18~ handicap golfer. Shot an 82 yesterday. Best round I’ve ever had. Damm it felt good. Stopped thinking so mechanically, just felt the turf, copied my practice strokes, gauged the putting pace perfectly, great bump and running, and hit ALL fairways when driving by simply pausing a split second at top of back swing. All in all, probably a little bit of luck, great advice from the Baus, and a great attitude throughout the round.
I am a 20+ index golfer who would very much like to be a 10. I've only been playing golf for a few years, but I love the game and work hard to improve. Thank you for continuing to emphasize the importance of course management, having a plan and sticking to it. My game is improving and I credit your videos. Thank you!
55 years young and a fairly new golfer. I choose to listen to Golf Sidekick’s videos. They have helped me relax and play smarter. I’ve gone from never breaking 100 to my last three rounds - 97, 95, 90. I’m believing I’ll score in the 80’s soon.
I almost never comment, but I have to thank you somehow. 31 handicapper. Broke 100 a few weeks ago and shot a 91 last week(playing from what they call the ladies tee), following your videos on how to break 100. I found my rough distances with each club in order for me to plan each hole. I did ZERO practice, except for one of the drills you recommended, putting from within 1 meter, aprox. 3 feet. Apart from that, within 100 yards I just told myself «get it on the green». Thank you.
I’m usually a 90-95 shooter. After applying this man’s course management, eliminating my ego from my game, purposely choosing my clubs to avoid hazard and set myself up for a wedge or nine from fairway shots my last rounds were 89,87,85 AND 83! Best advice on UA-cam
Matt, I am 65 and resumed golf 2 years ago after a 16-year hiatus. I started watching your videos a couple of months ago. My handicap was 20.5 when I started using your technique. I had only broken 90 once (an 87 in the summer of 2022). I have now played 15 rounds since employing your teachings. My last 2 rounds were an 89 (44/45), and yesterday's 86 (46/40). I had 8 pars yesterday and 7 - 1putts. My handicap has dropped from 20.5 to 18.5 since I have been following your advice. Thank you!!! You're a great coach and mentor to me and many others out there! Cheers from Granbury, TX!!!
After watching your breaking 100 strategy series I finally did it yesterday and broke 100 by 6 strokes. Shot a 94 at a 7200 yard course with 6 pars!! Hit a little cheeky toe down 7 iron chip and holed out for a par ;) Next step is 20 to 10 handicap :) thank you for everything you do brother !!
if you've never broken 100 before yesterday, what are doing playing 7200 yards? well done on the 94 but jeepers creepers you're doing things the hard way, play the forward tees and it'll be more fun and your confidentiality will increase
I’m currently a 22.5hdcp, and you couldn’t be more right about where I lose strokes. Off the tee, chips and putts. My last round I had 7, yes 7 three putts. Your toe down chipping technique has really helped me, and also trying to avoid hazards by picking a club that won’t reach them. I do however, have troubles sticking to my plan. Especially if I hit a bad shot, or I get rushed. Really lose the confidentiality when that happens.

@@GolfSidekicknormally my putting is not that terrible. I just played yesterday again. Not one three putt. 16-2putts and 2-1 putts. And I had a few lag putts that were 40-50 feet away. I struggle more so, inside 5 feet. Definitely going to practice putting and chipping more. I feel like I can drop my scores into the high 80’s by cleaning up a few strokes. Shot a 91 yesterday. Last week I broke 90 for the first time. Shot an 89. Hoping to see at least one round under 85 this year. I started golfing a year and a half ago. I’m in my early 40’s, I’m getting a late start. But I am totally obsessed now. Thanks for the great tips. Love your videos.
Ode to Playa: Thank you, Matt, for this and so many fantastic videos. I’ve been being schooled in ‘The Way of The Playa’ for 3 weeks now, as the passion has come back to play after about 16 years away from the game. Years ago, I played to a 4.9 and my goal this summer was to break 80. That’s where you come in. 91, 88, 87 have been recent rounds as I started to practice: GIOTG, 1,2 & 3 foot putts at home and at my course. Toe down pitching wedge practice, and taking more club - these have been the biggest focuses I’ve been working on, and yesterday I shot 84 with 2 ‘stroke and distance’ OB shots, so I’m knocking on the door of my goal already - because of your shot suggestions and course management ideas. Golf has taken on a joy that I’ve never experienced and it’s because of the ‘Wisdom of the Playa’ Thank You!! I wonder if you have thoughts for subscribers on playing balls that are more forgiving on mishits? Some tour balls really penalize distance, side spin, etc., when not hit pure, and other balls are much more forgiving. 🎉 thank you so much Matty Baus Baus. I just shot 77. Why am I telling you? 1. I’m telling everyone. 2. This is the video that got me there. The goal posts and the club selection to get to the BACK with a good strike revolutionised my pre shot routine. Thank you.
I stumbled across your channel a few days ago and very glad I did! I was an avid golfer 20 years ago, getting to a 4.9 index at the course I was a member at for a couple of years. After being away from golf 2 decades I have the fever back and joined a local club. I’m back to breaking 90 as of last week, but this video and your putting p video is giving me the ‘confidential’ that I will be able to achieve my goal of breaking 80 again, thanks to your instructional videos. Thanks for these, from all of us!
Your videos are great! Your approach keeps the inevitable bad shot to just one bad shot, and not the beginning of a series of bad shots. For the next shot, you just focus on using a club with a reliable distance to a save target. Relentless course management.
Shot a 89 after seeing your breaking 90 series 3 days ago. The mental strategy and approach is so on point . It brings the confidentiality to the game playa !!
Watching this channel has given me video proof that safe approach shots and chipping proficiency is far more important than distance and even hitting the ball straight. I went back thru my Arccos app and discovered that my scores went from 104-98 to 94-88 when I started watching and rewatching these videos. While my distance dropped from 194 to 177 avg (not pulling out driver or fairway woods as often), I dropped to -0.9 shots gained for distance but accuracy is now +O.8, penalties went from -3 to -1, but approach went from -3.3 to +2.5 when I began playing away from trouble and short game went from -2.4 to +1.2 when I stopped trying shots too hard for me and instead focused on GIOTG. Being told and being shown are too different things and that’s what makes this channel GOLD.
Watched all your videos and making a huge difference. Amazing how not using driver/3 wood on any holes means low 90's/high 80's 8/10 rounds versus 95-99 almost every time. Now to eliminate 3 putts and I am gold.
Played a round with our club champion the other day and he put me on to your channel. I've meanwhile devoured hours upon hours of your content and already dropped my average from 105 to around 90. In just a couple of weeks. Highlighted by my short game and putting which only improved a bunch because i play smarter approach shots. Thanks Matt!
26 handicap here, just shot a +5 from blues on a full size nine hole that I play weekly. Previous pr there was +10. Had 2 3putt holes 🤦🏽♂️ but hit 5/7 fairways, 5gir with 5 pars. Hit the green on both par 3s. This channel really makes me see the game differently thanks Matt and happy swingin playas
Dasit playa. Welcome to the par 3 eagle club And now you have inspired me to create a medal for playas if they can prove they made a hole in one. You will be the first to receive one. I’ll have it made and you’ll get the first, playa. Should take 4-5 weeks to produce
@@GolfSidekick OMG!! THAT WOULD BE SO INSANE!! i WOULD BE SO HAPPY! I was just looking at trophies online to keep my ball and they honestly all kind of suck, you could make something amazing, you have excellent taste and i would be HONORED!!
Last year my normal score was around 94, this year combining meaningful practice" short game wedge skills" with your course management mental game strategy I'm hitting 84 regularly. And making much better club choices on the holes. Thanks for your pointers.😁❤
Over the winter, I spent a lot of time working with a coach on my ball striking. I went from hitting a 155 yard 7 iron that would fade/slice to a 175 yard 7 iron with a baby draw. The result of this was lowering my handicap by 2.5 strokes and it took me 6 months of work. Changing my mindset from hitting a 7/10 shot to a 9/10 shot has lowered my handicap by 4 strokes over the last 6 weeks and still improving as my confidence and commitment keep building. It is easy to convince yourself that distance is what makes you a better golfer. I hit the ball as far as an average scratch golfer but that does not make up for 3 triple bogeys a round. I leave my long clubs in the bag most of the time. I hit mid irons constantly because I can fully commit to the shot. I am on my way to a 10 handicap not because of my distance but fully embracing the system.
What lowered my handicap the most was lots of practice on short game. Pitching, chipping and putting. Sure, all of my friends can outdrive me, but within 100 yards I wipe the floor with them.
Agree. Currently Im a 19 hcp. Been working alot on short game. Just played a par 3 all holes inside 136, and shot 4 over par. Hit 15 GIR. Short game is the scoring game!
@@sandramaier2781 That is awesome! I live near a 9 hole par 3 course (holes range from 86 - 210 yards) that also has a 9 hole pitch and putt course (holes range from 40 - 80 yards). I try to do each course 3x a week.
Absolutely! I can get the first 500 yards of a par 5 in 2 strokes. The last 10 yards take 3 more for a disappointing par. I imagine you get 425 with your first 2 shots and get the last 85 yards with 2 strokes for birdie. We would make great scramble partners!
You make a TON of sense, Sidekick. I'm loving your style. You got mad skillz and are enjoyable to watch / listen to. And I love the laughs you inject along the way :-) Keep these great videos coming!
i love that you took into account poefie shots, every now and again n vat or top the ball. My game has improved a lot with all the advise, getting it to the green has become easy, just putting that has no feel yet. Thanx from SA buddy
I’m around that index and I hit mostly draws, especially with irons but simple enough on my end to adjust the advice to my shot shape. Great video and for the playas, sticking to the plan is paramount!
To be honest players, all the planning in the world and course management can’t overcome poor ball striking. The difference for me when I was a 20 and now a 7-9 is I don’t duff or fat shots often and barely 3 putt. My dispersion is still not that great, but I’ve really minimized dumb mistakes. Especially around the green.
Yeah bang on I got down to a 9.2 handicap simply from following the way of the playa but also playing so much my ball striking became crisp. Now I'm playing less and rely on my short game to bail me out. Handicap has gone up to a 13.8. I've gone from almost breaking 80 to mostly struggling to break 90.
An initial putting lesson to make sure the ball goes where you think it'll go was so key for me. Told me that my "all lined up" was significantly left, and that my body was compensating by trying to push it, so things were all askew. Once I got a reliably way to line it up, I could correct my putting stroke. Only once I could trust that, could I start to build up my experience with distance control. And for me the shortcut is imagining myself rolling the ball underarm, and then feeling that same pace in my putt. Has really transformed my putting
Great timing, I'm handicap 20 with goal to reach hcp 10 this year. Currently I lose 3 balls per 9 holes due to inconsistent strike. This morning I sent my first Swingtweak, can't wait for their advice.
After making every 3-4 ft putt I had today, since I practice them judiciously as you suggest, I handily picked up around $150. Still maybe a bit more. It made a difference as people will usually miss a few of those. This channel gives you good practical advice that will take strokes off of your game.
I am a 16 handicap and last round I hit 9 greens in regulation. I only played an 89 though. I played 9 Pars and 4 bogeys. I was 10 over through 14 holes and my iron shots felt amazing. I lost one ball and needed to take two unplayables. I also had four 3-putts without a single 1-putt, which was a bit frustrating. There were two holes that really messed up the score. I played an 8 on the 7th hole (Par 4) and a 9 on the 17th hole (Par 5). I actually had terrible back pain the days before, so I swung super relaxed, which worked out exceptionally well. I only hit the ball half a club shorter than usual. I play to rarely though. This was the fifth time playing golf this year, so I cannot complain. Had a lot of fun during that round. I wish I had more time to practice. Not easy when you live in a big city and don't own a car though.
Thanks Playa!!! Great course management advice, as always, right here. My index has been coming down steadily over the last 2 months, all thanks to you.
Super helpful video Baus Matt. I’m still at a 26 HC but I can take this info and improve my game plan. Going back through my stats also to see where the weak spots are. (Double and triple bogies of course) but looking at my short game results as well. Thanks again!! 👍🏻
Just found these videos and am seriously imperest. They should be played on a loop at every golf club bar. It might stop my 20+ Andy Cappers pals swearing and losing the cool dude vibe after hitting an 80 yrd shot into the middle of the green just because its 20ft from the pin while i'm saying "hay man, nice shot". Disk ka plyn is the hard part, every now and then i just have to give it a crack just for the fun of it...not in a match though, steady eddie then. Well done on getting the message out there...we are not Pro's
Extremely good advice for high handicappers. Having a go to shot shape is great adivce for all handocaps, just look the the PGA and LPGA pros, they're usually hitiing the same shot shape 95% of the time. Many excellent ball strikers have a fade, they just know yow and when to hit a draw. Cheers
These videos got me down to a 10 handicap, now comes the di-sci-pline to keep lowering it. A trick I've used to help me remember the shot shape of uphill/downhill lie is if you drop the ball on the slope, the direction the ball rolls is the path your shot will travel.
The whole concept of the field goal has worked wonders for my confidentiality, especially with how I’ve been inconsistent with my shot shape. If I at least hit it within the field goal, I don’t complain, I don’t want for anything else, I take it and move on!
I tried visualising the field goal and hitting a fader, so much less stress and much less trouble than trying for a draw that hardly ever works! Oh and the titties to the target on chips really works . I'm a 19 handicap now, the goal is down to 16 this season 💪
LMAO - "Disk-i-pline" ! I wasn't reading the caption so when you said disc-i-pline I thought you were prescribing a new medication LOL. Then I gave it some more thought, and you *were* prescribing a medication. Thanks for the reminder, Matty. I'll take a double dose - Wadda playa!
Your use of the world "ambulance" made me laugh way too hard and I appreciate you for it, I needed that today. That aside, your advice has helped me tremendously on the course, allows me to love the game even more.
I have a natural draw but haven't aimed closer to a "field goal post" along the fairway edge/rough line like you've shown w/your "fader" on the first tee you demonstrated (aiming on the starting line - ahhhh!!!!). I'll definitely give this a chance next round and not fear aiming like that. (I over-hook to the opposite side rough way too many times aiming too much into the fairway at address), but the rest of my game is mostly decent. If I can get more tee shots in play I'll definitely break 90. Thanks playa
The way you explain and execute your shots looks so simple and logic. The goal will be to keep your tactics in place and stick to the golden Waddaplayer rules. If all comes right and together we get down and down from our average golfer handicaps. We follow our chief Waddaplayer adviser and become real golf hero’s. 😂😂😂
Scored a 45 today, used a bit more strategy I learned from your channel.. I have to clean up 3 putts and learn to not fight my mid iron shot shape (fade).
Absolutely love your advice. One note for those of us OCD freaks -- it's confidence/confident/confidently -> not confidentiality (means keeping a secret).
Don't bother, when I first started watching the video's I made the same comment...he knows exactly what he's saying and how he says it...all part of his appeal...
@@GolfSidekick It's not a pronunciation - it's a different word/meaning entirely I'll just shut up and deal with my OCD screaming during your videos :)
No breakout moment today. 😕 Still got a 90. Putting practice showed up though - only two 3-putt holes. More chipping practice required. Gonna take another lesson i think to gain more confidence with my 5wood and hybrids.
Every player has their own scratch score to thrive for. If they can’t reach 10 holes in reg then their scratch score is now 10 and would be an excellent round if they achieve that 10 over. It’s all about short game and playing tee to green as good as possible.
My son tried to get me interested in DISC ipline GOLF and I summarily DISCmissed it as frisbee nonsense. Now I see that DISC I Playan is the way to go….way of the Playa… Boom Boom 💥 💥
Thanks for all the help, and I do share your videos all the time with buddies... I'm your ambassador! My question is for the tee box and field goals...for a fader - setup on the right side of the tee box and for a draw - setup on the left side of the tee box? This is what I've been told, but I would love to hear your thoughts, baus! ⛳️
I'm on this journey and have set myslef 5 rules to follow: 1. Get tee shots in play (dont chase distance, just get it on the fairway) 2.Play the percentage shot, i.e. the one I can do 70% of the time. 3. Inside 100 yards just GIOTG. A long putt is preferabe to a short chip or bunker shot 4. Avoid bunkers at all costs 5. Concentrate on all putts and try to read the green (I cant do this very well) Dropped from 21 to 16 and trending to improve further......
I think the biggest thing for me personally is to stay relaxed and not try to hit the ball too hard - swinging free and easy. Broke 90 yesterday for the first time in months by staying calm and taking it easy.
I need top 3 tips for going from an 11.7 to a 9! My ultimate goal is to be single digits someday. In just under two years, I went from around 17-18, to an 11.7. I think single digits will be the hardest to achieve.
The big difference between a 20 HCP and a 10 HCP will be in the GIR +1. Having been on that journey I changed my focus from GIR to GIR + 1. 20 HCP will hit 10 GIR +1 (around 55%) 10 HCP will hit 15 (85%). All the things you talk about add up to this key stat IMO. Being in play, avoiding poor position GIOTG, some models skill from bunkers and no hero shots etc. Your shit does work.
Easiest way to do this is to practice your irons and putting. Either hit iron off the tee or don’t duff your second shot. Consistency with irons even if you can only hit 1 shot shape. And putting. Get good enough to never 3 putt. Consistent iron into the middle of the green, first putt gets you close within 3 feet, and if you need a second putt you sink it. Most courses in America if you are playing from the correct tee’s you can reach a par 4 in 2 shots so you just need to avoid the 3 putt. And even if you make bogie, you make up for it on the par 3’s and 5’s where you can get on the green with a chance at birdie with consistent iron play.
As someone that plays at an 8 handicap, playa is right. You don’t have to be perfect as long as you stay focused and thoughtful about the course. And practice your short game.

after following this i played my best round ever, 92 shots at 24 handicap!
BOOM
Keep going playa
Got my first hole in one today playa!!! 147 yards, tucked left pin over water downhill, perfect baby draw 9 iron lets GOOOOOOOOOO
Dasit playa. Welcome to the par 3 eagle club
And now you have inspired me to create a medal for playas if they can prove they made a hole in one.
@@matthewrmusarra "you have excellent taste" said no one ever 😆
@@sandramaier2781 then why are you still a 19 hcp?
Absolutely! I can get the first 500 yards of a par 5 in 2 strokes. The last 10 yards take 3 more for a disappointing par.
I imagine you get 425 with your first 2 shots and get the last 85 yards with 2 strokes for birdie.
We would make great scramble partners!
@@joshuat7171 I love playing scrambles for that exact reason.
Text on 18:50 is hilarious. Video is very entertaining (and meaningful). No-nonsense youtube content. Well done.
Yep. Well said.
Yes of course but that is always implied. But no video will fix that so i do the next best thing
I tried that Shot Pattern app. Very promising stuff! Finally an app for planning, not just re-living the painful past.
Love these videos giving us real and useable information with awesome entertainment as well
The new Padraig Harrington from handicap 36 to a single digit in a year :D ,love your work playa!
Great timing, I'm handicap 20 with goal to reach hcp 10 this year. Currently I lose 3 balls per 9 holes due to inconsistent strike. This morning I sent my first Swingtweak, can't wait for their advice.
This man is a pimp and a playa for 1000 years.
I just purchased the Red tiger Rangefinder from amazon. I love it thank you.
After making every 3-4 ft putt I had today, since I practice them judiciously as you suggest, I handily picked up around $150. Still maybe a bit more. It made a difference as people will usually miss a few of those. This channel gives you good practical advice that will take strokes off of your game.
I did it! I'm a 68 year old man and I now a 9.9 index and I generally have 2 putts.
DISC CA PLAN! 😆😆😆 YAY thank you brother! The video is very helpful
I've lined up my 9 outta 10 shot, established my uprights for the field go...and now only 28 more putts down the fairway to the green! Thanks, Baus!
15 to 5 handicap video soon
Belee dat
The whole concept of the field goal has worked wonders for my confidentiality, especially with how I’ve been inconsistent with my shot shape. If I at least hit it within the field goal, I don’t complain, I don’t want for anything else, I take it and move on!
I tried visualising the field goal and hitting a fader, so much less stress and much less trouble than trying for a draw that hardly ever works! Oh and the titties to the target on chips really works . I'm a 19 handicap now, the goal is down to 16 this season 💪
This was a great clip. Very informative and yet practical. I will be screen shoting clips with the data for reference. Thanks
Had my first golf lesson and the coach said I was standing too close to the course 😢
Funny ... I'm gonna steal that. 😂
The best golf tutorials on youtube. Top notch geez.
Great episode! Looking forward to the new disc-e-plin wedges in the store soon! ⛳️
"the best place to start your short game is on the approach shot" - damn thats some gold right there!
All good advice , thank you for the encouragement
great videos, been following for a while now and im down from 22.3 to 15.8 in 6 months, more work to do though ,keep up the great content
Hit my first round with one ball yesterday and it felt amazing! No lost balls and ten strokes under avg.
Your use of the world "ambulance" made me laugh way too hard and I appreciate you for it, I needed that today. That aside, your advice has helped me tremendously on the course, allows me to love the game even more.
Ambu-lamps
I have a natural draw but haven't aimed closer to a "field goal post" along the fairway edge/rough line like you've shown w/your "fader" on the first tee you demonstrated (aiming on the starting line - ahhhh!!!!). I'll definitely give this a chance next round and not fear aiming like that. (I over-hook to the opposite side rough way too many times aiming too much into the fairway at address), but the rest of my game is mostly decent. If I can get more tee shots in play I'll definitely break 90. Thanks playa
Thanks Oogplesiertjie.
Ha, I need this man as my caddie to talk me out of trouble! great content as always!
Started in November as 26 , down to 20 thanks to your mindset Matty boom boom❤
The way you explain and execute your shots looks so simple and logic. The goal will be to keep your tactics in place and stick to the golden Waddaplayer rules. If all comes right and together we get down and down from our average golfer handicaps. We follow our chief Waddaplayer adviser and become real golf hero’s. 😂😂😂
Love the driving data!
I just broke 50 for the first time, I always make sure to keep it confidential on the course! Thank you boyfriend!
Great video - clear message and very well demonstrated
Just think of Matt saying “Like a Baus” before every swing and your handicap will go down
Lol even bots 👍 golf sidekick
Scored a 45 today, used a bit more strategy I learned from your channel.. I have to clean up 3 putts and learn to not fight my mid iron shot shape (fade).
“It’s only boring if you hate scoring” 😂 love it mate!
Absolutely love your advice. One note for those of us OCD freaks -- it's confidence/confident/confidently -> not confidentiality (means keeping a secret).
Someone hasn’t been watching Sidekick video 😂
Don't bother, when I first started watching the video's I made the same comment...he knows exactly what he's saying and how he says it...all part of his appeal...

@@GolfSidekick It's not a pronunciation - it's a different word/meaning entirely I'll just shut up and deal with my OCD screaming during your videos :)

Ordered the red tiger… prime day plus a $10 coupon, got it for $83. I like it, good choice.
One of your best , thanks Sam
Matty Boom Boom, perfect timing on this video. I'm playing tomorrow... wish me 🍀.
Now I see that DISC I Playan is the way to go….way of the Playa…
Boom Boom 💥 💥
2:18 Brilliant way to think about distance vs. accuracy.
Set up on level ground first priority
Second priority is right side of tee box for fade.
Thank you! Solid advice...@@GolfSidekick
I'm on this journey and have set myslef 5 rules to follow:
1. Get tee shots in play (dont chase distance, just get it on the fairway)
2.Play the percentage shot, i.e. the one I can do 70% of the time.
3. Inside 100 yards just GIOTG. A long putt is preferabe to a short chip or bunker shot
4. Avoid bunkers at all costs
5. Concentrate on all putts and try to read the green (I cant do this very well)
Dropped from 21 to 16 and trending to improve further......
Boom
20 handicap, shot +7 on Sunday. Biggest change was keeping it in play and limited it to only 1 double bogey
BOOM
Waddaman
Matty has a very smooth controlled swing. Yet hits the ball a mile. I should probably slow down my swing
Thanks for improving my Italian. Giotg!
Greatest golf video for real golfers
6:48 omg 😂 😂
Another great video keep up with the good work
I went from 22 to 7.8 in one year by sticking to the way of the playa. Much more confidentiality by sticking to the shots I know I can hit.
This is giving me confidential
Putt w/hybrid through the apron is MONEY 4 me. 😀 scrambling
I think the biggest thing for me personally is to stay relaxed and not try to hit the ball too hard - swinging free and easy. Broke 90 yesterday for the first time in months by staying calm and taking it easy.
Yes sir exactly. There is never a need to hit the ball hard. Well done playa
Just the video I need. What a baus.
I need top 3 tips for going from an 11.7 to a 9! My ultimate goal is to be single digits someday. In just under two years, I went from around 17-18, to an 11.7. I think single digits will be the hardest to achieve.
as always another great video good sir!
Boom
Thanks im 15-17.5 at moment this might help, thnx playa❤
