I think the trouble with Soucek is, he was the right man at the right time when we were facing a relegation battle. He's gritty and gets stuck in and no one can argue with his work rate.
However as our squad has improved over the years with more technical quality players coming in, it makes Soucek look sub par in comparison and he is being asked to play a more technical style which he simply cannot fulfil at this stage. At times, he struggles to complete a 5 yard pass and doesn't really offer anything going forward in the centre of the park. I think he would be good as a super sub to shore up a lead or as a box crasher. He is a clinical finisher, I just feel West Ham as a club have outgrown him unfortunately and if we want to push on, we need next level players. We will always be grateful to him, he is a top bloke.
Top bloke for sure! But sadly, we have indeed outgrown him… when he arrived we was a team battling relegation and we’ve come a long way since then.
It’s just really frustrating watching him play at times, but can we really blame the guy? JLo, like Moyes, is continuing to play him. I can only think it’s the things we don’t see (like how hard he works in training) because it doesn’t take a genius to realise he isn’t suitable for “possession based” style of football. However having said that,I do genuinely think he has something to offer and I feel like he will have a few moments this season where he comes in clutch.
Soucek is the least of our worries and still an integral part of this squad. Doesn’t deserve the disrespect he gets. Great vid mate!👊🏽⚒️

Great video on Soucek. He is what he is and if deployed correctly, can still be a force for WHU. His teammates all seem to love the guy and in his own way is one of the hardest guys in the league. I remember when he got red carded against Fulham and that big striker Mitrovic, who drew the foul, went out of his way to apologize to Soucek after the card was given. Never saw that before or since. LOL
Thank you! And 100% he can be a force. He is loved by teammates and others because he is just a great person, I think its easy to see that and he is likeable in that sense. I never knew that about Mitrovic, but again is just a testament to his character.

He doesn't deserve to be starting based on his abilities and performances. Yes, he MIGHT nick a goal in the final minutes, but for the rest of the match, he is invisible.
He is obviously a very nice guy and was the perfect fit in the moyesball system at the time. But that time has gone, and we have much better options that deserve his spot.
Exactly! The pay off just isn't worth it because another player could provide more throughout the game and allow our other players to shine.
Hopefully he doesn't start today but am not convinced tbh, I feel like Lopetegui will still play him.
You know what's funny? The treatment Soucek is getting from West Ham fans mirrors what has recently happened in British politics, especially concerning Brexit.
For some reason, people stopped appreciating hard work, and honesty. Yes, the Poles and other Eastern Europeans may have not spoken perfect English and had brought their own culture, but they got the job done, and never really tried to create problems. Ultimately the Brits really needed them, even if they didn't realize it. They did the jobs ordinary Brits didn't want to do - the menial jobs - construction, drivers, care workers, nurses, etc...
The Brits got tired of hearing the Polish language, started following the poisoned words of Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson and decided to vote "leave" in the most unprecedented referendum of the 21st century. And I think most of us would agree there is enough evidence now to see that this was a massive mistake.
I see a parallel to the way West Ham fan content creators have been speaking about Soucek influencing the fans' opinions and slowly driving him away from the club. He's a player who will give everything for the shirt. He literally bled for you guys so many times, he did the dirty work. He's not the prettiest in style, but that should not be the most important value as long as there's a bigger picture. Football is a team game. Don't get blinded by the Paquetas who only care about themselves. You can't only build your team on moody technical magicians who will probably leave for a better club at some point anyway. Learn to appreciate hard work. Soucek brings so much to the team. His style is just not pretty. That's all. It's the same in the Czech national team. He's the captain. Some people can't stand him in the national team, too, but he's a true warrior and I always thought those are the kind of values the Hammers subscribe to, but not anymore.
Thanks for the video. I hope the UK rejoins the EU and West Ham fans including the person who made this video realize that Soucek is a real gem and definitely not a "super sub" material. He's not injury-prone at all and has amazing running stats, he's useful in both boxes and has a knack for scoring goals. Football is not only about passing and flicks and tricks. It's a much more complex sport than that.

Haha I am surprised you even noticed that to be honest. I use a text-to-speech system and it was difficult getting the pronunciation of Soucek correct. I will need to updated the subtitles to make sure its correct, thanks for pointing that out to me.
Never realised people would watch with subtitles, I could do the next video with proper captions/subtitles.
But yeah, thats just the way things are these days. It needs to stop to be honest, and he should be viewed in the same way we view some of the other 'cult hero's' we've had play for us.

@@user-FEFe Thats exactly right! And it is so frustrating to get it right. I obviously want it to be as best as possible. Although, text to speech software is proving quite difficult and expensive, I am considering using my actual voice. Would love to know what you think?
