    I have constantly been getting cards of 92,93,95. My mates all say once I get ‘real’ clubs I’ll break into 80s but your videos make me realize it’s always two or three silly mistakes in my approaches that are the true reasons I choke lower scoring. Playa mindset will get me to 80 by the end of summer Im putting my word down now👊🏽

      Clubs only help when you know what you're doing and can make ok-to-good (not great) or you're excellent and want to move to forged irons to better shape shots. I play with a set of 2014 Adams XTD irons with driver plus a few 2015 Taylormade RBZ woods. Nothing special just good clubs. My friend plays with chinese knockoffs and beats me by 2-5 strokes a round

    24:26 Absolutely! Using a wedge matrix changed the whole game for me. I have comfortable shots from 50-130 yards using 4 different wedges with 50%, 75% and full swings. Using that knowledge and applying so much of your advice has made golf incredibly fun. 99 problems but a pitch ain't one!

    • @jamesd8542

      And to add to my comment... on the range, prior to my round, I prefer to practice these wedge shots to dial in the tempo instead of busting out the driver like I see so many people do. If you can make consistant contact with a half swing, the rest of your game will follow suit

      I haven't consciously done this. This was the first I heard of it, but recently I started to understand my wedges. I know my 58 is good for a max of about 75 yds, but I don't use it for that. I'll use a 75% gap or a 50% pitching wedge, depending on how much I want to limit rollout. I love hitting my 58 from about 50 yds out. It's just such an effortless 3/4 swing.

      Gotta remember that everyone only plays to their handicaps 8/20 times and everyone has shitty golf days, even the best guys, and they happen for any number of indiscernible reasons.

      Just think of it as feedback. What few things lost you the most strokes? Then go fix those: 3 putts, double chips, missing approaches in bad spots, not in play off the tree, or hero shots.
      You're either winning or you're learning, and that leads to winning.

    Short game saved my round today. 5th hole, hit the dreaded “s” shot. Lucky to be 14 yards from green. Chipped to 2 feet. Next hole terrible drive could not shoot toward green. Hit really good shot 52 yards from pin. Chipped to 13 feet made the putt for par. Next hole hit low drive that didn’t make it to the fairway. Over 200 yards out. Hit my most confidential 7W about 60 yards outs. Pitched to 20ft and made the putt. I could have given up but I just went and figured out what I wanted to do with my next shot.

    @colbyscott9822 9 днів тому

    Man, I absolutely love your videos!!! I haven't consciously employed your gamer logic, yet, but I recognize that some of it is creeping into my game play. It IS helping.
    Example, of working with what your clubs are doing that day: Last week I was hooking my 3 rescue pretty bad all day. On one hole, toward the end of the day, I was on the wrong side of the right-side tree line, but was near the end of it. I was 183yds away but the last two trees were directly in line between me and the green. So, any normal iron shot was out, and I couldn't punch out, either. I had no good safe options,.. So, I decided to see if that hook could help me out. I aimed right of the trees, choked up on the club, and put it in the middle of my stance to try knock some of hook off. Took a 90% shot. This is NOT a shot I would normally try to pull off, but given what that club was doing on that day, I figured WTF. I've never hit such a beautiful shot before. I ticked the top couple of pine needles, drew back in, and landed right in the middle of the green. That was the most excited I've ever been about a single shot. Long drives are awesome, but shaping a shot is sooooo much more satisfying.
    Also, another example of playing with what you have: I've been shanking the shit out of my 4-7 irons lately. I am absolutely going to avoid those clubs if I can, and just adapt play until I can get those back on track again.
    Also, also, I've been a 115 shooter my entire life but never put a lot of practice in. This year I have been putting in tons of work and noticing big improvements shot to shot but my score has not been improving. 100% because I'm not playing MY golf game. Last couple times out, I was more realistic about what I can do. Have two rounds under 100, now, and feeling real good about the future.
    Thank you for being real about the game. The biggest thing I take away from your videos is "You're not a pro. Don't pretend like you should game like one."
    BTW, I am one of those UA-cam training hunters. lol ...but it suits my learning style. I only listen to videos that resonate with my brain-body capabilities. Even then, I'll try a change a couple of times but if I can't execute or mentally connect to the physicality of the change, I drop it and move on. That being said, I have a lesson scheduled for next week. I am on the hunt for someone that I can connect with well.

    Your advice to hit from the proper tees is essential. I am an older American living in Austria. Here (and in most European countries) the tees are marked men and women. Golfers here think this is an immutable law and I see older men hitting drives 110 yards and playing from the back tees. Crazy. Due to my age I have lost a lot of distance (I now hit pitching wedge for shots that used to be a 56 degree wedge) and I always hit from the second set of tees (ladies). I wish I had a euro for every time I have had to explain to people here why I do this.

    Absolutely fantastic advice. I have been watching your videos for a while and there is no question you are providing great information. It is also a bit obvious to me that maybe english is not your first language so I will offer this little bit of advice. The word you should be using in your explanations is “confidence” or “Confidently”. “Confidentiality” means something different. “Confidentiality” means to keep something secret. In your explanations for example example it would be “Chose a club you can hit with confidence or you could confidently hit to your chosen target”. Hope this helps. Please receive this as it is intended to be helpful not negative. Keep up the great content. Thank you.

    Marty, thanks so much for the awesome practical and logical advice. You’re obviously an analytical type (immutable 😂); I’m keen to get your thoughts on the numerous pieces of advice out there based on strokes gained into par 5s. I e fallen for the logic trap which says you should hit your 2nd shot as close to the green as possible rather than to your favorite distance (Fawcett, Stagner et al). I’ve tried this and it hasn’t worked out, going to your method and see how it goes (to your point feedback right GF). I use Arccos.

    • @GolfSidekick
      @GolfSidekick  Місяць тому

      Because they’re talking about pros. And they’re selling you a bad bill of goods.
      But even the pros know this one thing that those killjoy happiness vampires do not tell you:
      When you go for a par 5 in two there is one rule.
      You go for it in two if YOU CAN GET INSIDE 30 YARDS TO THE HOLE WITHOUT ANY CHANCE OF GOING IN A HAZARD.
      40-70 yards is a dead man zone even for tour pros. Their dispersion in the dead man zone to identical proximity as with a shot from 80-120 yards. The number of shots that have in this zone is also minuscule because they do not want them. They all hate them.
      The 40-70 yard zone takes away all spin control and distance control.
      IF YOU CANNOT GET INSIDE 30 YARDS WITHOUT GOING IN A HAZARD, YOU SIMPLY LAY UP INTO THE FAIRWAY (VERY IMPORTANT IT MUST BE FAIRWAY) TO A DISTANCE YOU LIKE BETWEEN 80 AND 110 YARDS.
      these people are not in touch with the average golfer. Fawcett and decade are for pros. Stagner sells arccos. They spout ‘average’ of the ‘average’ golfer because we all feel like we fit into the ‘average’. They love having the appeal of the authority figure.
      Know YOUR GAME and play YOUR GAME. These people do not have your best interest at heart. Only you do.
      This is and always will be a game of knowing ourselves, not comparing to others because we have no field, introspection, playing to our strengths and thinking screw everyone else and their opinions

    The way of The Playa is HARD. I don't mean that it is hard to do, but it takes time and you have to be willing to do it for all 18 holes every round. Not getting into bunkers or ponds are obviously huge mistakes that can lead to higher scores but you have to be willing to play from the hole back to the tee box to keep you out of those obstacles.
    Yes, it means you need to know your limits and how far you can reasonably hit each club in your bag. Not the one hero shot that you had from 200yds a very long time ago. Honestly, I like being around 140yds as that is money for my 8 iron, so I try to play that from the tee or my second shot on a par 5. Sometimes this means hitting driver but sometimes it means hitting a different club.
    Also, there is no shame in not getting a GIR on every hole. You need to make sure that you are hitting the club(s) that won't get you in trouble and give you confidentiality to score well. That doesn't mean you will always get par but when you no longer have double bogeys on your score card, you are heading in the right direction.

      So true. I have been watching MBB for 4 years. Superb for how to approach the game. Slipped back into the habit of just hitting it forward.
      Better thought = Better scores
      BUT very hard to do it for 18 holes and hard to do it in today’s round and the next round and the round after that. I am working on the discipline

      This is such good advice. I wish I took my lessons earlier. There are two things in "play" during my golf round. 1st is my golf swing - which never benefitted from any UA-cam video. 2nd is navigation around the course, which I really enjoy watching this channel for. Have learned a lot. I had a decent rebound in my last round. The rule of the go to club paid off because my driver went wild and had to drop down to my 5w. Made the holes longer (obviously) but I had a chance for up/down par putts vs first putt being for bogey because I was catching up from playing back from out of bounds.
