"There were Dragons when I was a boy" is the very first line of the How to Train your Dragon books, where Hiccup is narrating the entire story to his children.
And it is a great children's series by Cressida Cowell and I highly recommend the audio-books read by David Tenant. Very different from the movie but amazing just the same
Some of us actually did grew up with the franchise, for me the tv series and the movies. I say the tv series because, even if the story and animation isn’t perfect, it shows the character personalities very well and see how the movies actually kinda link (even if some bits were left out), and you actually see them grow up between seasons (also since the tv series is canon, we technically did grow up with them).
It was nice until the last movie destroyed everything the previous movies worked for. The entire message was thrown away and in its place put the message "just give up when it's too hard" Toothless was no longer a friend in 3, they had to start making the characters treat him like a pet with no freedom. After all that gaslighting from astrid its no wonder hiccup thought he wouldn't come back and went there himself. All the progress he made was erased in an instant, and when the dragons come back next time people would have better weapons and most likely attack them because they knew absolutely nothing about them (the most recent series relies on lucky plot to avoid this). The ending of the last movie did nothing but destroy the goal hiccup had, when he hadn't even run into a wall. He went "wah there's always going to be someone super bad like this guy" and gave up when literally every big villain he encountered had some kind of obsessive beef with him or berk itself. In the end Grimmel won and achieved everything he set out to do.
Your should read the books then! 😀 Get more of the fun! Cressida Cowells 12 novels that are the inspiration for these films are great in themselves and tell another fun story. And for some extra fun, listen to the audiobooks narrated by none other than David Tennant! It's a different story of course but still great and loads of fun. 😃
When i watched it for first time i cried so hard. Such a great trilogy, all parts are amazing and creators knew when to stop making sequels. Great reaction
@@OfficialMediaKnightsYou guys really should watch the Various Tv Series. The Riders of Berk, and The Race to the Edge. There are also small mini movies that fill in the gaps. The animation for the various TV shows is also top notch, especially considering the smaller budget available. Enjoy.
That “save him” makes me emotional everytime matter a fact the whole ending of this movie always does! Absolutely adore these movies so much and the ending with all the kids! 😭
One thing that I believe the producers of this sequel did on purpose: Grimold's build is much like Hiccup's. Also, in case you missed it, he also said that he first caught a night fury when he was a boy and killed it. In other words, Grimold is Hiccup if he had chosen to kill toothless when they first met.
WOW, you guys resumed this trilogy a lot faster than I thought😂. Can’t say I blame you. One of those rare moments where a franchise comes to a wholesome ending without being dragged out for more than it needs to be
@@OfficialMediaKnights Especially when someone like me has sifted through the franchise, christmas specials, 8 seasons of TV, the payoff and easter eggs mentioned in this third and final film is even sweeter ❤
The ending made it feel like "oh yes, dragons are real, they're just hiding from the world" so canon not just in movies but also irl somehow. I love it.
My husband & I took our kids to see this in theatre in 2019, & our kids fell asleep while my husband & I sat there bawling like babies! It is such a bittersweet end to an amazing story!!
When Hiccup while making the new tail for Toothless, Astrid says “You tried this once before, he didn’t want it.”. Astrid was referring to the mini Christmas film *The Gift Of The Night Fury* where Hiccup made Toothless a new tail that didn’t require his saddle but Toothless refused. Grimmel is also a “What If” version of Hiccup if he killed Toothless in the forest in the first movie right then and there. You can definitely see the similarities between them. Both have a deeper understanding in dragons than anyone else, both are inventors and crafters. If Hiccup did indeed bring the head of a night fury to Berk, he would’ve been praised and thus could’ve gone on a similar character arc just like Grimmel. The death of Grimmel was literally foreshadowed at the beginning of the movie! When the riders get back to Berk after being sloppy at a mission, Valka says “Perhaps you rely too much on your dragons and not enough on one another”. Grimmel relied on his Deathgrippers to complete his objectives which caused him his downfall but the riders worked together without their dragons to take down the fleet.
Oh we gotta check out the christmas film you mentioned so we can understand these references! It's so cool that they showed the love and respect to include those references in the movies!
One of my favorite film series of all time, of any kind. All three have great stories, characters, music, and beautiful visuals! I didn't want it to end, but it was such a perfect ending that I couldn't be sad about it. Thank you for covering this series, it was a wonderful journey!
I cry every time I watch this movie. This trilogy is a 10/10, and this series is always going to be my favorite. Also, please watch the shows if you haven't already. The amount of new dragons and exploration in the world is worth watching. Great reaction, and keep up the work!
To clarify night furies and light furies are not the same species just similar,it is kind of like how tigers and lions are similar enough to reproduce but still different.
Kinda, but not exactly. Lions and Tigers are closely related enough to produce a hybrid, but those hybrids are infertile themselves. As much as the 9 Realms sucks, it does confirm that Toothless and the Light Fury are significantly more closely related. Both Light Furies and Night Furies are likely subspecies of a larger Fury species.
A good message for all young people too and one I think is slept on a bit, is what it actually means to be a leader. Too often in Disney films the message is more about letting go, running away to tread your own path, doing what you really want to despite what others think, etc. this movie has all of that but then ties a bow of realism to it with the emotional complexities of love and loss and where determination really comes from in life. Such a good message for young men and young women.
@@OfficialMediaKnightsthere are actual two holiday shorts. They are both good. One is between movie 1 and 2 and has the tail part. The second one is just before the epilogue of the third movie. It has the kids in it, very cute. You should give them a watch they are like 20 minutes.
Aww, I always get so emotional in this movie! When they have to say goodbye to their beloved dragons it hits so hard- that is true love, to say goodbye to the dragons for their safety.
These movies are so well made, and it shows the life journey of Hiccup and Toothless in a wonderful way. You just can't beat these films, or this story. Awesome final reaction to an amazing movie series! ❤

I think as far as trilogies go this was one of the best. When you watch this you are not audience, you are a Berkian yourself living the journey. One of the best accomplishments in cinema hands down. Next recommendation is Beautiful Mind. You two will go nuts for it.
I remember when my oldest sister and I went to see it in the theater the moment she saw the lightfury she squeezed my hand so hard from the excitement.
The thing about this villain is he's basically Hiccup if he followed through will killing Toothless. A man who hunts dragons not with intimidation or brute strength but using his head and technology.
You almost never get to grow up with your favorite characters in animation movies.. the fact that they offered the audience that possibility makes it even more special ❤great reaction as always guys
The series of movies was amazing and brilliant. From story to music. And the cast, big adjustment for the actor Jay Baruchel for the voice of Hiccup. From being the smartest person in the movie TROPIC THUNDER. Job well done.🎉🎉🎉
I watched this movie for the first time today and I cried my eyes out . I waited as much as I could because I didn't want to part ways with this trilogy. This one and Kung Fu Panda are my favourite animated movies ❤ ❤
I think what really hits me is that i can definitely see Hiccup becoming another version of Grimmel had he killed toothless. Think about it, he wouldve killed a night fury something that no one had seen on berk besides it blasting buildings and that validation from his father that he always wanted would encourage him to push harder to kill dragons and since he is already a master craftsmen you can only imagine how quick and efficent he would ve become turning hiccup into this dragon killing boogeyman
Well, Grimmel is Hiccup’s evil counterpart and an evil counterpart is the evil equivalent of a protagonist with similar skills and a similar background to the protagonist, but with small differences. Unlike Hiccup, who couldn’t bring himself to kill Toothless, Grimmel killed a Nighty Fury where it slept when he was young. After that action made him a hero in his village, Grimmel decided to kill every last dragon. Like Hiccup, Grimmel relies on his intelligence and his Deathgrippers whom he treats lap dogs and drugged them into obedience with their own venom. However, Hiccup learned to become more independent and not always rely on Toothless. Something that Grimmel never learned and it was one of the things that led to his downfall. Even though he never really cared about his Deathgrippers, Grimmel did relied on them so much.
Toothless can disappear like that too remember? That's exactly why no one knew anything about a night fury before Hiccup . I think he stopped doing it because his new tail could catch on fire. I think that's why he turned back to check . There's another small part . Sort of an epilogue. It ties up Hiccup & Astrid's wedding scene & the reunion scene .
I was 28 when I saw this and I as well as every other adult in the theater were crying their eyes out just as hard as the kids. There is no reason to not include the How To Train Your Dragon trilogy among the greatest movie trilogies of all time.
I love your reaction to this trilogy, they are my all time favorite movies for sure. I appreciate how you guys covered so many of the amazing qualities of this movie and the others! You guys are the best!
Icelandic singer-songwriter Jonsi (of Sigur Ros) doesn't get enough love and respect for his contribution to this series. He contributed original songs for ALL THREE movies, but in this one he gave us a little extra, co-composing the Hidden World sequence cue with John Powell and also contributing his own vocals to it as well. It's such a beautiful addition to one of the most spellbinding sequences I've ever seen in an animated film.
i criedddd when they let go their dragons, because literally I grew up with them. I was in 2nd grade when the first movie was out, and when the 3rd movie comes out I was in high school:(
In case you're curious about "he didn't like before" tail upgrade thing Watch the christmas short movie of how to train your dragon Where hiccup created the tail that he can use without the pilot
This one is my favorite of the trilogy! It has such a huge message for both Hiccup and Toothless and is so heartfelt and emotional. I can’t watch this movie without crying. I’m so glad yall loved this series!
So so true - the trilogy is so mature and heartfelt, and we are so enamored with this world! Thank you so so much for joining us on this journey! On to the next!
There is actually a short movie called Homecoming, it happens before Hiccop reunites with Toothless where we see more of Hiccop's kids and Toothless's babies I really recommend Race to the Edge it happens between the first and the second movie, and we see a lot of the stuff Hiccop has in the second movie and of course, new dragons, even Dragons mentioned in the first movie in the book Hiccup was reading
Did I just cry AGAIN with this movie because of you reacting to it? Yes. Absolutly. I love this ffing heartbreak movie so much. And thank you guys for watching them and enjoy them.
Having watched all the seires and mini specials in between the movies made them saying goodbye hit me much, much harder than any of my friends.😢😢😢 I never missed an episode when it was airing on Cartoon Network and then binged the whole other series on Netflix within the first day. It's such a great franchise. I can't wait for the Live Action tbh. I have hopes, but i am cautious
@@OfficialMediaKnightscan you please watch Dragons: Race to the Edge. It take place between 1 and 2. There is also Dragons: defenders of berk, which takes place between 1 and the race to the edge
I love the whole series of “How to train your dragon”, I also loved your reactions to watching it for the first time. I also want to recommend the movie “the guest” from 2014. It is truly underrated.
Grimmel was definitely a well-written main villain. He’s basically Hiccup’s evil counterpart and an evil counterpart is the evil equivalent of a protagonist with similar skills and a similar background to the protagonist, but with small differences. Unlike Hiccup, who couldn’t bring himself to kill Toothless, Grimmel killed a Nighty Fury where it slept when he was young. After that action made him a hero in his village, Grimmel decided to become a dragon killer and kill every last dragon. Since Grimmel is the reason that Night Furies faced near extinction and left Toothless the last of his kind. Like Hiccup, Grimmel relies on his intelligence and his Deathgrippers whom he treats like personal lap dogs and drugged them into obedience with their own venom.
The way things play out over this story, it almost feels like fate is being ironic. A little Grimmel was confronted with the choice of either slaying a dragon or letting it live, to which he took the violent route. This very decision also lead Grimmel to hunt down every single other night fury, all up until another young boy was confronted by another dragon, as well as the same choice as Grimmel all those years ago. By listening to his heart and reviving Toothless, however, Hiccup also just so happened to have saved the very last night fury of it's race, becoming the progenator of the remaining dragons in a way!
Love this series! Did anyone notice the sea dragon in the hidden world? The one with the broken tusk from the 2nd movie. I thought that was a cool addition.
The parallel from the first movie when toothless lets him touch him, to this one where it's reversed.... this is storytelling . Like I cannot express enough how well done these movies were.
This is an awesome trilogy. Something the world has lost with this new generation of film companies. Too bad. But we will always have these beautiful movies to watch whenever we want.
I'm a simple man. If I see Ari and Denise post a new video, I'm gonna watch it. That's just how it goes. Love how you guys break down the cinematography in each film you watch.
This trilogy is so beautiful, it's really about how hard growing up is so hard sometimes and you need people and in this case dragons, to pull you out of your shell a bit and that's what makes this story so beautifull, in my opinion, i loved your guys reaction on this movie and the whole trilogy in general. If i can give a suggestion on a show you guys maybe could watch, it's the Rings Of Power, there a lot of different openions on this series, but i think it's beautiful and i think you guys would like it.
That's what is known as a perfect ending ❤ Specially for those like me who watched since we were kids ,from the first movie to the series and the final movie . Really emotional when i watched in theatre.
I think that you should also react to the ‘Homecoming’ short. This is the most appropriate and amazing way for the Trilogy end. Would you be willing to give it a shot?
I LOOOOVE THESE MOVIES!! This trilogy is my absolute favourite!! The ending gets me every time! 😭😭😭 One thing I find interesting about this last movie is the fact that Grimmel is technically considered the "evil version" of Hiccup! He is serving as an example of what Hiccup would have become if he had killed Toothless the first time they met, and how he would have desired to kill all dragons rather than save them!
I like the symbolism of Hiccup "taking off his leg/losing his leg" again. He is letting Toothless go, since that is the foot that used to control Toothless tail wing
This is my favorite of the three movies. So ya, Toothless in a night fury and she is a light fury, they are different species, I assume, because the first time you see Toothless in the hidden world you can spot three other light furys while Toothless is the last night fury and their three babies are hybrids.
I saw the first movie in theaters and took my family to see it. They were like what are you taking us to see? After the movie: that was one of the best movies I have ever seen. It is still one of my favorite trilogies of all time!
Randomly saying, I am not social and when I watch your videos feels like I am watching it with you, bec your both very inviting and just good energy keep it up yo
Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet or if you two noticed it but at 42:25 when Hiccup lifted his hand from Toothless' head it was a reverse version of what happened when they first bonded back in HTTYD 1 Cause back then it was kinda like their first hello to each other in their relationship while here It's their goodbye because as easily as they can still visit one another, they'd have to do it discreetly because like Hiccup mentioned, not everyone is ready for dragons as well as not all dragons are ready for humans like shown in the part where Hiccup and Astrid visited the hidden world and got attacked by that big dragon but Hiccup couldn't do his usual thing to make it relax and accept them.
I've been away for a few days and just watched this video. It is indeed a wonderful series, it wasn't dragged on more than it needed to be, and mostly, taught us that eventually, you have to let go and give your companion their freedom in order to keep them safe. Might I suggest Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, and Rise Of The Guardians? Not connected with each other but definitely wholesome.
22:35 now you know why the book calls the night fury “the unholy offspring of LIGHTNING and death itself” clearly someone saw a night fury do this at some point.
I watches the first how to train your toothless with my grandmother, she took me to see it in cinema 💙 loved seeing this media. I think you'd also enjoy the golden compass

Whoa,that’s impressive.😃
Damm dude,I respect the commitment, especially if you had to type all of this instead of coyppaste.
Fun and adorable fact! Toothless and the Light Fury's babies are called the Night Lights! 😂❤
Perfect end to a perfect trilogy! ❤❤
Such a perfect ending to a wonderful series. Too bad that they want to remake it in live action
This is definitely one of my favorites if not my favorite animated trilogy. I’m glad people still appreciate it just as much
Fun fact : baby night and light fury’s are called NIGHT LIGHTS RAAAA ITS SO CUTE
This movie had the perfect ending
I think this is my favorite of the bunch
It just hits right
the little ones are named Night Lights which is a perfect name for em if you ask me
In case you're curious about "he didn't like before" tail upgrade thing
Watch the christmas short movie of how to train your dragon
Where hiccup created the tail that he can use without the pilot
This one is my favorite of the trilogy! It has such a huge message for both Hiccup and Toothless and is so heartfelt and emotional. I can’t watch this movie without crying. I’m so glad yall loved this series!
So so true - the trilogy is so mature and heartfelt, and we are so enamored with this world! Thank you so so much for joining us on this journey! On to the next!
There is actually a short movie called Homecoming, it happens before Hiccop reunites with Toothless where we see more of Hiccop's kids and Toothless's babies
I really recommend Race to the Edge it happens between the first and the second movie, and we see a lot of the stuff Hiccop has in the second movie and of course, new dragons, even Dragons mentioned in the first movie in the book Hiccup was reading
I loved watching your journey on this trilogy. awesome.
Did I just cry AGAIN with this movie because of you reacting to it? Yes. Absolutly. I love this ffing heartbreak movie so much. And thank you guys for watching them and enjoy them.
The Light Fury didn't have an actual name, but the fans named her Luna.
I hope the live action can live up to people’s expectations! ❤️ It would be great to see what they can do 😃
@@OfficialMediaKnights Considering it's the same director, I feel like it'll be great
@@OfficialMediaKnightscan you please watch Dragons: Race to the Edge. It take place between 1 and 2. There is also Dragons: defenders of berk, which takes place between 1 and the race to the edge
This is the perfect conclusion to the franchise, we certainly don't need that cash grab remake in 2025!
I love the whole series of “How to train your dragon”, I also loved your reactions to watching it for the first time. I also want to recommend the movie “the guest” from 2014. It is truly underrated.
This was my childhood the whole entire how to train your dragon series
Did y'all noticed the two others light furies when toothless was on top with his light fury in the hidden world
As a visually impaired person, I thank you for letting me see those films a little better.
That's what is known as a perfect ending ❤
Specially for those like me who watched since we were kids ,from the first movie to the series and the final movie .
One thing I find interesting about this last movie is the fact that Grimmel is technically considered the "evil version" of Hiccup! He is serving as an example of what Hiccup would have become if he had killed Toothless the first time they met, and how he would have desired to kill all dragons rather than save them!
Thank u guys for taking the ride with all of us , some of us again lol , this is one of my favorite animated films series,
Easily the best Dreamworks trilogy.
I'm so glad you guys enjoyed these movies! This trilogy has been my whole childhood since I can remember and toothless was my very first tattoo :)
imagine growing up watching these movies (and the spinoff shows), and seeing this in theaters 😭
I like the symbolism of Hiccup "taking off his leg/losing his leg" again. He is letting Toothless go, since that is the foot that used to control Toothless tail wing
Can't believe Hidden World is literally 5 years old this year!
Love your reviews, guys.. always a joyful and emotional experience together with you .. much love from Czech Republic
This is the best animated trilogy made. So many adventures, smiles and emotions! 💖
Randomly saying, I am not social and when I watch your videos feels like I am watching it with you, bec your both very inviting and just good energy keep it up yo
Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet or if you two noticed it but at 42:25 when Hiccup lifted his hand from Toothless' head it was a reverse version of what happened when they first bonded back in HTTYD 1
Cause back then it was kinda like their first hello to each other in their relationship
while here It's their goodbye
because as easily as they can still visit one another, they'd have to do it discreetly because like Hiccup mentioned, not everyone is ready for dragons as well as not all dragons are ready for humans
like shown in the part where Hiccup and Astrid visited the hidden world and got attacked by that big dragon but Hiccup couldn't do his usual thing to make it relax and accept them.
So excited for this!! You gotta watch The Lego Movie next.
Omg I'm crying 😢 😂I love that you guys did this series 👏 I really love your reactions ❤️
And that's how house targerian begins lol
😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂
all of them are good im happy hiccup is getting a beard his dad genetics kicking in
I watches the first how to train your toothless with my grandmother, she took me to see it in cinema 💙 loved seeing this media. I think you'd also enjoy the golden compass
If you like beautiful visuals, interesting and complex characters, and a fantastic score; I think you'll LOVE Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke. Love your reactions, always!
the best trilogy!! every movie is amazing, and the parallels between them are crazy emotional... I love it so much❤
