Is there a tutorial for the rocker switch you have at the bottom with the one switch?
@@sixstringcarnage Sadly no. I installed that way before I started making vids. Here's a link to the item though: cart.iggycorp.com
Do you think it is possible to pull the 4WD switch out of the dash without pulling the whole dash?
@@craigrieger9721 The face of the 4x4 knob pulls right off but I think you would have to remove the center console piece to get everything else out.
I would think that some people might say you'd be annoying because of all the little things you do that "don't matter." But I too am a man of detail, im never going to build up my truck like you have, but small things like this, detail, I truly appreciate. Small things that others may not notice, but small things that as the owner you appreciate and enjoy. I can honestly say your channel has been the biggest help for me as I plan my build, and I have a 2011 so a few of your vids don't even apply to me. Your the man, I enjoy all your vids and I appreciate the time and effort you take to contribute to the tacoma community!!! Id love to have you as a Tacoma buddy 🤙🤙 toyota love!
I never got along with the dash in second generation Tacoma but have to say this is a great improvement. Looks awesome
Thanks for the feature at the end man.
I would add a step of sanding what you plan to paint. For this i would suggest a 1500 or 2000 grit. Could use wet/dry paper or ideally a ‘gray’ 3M scuff pad. Also spray paint isnt chemical or UV resistant so use caution on whatever you use to clean your dash. it will also get faded and chalky eventually. A much better option would be a 2k spray paint that is activated and hardened (Eastwood or SprayMax 2k gloss or matte). Line up, prep, and spray most interior parts at the same time because the 2k paint will harden and is no good after 24hrs I believe. That would be a professional quality paint job 👍. Also just a tip... hang the part you’re painting so you can hold the spray can vertically.... they perform MUCH better than when they are horizontal.
Great videos looking for steering wheel cover mine has started to fade off what do you recommend
I got the center dash, speaker rings and the rings around the gauges re-done . Like the way it looks, will be installing a Android Stereo system in it soon, this lead me to a thought. Installing RGB (pixel) lights in the dash and for the floor.
I've used vinyl/plastic dye for stuff like this. You can get it from several companies including Duplicolor in a normal aerosol can. It's a chemical concoction that actually interacts with the plastic and dyes it so it's not just a surface layer that can be chipped or worn off easily. Obviously it's still only going to be so deep but I've had stuff for years that's fine. A word of warning though: Some plastics, especially silvery stuff, are actually a painted on surface layer over black plastic and I don't know how the dye would interact with that. The old advice of testing it in an inconspicuous spot first is prudent.
Great video Brian👍🏼 I think you have taken everything apart inside your truck now🤔🤭😛😃
Ha ha 1 piece at a time.
Thanks for the video, I love the flat black.
Awesome! I was hoping you would do this. I will be doing mine next weekend and will go with the flat black as well!
Thanks for the video. Great and useful, good tips and ideas.
I got a question, where can I get those black knobs ? these are awesome!
Have a good one, I am waiting for your next post ,,,
Thanks for watching! Here's a link for the knobs: www.ajtdesign-llc.com/online-store/Climate-Knobs-c69687002
Great Video! I want to do this in my truck. The link you posted for the self etching primer shows dark green, but I can't tell if that is green in the video. Maybe my eyes are failing me. is Dark Green the color you used for the primer?
Nice. Thanks! Now to tackle those instrument panel rings. Ha ha!
It looks waaaay better!
I would have also done the guage cluster rings, but the interior looks much more modern nonetheless, especially with your head unit setup.
Thanks! I did the gauge rings in a separate vid here: ua-cam.com/video/EQQHAQGQR-s/v-deo.html
@@Tacomaholic Thanks! I'll watch it right now.
I'm considering a Tacoma TRD for the future, but I can't decide between the 3rd gen or 2nd gen.
I kinda want the 2nd gen for that 4 liter, but I want to get rid of the gray interior. Paint the dash panels, pillars, & dye the vinyl & headliner etc.
I hate gray interiors. Even tho it's a work truck, lol.
I have a 2012 blk taco and I definitely need to do this! 👍
Thanks for the walk-through on the removal. I could’ve used this when illuminating my 4x4 knob, but figured it out somehow. You thinking of illuminating your 4x4 knob?
Yeah I want to do that mod but will have to get one of my Tacoma friends to do the soldering.
Nice video always wanted to know how that came out. I'm going to vinyl wrap mine blue to match my tacoma.
Do you have vinyl wrapping experience? That piece looks like it would be a PITA to do with all the curves and openings.
I got the Basics of it. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
Where can I get those control knobs ? The link you have is for the $10 round knobs on Amazon ! I’d like the ones you have in the video
Those are from AJT Design. Here's a link: www.ajtdesign-llc.com/online-store/Climate-Knobs-c69687002
Two questions @tacomaholic
1. What year Rav4 Steering wheel is that and is it smaller than the factory wheel?
2. Did you have steering wheel controls on your original unit? If not how did you set it up?
Thank you
I go over all of that info in this vid: ua-cam.com/video/3vhCGI6moYY/v-deo.html
@@Tacomaholic ah! should have looked back - Thank you!
Will be doing this!!! Thanks!
Look great! Nice job.
Do you have a link for the yellow plastic tabs? Previous owner seems to have lost a few and Amazon has so many different ones I want to make sure I am getting the right size. Definitely doing the painting though.
I'm not sure what the part number is for them. Best bet would be to call a dealership about it.
@Tacomaholic, where did you get that 4x4 knob?
Here's a link to a 4 pack that would cover the 4x4 knob and the 3 climate knobs. Code TACOMAHOLIC5 will get you a discount too. caliraisedled.com/products/climate-knobs-2005-2015-tacoma-4-pack?ghref=6307%3A85834&
Great video, like always 👍
Im wrapping mine in orange, ill be getting red seat belts and I have yet to decide what will be in yellow but im going with the old school TRD color theme
nice job. was that a flashlight i saw in the cigarette lighter and what brand of molle strapping did i see in your bed
Thanks Kenneth! Here's a link to that flashlight ( amzn.to/3cuENaw ) and here's my review vid for it ( ua-cam.com/video/G4VlrQt3IIs/v-deo.html ). I've got a few different molle panels in the bed but their install/review vids here found here: ua-cam.com/play/PL-IN_9dyC2sCmPfOXx08_d1ku2svBZmLX.html
Hey bro... It has been a while ... But have you though of replacing the OEM radio unit?!
I'm sure I'll replace it eventually but it's not high on the mod list just yet.
Did you have any paint odor in the cabin after installing? If so, how did you get rid of the paint odor?
No but I always make sure to let any interior piece sit for a few days before reinstalling inside the truck.
Do you have a link to those AC knobs? The link you have above is to some other type. Thanks in advance!
Yeah here's the link but looks like they are temporarily unavailable: amzn.to/2JGBf9f
Brian love your 4WD transfer knob !! were does it come from ??
Thanks! It's from this set but looks like they are currently unavailable: amzn.to/2RcXSXk
Thanks Brian... found them... a good day to you sir.
It might have been possible to snake it out but on my 05 I had to take the whole gauge cluster out to paint mine.
Great video BUT the link you have listed is not for the AC knobs you have.
Here a link to the newer knobs. Looks like they are currently unavailable. amzn.to/2VawE4A
A Sooner that loves your channel. Boomer! Well done.
🤘😀
What year of Tacoma do you have?
Mine is a 2014.
Do you use any sort of matt finish after spraying the black? If not, have you noticed on any of your paint projects the paint rubbing off?
No I don't. Some kind of clear coat could be used for an added layer of protection. These aren't high traffic areas though so wear and tear should be minimal.
@@Tacomaholic thanks. I was also thinking of it on your gear shift painting vid
At 7:49 is that a bulb on the back of the 4x4 switch?
Hmm sure looks like it but I don't remember the 4x4 knob actually illuminating at night. Will have to check tonight.
Where did u get your ac knobs from
Here's a link but looks like they are currently unavailable amzn.to/3vpRs8r
@@Tacomaholic OK thank you u know anywhere else I could get them
@@joshuasimmons4979 Looks like they are in stock on the company website www.ajtdesign-llc.com/online-store/Climate-Knobs-c69687002
Great video ! I would never attempt this project . Tried today to remove 2 bolts from bed storage compartment to add D rings . Stripped the bolt heads . 🤬 I’m good at cleaning stuff 😂
Lol how did you strip 2 bolts?
Torx bit and ratchet. It was like the bolt head was soft or something and it stripped. So I carefully tightened it back up . I shouldn’t even own tools . 😂
I really need to clean my MAF and throttle body but I’m not too sure if I should attempt that
@@3lynyrd Just 2 small screws holding the MAF in. Don't strip them! 😁
😂😂😂
If your center console was black, would you paint it silver?
Lol probably. Just kidding. I just dig the blackout theme for the inside of the truck.
I was wondering I have a 2005 TRD Tacoma on the passenger side where the passenger air bag is there’s a big gouge on that vinyl panel does that piece come off or is it the whole dash piece system?
If you are talking about the area right above your glove box then the entire dash should be 1 piece.
Is that paint a better option than using Plasti Dip? Thanks! Great video!
Plasti-dip would be a viable option too.
what about the silver center by the shifter?
That piece pops right out if you want to paint it. I go over how to get it out as part of this vid: ua-cam.com/video/ybQnkHsiKgk/v-deo.html
Haha so you DID see my photo in the Facebook group huh?
Maybe ...
Just glad you made a video about it! So many people asked me to do it for people. Tried to tell em it was super easy.
what facebook is that, he and i belong to several. currently 4-5 tacoma ones currently and his personal one. just saying
Does Toyota have a paint code number for the silver trim color? I have a spot to touch up.
I think the plastics come colored like (not painted) that from the manufacturer.
Does anyone know where to find trim kits for the gear console panel? I can't find any that will fit my automatic 2015 v6 :(
Check these out: ua-cam.com/video/ybQnkHsiKgk/v-deo.html
whats the radio you got in there
Factory radio that came with the truck.
You recon using a clear coat after the paint?
Clear coat is always an option but I didn't do it with this since it doesn't really need to added protective layer.
Tacomaholic okay. Thanks!
Hey can you give the part number from Toyota I can’t find it
Yessir it's 55412-04090
Mine came black, not sure if it's a trim level thing
Lucky!
@@Tacomaholic not really, went out to look at it. my radio surround is black but i have a silver dash. and then i found a little jem when i came back in. the key tag from dealer states my color as silver.
Vaseline not included lol
Toyota wants $134 for that ... not only should you get the KY jelly but they should supply you with some kind of disposable protection as well..🥴
PS. It looks great now!!
@@markum5094 Thanks! Ha ha crazy how expensive OEM pieces of plastic are.
$134 vs. $5 can of paint, enough said
Exactly.
Nice "Sweet Project Cars" audio lol
Wait a minute 12:44 he really just say that

Um... Yah no : )
How did you get the gear shift area black?
That's a few pieces from Tufskinz covered in this vid: ua-cam.com/video/ybQnkHsiKgk/v-deo.html
