Prince Charles eats oysters for England

  • The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall began their visit to the Whitstable Oyster Festival with a bang, drumming to the beat of a carnival-themed tune with a local community samba band.
    At the beginning of their visit to Whitstable Oyster Festival in Kent, the royal couple joined local community samba band Samba Pelo Mar on stage where they helped drum to the beat of a carnival-themed tune.
    Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall met with local fishermen during their visit to the week-long festival which dates back to Norman times.
    Camilla tried her hand at Punch and Judy, while Prince Charles had the honour of sampling oysters at a local seafood stall.
    Prince Charles joked with photographers who were keen to get a snap of him eating the local delicacy, saying the "the things I do for England, eating oysters".
    Whitstable is famous for its native oyster. Popular since Roman times, they are farmed seasonally, and are only available between September and April.
