      @@MrBleworchid The park is called Shore Acres State Park. It's about 14 miles south of Coos Bay Oregon. Take hwy 540 (Cape Arago hwy) through Barview, and Charleston. It's best to check the weather and storm surge info for the best waves. But bring rain gear that's fit for high winds. And bring the camera with good dry wipes! And if you're getting hungry and you have a descent amount of money, our FAVORITE restaurant in the area is The Coach House. Steaks seafood and pasta, with the best lemon cream cake you'll ever have. Drive safe!

      @@dianatrueblood7109 Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and provide all that great info! I heard from another person that the waves have to be like 18’ or higher to get the big explosions like in the video. I’m considering driving over from Eugene next weekend but I’ll research what the waves will be doing before making the trip. Thanks again!!

If it appears that an event is imminent we drop whatever we are doing and head for Shore Acres. Again, the event is so infrequent, we if one really wants to see Mother Nature put on a spectacular non destructive event this one is a must to see! My Grandparents lived just a few miles from there on the bay where empire was. I have photo's they took in the 1940's and on and that my Dad has taken and that even I have taken all covering a huge time span..... Reflecting on that and comparing them what I find amazing is how resistant the rock and cliffs there are to the power delivered by the waves such as this year after year... While there are some changes over the 80 plus years they are far smaller then one would expect... Although I would expect sea level rise to start speeding up that process at some point. I also remember those rickety wooden stairs down some of those cliffs that used to be there around 50 years ago. Navigating those at times was a thrill in itself, on calm days of course.

    • @Seracdog
      @Seracdog  3 роки тому

      A few years ago a King Tide and a High Surf hit together and it was a great show.
      If the tide is too high, then the "splash rock" is mostly under water and the swell just mows over the rock... resulting in no explosion.
      Generally the best wave explosions occur with high surf 18'+ at mid tide.

      Shores Acres (where this video was shot) is a state park in Oregon approximately 3 miles from the town of Charleston on the Oregon coast. The large wave explosions ONLY occur during a high surf event. A King Tide is a different kind of event and does not produce any large wave explosions! Unfortunately, the high surf (18’+) needed to generate the wave explosions only happens a handful of days a year, mostly in the Winter. You could get lucky, most of the times I have seen the event has been in December

    Spectacular "ocean wave" video ..I just moved here this June, 2019 and live close to this park now. and saw this awe inspiring, tremendous moving - sceenery, in REAL life Thurs evening about 5:30pm Oct 17th . I know a song by Elton John matches perfectly to your wave action video. Try it with youtube music Elton john "Can you feel the love tonight". Turn sound off your video and start play same time on Elton Johns' song. It is very-very moving.

      I was there too! In fact we arrived at the park around 10:30 AM and watched the waves until about 5PM! They kept building up as the day on! Best free show of it's kind anywhere!

    It would have been better to watch this without having to hear people talk.

      That would be nice but unfortunately we can't shut every body up!

      @@Seracdog I went out to a very scenic site that took me hours to drive to. It is a breathtaking view of rolling mountains with multi-colored trees in Autumn. When I got there I saw an amateur photo shoot. They were being obnoxious and loud totally ruining the vibe. Nature is to be enjoyed in peace. I told them to shut up. They stopped until I was gone. This is why I like to go to nature alone or with someone who doesn't jibber jabber, like a guy not another girl. Lol

      I get it! I know exactly what you are talking about! There is an area in Arizona that is simply called The Wave... North Coyote Buttes. Fortunately, it is strictly monitored (entry by permit only) by the BLM and only 20 people a day are allowed to visit the area... thousands apply each day. It's a three mile hike to the The Wave and when I reached it the first time I felt like I was visiting Mother Natures Cathedral... I felt it was disrespectful to talk! There were some folks there from Europe yucking it up and I gave them a piece of my mind...

    No you cannot swim here. Not unless you have super powers-like flight.
