Thanks a ton for sharing this, Maurence! The Vikings had a good team in '94 and I only have a couple of their victories. Marino and the Dolphins only played the Vikes twice (how?) in his long career, and this was his only trip to Minneapolis. Glad to add this to my collection!
Their Wildcard weekend loss at home to a Bears team they beat twice during the 94 season, marked the turning point where most of the Minnesota sporting press was hoping Denny Green would get fired. Especially when Dungy got the Tampa Bay job the next season.
Before the 2002 realignment, there were a lot of scheduling quirks (I heard that Jim Kelly never played against the San Diego Chargers, stuff like that) where teams would go football generations without playing one another.
When there were 30 teams, there were 5 per division. Meaning you only played four of each five in the opposing division in the opposing conference. I believe the Vikings were the team the Dolphins missed in '97.
@@gluserty You got that right. The most ridiculous quirk was between the Dolphins and the Broncos. Between 1976-1997 they only played each other once in 1985. We were robbed of Elway vs Marino for all those years despite being in the same conference. Ridiculous.
The 94 season was so wild. The NFL was about to get hit hard by franchise free agency the next season and beyond. Rams to St.Louis, Raiders back to Oakland, Browns to Baltimore (before Modell agreed to leave the team name, colors, and history in Cleveland for an expansion team in 99) Oilers to Tennessee, plus two expansion teams in Carolina and Jacksonville.
Thanks so much for uploading, been looking for this game for years! Marino vs Moon in The Dome; 2 of the most gifted arms in NFL history and both HOFers!
Funny they called the Run 'n' Shoot a "gimmick" offense back then but who knew it was really a glimpse of the future....they were using 2-man route combinations, pre-snap motion to ID coverages and sight adjustments off that, running choice routes and "back shoulder fades" which they called "fade-stops." Moon was way ahead of most of the other QBs of that era, except of course for Dan Marino and I think with the rules that are in place today that both of them would have won a Super Bowl or maybe even two.
Blessed to have been at this game as these two teams have always been my favorite. Huge Marino fan and happy I got to see his only game in Minnesota as a resident of Winona, MN. Pretty amazing game, but again as typical of the Marino era, horrible Dolphins defense screwed him over.
But man does this remind just how special it was to have watched DAN MARINOS entire career and it really has NEVER been the same since his retirement, but I remember watching this gm and everyone gettin on me cuz they were gettin crushed and I said I'm tellin u this gm is NOT OVER cuz he had that FIRE in this one so I just knew my phins would make a gm of it but in the end just NOT ENOUGH but Byars hit the post, how could that not be a TD,the ball hit the post!!
@@Monty_McFly yep. that 98 vikings team was something to see. if they play those same falcons 100 times- they wouldve beat em 99. just about ruined the superbowl that year...
Gary Anderson not Morten. Should have never came down to that kick. Denny and billick went pussy in the second half. Robert smith running out of bounds to stop the clock didn’t help either.
Man Marino is.magic to see. Unfortunately for him his best WR After Marx Bros was literally one and he was only solid Fryer. Great game How many times has Dan been on target and his WR drop the ball, more times Imagine then anyone else.. Dan was too good amd too smart for the low end talent he had at WR
I'm here as a football fan because the old timers told me that these were the two Qbs who were the most advanced Quarterbacks at seeing the field and reading defenses who ran very modern style offenses. They say these were really the two best, along with maybe John Elway, of that era even though neither of them won the big game, they did lead their teams to perennial playoff berths on a yearly basis and the Oilers stunk once Moon left just like the Dolphins post-Marino
@@stevenzimmerman4057 I think Charlie Jones did things different in that, due to excitement, he sounded like a fan calling the game. Jones would also seamlessly set up his partners with facts and information that they could elaborate on, to me creating a well-balanced booth presentation.
Miamis D once again failed em and SHULA made a questionable call on 4th down at 2 min in 4th qtr, shoulda kicked the FG,at least 3 pts,I forgot that Dan brought thwm all the way back to tie it at 28 only for the D and special teams blow it,just too much on Marino as ALWAYS,his whole career could be summed up in this gm here!!
Thanks for the post. Reminds me of my teen years. Do you have Panthers @ 49ers (Week 10 1995)? That was the only time that an expansion team in their inaugural season to beat a defending world champion.
It is true that Goodell is a punkassbitch that much can't be denied however Have you ever looked at a high resolution jpeg image of a Brain that's been afflicted with "Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy" ? *Because I took one look at an image of a CTE brain and completely changed my opinion on matters of "player safety" and concussive head trauma.* I admit that certain rules seem to cynically use the excuse of "player safety" to handcuff the defensive side and produce a higher scoring and presumably more "exciting" game for new fans. But legislating the helmet-to-helmet stuff out of the game was definitely a good thing.

great post , i just wished we could have kept Irving Fryaer and the Keith brothers AKA Keith Jackson and Keith Byers
Never thought I would see this game uploaded. Thanks. Been looking for a while.
The Vikings have two Super Bowl winning coaches on their staff. Tony Dungy and Brian Billick.
Which makes it even more of a shame Dennis Green couldnt win a chip. His coaching staff was incredible. Fucking Morten Anderson...

This game is emblematic of Marino's career. He carried that offense; unfortunately, the Dolphin runnig game and defense always let him down.

This was Marino's only regular season visit to the Metrodome, although the Dolphins did play the Vikings there in 84 and 86 preseason.
I was looking for this game for a long time. Thanks, I Troy Vincent was playing it would have been a Dolphins win for sure.

Bryan Cox would have to wait 7 years to get a ring with Tom Brady and Belichick
The Vikings are wearing their 1961 uniforms to celebrate the 75th season of the National Football League.
They wore those from 1961-1969 it wasn't just the 1961 season that they wore those
The Missile Quadry Ismail from Syracuse
Do you have the Dolphins at Vikings game from 1979
The NFL was 100X better back then it is now Rodger goodell is such a human baby it's sick The NFL is sad now

Back when I used to know the name of every player on the vikes. Now it's who is that guy?
I really don't remember #37 must only started 1yr at Safety
I've seen film quality from games in the early 70s with?
What's with the ref hats??
It was the 75th anniversary NFL season. The refs were wearing throw back hats.
