Iam 67 years old and when i was 21 i kicked part of the John Muir trail just wanted to tell what an inspiration you are to me and all the other people who have watched. You have gotten me to walk around a lot.Cool,Cool
It BLEW MY MIND! That first 400 miles, I felt like I may go insane, any time I stopped for 5 seconds I could have sworn they could have picked me up and flown me away there were so many.
Good sir. I want to thank you for filming the walk of IAT ! Being a cheesehead I think you are the only person whom ever chronicled the entirety. I wish for you and IAT less road needs to be used. I tried to section the upper Kettle Moraine in July, SB (the part you enjoyed much). Mosquitos and the deer/horse flies bit through the t shirt and drew blood when swatted to kill them. BTW saw the same shelter you checked out because you didn't have to walk far to see it. Again thank YOU!
Thanks for watching! Ohhhhhh July, that section would be brutal in that heat and with the flies, I can only imagine. Still such a beautiful area though! Yea I was stoked to see the shelter systems in this area, could not camp in one because did not get the permits coordinated but they seemed really well taken care of and clean. If I would have done it differently would have definitely tried to stay in one of those shelters on a nice night! Once again, thanks for watching, these videos can be brutally long winded but I wanted to try and capture as much info, history, and mind set of this trail as possible.
Thank you for the great documentation, Constantine! I'm in my 50s and my husband is in his 60s. We're starting to talk about through-hiking the IAT when we retire (hopefully in about 5 years), and started looking at the first handful of days after the start in St Croix Falls, and were a little concerned about the lack of sleeping sites and other resources. Another person in an IAT group pointed me to your videos. Just seeing things like that camping site in Centuria is so helpful and reassuring for this older hiker considering her first thru-hike. :)
Dear Constantine, Thank you for creating your youtube channel! I am inspired by you and I will be following suit when the time is right! I live in Wisconsin and plan to go south (warmer temps and hopefully not too many bugs) for my first big hike. I haven't hiked anything yet and I am legally blind, so it is sure to be an adventure! If you are on FB, lmk your name on there, please. I would like to follow your adventures there, too. I should clarify: I have hiked up the Ausengate (Andes) mountains in Peru over the course of 3-4 days. We summited at 15,000 feet. I hike around my little DePere, WI (went to a couple Ice Age Trail portions you walked on different occasions to check them out), but nothing like the through-hikes you do. I have my gear--mostly and now I am awaiting the big push....thanks for your work!
Wow very kind words and very impressive feats you have accomplished. It always impresses me more when I meet people such as yourself on trail not letting anything stop you and getting out there experiencing the trail! Our Facebook is ElevenSkys, if you ever have any questions please feel free to message us and we will answer if we can
whew the IAT in summer?!?! Doable for sure but...... depends how much you want to embrace the suck...if I had my preference would of much preferred to do it in late fall
Love watching your videos. It's made me want to do the Ice Age Trail this year. How did you handle your food during this hike? Bear Bag? Did you hang or just keep your food in your tent with you?
Hi Lance, Thanks for Watching! I am glad you are thinking about doing the Ice Age Trail there is so much to see and enjoy out there! As for food I did not carry that much at all due to being able to pass a gas station or convenience store every day or so. I believe the longest food carry I had was 4-5 days and after that it was literally like every day or so. I carry a odor proof food bag, but I would recommend some areas hanging the bear bag, I did hear bears and saw many bear tracks and signs especially in the Western part of Wisconsin until the town of Antigo. If you are planning more in depth the trail and have any specific questions please feel free to email me at: constantinehikes@gmail.com I would be happy to help and answer and questions I could!
Looking over your gear/food list...top brands for your gear $$$$, but food? A backbacker can not live on Knorr sides alone. 😂✌🍔🥙🥪🥞🎂 Looking forward to your vlogs
A backpacker can live on knower pasta sides alone, hence living proof right here :) The question is how enjoyable and how healthy is that life... and the answer to that is extremely unpleasant haha. Will be eating “better” on the NCT for sure!
I remember how bad mosquitoes were on a ice age segment I was on in summer , that area had a ton of water so they were just on attack mode non stop , gotta get that bug spray
thank you for good video, living in germany it is lovely to walk in another country

Hi Paul,
Thank You, that is so awesome to hear! I am glad that you are getting after some miles yourself!
Wait wait wait WHAAAAT Magpie!? Are you Constantine from the backpacker radio interview?! Omg!!!
This is making me cry cause I wanna go hiking and we're in a tropical storm 😞
Bug netting is needed in Wisconsin!!
When I was a kid I lived on the Northern Kettle Moraine section of the trail. I think it’s the nicest part of the trail too.
Absolutely stunning!
Mosquitos are the state bird of Wisconsin. When I moved to Oakland CA, I couldn't comprehend windows with no screens and houses with no heat.
It BLEW MY MIND! That first 400 miles, I felt like I may go insane, any time I stopped for 5 seconds I could have sworn they could have picked me up and flown me away there were so many.
Hey Constantine, little late to the show, got stuck in traffic. did you run into Garth at Waynes food? party on dude!
Boutta start binging your IAT vids! I like your filming style where you show the trail a lot
Thanks Will,
I do tend to film quite a lot! It shows not only trail but also trail thoughts, little moments that make up the experience.

Love referencing these vids as I work on completing my section hike of the IAT. Thanks Constantine!
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing.

I love this trail! I section hiked the Blackhawk segment and it was so vibrant and beautiful
I popped on to watch your hike because I was thinking of thru hiking the IAT this summer...but those mosquitoes have me thinking twice!
whew the IAT in summer?!?! Doable for sure but...... depends how much you want to embrace the suck...if I had my preference would of much preferred to do it in late fall
Dude y'all are hiking machines. I bet goodbyes are hard for good friends.

Did not know we had a thru hike trail in the Midwest. Yes we have mosquitoes and black flies as well.
Good luck on the IAT. This trail feels very European. Good signposting, clear trails, not too hilly, lot of places to sit and rest. Cruisy miles!
I remember how bad mosquitoes were on a ice age segment I was on in summer , that area had a ton of water so they were just on attack mode non stop , gotta get that bug spray
I have the bug spray.... I’m trying the technique of out running them but sadly it just doesn’t work!
I get to do it this summer
Awesome! Stay safe and stay well out there, and enjoy!
You and Magpie should be great on the GDT maybe next year. Go get that passport!
Colorado Trail >>> Ice Age Trail
But it does suck going from hiking with people to hiking alone. Hard to find people who hike big miles
Sie So you guys seemed like a good team on PNT. Did you just happen to end up hiking together or was it planned? GDT for you three would be great!
Yea brother our crew was strong! But AZT here we come soon!
We just ran into each other at the start, and our hiking styles/ personalities clicked. I’m definitely down just gotta convince Magpie/ Sie
