. Despite attempts to DISCREDIT it or DESTROY it, the Bible continues to be the BEST-SELLING BOOK in the WORLD.
The most compelling reason to trust that the Bible is God's word is the way it has TRANSFORMED LIVES. Countless people throughout history have been CHANGED by reading and studying the Bible. It has brought HOPE to the HOPELESS, comfort to the grieving, and GUIDANCE to the LOST.
Finally, we must remember that if HUMANS can send MESSAGES from the MOON to EARTH, surely God can COMMUNICATE with us through his WORD. The God who created the universe and everything in it is certainly CAPABLE of inspiring and PROTECTING HIS MESSAGE for us, His CHILDREN.
We can trust that the Bible is God's word because of its cohesiveness, durability, transformative power, and because we believe that if humans can accomplish amazing feats, then surely God can do even more.
Have you ever heard someone say that the Bible has transformed their life? It's a common statement, but what makes the Bible different from other books that claim to have the same effect?
Well, for starters, the Bible is more than just a book. It's a collection of writings that span thousands of years and multiple genres. It contains history, poetry, prophecy, and teachings on morality and spirituality.
But what really sets the Bible apart is its message. The Bible tells the story of God's love for humanity and his plan for redemption. It offers hope in a world that can often feel hopeless.
And it's not just a message for some people or a certain time period. The Bible's message is universal and timeless. It speaks to people of all ages, races, and backgrounds.
But perhaps what truly makes the Bible different is its ability to transform lives. Countless people throughout history have found comfort, guidance, and purpose through its pages. Its teachings have inspired people to love their neighbors, forgive their enemies, and live selflessly.
So if you're looking for a book that can transform your life, consider giving the Bible a chance. Its message has stood the test of time and has the power to change hearts and minds. While there are certainly other books that have transformed lives, the Bible stands apart in its origin, personal relevance, longevity, and unifying power. Its impact on individuals and society as a whole cannot be denied.

The issue with his statemate though, is that we don't know everything about the universe.
Rather than jumping to conclusions that god exists, we should do research and try to work our way to a conclusion.
It's evident that at some point, under highly rare circumstances, certain elements and compounds came together to form chemical reactions that worked like machines. Which formed the need for certain elements or compounds to create other chemical reactions. This of course, is life; chemical reactions formed from other chemical reactions to sustain a living being. Constantly running, with the required resources of course.
God isn't any more probable than evolution. Both beliefs have their own pieces of evidence, but in the end, we don't know enough to get to a conclusion.
Love is an emotion that occurs when certain chemical reactions occur in your brain, just like any other emotion. We currently don't know how you seeing something or knowing something effects your brain, but that's why science exists.
Science exists to find a conclusion using our brain as the brush, and the environment as our canvas.
Kinda ironic that the very thing we use to find conclusions is one of the most mysterious phenomena we have ever seen.

@galaxy6251. God is not alive. God is not dead. He exists in a realm of being to complex for us to comprehend. Even if life can be created, sentient life has yet to be created which begs the question: How did consciousness come to be?

@J_C656 okay so you are saying that life does not always come from life. So you disagree with this guy? Cuz if God is non living and he created life than that means you believe life can come from non-life. So that completely undermines his point about why God is probable

I just want to say, before I get to the arguments, I genuinely respect this kind of discussion, not bad faith, not interrupting or filled with fallacy, but purely made to ask and answer questions.
Now for the response. For starters, life usually doesn’t have to come from living things, yes, living-related chemicals must be present, but life itself can form from the non-living in the correct circumstances. Experiments with this don’t exactly show that in a small space, but that’s because the circumstances are different. The materials need to be found first, and it’s consistently theorized that life came from one common species somewhere down the line, which formed from the most simple of organisms that earth could sustain, creating photosynthetic organisms that allowed for more complicated life to form.
Second, love. Love itself is an emotion felt in the brain, it can be controlled, it’s tangibly changeable if one controls the brain, and came both as a method of our previous survival, and to help us stick together and add to the positive reward survival gives us in nature. Little of it truly points to a god, considering that love is an emotion felt by most animals in a visible way, especially among mammals.
