Hi Everyone, We hope you enjoyed our video! Are you thinking about towing a car behind your motorhome? Full disclosure...we were a bit nervous! But it has been so easy and stress-free using Blue Ox. Please say hello by leaving a comment below! Also, please feel free to ask any questions or just tell us about yourselves. We want to get to know you and share our RV experiences.
You're welcome and thank you! We are so glad you found our Blue Ox video helpful! Thank you for watching and letting us know. We appreciate your support!
Hi Mike, at 9:15 one suggestion that I use is to replace one of the bolts from your license plate with an eye bolt. Then connect your emergency cable to the eyebolt.
We just had a blue ox installed and we had never used one before. Your video was a game changer for us , very well presented. We have the same blue ox as yours. Thank you so much!!! Jerry and Barb Red Deer Alberta Canada
Thank you so much Jerry and Barb! We are so happy we could help you with your Blue Ox tow bar setup. Being able to tow a vehicle makes a big difference. Thank you for watching our video and letting us know how helpful it was! ❤️
You're welcome! So glad you found our video helpful! We were a bit "nervous" in the beginning but Blue Ox is so easy, we love it! Thank you for watching and commenting. We appreciate your support!
Nice video you guys, so you've extended your hitch on the "A" I'd say go ahead and extend the electrical cable ( get longer) and get a safety cable. Next thing is you said you put the Jeep in neutral. Hopefully you're putting the transfer case in neutral if the Jeep is automatic transmission.
Thanks for the great video! We will be towing for the first time this weekend with the Blue Ox, Air Force One braking system attached to our ‘24 Wrangler! I installed it all myself, it takes a little mechanical ability, electrical experience with cars and help from UA-cam University! It was fun getting it all completed and now I have a better knowledge of the entire system. The battery charging wire can be purchased for about $70 or you can build it yourself for around $20 with an inline fuse, a diode and some 12 gauge wire from an auto parts store.
That’s awesome that you were able to install it all yourself. You are a true DIYer! Which is perfect in RV life...gotta be a fixer! You need to make a video about this! Thank you for watching our Blue Ox video and commenting. We appreciate your support! Safe travels.
Let us know how it goes. How hard and long did it take you to install yourself? May I ask you what you bought, where you bought it and apex price? thank you We will be towing a wrangler JKU 2016
Hi Mike had the blue OX install professionally and wasnt told about removal pins on base plate , Thank u much on that tip them Lil tips. I did add the blue OX guard to protect the front end of my jeep for peace of mind easy to connect to bar.
Hi Ric, Glad you like the tip about the removable pins! And I think we will order the guard too...just to be on the safe side...We just camped on a gravel pad for 4 days and we spit some gravel when we were on the highway...yikes. Thanks for your tip too! Mike
Very good video! As was referenced in other comments, where you connected the breakaway cable to your Motorhome is just fine. You connected it to the hitch frame not to the hitch receiver assembly. The hitch frame is either bolted or welded to your Motorhome chassis. It’s not likely to come loose. If something were to fail it would be the pin that holds the receiver into the tube or something connected to the receiver. Even if all of that assembly was pulled away, the breakaway cable is “upstream” of all that fastened to the hitch frame and would stay in place allowing the breakaway cable to pull out of the Jeep baseplate and apply the brakes. You are good to go as you are in my opinion. Thanks for your efforts!
For the break-away lanyard: I drilled a 1/4” hole through a bottom license plate hole, through the bumper, and installed a stainless steel eye bolt, with washers and lock nut. Now I can easily hook up the little orange lanyard to the VEHICLE, not the hitch assembly. Easy Peasy.
@@RVBlogger totally true… I have become a pro at hooking and unhooking due to my inexperience of driving a 33’ class c. I have gotten into stuff spots and had to drop the Jeep reposition the rig then rehook .. oh the joys of learning to drive a big rig 😉 thanks again for your post.
Thank you for this video. This weekend we are going to flat tow our jeep for the first. I will surely refer to your video for direction. Surprisingly, we also live in MD.
You are welcome! 👋 hello neighbor! Best of luck to you, you got this 💪! Thank you for watching and commenting. We appreciate your support. Safe travels!
Really glad we came across this. John and I just purchased the blue ox tow bar and patriot brake. We'll be using the Maximus 3 instead of the blue ox base plate. Just looked better and could accommodate the winch better. Great video Mike and Susan.
I bought the Stay-and-Play braking system for my Wrangler. It is hidden, always in the Jeep, and works very, very well. After I've hooked up the tow bar system, I just go into the Jeep and flip a switch from OFF to ON - that's it!
Thank you very much for your video, it was very informative. I'm buying a Class A and everything you said will really help me. Safe travels and God Bless.....
Hey Mike and Susan! Ya know, y’all are a cute couple. Just wanted to get that out of the way. These are great tips! Especially for folks like me who are new to this sorta thing. Appreciate it y’all!! ❤️💜💚
@@RVBlogger We have owned our 2014 model since it was new - I do most of my own repairs and service if you have any questions about slides, hydraulic jacks, tanks, you name it. Charlie and Phyllis
You're welcome! Towing our Jeep has made such a difference for us. We traveled with a 24' Class C for years without a "toad" and much prefer being able to have a vehicle we can explore with. Best of luck to you! Safe travels. Thank you for watching our Blue Ox video and commenting. We appreciate your support!
Great video and it was great you showed how yo put up the blu ox and the break away cable. Where you hooked it too was good. I would unhook the jeep too going down a dirt road. Just to be safe. Have a great rest of the week and see you soon! Safe travels.
I have used the Blue Ox for a couple of years and really like it. I do have problems with the lights on my Jeep not always working and I have to fiddle around a bit .One word of caution that you probable should have mentioned is that it is almost impossible to back up more than a couple of inches with the vehicle attached as the follow vehicle will not back in a straight line and will jacknife. This is from the voice of experienec and the end result was costly to me with damage to both vehicles and a bent arm to the Blue Ox tow system making it worthless and I had to buy a new unit. Incidentally, on that particular trip, I connected and disconnected the tow bar 8 times for different reasons.
Hi Frank, I should have mentioned the DO NOT BACK UP warning in the video... Thanks for bringing it up here...maybe some others will see it and read it. Sorry you found out the hard way! Thanks for watching! Mike
We will have the Blue Ox installed this coming year. Great video thanks for the review I now have an idea what to expect. One thing I noticed is that you stood between the RV and the Jeep as she was pulling up to the RV. Not sure if someone in the comments have said anything, but that is not a good practice. I have hauled horse trailers and flatbed trailers and things can go wrong.. brakes fail or drivers hit the wrong pedal, either way not a good outcome. Enjoying your videos and again thanks for the review of the Blue Ox. I am looking forward to being able to bring our toad with us.
Thank you for the kind words and the great tip! We are so pleased with Blue Ox. Super easy to hookup and unhook. It has been a game changer. Safe travels! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Here's a few more tips, For the breakaway tether on the coach side, I used a 900 lbs pull strength cable with eyelets that attaches to the chassis frame on the coach and that right under the hitch. Also I recommend using hitch stabilizers on the hitch to the drop receiver and one on the drop receiver to the tow bar, this eliminates any movement and chucking that occurs when traveling.
Great video… pretty much confirmed going with the blue ox. Not sure if it’s different for the JL vs JK wrangler but if you put transfer case in neutral instead of transmission (keep it in park), you can keep the keys with you instead of the Jeep… and it’s the recommended flat towing method in accordance with the manual is what I was told.
So glad our Blue Ox video was helpful to you. We absolutely love it and it was a game changer for us and our travels! We do keep our keys with us instead of in the Jeep. Thanks for watching our video and commenting.
One advantage of having the car-trailer combo is dropping the TT and the car is free to use. So except for the extra step of hooking up the WDH it's a much simpler process. It is good information for the undoctrinated, as usual. Keep the rubber side down
Thank you! We love being able to tow the Jeep behind us. We didn't have a toad with our Class C and it was inconvenient at times. Using the Blue Ox system is so easy and fast and we feel very safe. Thanks Stan, as always for your support.
I thought you were going to hook the breakaway cable on the rooftop ladder on your rig, which shows you how much I know about towing…. Someone already said that where you clipped the safety line is fine, so enjoy your RV and have fun!
Hi Robert, I didn't even think of the ladder at the time! I think its a great idea. All I need is a longer cable. Thanks for the great idea and thanks for watching! Mike
I am all for step by step how to videos. Is there a way to check your brake lights if you’re by yourself? And if you’re by yourself can you tell by that little lever on the tow bar arm that the second arm has extended fully Incase you don’t have that second person walking along side of the car to make sure it snapped into place
Hi Debbie, Hmmm...this is a really great point. Susan and I are stumped...maybe a mirror on the back corner of your tow vehicle to see the lights and you could use a rear back up camera to watch the second arm click into place. Ours usually clicks in 2-3 seconds but you may need to drive 50-100 feet to get straight before it locks. Thanks for watching! Mike and Susan

Just found your channel via a video from NRVTA. Good video, sound advice. Regarding the drop receiver, you could have just installed a small lift on the Jeep. C'mon, you know you want to... ;)
For safety brake disconnect cable suggest dill and tap into side of tow hitch down drop and install a threaded eyebolt w lock washer beneath to latch into
Hi Thomas, Thanks for the suggestion. I think that you aren't supposed to connect the safety brake cable to the tow hitch in case the entire hitch fails and falls off the rig. Hope you have a great holiday season! Mike
We installed a backup camera on our Class C so I imagine you could do the same here. The first tow bar we physically make happen from outside when hooking up but we do "feel" when the second tow bar lock from inside the motorhome. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting Terry!
Hi Jerry, The Blue Ox tow bar set up for EVERYTHING was about $4300 including tax and then the baseplate and wiring install was around $700. Thanks for watching the video and glad you liked it! Mike
Great video. We just bought a small class C and I'm shopping for a subcompact toad. We like the Mini. Your thoughts on the fact that Mini doesn't recommend but people still do tow it flat?
Our thoughts are...If Mini doesn't recommend flat tow than I wouldn't. You wouldn't want to do anything that would void the warranty or if there was an accident the insurance wouldn't cover the damage. We have a blog article from our website that might help search a better tow option. Thanks for watching and commenting. rvblogger.com/blog/cars-flat-towed-behind-an-rv/
What about homing that breakaway cable to your ladder? Idk maybe that would ruin your ladder? But that would be the least of the issues if you have full detachment.
Tip: Install rubber mud flaps on the back of the RV to prevent rocks from hitting the Jeep. Tip: instead of pushing the jeep back to lock the bar, simply connect the bar then tell your wife to back up to lock the bar. Then connect your cables. TIP: connecting and disconnecting does take some planning. I don't recommend your brake system, as it adds another step to the process that's a hassle if you're disconnecting every time you camp. The RoadMaster Invisibrake costs more, but it's so much easier since you don't have to install and remove the brake system each time, and store it somewhere. Too much hassle IMO. TIP: Do not buy the 10,000 lb tow bar! Everything is heavier and bulkier, harder to use, not to mention it's more expensive. The 6000lb Alpha is fine for the Jeep. You should NOT be towing anything heavier than 6000lbs with a gas RV motor. If you've got a DP, that's another story, if your pulling a pickup, or something over 6000lbs, but I bet you never will. It's really best to tow a small car to lighten the load and make it easy to maneuver around parking lots, and campsites, plus being easy to park in front of the RV in your campsite.
Hi Tom, Thanks for all the great tips! I don't agree about backing up the Jeep to lock the tow bar because if you're not careful you could damage the tow bar or the baseplate. Definitely appreciate the feedback! Mike
Thank you! So glad you liked our Blue Ox video. I don't believe you can flat tow a Jeep Compass so we never gave it much consideration. Thank you so much for your support!
Thank you for your video. We just got the same system and are pulling our 2021 Ford Escape Hybrid. Two questions: 1. Where are putting your eBikes now? We have a hitch behind our SUV but are not really comfortable with them being there. 2. Do you know when exactly you would use the remote that comes with it to put on the car brakes? Thanks again. This is the first video of yours I watched. Looks like I will have to check some others out now.
Great Questions! We put our e-bikes on the back of our Class A. We use a dual hitch along with a Thule Bike rack to make it all work. I'll include some links so you can see how it all works. We use a dual hitch and our Blue Ox Tow Bar goes into the bottom hitch receiver and out Thule Bike Rack goes into the top receiver. Here are the links so you can see both of these items: Dual Hitch Receiver: amzn.to/3NXngg4 We needed a dual hitch with a 2" drop to ensure that our tow bars are as level as possible. You may need more or less than 2" but the idea is to be sure your tow bars are level and on the bottom hitch receiver. Thule Bike Rack: amzn.to/3pRNUix The Thule Bike Rack goes into the top receiver and has held our two e-bikes with no issues for thousands of miles. I suggest getting the top receiver 6" high or more (I think ours is 8") so you have room to stow your tow bars without having to remove the Thule Bike Rack to do so. The Blue Ox Tow Bar swings to the side when stowed and if there isn't enough room between the hitch receivers it won't work. We also bought a good bike cover to keep rain and dirt off of the e-bikes. Our first cover ripped but the second cover we bought has held up for thousands of miles. Here's the good bike cover we bought: amzn.to/43vj4Ko As far as braking goes the Patriot Brake System is not a remote control system. It has a pendulum inside it and it sits inside the jeep and connects to the brake. When I hit the brakes in the RV the pendulum in the Patriot Brake Controller swings forward and causes it to apply the brake in our Jeep. It has a sensitivity setting from 1 - 10. I usually keep ours at a 2 but I set it at 4 when driving on steep downhill grades. You can set it on the fly because there is a control module that sits on the dash in your RV so you can easily change it while driving. Hope all this helps! Mike
Good video. We had ours installed this week and posted our video showing dealer walk through. We have the same issue with the emergency break away. Have you found a solution in last year?
Thank you! No didn't find a solution, just kinda taking our chances lol. We think you'll love your Blue Ox tow system - we sure do! Thank you for watching our Blue Ox video and commenting. We appreciate your support!
That's awesome. Would you be interested in giving us your review after using for a month, for our blog update? (mike@rvblogger.com) We would love to hear from you. Thank you for watching our Blue Ox video and commenting.
Hi Ginger, I think the ladder is a great idea. It seems pretty secure. Gonna need a longer cable - looks like another Amazon delivery will be on the way! Thanks for watching! Mike
I'm very curious to see how it will handle in towing conditions. Seems like it can tow 2,000-3,500lbs depending on which model and a driving range of 370 miles before re-charge, but that will definitely be less in tow mode. So I will definitely stay informed. Thanks for watching our Blue Ox video and commenting!
Wow, just wow! Exactly what I was looking for. We just bought a used Jeep Wrangler 2021 4WD 2 doors and have the Blu Ox system installed today (with the Patriot brake system). We will get it back this Friday and will tow it behind our Dynamax Isata 3 Class C RV for the first time. But I do have 2 important questions: 1. What are you doing with the transmission on the Jeep side? According to the Jeep owner's manual, the transfer case must be set to Neutral (N) and the automatic transmission should be in Park (P). Is it right? 2. If you are in a situation where you have to move back (reverse) with your RV, can you do it or you have to first disengaged the Jeep from the tow bar? Many thanks again Mike and Suzan for the great video. Well explained and well done!
Glad you like the video and I'm sure you will love towing your Jeep with the Blue Ox system! Two great questions: Question 1: Yes the manual is correct. Once you get your transfer case into Neutral then you place the automatic transmission into Park. This is exactly what we do with our Jeep. Here is the procedure: 1. Turn on engine and put transmission into neutral 2. Turn off engine and put transfer case into Neutral 3. Turn on engine and place transmission into Drive and then Reverse to ensure the transfer case is in Neutral and disengaged 4. Put Jeep transmission into Park and turn off the engine Question 2: Never Ever back up with your Jeep connected to your rig. If you have to back up you need to disconnect your Jeep first. We have had multiple RV techs and mechanics tell us this same info. There are definitely others who will tell you it is ok to back up a little bit or if you install some special part it will enable you to back up but we prefer to play it safe. Thanks for watching and enjoy towing your Jeep!!! It really is a game changer that will enhance your RV camping experience. Mike
We are getting ready to buy a wrangler to tow with our class c. What was you total cost to get your jeep to the towable point? If you don’t mind answering. Thank you for this great video!
You're welcome! Don't mind you asking at all. To have the base plate and wiring installed on the Jeep to get it road ready for towing was $750. Our installing included the "trickle charge" to make sure the Jeep battery doesn't die while in tow mode. Feel free to ask any questions. Thank you for your support!
You can add a 2200ld "D" ring to one side of your bumper to connect your break away cable Also, putting your jeep in neutral does not leave your accessories on. If you're leaving your accessories on that's because you did that. If you have a key, turn it off. If you have the push button. Turn it off.
Hi Frank, No you can't add a D ring to your bumper. The breakaway cable is wired into the Jeep braking system so if the Jeep breaks away it will stop. I'll have to look into the accessories issue. Thanks for the info. Mike
Hi Patricia, She's leaning a little to the passenger side so we were thinking Eileen! But we haven't landed on anything yet. Any suggestions? And thanks for calling us your favorite couple! Our neighbor called us that a few weeks ago and the other neighbors got jealous! But she had a few drinks in her so she got off the hook... Thanks for watching! Mike (and Susan too!)
Good Evening Mike and Susan. When I first saw your new Class A, I have mention naming her Chancellor. But whatever you guys picked it will be cool. Love you guys always. Have Blessed evening.
In the green box at the bottom towards the end of the video I noticed it says never backup when connected to TOAD, so I started to wonder if that means you can not backup while towing?
Correct - we can not back up while towing our Jeep. So every time I hit a gas station it's a game to see if I can land us next to the gas pump without the need to back up. I've only gotten into a jam once or twice in two years where we had to unhook so I could back up.
Big question for the whole flat tow and invisabrake community. We bought a USED 2017 Sport Unlimited from the local Jeep dealer. Had a RV tech install the Blue Ox and invisabrake just recently. [Jeep is not under factory warranty]. So we had a oil/ tire rotation scheduled included a issue with brakes thst existed prior to invisabrake install, we wanted to review prior to a road trip. The DEALERSHIP refused to even look at the brake issue. They stated UPGRADES unless original Jeep parts or Mopar- they will not do any work including if you change the wheel rims. Have any Jeep owners run into this refusal to work on their jeeps? It just blew my mind - seeing all the new jeeps on the lot and knowing a jeep is one of the most customizable vehicles. But maybe it's just me.
Wow! Sorry to hear about your experience. We haven't had an issue...yet.🤞Hoping someone that reads this may be able to help or lend insight. Thank you for sharing. And thank you for watching our Blue Ox video and commenting. We appreciate your support!
So it turns out that our brake light does work, but when the Jeep is connected to our motorhome it does not. I'm pretty sure this is because the wiring setup is meant for two tail lights - not three.. Thanks for noticing and bringing it to our attention. Mike
Why, does no one ever address the issue of the locking steering wheel and how to take care of the issue. I have a 2017 Durango AWD. I would like to know what to do about the locking steering wheel
I pocked around the Google machine and you are right - not a lot of info on this subject. Maybe we will write a blog article about it. Stay tuned! If you are on our email list you will get emails every week with our latest blog articles and UA-cam videos... Thanks for watching! Mike
One possibilty for a towed vehicle to sway is that the front tires are slightly out of alignment which can cause a wobble or sway effect. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Blue Ox has several styles of tow bars based on your towing needs. Then there are other accessories like braking system that are additional. Bars, alone, begin around $750. You can find the total cost based on your needs on the Blue Ox website. Thank you for watching our Tow Bar video and commenting Alan.
Every state is different. We recommend a brake controller all the time. We use the Patriot brake controller and it's very easy to use. Thanks for watching!
No. You can not backup while you are connected to your tow vehicle. Which means stopping at a gas station requires careful strategy. Thank you for watching our Blue Ox video and commenting Mike.
I have 2018 Wrangker with Blue Ox. I am going to be using it for the first time tomorrow.! Can you please tell me how to set the inside of the jeep. From what I have researched, it says, put the four-wheel-drive system in neutral the transmission piece in park.. I’m not sure about is do I need to have the key in and accessory position so that the steering wheel moves freely. Any comments would be appreciated!
Why do you hate the Patriot 3 brake system? Does that mean you'll trailer tow vs flat tow? Thank you for watching our Blue Ox video and commenting. We appreciate your support!
@@RVBlogger It just seems weird to me, I have towed on a trailer for 40 years, I was hoping they would come up with a better system for flat towing braking. I will continue towing on a trailer, there is a simpler system out there I am looking at.
If you're running a 7-way plug from the RV to the tow vehicle, it has a wire already that is hot. Meaning it has power coming from the coach. You would just need to connect from the plug to the battery I would think!
Hi William, I can't find a good video on the subject - looks like we have a new video we will need to make! Thanks and hope you have a great holiday season! Mike

That is a great option. Thank you! We appreciate your support! 💚💛
Great info that I hadn't thought about.
Thanks for the information....we're looking to do the same thing...searching for a jeep!
Hi Sherri!!!
Glad you liked the video! We always look forward to your comments!

Mike and Susan
Hi Frank,
I should have mentioned the DO NOT BACK UP warning in the video...
Thanks for bringing it up here...maybe some others will see it and read it. Sorry you found out the hard way!

I too have a blue ox, I use a external solar charger to charge my truck while towing.
I have not seen that setup but it sounds like a great idea!

Hi Casual RVer,
These are great tips! I'm gonna check out the cable and the stabilizers.
Thanks very much!
Mike
What about to your ladder? Can you connect the break away cable to your ladder?
That’s what I was thinking hook it to the ladder
Hi Nicole!
Why didn't I think of that?
Thanks for the idea!
Mike
Just bought our Blue Ox. Can you back up if you get in a jam?
Great video… pretty much confirmed going with the blue ox. Not sure if it’s different for the JL vs JK wrangler but if you put transfer case in neutral instead of transmission (keep it in park), you can keep the keys with you instead of the Jeep… and it’s the recommended flat towing method in accordance with the manual is what I was told.
So glad our Blue Ox video was helpful to you. We absolutely love it and it was a game changer for us and our travels! We do keep our keys with us instead of in the Jeep. Thanks for watching our video and commenting.

Where you hooked your breakaway cable is the proper place you are never going to lose that part of the hitch
We figure that too. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Get an eye bolt that fits in your license plate bolt hole of the RV to hook up your breakaway cable.
Hi Kent, That's a great idea!
Thanks!
Mike
Hi Robert,
I didn't even think of the ladder at the time! I think its a great idea. All I need is a longer cable.
Thanks for the great idea and thanks for watching!
Mike
@@RVBlogger
Hey Mike….
Before trying that, make sure that ladder is strong enough to be an anchor point for the safety cable….
I am all for step by step how to videos. Is there a way to check your brake lights if you’re by yourself? And if you’re by yourself can you tell by that little lever on the tow bar arm that the second arm has extended fully Incase you don’t have that second person walking along side of the car to make sure it snapped into place
Hi Debbie,
Hmmm...this is a really great point.

For safety brake disconnect cable suggest dill and tap into side of tow hitch down drop and install a threaded eyebolt w lock washer beneath to latch into
Hi Thomas,
Thanks for the suggestion. I think that you aren't supposed to connect the safety brake cable to the tow hitch in case the entire hitch fails and falls off the rig.
Hope you have a great holiday season!
Mike
I wonder how many ever test that break away cable, to see if it actually applies the brakes in a non emergency situation?
Great question! Sure hope they do! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@9:47 - You can always hook it to your ladder! Isn't it long enough?
I'm not sure the breakaway cable will make it to the ladder, but we can buy a longer cable.

What if you're traveling alone. Are there cameras you can use to make sure wheels are all turning, and the tow bar locks on both sides.
We installed a backup camera on our Class C so I imagine you could do the same here. The first tow bar we physically make happen from outside when hooking up but we do "feel" when the second tow bar lock from inside the motorhome. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting Terry!
For the wheels, just put a little chalk line on your tires and drive for a second. You will know if the wheels turn.
Thanks for the great info. How much did your whole setup cost? Installation as well. Thanks
Hi Jerry,
The Blue Ox tow bar set up for EVERYTHING was about $4300 including tax and then the baseplate and wiring install was around $700.

What about the ladder for the break away?
That is an option we have considered. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Lol, a ladder screwed into fibreglass end cap? That’s going to end well!
@@markb9241 The breakaway is fairly sensitive and should come out before the ladder pulls out imo
What about homing that breakaway cable to your ladder? Idk maybe that would ruin your ladder? But that would be the least of the issues if you have full detachment.
Attaching it to our ladder is certainly an option. Thank you for watching our Blue Ox video and commenting!

@@RVBlogger Your welcome
Hi Tom,
Thanks for all the great tips! I don't agree about backing up the Jeep to lock the tow bar because if you're not careful you could damage the tow bar or the baseplate.
Definitely appreciate the feedback!

Been using Blur Ox since 2018
Great testimonial! Thank you for sharing that information. And thank you for watching our Blue Ox video and commenting.
Just subbed based on this nicely done vid. Any thoughts on a new Jeep Compass?
Here are the links so you can see both of these items:
Dual Hitch Receiver: amzn.to/3NXngg4
We needed a dual hitch with a 2" drop to ensure that our tow bars are as level as possible. You may need more or less than 2" but the idea is to be sure your tow bars are level and on the bottom hitch receiver.
Thule Bike Rack: amzn.to/3pRNUix
The Thule Bike Rack goes into the top receiver and has held our two e-bikes with no issues for thousands of miles.
Here's the good bike cover we bought: amzn.to/43vj4Ko
As far as braking goes the Patriot Brake System is not a remote control system.
We just installed a Tow Defender to prevent rocks from hitting the front of our toad

What about the controller that is in the RV? Nothing was mentioned about setting that up for braking force and pairing the controller to the Patriot.
That's true. I didn't cover that. So what would you like to know about it?
What about the ladder I don't know how the ladder is attached good luck .
Hi Ginger,
I think the ladder is a great idea. It seems pretty secure. Gonna need a longer cable - looks like another Amazon delivery will be on the way!

What say you about towing the new hybrid wrangler?
But I do have 2 important questions:
Two great questions:
Question 1: Yes the manual is correct. Once you get your transfer case into Neutral then you place the automatic transmission into Park. This is exactly what we do with our Jeep. Here is the procedure:
1. Turn on engine and put transmission into neutral
2. Turn off engine and put transfer case into Neutral
3. Turn on engine and place transmission into Drive and then Reverse to ensure the transfer case is in Neutral and disengaged
4. Put Jeep transmission into Park and turn off the engine
Question 2:
Never Ever back up with your Jeep connected to your rig.
Mike
Many thanks again. All set now! Blue ox, baseplate and Patriot installed… and ready to go!
@@NanouDub that’s awesome! Enjoy and safe travels!
You can add a 2200ld "D" ring to one side of your bumper to connect your break away cable
Also, putting your jeep in neutral does not leave your accessories on. If you're leaving your accessories on that's because you did that. If you have a key, turn it off. If you have the push button. Turn it off.
Hi Frank,
No you can't add a D ring to your bumper. The breakaway cable is wired into the Jeep braking system so if the Jeep breaks away it will stop.
I'll have to look into the accessories issue. Thanks for the info.
Mike
Good evening my favorite couple. What did you decide to name your class A? You guys have safe travel.
Hi Patricia,
She's leaning a little to the passenger side so we were thinking Eileen!
But we haven't landed on anything yet. Any suggestions?
And thanks for calling us your favorite couple! Our neighbor called us that a few weeks ago and the other neighbors got jealous! But she had a few drinks in her so she got off the hook...

Thanks, not sure if it was the lighting but it appears that your tire mounted third brake light is not working on your Jeep.
Hey Staff
We appreciate the info we'll check it out!

So it turns out that our brake light does work, but when the Jeep is connected to our motorhome it does not. I'm pretty sure this is because the wiring setup is meant for two tail lights - not three..
Thanks for noticing and bringing it to our attention.

what causes the vehicle behind to sway.
One possibilty for a towed vehicle to sway is that the front tires are slightly out of alignment which can cause a wobble or sway effect. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Wondering how much this system cost?
Blue Ox has several styles of tow bars based on your towing needs. Then there are other accessories like braking system that are additional. Bars, alone, begin around $750. You can find the total cost based on your needs on the Blue Ox website. Thank you for watching our Tow Bar video and commenting Alan.
Do I have to have the brake hookup if my vehicle is under 5000lbs in the USA

We have a 2020 Jeep Wrangler.
Hate the brake thing, I will continue with a trailer.
Where can I get info on charging tow vehicle battery from coach hookup?
If you're running a 7-way plug from the RV to the tow vehicle, it has a wire already that is hot. Meaning it has power coming from the coach. You would just need to connect from the plug to the battery I would think!
