I was a volunteer up at Warcop for many years before relocating for work. Seeing this loco starting to come back to life is amazing to see, especially given how the outlook was when I last saw her. All the best and that reminds me, I really need to get back up there for a visit!!
Well done, worked on these for over 40 years. Your fuel looks contaminated though. Make sure your turbos are serviced. Drain oil, remove round covers and wash out sludge, check free rotation and refit covers and fill with fresh oil. Check for air intake fractures and exhaust blows . Also remove intercooler drain plugs, you will find that a goo may come out but don't panic.
Criminal that it was allowed to fall into that state of repair - and big kudos to you guys for bringing her back. I look forward to seeing her at a Diesel gala some day 👍
My brother rented the 'planeing shed' as a unit in the old Vulcan Works at Newton-le-Willows for many years before the works' sad demise and demolition. I used to walk through the other sheds on occasions, in awe of their sheer size and importance in history. In the engine testing shed, there were dozens of Napier Deltic (I know that isn't a Napier) injectors lying around. Some were clearly used but many of them still had their tags attached and look like new stock. Sadly, I never seen any use in them and, after I had moved on and the buildings were demolished, I would imagine the injectors and LOTS of gear wheels (possibly timing gears (?), new and used) were probably thrown in the scrap skips😥😥 Great to here the old girl running again. Keep up the good work👍🏻👍🏻
wow where has this split box tractor been hiding for all this time! I ain't seen 37042 for a longtime it was in the 1990s at Bescot t.m.d in Wolverhampton near Birmingham! keep up the good work bringing this beast back to life as i love a claggy tractor as they're one of the best locomotives that BR ordered of E.E English electric in the late 1950s to late 1960s + they're one of the biggest surviving locomotives still in existence in 2024 as from 327 locomotives built there's still about 107 still around on heritage railways in storage or still in use +a few are still on the mainline!!! 😍🤩🥰👏👏👏
Wow, seeing how dark the fumes are really shows how long it has been without the loco running running. Must have felt amazing to finally get it started up again.
Congratulations. My excitement is great when i get an old motorbike running. Yours must be 100 fold . Well done to all involved. Got to love an EE Split box ❤ 😁👍👍
"042" Growling her way back to life! Saw her a few times in her EWS days growling her way around Southern England! All the beautiful Clag! And such a beautiful Sound the "Tractors" made

Excellent work guys and great to see this beast alive again. Hopefully that's gonna silence all the doubters and haters who've never achieved anything near to what you guys have. Well done guys.
Whilst I am a fully committed steam fan, I do have a genuine soft spot for a Class 37. It is the only diesel on my 32' x 10' layout, which sounds incredibly realistic. You guys are doing a fantastic job bringing it back to life. You have my full admiration.

Marcus did the 'starter button' & I've a bit footage of that to share. I did spin it over a few times on the local start at the engine side which was nerve wracking. I.
I love seeing the process of getting to the startup attempt even more than the startup itself. The thought of this equipment being parked and abandoned bothers me. I understand the economic reasons behind it, but seeing otherwise functional equipment being allowed to decay just feels wrong.

I love seeing these old diesel dinosaurs come back to life but the one thing I've never know is how do you actually turn the engine over to get it started in the first place. There must be a huge electric motor and battery bank to get the crankshaft turning to get it started. I do understand that there is a decompression of the engine to help with initial start up.
Diesel electrics have the diesel motor that turns the generator that makes the power for the traction motors. But they also have a neat feature: when you put electricity into the generator, it turns into an electric motor. So with a healthy wad of battery juice, you turn the generator into a motor and voilá, one enormous starter motor :)

I am lucky that this came up on my feed because I love big old school diesels, reminds me of fast boats of the 80s.

Probably something in the 30-50 gallon range taking a wild guess lol
