Sorry guys, at the time I wasn’t educated enough about vaseline, I thankfully don’t use it to moisturise my tattoos in the aftercare process any more. Intead of that use shea butter, anykind of tattoo aftercare cream or coconut oil.

I would recommend to take the saniderm off in the shower. This is waaay more comfortable, and gives the glue time to loosen up before removing it.

I've always been told to take off the wrapping and wash with antibacterial soap a few hours after getting tattooed. then use Aquaphor (a thick "healing ointment") for 3 days and then use plain lotion for the rest of the time, but not moisturizing too much so it can still get dry enough to get scabs.
my boyfriend just healed his leg tattoo with Saniderm (a healing film) and when he took it off after the end of the week the tattoo was healed ! so cool. you put the first sheet on for 24 hours to catch all the ink and then you take it off, clean and change it and then you can keep the second one on for 6 days

The right product is Bepanthene Plus, not the regular Bepanthene. The regular one is for situations where there's no risk of infection. Since the tattoo is an open would, Bepanthene Plus is the way to go for healing: it has no colorants, preservants nor scent. And its transparent and not so thick, so it's very easy to apply.
I've heard the regular one sometimes dimms or diminishes the saturation of the colors, so be sure to get Bepanthene Plus if you're going for it. It's a perfectly safe product sold in any pharmacy.

I've had many different types of aftercare recommended to me. The one I've noticed works the best is: get the tattoo, take off the wrapping in a few hours, wash with Dr Bronners unscented soap, let dry heal until scabs start to form, then put a VERY LIGHT layer of Aquaphor on.

I have a lot of color tattoos the oldest about 8yrs old. "Saniderm" most artist now about it, but you put it on and forget about it for a week or so. I recommend, prevents scabing and holds color really good.

I have tried all the methods you've said. I like saniderm but it irritates my skin, healed the tattoo quickly with no scabbing, but left me with hyperpigmentation in places around the tattoo. Sadly dry healing doesn't work for me my tattoos itch like crazy. I use coconut oil and a mixture of non scented lotion to do the trick.

I have lots of tattoos and i've always used an Organic Tattoo Butter made from Avocado from my Tattoo shop they always healed perfect by putting only a small layer on the skin. I had a girlfriend who went to the same tat artist as me she dry healed and i gotta say my tattoo has more vibrant colours than hers.

i used second skin once and the tattoo healed in the normal time frame for me (2 weeks) but it was easier. my artist told me to leave it on for 4 or 5 days and then afterwards only use lotion when needed. it was so great to not stress about my tattoo for those first few days and then just listen to what my body was telling me after that. my only complaint is that i did bleed enough that the tattoo ended up being covered in dried blood for those first few days and he told me if that happens i can take it off and heal it normally but i really wanted to ride it out. it ended up being fine, but maybe i should've just taken it off lol

  • @OGustavoTV

I tried the first and the third method. I used Bepanthen Plus and it gets the job done with a good result but not really the best feeling during the process. A bit too sticky and the smell was also not my favourite. The film was really the best. I tried it for a colorfull tattoo (watercolor) and the final result was reallly good! Also, I didn't need to worry with anything and the tattoo was healed in 6 days. And yes, the glue in dermalize is really hard to get out. I just could take it off in the shower with warm water. Now i'm also healing two new tattoos (in black) with a vegan cream.

I'll definitely try dry healing on my next tattoo since when I got my first one I did the traditional method and it took about a week and a half to scab and I was really concerned about it. But it turned out okay it healed just fine there was no lifting of the ink but I was still scared and I hated having the sticky lotion on my arm

    •  5 років тому +2

Mariel ME deffinetely then try Dry Healing out, cuz it was the same for me - the scabb would not form. Now the scab shows up on the third day.

    •  5 років тому +2

Awesome! Sounds like your healing went well! I also think that if you dry heal it, it heals faster, like the scab shows up earlier. So sounds like you did everything right and also moisturising the tattoo when it gets really itchy is a good thing to do.

I had tegaderm for my inner bicep as well and it was a life saver. I did the tattoo in 2 sessions and the first time I did aftercare as usual, but it was excessively peeling and constantly rubbing my sleeve. Can I use virgin coconut oil as my aftercare product (on day 4-5 after gettin' inked) instead of oitment or lotion cream?

    •  2 роки тому

Well, I mean, if you use coconut oil to moisturise your body on a daily then you can surely use it after the scab has fallen off and if the new tattoo feels "too tight" or too dry. For when the tattoo is still healing and forming a scab Id recommend following your tattoo artists instructions for aftercare. But Im guessing that on day 4/5 the scab has mostly come off (also depends where you got tattooed) and it is safe to us coconut oil to moisturise your tattoo.

    •  5 років тому +1

Congrats! :) Not to throw shade on the artist, but washing a fresh tattoo so often sounds wrong, when most artists advise for you to keep a very fresh tattoo out of the water as much as possible, and you can wash it a few hours after the session when you take the wrap off (to get any excess gunk off of the tattoo). But I hope that you will find a way and do what feels right to you.
